No entry sign on reinstalled Address Book
I have reinstalled address book (after deleting it for reasons I can't recall). It has contacts in it and opens up fine but a) there is a "no entry" sign when I open Applications as a stack and) b it doesn't sync with my iPhone 4, though everything else does sync, and the "sync contacts" box is checked in iTunes sync info tab.
Are these issues related? Can anyone help me with either/both?
Thank you!
Thanks. The plot thickens in that sync has now happened sucessfully and all my contacts from the Mac are on the iphone and viceversa (tho in two diffrent groups on the phone). So that's ok now - just have to de-dupe.
The story doesn't seem that strange to me having lived it...for the last 5 years I've had email contacts on entourage, addreses on a big fat Word document that I used for mail merge, and phone numbers on my old Nokia. I kind of half-heartdely started using Mac Address Book, but never worked out how to get it to talk to the other lists so it was wasn't very useful. Getting the phone was the nudge to bring all these things together. Which at last I kind of have.
The "no entry" sign is still there after the reinstall which I did using advice from this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/19535.html but it doesn't seem to be affecting things at all. Maybe a complete reinstall is the way forward.
Thanks for all your help!

Make sure you have your files backed up to a external drive before doing anything.
You need the OS X disk that matches your OS version 10.6.
Stick the OS X installer disk into the Mac and reboot holding c, simply reinstall OS X (includes bundled programs)
Your files and third party programs should be untouched (but that's why you made a backup on a external drive)
Reboot and use Software Update to get you on 10.6.8 -
I posted this before - no help or replies.
After OS X 10.4.8 and latest security update address book application disapeared. With spotlight I found my address book data. But can't reinstall the application. Address book icon appears under OS 9. applications but wouldn't load. All trials to custom install address book are failing.
Any hints or help appreciated.
Thanks.
G4 Powerbook 17' Mac OS X (10.4.8) 1,5 GHz; 2 GB RAMApplications don’t just disappear by themselves or as a result of installing a software update. If Address Book is no longer in /Applications/, it has to be because someone removed it from there.
Moreover, if it’s is somewhere else, it has to be because someone moved it there. If you have Address Book in the OS9 Applications folder and it doesn’t work, you should probably get rid of that altogether.
Anyway, you may reinstall Address Book as described in the second part of the following article:
Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4
Note that Address Book may appear grayed out in the installer, but will be checked if you check Applications there, and will be installed if Address Book has been removed from the /Applications/ folder.
If the version of the system software on your install disks is earlier than what you’re using now (and only in that case), then you must also reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, to bring Address Book back in sync with the rest of the system:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for PPC
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for Intel
You may also want to read the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
Troubleshooting installation and software updates
Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed. -
How do I reinstall Address Book and iCal in Lion?
Title says it all. I deleted iCal and Address Book long ago with AppZapper. Now that I have an iPhone, I actually have need of those apps. Problem is, I have Lion, and thus do not have an install disk. How would I go about reinstalling those apps in Lion?
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
How do I reinstall Address Book
I want to reinstall the Address Book app. I am having major problems with it. Went through all discussions and could not find solutions.
Address Book is empty.
I cannot import any archived file.
I cannot connect to iCloud. It won't add the account
I cannot create a new entry. File > New card does nothing
Here is what I tried :
Reboot
Check and repair permissions
Reinstalled Lion
No change.
But when I start whith another account, it works...
I do not see any other solution than reinstalling. But is it possible? How do I do it?Here it is. What appears in Console when I open Address Book. And I try to add a new entry. And I try to add an account. I did not delete anything. I Hope it is not too long...

Need to reset/reinstall address book (Contacts)
The first thing I did was made a backup copy of the address book to look at the format. I could not read it with a text editor
I importing a cvs file that contain over one hundred email addresses, but I didn't notice that the email address was not selected for import. I imported the entire file.
Rather than selecting one at time, I selected all of the entries in the address book and deleted them. I was successful all of my errors went away. I reloaded the database from the backup copy of the address book. I have tried muliple times, with and without a reboot.
The entries appear for a moment and then disappear every time.
Questions
How can I recover from this error?
Is there some file that needs to be delete?
If so where is the file located?
Is it a cloud problem?
Thank you!I had to change my user name from Ebht to MrEbht. I tried you advise and it still empties out the address book. I can still manual add account, but what fun is that. I have over a hundred address to enter. I really would love to know how the software, remembers what I have deleted. Is there a way to reinstall just that program and erase it's memory?

why after upgrading to lion and iOS5 does my address book and calendar have triple and quadruple entries for the same event?
Probably because of iCloud since I assume you started it up on both Macbook and a mobile device.

