NO dml Master / detail form/report

If I wanted to create a form or report that would only display one master record and its children records on one page. What would be the best way to do this?
The page would not support dml. Only display the data in a master/detail fashion. I tried creating a form thru the wizard but I dont need dml.
I tried creating a report but all the data is horizental and would prefer more of a form type of layout.
A simple illustration follows below. Above the line is the data from the master table. Below the line are the childern.

  • Search on Master Detail form/report

    Hi,
I noticed that when I created a new application in Apex 4.01 basing the intial page on a Master Detail form/report, I was able to add a search item to the initial page. When I go to add another page with a different Master detail form/report, I did not have any option for adding a search item to the report page. Seems like an oversight?
I would appreciate any hints as to how to add same search item to my 2nd Master/Detail form/report.
    Thanks,

  • Limit on number of columns details of a master detail form/report

    Hi,
I understand that there is a limit to the number of columns you can have in a master detail form/report. I am on Apex 4.01 and have a detail section that shows 24 months at a time as columns with integer hours assigned each month. My master detail was working fine with as many as 24 months/columns in this detail section, but I tried to re-use months by 'recycling' months, clearing them out of values and adding the months to the end of each row but now I am getting errors even though I had more columns showing before my 'recycliing' of the columns. The error is:
"ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small "
What I don't understand is -- why am I getting this error now when I actually had more columns in the detail section months ago, and all I am doing is 'recycling' prior columns back into the detail report, not actually adding columns.
Thanks for any insights anyone can give.
    Pat

DBA tells me that we are at 9.0.2.2.14, (higher version than the one you suggested) but I still get the same error.

    Dhanush,
This is an optimistic locking checksum error. It's trying to tell you that it can't save because someone/thing has updated the data already and it doesn't want to overwrite it. Is that always occurring?

I have Line Detail where there are ITEMS such as SL NO: ,ITEM_ID , UOM ( Unit of measuremnt ) etc
Now here is where I need help .
Using POP UP LOV i have managed to fetch in LOV for the item "ITEM_ID",--- i can select an item name using the pop up LOV ,

  • Master Detail Form with Report - Referring a column in another table

I have master detail form with a report option. The master table has a column that also references a look up table.
When the report is displayed the lookup column id is displayed. Rather I want to get the look-up value from a lookup table
    and display in the report.
When I see the report region Query definition , it just has the columns to add/remove only from the master table.
Could you pls help me with this regard.
    Eg :
    Dept Table
    dept_id
    dept_name
    location_id
    Employee Table
    employee_id
    employee_name
    dept_id
    location
    location_id_id
    location_name
Master is Dept, Detail is dept and lookup table is location.

Simply add the lookup table to the FROM clause and join its PK with the FK in the master table in your query. That's basic SQL, and you definitely must get a good grasp of SQL to do more than very basic work in APEX.
For a good example, please see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10513_01/doc/appdev.310/e10498/build_app.htm#BCEBJJGB

  • Is this a bug? master rowid value lost when saving on a master/detail form

master/detail forms seem to lose the rowid after saving, if the unique identifier is set to ROWID
    to reproduce the problem:
    1) create a master detail form on DEPT/EMP
-- choose 'Managed by Database (ROWID)' on the 'Define Primary Key' page.
-- do not include master row navigation (but i don't think this matters)
-- choose 'Edit detail as tabular form on same page' on the 'Choose Layout' page
    -- include the master report
    2) on the master/detail page, change the conditional branch that returns to the master report page
-- the normal condition for this branch is request in SAVE,DELETE,CREATE
-- change it to request in DELETE,CREATE
    3) run the form and save a change
-- saves fine, session shows the ROWID value is still set
    4) save a second change
-- change does not save, form reverts to Create mode
this problem does not occur when using the primary key columns instead of rowid
see http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=60813:7 for the ROWID version
see http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=60813:11 for the PK column version

    Hi Saverio,
Bug *13563808* has been logged to track the reported issue, and a fix will be made available in a future release. Just to clarify, this issue is only arising when the APEX-generated Master-Detail is modified post-generation, so for users who have not modified their Master-Details using ROWID to manage their DML processes, they should not experience this issue.
In relation to my workaround, my suggestion works in my test environment, which I verified before posting the initial suggestion. Please note that the 'Reset Page' process is, by default, conditional on the "Delete" button being pressed. If you have made further modifications to your Master-Detail page, then this might explain why you're seeing different behaviour to me. You might using the "Debug" option on the Developer Toolbar useful. Viewing the debug information should help you to decipher what's going on/wrong on your page. If you still can't resolve the issue, then the safest option might be to revert the page back to it's original state, meaning the user navigates back to the Report page upon submitting changes to the Master-Detail Form page.

  • Master detail form initial insert issue on details sub-region

    Hello,
I created a master detail form with report which should do insertion on master and detail region/subregion.
On insert mode I enter with data master and detail block, when I press "Create" button, insertion happens only on master block (order table) not and on detail block (order_item table).
On EDIT mode it does insertions/updates on master and detail block without problems.

Something like this should do the work:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER order_item_table_tr
       BEFORE INSERT
       ON order_item_table
       FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
       IF :NEW.order_id IS NULL
       THEN
          :NEW.order_id := v ('P1_ORDER_ID');
       END IF;
    END order_item_table_tr;
/Make sure the Automatic Row Processing (DML) of the order table returns key into item > Return Key Into Item > P1_ORDER_ID (or however the primary key of the order table is named)

  • Master Detail Form - unable to add detail row

    Dear,
I have a test application that runs for years on apex.oracle.com.
Since 3rd of june 2010 I am unable to add rows on a detail form.
    Any ideas?
    Help is welcome!
    Kind regards
    Lorenz

    4.0 Conversion Issue
Lorenz stated I can create the orderheader, but unable to create orderlines.Simply nothing happens, when I click the add row button.>
I share the same issue as Lorenz, on a Master/Detail form, I am able to create my Master row and but nothing happens when attempting to create detail rows. I was able to switch my application to theme 13 (Traditional Blue) from 2 (Blue and Tan) and was then able to create and add details rows.
My dilemma. When switching to theme 13 and others, none appear to support Two Level Tabs in the same manner as Theme 2. Essentially the applications look and feel is not going to go over well with my user base of 3+ years.
Is there another standard theme that will support Two Level Tabs like Theme 2 and allow the addition of detail rows on a Master/Detail form?
Is this a reported 4.0 conversion issue?

