No indication that a Radio Button reference control is Strict. Intentional or bug?

On the front panel control for a Reference of a Radio Button, when you Include Data Type, there's no indication (red asterisk).
edit: no wait, there is, but it's hidden by the graphic on the reference. You can barely see some red. Bug.
'nother edit: same for clusters, maybe more. We need to be able to see that red asterisk more clearly.
Richard

I would definitely call it a bug, fortunately, it is cosmetic and does not really break anything.
The bug is present on all references that have that option (waveform, cluster, radiobutton, numerics, etc.) Even on numerics, it is still slighly covered by the graphics (second from left).
That star needs to be in the top center, similar to the graphics to distiguish strictly typed static VI references on the diagram (right).

• One pair of radio buttons to control multiple text objects - Designer 8.0

Greetings - a big thank you in advance for any assistance. I have often found answers to my problems on this forum, but have been unable to find an answer to the following.
The short of it - is it possible to make a pair of radio buttons control the visibility of multiple text objects with the same name(I have had success in manipulating only a single text object with one pair of buttons)?
The long of it - I am trying to make a form bilingual based on the value of a radio button group to control the visibility of the text object in the selected language. When the user selects the language they wish to see, all the text objects in the form switch to that language. I am working with a dynamic PDF.
I have succeeded to a very limited extent in manipulating one text object by overlaying text objects in both languages, setting one object to "invisible" as default, and controlling that text objects visibility with the following JavaScript in the click event of the radio button group:
----- form1.#subform[0].ENG_JPN::click: - (JavaScript, client) -------------------------------------
if (ENG_JPN.rawValue == 1)///1 equals the value of on
{English.presence = "visible";}
else
{English.presence = "invisible";}
if (ENG_JPN.rawValue == 2)///2 equals the value of on
{Japanese.presence = "visible";}
else
{Japanese.presence = "invisible";}
endif
The problem is I need to manipulate the visibility of all text objects with the same name on the form with a single radio button group. I have tried writing the code as one does for the sum of a repeating field, ie. English[*].presence etc. however I get a C++ error in preview.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I am truly stumped - thank you for your time.

To access objects with the same name you need to deal with occurance numbers. If your object is called TextField then the 1st occurance will be TextField[0], the second occurance will be TextField[1] etc.....
The issue is that the [] in javascript are interpretted as an array element so you have to use the syntax: xfa.reolveNode("string") to get to your object names. In your case you would use:
xfa.resolveNode("TextField[1]").presence = "visible"
This string syntax allows you to use a var to hold the index number and is very useful with for loops where you want to set large numbers of objects. So if the index was held in the var i then your syntax would be:
xfa.resolveNode("TextField[" + i + "]").presence = "visible"
If the objects are in a repeating subform then the occurance numbers are on the subform and not the object. You can always get the expression to use by app.alert(objectname.somExpression). This will return the expression that you need to create.
Make sense?

• Check box or radio button to control image opacity and text field. javascript

This is a little over head and skill set so I am reaching out to you fine people.
I am using Adobe acrobat pro x
I have radio buttons now but I can switch to check box if needed.
What I need the Java script to do is...
If Yes is checked then a text field labeled comments appears and an image labeled box changes the opacity to 100%.
If No is checked then it does the opposite. Text field disappears and image goes to 0% opacity.

This is the Adobe Reader forum. You are more likely to receive a helpful answer if you ask in the appropriate Acrobat forum (e.g. Acrobat SDK).