How can i reinstall address book
Does anyone know how to reinstall the address book in Lion?
Most tutorials I've seen assume that you have an installation disk, which Lion obviously doesn't have.
I keep getting the message that I cannot delete or change the Address Book as it is an essential app. It seems to be corrupted and I cannot open it at all.No - that didn't work. I have the error message in case that helps:

How to reinstall Address Book in Lion?
When I try to open Address Book all I get is the multi-colored pinwheel icon spinning around and around. I have to force quit the app. I have removed the icon from the dock and then re-added it, that didn't work. Then I went into the Application Support / Address Book folder and removed the two files in there, but that didn't work even though the Address Book recreated them. Is the next step to reinstall? If so, how do I do that considering that Lion did not come on a DVD?
Thanks!polishedstaple wrote:

Try deleting the files/folders:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/
Is the next step to reinstall? If so, how do I do that considering that Lion did not come on a DVD?

Need to reset/reinstall address book
I installed a trial version of AddressX and ran it once. Yikes. Now my address book hangs whenever I start it. I have to force quit every time. I need to clear it out or reinstall it. Does anyone know how? Thanks!
Hello and welcome to the Discussions.
Let's do a test of the AB application by creating a New User Account on your Mac, and as that New User attempt to launch the Address Book application. This will tell us if there is a problem with the application. See:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh168.html
If it works as that New User, then we can purge some preference files without doing anything to the application.
Also, use Disk Utility from the Applications/Utilities to Verify the hard drive -- this is different from Verify or Repair Permissions.

How to keep a new Address Book entry separate from current Address Book
I am developing a list of 500 emails that I will use for a group email. I want to avoid adding them to my current address book entries and make a totally separate file that I can access when I want to send to this group only.
Is there a way to do this? Thanks.Address Book only supports one list of contacts, not multiple address books. However, you can create the list as a Group within Address Book. If you don't want to keep that group around all the time, you can export the whole group as a vCard (File menu > Export Group vCard), delete the group from your list, and when you want to send mail to the group, just drag-and-drop the vCard to the Bcc: field of a new mail message (or the To: field, but the Bcc: field is the proper one to use, so the recipients of the group email can't see the email addresses of the other recipients).
To access the Bcc: field, click the to the left of Subject.
Hope this helps... -
How do I reinstall Address Book for Leopard
I just bought a new iMac with 10.5. Thought I would be smart and insert the Address Book from a backup on my previous Mac. It replaced the 10.5 Address Book with my backup copy (like I wanted). However, I now get a message that tells me that version of Address Book doesn't work with 10.5. Now, I have no Address Book.
Anyone know how I can download or otherwise get the Address Book that comes with 10.5 on my computer?Use Pacifist to extract the Address Book application from the iMac's original disks, and then copy over the Address Book database from the Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ of your home folder on the backup.

Reinstall Address Book in 10.6.8
How do I restore/replace my Address Book application?
Currently it keeps crashing with the following error:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x00007fff5f3ffd00
The data is still on disk; it can be accessed by other (non-Apple) programs, although
every Apple program (Mail, etc) also crashes as soon as it touches Address Book (same
error msg).
I also have a Time Machine backup, but can't find anyway to restore it without getting
the application up and running.
All suggestions welcome. You could try downloading and applying the combo update for your OS. Takes a bit of time but it does tend to straighten up the glitches. Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1

I feel like such a dope. When moving my backed up files over to my new MacBook, I accidentally moved my old PowerPc version of Address Book into the Applications folder. I can't access Address Book now; it simply won't open. When I try to open it, it says that "this version is not compatible with this version of OSX" (I'm running 10.5.5). OK, no big deal, right? Just pop in the Install Disk and find it in the Optional items list. Only problem is, I can't click on anything in the list of applications on the DVD, so there's no way for me to get the correct version of Address Book. Any suggestions for this dope?
That's actually what I've been trying to do! As the article explain:
+Just launch the installer and click the Continue buttons until you reach the Custom Install screen. Click the triangle next to Applications, tick the box next to iCal, and click the Install button to install iCal. With both the Tiger and Leopard Installer discs the Applications area of the Custom Install screen includes options for installing Address Book, iCal, iChat, iTunes, Mail, Oxford Dictionaries, Safari, and X11.+
Only problem is, I can't "tick the box" next to Address Book--I can't even tick the box next to Application! Any idea why and what I should do? Is Pacifist my only answer?

BC4J: embedding Special SQL in View Objects
