No dhcp for airport with parallels

hi,
i have a macbook and installed parallels yesterday. since i rebooted the mac, my airport can not get an address from dhcp. it only has a self assigned ip address. when i first ran paralles i chose bridged network. but now it makes no difference which network option i choose in parallels. there is no ip from dhcp for airport anymore. the ethernet card still works fine. but i`m afraid that once i use it with parallels the same thing will happen to it. anyone got an idea what to do about that?
greetz,
mike

Hi, Mike / James Hetfield.
I don't mean to send you somewhere else, but this is a question you need to address with Parallels Support. I presume you've reviewed the Parallels User Guide concerning DHCP.
You might also want to search the AirPort & AirPort Express Discussions in case it has been addressed there, where AirPort-related questions are answered.
Good luck!

  • Windows XP or Vista for use with Parallels on MacBook 2.16 GHz?

As described in my earlier post, I'm currently switching from my G4 PowerBook to a new MacBook 13" 2.16 GHz.
I'll have to use Windows parallel to OS X (plan to do that with Parallels Desktop) and would like to know what you recommend:
    Windows XP or Windows Vista?
Vista should be better in security issues, however it should also consume much more ressources and thus run slower ... is that right?
    What's your experience?
    Martin
MacBook 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB HD (white)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi Martin,
personally I favour XP over Vista (at least for now and the near future), because as you mentioned Vista a much more hungrier than XP and also because there are still a lot of applications which do not work correctly or at all in Vista.

  • How to Format Toshiba Hard-Drive for Mac with Parallels?

    Hello,
I recently bought a Toshiba Hard-Drive with the following features:
    500GB
It is a Canivo Basics 3.0
It is USB 3.0 and 2.0 portable hard drive
It has already been formatted NTFS for Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8
The box says that it can be reformatted for Mac
I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display that I bought this year in late March/early April.
It runs OS X Mavericks, and Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac.
I would like to reformat it so that I can use it on my laptop both with Windows and Mac OS at the same time. I do not wish to use a partition as I want to access the hard drive through Mac and Windows at the same time on my laptop and I also want to be able to access the Mac things on a Windows computer and vice versa.
I have never formatted a hard drive before, and I would like to use a completely safe software, or no software at all, if it is possible.
I am sorry but I don't have a very high knowledge of this.
    Thanks,
    Sandy-Wood

It would be easier, using Parallels, just to format the drive for "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". You can see it both in the Windows/Parallels and the Mac side. Leaving it formatted as NTFS is not going to allow you to access (write to) the drive unless you use third-party software. Formatting it for Mac lets you use it, as I said, on both the Parallels VM and the Mac side.
If you were using Boot Camp, I would advise leaving it formatted as NTFS and purchasing NTFS for Mac to access the drive on both OS's. You can mitigate that by formatting the drive for Mac:
    Good luck,

  • Configure DHCP for Airport Extreme to see PPoE on a Nyxel DSL Modem?

I would like to configure DHCP server for an Airport Extreme to see PPoE on a Nyxel DSL Modem?

Please perform factory default reset on the AEBS as follows:
Pull the power plug from the back of the AEBS
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you plug the power back in to the AEBS
Release the reset button and allow 25-30 seconds for the AEBS to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Connect an Ethernet cable from the Zyxel modem/router to the WAN port (circle icon) on the AEBS
Connect another spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <=> ports on the AEBS
Open AirPort Utility, select the AEBS, and click Continue to follow the guided setup as follows:
Page 1 - Assign a device name and device password for the AEBS
Page 2- Select "Create a wireless network"
Page 3- Assign a name for the wireless network and a password for the wireless
Page 4 - Select Bridge Mode if not already selected
Page 5 - Setting should be Configure iPv4 Using DHCP. Not other info is needed
Page 6 - Summary of settings and click Update
    Close AirPort Utility
Test out the wireless by disconnecting the spare Ethernet cable and then clicking the AirPort icon at the top of your Macs screen to Turn AirPort On.
Then click Join Other Network and Show Networks to locate your wireless network and log on using the wireless password
You should be good to go

  • Using Airport with Parallels

    Hey there,
Can't find this topic anywhere but if you know the answer can you post it or direct me to the appropriate link as I'm desperate as its work related!!!! All I want to do is use parallels with airport, I can get it to work via the ethernet cable at work but not when I get home on the wireless.... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
    Thanks in advance guys.