• Radio Button binding to XML

Based on the examples
here
and
here
I have a datagrid which uses an XML object as its dataprovider. The
xml goes like this:
<questions>
<question>
<prompt>What are your heroes?</prompt>
<answers>
<answer>
<correct>true</correct>
<text>Luther Higgs</text>
</answer>
<answer>
<correct>false</correct>
<text>Barney Fife</text>
</answer>
</answers>
</question>
</questions>
Well formed (if a bit confusing) xml. In my datagrid I have
two columns. The second column binds to
questions.question.answers.answer.text and works just fine. The
datagrid's editable property is set to true, and I'm able to click
on the second colum and type and it saves the answer back into the
xml object just fine. The problem lies in my first column. The mxml
looks like this:
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Correct">
<mx:itemRenderer>
<mx:Component>
<mx:VBox horizontalAlign="center">
<mx:RadioButton id="myRadioButton"
buttonMode="true" useHandCursor="true"
group="{outerDocument.myRadioButtonGroup}"
selected="{data.correct}"/>
</mx:VBox>
</mx:Component>
</mx:itemRenderer>
</mx:DataGridColumn>
The problem is that the radio buttons' selected properties
aren't bound to the xml, that is the one that is true doesn't
display as selected. If I set the datagridcolumn's editable
property to false, clicking on the radio button doesn't affect the
xml at all either. If I leave the editable property of the
datagridcolumn as the inherited default of true (based on the
parent datagrid's editable property) when I click on the radio
button the default itemEditor appears (a text input box) which
contains the following text:
</answer>
and when I leave the editor (click outside or hit enter) the
xml then looks like this:
<answers>
<answer>
<correct>true</correct>
<text>Luther Higgs</text>
</answer>
<answer>
<correct>false</correct>
<text>Barney Fife</text>
<null><answer>
<correct>false</correct>
<text>Barney Fife</text>
</answer></null>
</answer>
</answers>
I have seen controls that don't have the xml path written
correctly display the entire xml node rather than just the
contained data, but I can think of no reason anything should Ever
reference just the closing tag. To me this looks like a bug in the
data bindings between the radio button and the xml object.
Just to clear the air to avoid suggestions that will work but
not meet the design requirements, what I need is a datagrid that
has a radio button group (only one correct answer out of the group)
in the first column and strings in the second column which need to
be editable. I suppose I could write some hairy event listener code
and manually hack things together, but aside from avoiding that
headache, I'd love to use data bindings for what they were intended
for - I just need to know why it doesn't appear to be working
right. Much thanks in advance for any and all help.

Searching the LiveDocs revealed the answer. Under the topic
"Using an E4X expression in an <mx:Binding> tag" I found that
if instead of
<mx:RadioButton id="myRadioButton"
buttonMode="true" useHandCursor="true"
group="{outerDocument.myRadioButtonGroup}"
selected="{data.correct}"/>
I have
<mx:RadioButton id="myRadioButton"
buttonMode="true" useHandCursor="true"
group="{outerDocument.myRadioButtonGroup}"/>
<mx:Binding source="myRadioButton.selected"
destination="data.correct" />
It works just perfectly.
Apparently binding between XML and the selected property of a
radio button (which is of type boolean) needs the <mx:Binding
/> rather than the in-tag curly brace notation.

• How do I create radio buttons which hide certain fields when selected?

I have a set of two radio buttons, "Yes" and "No"
When the "Yes" radio button is selected, I would like the "Bank Name", "Branch Number", "Institution Number" and the "Account Number" field to all be blocked from entering content into them.
When the "No" button is selected, I would like for all of these fields to be available to be written in.
I can do this currently with check boxes, but the problem with those is that both boxes can be checked at the same time, which is problematic.
How can I make it so that the radio buttons control whether or not the fields can be written in!
Thanks very much!

Yes, I have done this. The buttons are mutually exclusive. The are in the group "Vendor EFT" - one is named "Yes", one is named "No".
When the "Yes" radio button is selected, I would like the "Bank Name", "Branch Number", "Institution Number" and the "Account Number" field to all be blocked from entering content into them.
When the "No" button is selected, I would like for all of these fields to be available to be written in.
Not sure what code needs to be written for this.

• Radio button selection showing panel form

Hi
I am using ADf
using jdev 10.1.3.
I am having table with radio button aside to that.My requirment is - when i am selecting radio button , panel form should be displayed.
I changed autosubmit property of radio button to true.
i have written ontableSelectionChanged method. and put this in selection listener of table.
please let me know what else i needed to done.
thanks in advance

Hi,
I assume that the radio buttons you mean is the singleTableSelect component. If you set this component to autosubmit=true then the table ets a selection notification for each row selection change. This can be listened for in a selection listener. In this listener you can then choose the panelForm component (that you set up to have its binding attribute pointing to a reference property in teh managed bean the listener is defined in) and set its rendered property to true. In a last step, you get access to teh parent container, the layout component that is the parent of the panelForm, - also through a binding reference - and call
AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(<parent component reference>);

• Radio Button bug

When converting my code from LV2011 to LV2012 SP1 I have the following weird phenomenon:
A Radio Button with option 1 and 2 visible inside a visible border - with AutoSizing set to "None" converts to the same size/location Radio Button with options 2 and 3 visible. Since I could not find any mention of bugs in Radio Buttons the past few years my guess is that this bug is unknown and still present in the latest version of Labview.
Could someone verify?