  • Download link in master detail form

I am trying to store a PDF file in the DB and then allow users to click on a link to download it. However, I can't get this to work properly. The report region definition does not allow me to alter the source. What I did was create a master detail form and report. Then, I changed the format mask of the field that will be the PDF download link to BLOB and I got this error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error To fix this I need to alter the source code and add the following dbms_lob.getlength("BLOB_CONTENT") as "BLOB_CONTENT". How can I do this if the report region definition is not allowing me to edit it? Is there any other way to do this?

  • Master detail form ... EXTREMELY URGENT

    gurus,
    here is my situation -
    i have 2 tables ...
    master ---> base_rate_type
    detail ---> base_rates
the detail table has base rates for the base rate type in master. the detail can have multiple records but, only one active base rate.
when the form is run, the user needs to see only the active base rate and on a click of a button the user needs to see the history of all the base rates (all inactive ones and one active).
this is what i'm doing --
    1. created a view (base_rates_v) of all the active base rates from the detail table.
    2. created a master detail form -
    master ---> base_rate_type
    detail ---> base_rate_v
the form shows only active records.
    3. created a custom button in the detail. the custom button displays all the records from base_rates table for that master.
    4. HERE IS THE PROBLEM -
user can enter future base rates (active in future), but the user cannot enter another base rate which would be active rightaway, which means there will be only one base rate ACTIVE at any point of time.
how would i validate the new base rate against the current ACTIVE BASE RATE ... ?
i think i could do it in INSTEAD-OF TRIGGER but, then how would i convey the error message back to the user as a ALERT .... ?
is it possible to alert the user from PL/SQL section of the Portal button ... ?
    any ideas anyone ...
    thanx a lot ...
    null

    dmitry,
here is what i'm looking for -
a base rate type can have multiple base rates, each having a start date and a stop date. at any point of time only one of them would be active.
    for example -
Base rate type --> Type A
Base Rate Start Date Stop Date
    7.5 10-jan-2001 10-feb-2001
    7 11-feb-2001 10-mar-2001
    8 11-mar-2001 9-jun-2001
    7 10-jun-2001 10-jul-2001
    5 10-oct-2001 10-nov-2001
so in above case the second last one is active.
the requirement is when i run the form it should show only active and future base rates. the last one in the above example is future base rate.
so, i created a view on detail table that shows only active and future base rates. and then a master detail form (the view being the detail). i also created a custom button in the detail section, that would open a report and show all the base rates for a particular base rate type ('A' in above case).
the VALIDATION that is required in the form is as follows -
    the form displays following -
Base rate type --> Type A
Base Rate Start Date Stop Date
    7 10-jun-2001 10-jul-2001
    5 10-oct-2001 10-nov-2001
if the user enters a new base rate as foll -
Base Rate Start Date Stop Date
    8 15-jun-2001 15-jul-2001
then the new base rate overlaps with the existing active base rate. if it so happens i need to ALERT the user that a active base rate already exists for that period.
    how would i achieve this ... ?
it does not matter if i validate it using JS or pl/sql.
i was thinking JS would be difficult to use considering, the validation needs to go and check the existing base rates in the table.
    any ideas ...?
    thanx a lot ...

  • Master Detail Form Question

I would like to create a master detail form that is essentially 2 tabular report regions. Is this possible?
Basically I would like to have region A that shows all of the relevant information for higher level items (there are multiple of these higher level items). I would then like to have region B which would show me all of the lower level details for the higher level item that was selected in region A. Is there a way to read the row that you are on in region A and only show those related items in region B?
    Thank you!
    Amber

Are you asking to create two tabular reports on one page (Reports that are editable), or do you just want two reports on one page (non editable) where you select a row in the first and the second displays the detail records of the selected row in the first, highlighting the the selected row in the first report?
If you want the two editable reports, then the answer is no, you can only have one tabular form on a page.
If you only want two reports, or perhaps the top report as a non editable report and the second as an editable report, then it is possible to do this.

  • Master/Detail form with modal edit

I have a master/detail form that I generated using the wizard that I want to change to have a modal Edit button; i.e. the behavior I want is that the form view is initially read-only and you then have to click an Edit button to make the form editable.
I figured out how to do this for the master row by making the edit button redirect back to the same page with the request set to 'EDIT' and then making all the page items read-only with a condition REQUEST <> 'EDIT'.
I cannot find a good way to do this for the detail rows, which are actually a report with editable columns. The problem is that the 'Tabular Form Element' section of the 'Column Attributes' page does not have a read-only condition.
The only work around I can come up with so far is to have a second read-only report region with the same SQL query and then display either the editable or non-editable report region conditionally depending on whether the request is EDIT. But this obviously not ideal (having same SQL in two places, etc.).
If anyone can think of a better way to do this, I'd be grateful.
HTML DB Team: Can you log the addition of a read-only condition attribute on editable report columns as an enhancement request?

Simply add the lookup table to the FROM clause and join its PK with the FK in the master table in your query. That's basic SQL, and you definitely must get a good grasp of SQL to do more than very basic work in APEX.