Hello Biglama. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It does work okay with VMWare and Windows XP, so I know it's functional.
Ok, you do know that there are two major differences here? Both the virtualization software and the hosted OS are completely different so that what may work under one combination is no real guarantee that it will work under another.
Did you have an opportunity to verify that other printers, connected to the AirPort, work in this VM, only that this particular plotter doesn't? Also, did you have a chance to post this issue on the Parallels support forum? Finally, if you still have VMware available, can you still access this plotter running a Windows 7 VM?

  • Simple setup for Airport with PC

    Hello,
I've had an airport extreme base station up and running for a while now. I tried to add a PC laptop and the laptop will not connect. When I enter the information it needs, it finds my network (it even goes as far as knowing the name of my network) but gets stuck on "aquiring signal" and never really gets to the point of having me enter my password. It seems like this should be a simple fix, but I can't find any information on it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,
    -Jeff

Here are some better directions. First of all, Windows needs to be handling the connection. Check task bar at bottom right of screen. The monitor icon with the radio waves out by the side should be the one that is trying to connect. If the radio wave icon that looks like an upside down pyramid is the one that is active, it means intel is managing the connection and you'll need to switch it off. Unfortunately, I can not recall procedure for that but i think it involves config.sys. There is probably wireless connection info at Windows site.
But, if Windows is the connector.
    Go to control panel.
    Click network connections.
    right click wireless network connections
    click properties
    uncheck AEGIS
    uncheck WLAN
    everything else should remain checked.
    OK
    reboot
    hopefully you'll be fixed

  • How do I install WIndows 7 from a download for use with Parallels?

I had installed Parallels and Windows 7 to my Macbook when I first purchased it.  Had some issues and uninstalled both.  Now I'm trying to reinstall and I can seem to get Windows installed.  HELP!

Haven't used Parallels, but have VMWare and VirtualBox on the Mac and must be similar. First off, by "download", it must be in an .iso format file, that represents the contents of a physical disk.
After creating the new virtual machine, configuring all the settings as needed for Win7, go to the virtual CD/DVD drive configuration. There should be means for attaching the .iso file to the device: Fusion calls it "Use disk image" and presents a drop down menu for selecting the .iso file. Then confirm that the startup order and/or startup device prioritizes the CD/DVD device. Once that is done, just go ahead and start the virtual machine up and it will boot from the .iso image. You can then use the standard Windows installer to set up your new Win7 instance.

  • Is password security necessary for AirPort with Mac local address mode set?

    Hi,
I use the Mac local access mode on my airport network and provide all Mac address that are allowed on my network. Since I specifically specify what computers are allowed on my network, why would I need to use some security protocol like WPA? Is there a risk of Mac address hijacking?
    Thanks.

Hello ScootInSD. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Since I specifically specify what computers are allowed on my network, why would I need to use some security protocol like WPA? Is there a risk of Mac address hijacking?
Yes, MAC addresses can easily be "sniffed" and spoofed so using MAC address filtering will only thwart the most casual of network hijackers. Currently only the use of wireless encryption, either WPA or WPA2 with the stronger CCMP/AES cryptographic encryption with a strong non-dictionary password can really provide security.

  • I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • Cannot obtain DHCP IP address via ethernet for Airport Express running 7.6.4

Printer connected to LAN port on Airport Express running 7.6.4 cannot get IP address via DHCP.  Airport Express is connected to an existing Wi-Fi network.  Downgrading firmware version to 7.6.3 or lower resolves the issue.  100% reproducible.  Tried this with 2 Airport Express devices and both had the same issue. Printer is a Star Micronics TSP 100 (point of sale receipt printer). This printer is used by almost all iPad based POS systems.  It is affecting business operations.

Well I solved my own problem and it was working fine for months until Yosemite came along....
To tether my iPhone USB connection to an Airport Express Base Station (AEBS)- i did the following
    1. Connect iPhone and turn on Personal Hotspot using USB
    2. Going to System Preferences on the Mac click on Network
    3. Set up the Ethernet setting with a static IP - (manual)
    Configure IPv4 Manually -
    IP Address: 192.168.2.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
    Router: 192.168.2.1
Next step is to configure the AEBS
    Start from fresh -
    Create a New Network
    Internet Settings set to :
    Connect Using: Static
    IPv4 Address: 192.168.2.3
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router Address: 192.168.2.1
    DNS Servers: 192.168.2.1
Then under the Network tab the router mode is set to DHCP and NAT
It worked beautifully until recently , after the upgrade to Yosemite it was working for about 1 month and then as of yesterday it stopped working.
I am not a networking guru and I am open to suggestions on a better setup. Has anyone got this setup working too?