0utlaw wrote:
Hello Ettepet,
Could you clarify the behavior you're seeing?
Based on your description, it sounds like the following:
You have a radio button cluster (control) that contains three buttons. You have set some of these buttons to be invisible via the "visible" property node. When you upgrade the VI from LabVIEW 2011 to 2012 SP1, the buttons that are visible/invisible change.
Do you have a VI that demonstrates this behavior when upgraded that you could share?
Regards,
Your summation is almost correct: several buttons are set to be "visible" but not all are shown because of the resized (=smaller) border.
However, I just found out that even though I had this error a number of times (converting the same, gradually updated source) I don't seem able to reproduce it at this moment. It could be that some invisible property of the radio button was corrupted and that I 'accidentally' fixed it somehow. I will get back to this topic when I find a way to reproduce the bug.
edit: Thanks for your reply! ;-)

• Livecycle Designer 7.0 - How do I link a text box in a form to a radio button or checkbox?

Hello,
I am using Livecycle Designer 7.0 to create a form. I have a scenario where I have several options on a question where they choose one radio button. The last option of the radio button has a text box accompanying it and I only want it to be able to be filled out/typed into if that particular radio button is chosen. Not to be able to be typed into if that particular radio button is not chosen as an answer to that question.
How do I do that?
Also how to I do the same for a text box to be entered into and typed into only if the accompanying checkbox is checked?
Help?

This forum is for the Adobe FormsCentral (formscentral.adobe.com) which is a service that allows you to create, collect and analyze data using an online web form. • In a fillable form, can I add a visible label to radio buttons? I'd like to label them 1, 2, 3, etc.

I'm creating a form that uses radio buttons. I'd like a number to be inside the button. Is there a way to add a label to the radio buttons?

It is not possible to customize the appearance of the radio button at this time. Your options only allow you to select the placement of the label.

• How do I include the radio-button items on a second column as possible answers to the question?

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro X, we created a fillable PDF from an existing PDF.
One question can be answered by choosing one of four choices (radio buttons). The answers are laid out in a 2-by-2 arrangement.
When Acrobat Pro converted the PDF into fillable format, it thought that the radio-button answers on the second column are not part of the question.
How can I manually override Acrobat and make choices 3 and 4 part of the question.
Please click attached screenshot for better zoom.

George,
i am the OP. I mistyped my email address and cannot log in to my original account.
Thanks for your reply.
How do I give each radio button the same name but unique button values?
I right-clicked the first radio button, chose Properties (Ctrl+I).
I copied the name: "What is your personal net worth in Canadian dollars including spousecommon law partner if applicable".
I clicked Close.
I then went into the Properties dialog window of the third radio button, which is one of the ungrouped choices. I pasted the name [What is your personal net worth in Canadian dollars including spousecommon law partner if applicable]. I then clicked Close.
I get an error message pop up:
A field of a different type already uses this name. Please choose a new name for the field, or change the field type to match the existing field with this name.
What must I do now?
Thanks.

• Two radio button in each row of Table view

Hi,
I have a issue like two radio button should come in each row of the tableview and any one only can be selected and selected value should be assigned to a variable.
Kindly help with coding in methods RENDOR_CELL_START AND RENDER_ROW_START.
Thanks in Advance.
Saravanan.

