No date when importing iMovie HD project into iMovie '08

When I import an iMovie HD project into iMovie '08, the dates for each clip disappear. It seems as though the date/time for the entire import is the date/time I captured the movie from my camera into iMovie '06, not the actual dates of when the videos were taken. Can anyone help? Thank you!

I to have this problem ... hope there is an easy fix!!! Or perhaps it is just an way to force us to jump right to iLife '09?

How do i import an iMovie 08 project into Imovie 11?

I don't still have iMovie 08, but this method works in iMovie 11.
Go to...Home, movies, iMovie projects, find the project you want and right click and click "show package contents".
That will show a movie file and some other files. Drag the file to the desktop and rename it .mp4.
then go to iMovie, import, navigate to the mp4 file on your desktop and it will let you import to the events section and then you can add it to your movie.
Takes a lot longer to describe than to do. The quality seems to be preserved though I don't know if titles etc get transferred over, kind of doubt it.

  • Error -2002 when importing quicktime movie clips into iMovie Project

When I import QuickTime movie clips into my project, the scroll bar fills about 1/3 of the way, and then I get this message:
Can't open file "DSCN0812.MOV"; skipping it and continuing. I CLICK "OK," and then this message appears:
    Error during import
The file could not be imported: (-2002)
This happens to every movie clip. Anyone have any idea what's happening here?
    Thanks!

I guess, you try to import 'moving images' from a still cam, right? these are in a codec (=mov is no format, just a container) , iM doesn't support. Use the free tool *Mpeg Streamclip* www.squared5.com to convert these files to 'dv stream' BEFORE importing to iMovie.

  • Importing unfinished iMovie 4 project into iMovie 9

I just purchased a 27" iMac quad core that came with iMovie 9. On my old Mac (iMovie 4) I had unfinished iMovie projects I was hoping to complete in the new version. But, when I attempt to import them, the projects are grayed out (not accessible). I've tried all three import options (movie, camera archive and iMovie HD Project), renaming the old projects to end with ".imovieproject" and tried importing projects saved in various locations. How can I import from 4 to 9? And, if I do, is there any way around the apparent loss of music, video effects, and transitions? I put a lot of work into those projects...in fact, I maxed out the iMovie 4's capabilities. I really don't want to start all over again. Help, please!

I would recommend finishing them in the old version.
Alternatively, if you can get a copy of iMovie 5 or iMovie 6, there is an upgrade path from iMovie 4.
You can import imovie 5 or 6 files into iMovie 09, but you will lose music, transition, and effects. You only keep the edits.

  • Importing iMovie HD projects into iMovie 11

Are projects made with iMovie HD compatible when imported into iMovie 11?
I have imported projects made with iMovie HD into the latest iMovie 11 and noticed soundtrack and transitions were missing. Is there anything I can do to import iMovie HD projects without missing anything (music, effects, etc) in iMovie 11? thanks

    Hi
iMovie 1 to HD6 - is one Application evolving
iMovie'08 to 11 - Is a wrongly named new Application.
That's why one can't migrate projects over with full compatibility - same as to FinalCut - will not work 100% either.
And If You aim to make a DVD as result - then stay in iM HD6 as this will give absolutly best quality when exported to iDVD.
iMovie'08 - 11 discard every second line resulting in 50% of the sharpness.
    Yours Bengt W

  • How to import imovie HD projects into imovie 10.0.3

    Hello
I still a serie of projects recorded in my computer with imovie HD.
I have now imovie 10.0.3 and OS 10.9.2 and I do not manage to convert these "old" files.
How can I do as Mavericks does not allow to run imovie HD.
    Thanks
    Marc

You can run iMovie HD 6  on mavericks, but not HD 5.
You can save the project as a Quicktime file (best quality) and import that into iMovie 10.

  • Can i turn off the Timecode, when importing a DV Tape into iMovie?

    Hi,
I have just cut a film on a Pc and exported in on a DV tape. When i tried to import this tape into imovie the film is cut into pieces again. I want to import the Movie in one piece and only add some gimmicks to it.
As i am new with I-movie, does anyone has an idea, how i can do this??
    Thanks

Open iTunes. Go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and change the setting "On CD Insert" in the drop down menu from Import Songs to Show Songs.

  • Keep transitions intact when importing mult. iPhoto images into iMovie HD?

Is it possible to import a completed iPhoto album show with hundreds of images with random transitions between each into iMovie while still keeping the random transitions between the iPhoto images intact?
If not, is there a way to select random transitions between the still images in iMovie once they get there rather than select and create each and every one of the transitions myself?
    Thanks!

Because iMovie and iPhoto serve different purposes, each has features not found in the other. There is no way in iMovie to automatically add random transitions to slideshows, for example, while iPhoto offers that feature. (In iMovie, the assumption is the user wants absolute control over such features, wants to control each frame of the slideshow.)
That doesn't prevent you from having your cake and eating it too, however. Remember, many of the iLife apps allow you move stuff around between them.
For example, you can create a slideshow containing random transitions in iPhoto, export it to a QuickTime movie, import that movie to iMovie, add titles and songs, add some video from a video camera, add a voiceover narration, add some Chapter Markers, add an iMovie theme to introduce each chapter, then send the iMovie project off to iDVD to burn a DVD that plays on a TV.
So, check out the File > Export command in iPhoto. Set the exported movie to 640x480. The command will export your iPhoto slideshow to an MPEG-4 type QuickTime movie. Create a new MPEG-4 type iMovie project and import that movie to it. (Use the disclosure arrow towards the bottom of the window where you name the new iMovie project to select the MPEG-4 project type.)