  • After downloading firmware for airport utility, airport express base station no longer registers with airport utility on my Mac. Now the base station is blinking amber with no info of what is causing all this to happen. Any suggestions?

After downloading firmware for airport utility last night, airport express base station was deleted from airport utility and only Time Capsule remains. When I plug in the base station, an amber light blinks without being able to verify the cause. Any suggestions to remedy this problem?

There are only a couple of things you can do to resuscitate a nonresponsive Express:
    "Hard reset":
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil until you see the status light (LED) start to flash amber rapidly, which should occur after about five seconds.
    If that does not work,
    "Factory defaults reset":
    Unplug the Express from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the Express back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
    Release the button.
In either case you will have to reconfigure the Express as a new device. A moment or two after it has been reset, the LED should be blinking slowly. It must then appear in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
Earlier versions of OS X will report it as "Apple Network nnnnnn".
In either case, select it, and then launch AirPort Utility.
If it does no appear in your Wi-Fi menu after it has been reset using one of the two techniques above, it is defective. Other than attempting another reset, there is nothing you can do.

  • I have an imac bought late 2013, can i use it as a display for the new mac pro? I also want to use windows 8 on it, would this work with parallels or bootcamp?

I have an imac bought late 2013, can i use it as a display for the new mac pro? I also want to use windows 8 on it, would this work with parallels or bootcamp?

Yes, it supports target display mode. Windows can be run with either Parallels or Boot Camp.

  • Can AirPort express be used for AirPlay with my home stereo, and to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via ethernet, simultaneously?

I am considering buying an airport but I am not sure if it will work how I would like it to.  I need it for two things.  The first would be to use for AirPlay with my home stereo.  The second would be to use as a way to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via the ethernet port.  I would like to do these things simultaneously, rather than constantly changing the configuration and being limited to a single function each time I do so.
    Thanks!

The 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, it would join an existing wireless network and its Ethernet port would be enabled for a wired client, like your Xbox 360. This configuration would also support AirPlay simultaneously.

  • Pointers for optimizing system performance (run time) while running DP process chain with parallel processing

    Hi Experts,
    We are running APO DP process chain with parallel processing in our company, we are experiencing some issues regarding run time of process chain, need your help on below points;
    - What are the ways we can optimize process chain run time.
    - Special points we need to take care of in case of parallel processing profiles used in process chain.
    - Any specific sequence to be followed for different processes in process chain - if there is some best practice followed.
    - Any notes suggesting ways to improve system performance for APO version 7 with different enhancement packs 1 and 2.
Any help will be really appreciated.
    Regards

    HI Neelesh,
There are many ways to optimize performance of the process chains (background jobs) in APO system.
Firstly I would recommend you to identify the pain areas (steps) which are completing with more runtimes. Then each one of the step has got different approaches to decrease the runtime.
Like you may end up with steps like infopackage executions, DTPs, DP mass processing jobs etc which might be running with more runtimes. So now target each one of them differently and find out the ways to optimize. At the same time the approach you follow should be technically possible with basis perspective (system load and utilization) as well.
And coming to parallel processing, you can use parallel processing for different for different jobs. You can further r explore on the same using parallel processing. Like loading an infocube, mass processing, infopackage execution, DTP, TSCOPY etc.
Check the below link for more info
Performance problems in DP mass processing
Let me know if you require further info.

  • Vritualization with Parallels for MacIntel

    Hi,
I came across of review of the Virtualizaiton Solution for intel macs and wanted to give it a go.
    http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop
I was wondering if someone knows how secure it will be to running WindowsXP on it in regards to worms and viruses?
    Thanks.

That is correct but your question did not state that you were concerned about the OS X portion but asked if you would have the same issues with viruses and such. On the Windows partition you will, on the OS X partition you would only have the same issues you have now. If you sent an infected virus for instance with your windows based email application and received it on your OS X partition with its email application then it would not run since OSA X could not do anything with it. However, you could pass that virus on via email just as you can now.
The easiest way to think of this is to think of two totally separate systems and treat each as such. Any windows problem that you can experience now, you could have on the windows partition. It won't affect the OS X partition though.
If you have an OS X issue, then it won't affect the windows partition.