Saravanan,
If you keep the Radiobutton in 2 different column then it wil difficult to put it in one Radiobuttong Group. I am not sure its possible or not. I would suggest you do keep both the "Approved" & "Rejected" radio button in single column as shown below so that the memont "Rejected" is selected, "Approved" will be unchecked.
WHEN 'Your Column'.
DATA: RAD_GRP TYPE REF TO CL_HTMLB_RADIOBUTTONGROUP,
RAD_BTN TYPE REF TO CL_HTMLB_RADIOBUTTON,
COL_BEE TYPE REF TO CL_BSP_BEE_TABLE.
CREATE OBJECT COL_BEE.
RAD_GRP = CL_HTMLB_RADIOBUTTONGROUP=>FACTORY(
ID = P_CELL_ID COLUMNCOUNT = '2' ).
COL_BEE->ADD( ELEMENT = RAD_GRP LEVEL = 1 ).
RAD_BTN ?= CL_HTMLB_RADIOBUTTON=>FACTORY( ID = '1' TEXT = 'Approved' ).
COL_BEE->ADD( ELEMENT = RAD_BTN LEVEL = 2 ).
RAD_BTN ?= CL_HTMLB_RADIOBUTTON=>FACTORY( ID = '2' TEXT = 'Rejected' ).
COL_BEE->ADD( ELEMENT = RAD_BTN LEVEL = 2 ).
P_REPLACEMENT_BEE ?= COL_BEE.
ENDCASE.
Again to get the selected radiobutton, use method REQUEST->GET_FORM_FIELDS
DATA: GT_TIHTTPNVP TYPE TIHTTPNVP.
REFRESH GT_TIHTTPNVP.
CALL METHOD REQUEST->GET_FORM_FIELDS
CHANGING
FIELDS = GT_TIHTTPNVP.
For example, suppose your 3r column has 2 radio buttons & In 1st Row if you've selected the radiobutton 2. THen get_form_fields return the below value.
TV1_1_3 = 2. Here TV1 is tableview name & 1 - Row 1 & 3 -Column three. value 2 indicates that 2nd radio button is selected.
DO 10 TIMES. "Here 10, stands for number of visible rows in tableview
concantenate 'TV1' '_' sy-tabix '_' '3' into v_cell_id. "Here now v_cell_id will have TV1_1_3 for 1st row & etc..
Read table GT_TIHTTPNVP into wa with key name = v_cell_id.
if sy-subrc = 0.
v_selected_rad_btn = wa-value. " THis will give you the selected radio button.
endif.
enddo.
Hope this will solve your problem.

• Radio Buttons and Event Structures

Guys, I am hoping for some help here on something I probably should know but cant figure out how to do. I am using a set of radio buttons and an event structure to run a UI. The radio buttons are acting as both a user input and indicator of current status selected by the user. I have the event structure set to run on value change of the radio button. All works great unless the operator decides that he wants to repeat the selection that the radio button is already set to. The event structure does not recognize this as a change of value and will not execute. Is there a way to set the event structure up to run even if the same selection of the radio button is made a second time? I attached a crude example to this post. Basically everytime I press the button, I want an entry made into the text box, regardless if the selected item was already pressed. Any thoughts.

Instead of hacking around the inherent nature of radio buttons, why not just use a Cluster? Its behavior in the UI is more customizable. Check this out:
I just replaced your radio buttons with a cluster, and added a little logic to the event structure to get it to behave the way you describe. I've attached the VI below, saved in 8.2, if you want to try it out.
Hope this helps,

• Radio buttons! Can someone please help?

I'm developing in PHP/MySQL. I've created a form consisting of a userID text form field, a RadioButtonGroup (3 radio buttons) and a submit button.
The idea is to populate the MySQL database with the data entered by the user. The problem I'm experiencing is that the radio button choice that the user selects is never entered correctly into the database: either all '0' or all '1'.
I would love to add the code here and an example of what the database structure looks like, but I don't even know how to do that! Could someone out there please reply?
Thank you.

Why dont u paste here the coding from the page u have problem with? Maybe we can figure ot what the problem is..

• Radio buttons breaking validation

Hi all,
I have a major problem with a form in that, bizarrely, radio buttons are breaking the validation of mandatory fields throughout the form.
On trying everything to narrow down what the issue is, strangely this seems to be it. For example, mandatory fields validate up until the first instance of a radio button in the form, where all other successive mandatory fields fail to validate after it. Simply moving a working field to after that first instance of a radio button in the hierarchy breaks it.
Validation is run through a custom submit button using execValidate.
Form elements (including radio buttons, text fields, validation/submit buttons, etc.) have been tested independently, and frustratingly, work when lifted into a new document. Therefore there must be something else in the form that's making it fail. Recreating the form isn't really an option due to it's complexity and size.
Any help would be massively appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT: Fixed. After whittling the form down to bare bones and going though the XML line by line (ouch), turns out the only real different thing between my original (broken) form and a new (working) test form was the target version. So changed back to 9.1. Curious, as using Acrobat XI ...