  • Will importing iMovie 08 project into iMovie HD 6 degrade quality?

    Hello,
Didn't find this in previous posts, so here goes...
I worked on a few projects in iMovie 08 before learning that iMovie HD 6 had better picture quality, features, etc for my needs.
I want to combine footage from iMovie 08 and iMovie HD 6 to send to iDVD to make 1 dvd movie.
Can iDVD handle footage from multiple projects in different iMovie versions, or do I need to have everything in one version of iMovie first? If I import the 08 clips into HD 6, will it degrade the picture further? I no longer have some of the miniDV tapes the footage was recorded on.
AND, if I do import 08 footage into HD 6, how do I do this to preserve the best quality I can?

    Thanks.
What is the best video compression type to use for this purpose? I have it set to MPEG-4 right now, with same frame rate as original. I don't know a lot about compression types, but would DV/DVCPRO-NTSC work or be any better?
What about audio settings? It is currently set to 16 bit, 48 KHz, Linear PCM... the audio wasn't great from the source (internal camera mic), but I'd like to preserve what is there!

  • Importing iMovie 06 projects into iMovie 09

I have a number of projects done with iMovie 06. How can I import them into iMovie 09?

    Use File/Import/iMovie 6 HD Project.
It will put raw footage in an event. It will put clips in the timeline into a Project. It will not import music, effects, titles, etc. I forget whether it will ignore transitions or just convert them to cross-dissolves.
    All this is in iMovie/Help

  • When importing a Quicktime file into iMovie the audio is inconsistently synchronised with the video. Any ideas?

I record using Quicktime and the built in webcam on my MacBook Pro. When importing the file to iMovie the audio is inconsistent in its syncronisation with the video. Any ideas?

This is probably caused by the internal webcam on Apple devices being optimized for FaceTime rather than for movie making. In FaceTime, the goal is to transmit the information using a little bandwidth as possible, so the video will be recorded at a variable frame rate. The frame rate will get low if you are still, and will speed up if there is a lot of motion.
To fix, I would suggest that you use a free app like MPEG Streamclip. Drag the clip into MPEG Streamclip and export it out at a constant framerate.
If it is an HD movie, I suggest exporting it from MPEG Streamclip using FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video compression. For sound, choose uncompressed 48khz. That should work, but I can't test it right now. If MPEG Streamclip does not work for you, let me know and I can recommend another free tool.

  • How do import an iDVD project into iMovie?

    Hello,
I want to make changes to a movie, but I can't find the movie. It's just me. I have the iDVD project, and I know I can "play a DVD into iMovie, but wouldn't it be better to get the .proj into the event?
    Thank you.

First, see if your MP4 file will play in QuickTime Player.
If it will, click Command-I in QuickTime Player to open the Inspector. Tell us the dimensions of the clip, and everything listed beside the word Format:

  • Importing iMovie 08 Project into iMovie 09

    Hello
My wifes macbook had a hard drive failure. I replaced the drive and decided to move to Snow Leopard and iLife 09. We had a backup of her old drive. My problem is that I can't seem to get an older imovie 08 project to show up in imovie 09. Is there something I am missing here. Please help

You need to put it in the Movies/iMovie Projects folder.
You also need your Event files in the Movies/iMovie Events folder.
Then restart iMovie. It should do the conversion to iMovie 09 automatically.

  • How to inport iMovie 11 projects into iMovie 09???

I really need to have this problem solved. PLEASE HELP!! How do I import projects from 11 into 09. I had many problems in 11 and hated it now I need to finish up my project the proper way. Thanks!

iMovies are not designed to be viewed in iPhoto. You should watch your movies from iTunes. You can SHARE/To iTunes and your movies will be in iTunes. From iTunes, you can watch them on your Mac, on your Apple TV, or you can sync to iPhone, iPad, iPod. You will also be able to access them through the Media Browser in Keynote, Pages, GarageBand, Logic, and iDVD.
The only movies that should be stored in iPhoto are short, unedited clips taken by a still camera. iMovie can edit them without taking them out of iPhoto.

I have iMovie 8.0.6 and an iPhone 4S.  I took hours of videos on vacation (Australia and New Zealand) and want to make a movie.  I've imported the first batch into iMovie and started the project.  I just realized that I shot both horizontally and vertically and when I preview (on full-screen) what I've combined, first it's wide-screen, then it's tall, narrow with wide black sides.
The film looks choppy, no flow, since it alternates horizontally and vertically.
I can import the vertical clips two ways:  "Full-Original Size", or "Large 960x540."  But the vertical clips have very short, fat people.
This didn't happen with my Flip HD; the movies are smooth and terrific.  My heart is breaking.....please, how can I make the videos match?

Yes, I'd like to use all the video I shot, put it together with music, titles, etc. and make it consistant.  when it goes from full screen to this vertical, narrow clip, it's very awkward.....and it's so narrow, it's hard to see what I'm looking at; my eyes don't make the adjustment quickly.
