No. of Columns limitations in Essbase Excel retrieval.

Dear All,
May I know the number of columns that Excel Essbase add-in supports. We are facing an issue while retreiving data for 261 columns in excel 2007 version fom Essbase 9.3.0 server.
Earlier I came across the situation that Essbase add-in for 2003 will support only 256 columns.
Please advise ASAP.

1. 256 columns was not a essbase excel add in constraint , but its of 2003 microsoft excel limitation,as it has 65,536 row limitation.
2. Coming to 2007, they have increased number of possible columns from 256 to 16384 ,so should be able to retrieve more columns technically. I dont see it as excel add in issue again. But i have not checked with so many columns , but from 2007 excel perspective they have defintely increased from 256 and also increase the row count from 65536 to more than a million.

    The message will pop up for administrators Only. There are a couple of things you can do.
    1. In the Essbase excel client on the global tab change warnings to errors.
    2. Upgrade to at least 7.165, it got rid of the license file (better yet, usgrade to 11X
    3. Contact support for a new master license file.
    4. Go here http://licensecodes.oracle.com/hyperion.html It appears they updated the file to expire on 12/31/2013

  • Enterprise Excel Retrieve Macro & Essbase

    Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has successfully implemented the Enterprise Excel Retrieve add-in as well as the Essbase add-in? Currently we use Enterprise for all of our reporting and are trying to implement Essbase 6.0 for data mining & analysis. However, since we have an installed base of Enterprise Retrieve users, we can't simply toss all of their old files and build new ones. So we need users to be able to access both Essbase and Retrieve.Having said all that, we have tried installing both the Essbase Add-In and Enterprise Retrieve. As soon as we log into Enterprise through Excel, Retrieve disconnects from the database. Further, it appears that simply installing the Essbase add-in breaks Enterprise Retrieve as it no longer functions even after you stop loading the Essbase add-in. So, has anyone experienced these problems and/or found a workaround? Any tips would be appreciated!

    HiHave got older versions of the two to work side by side, not too sure if the solution will work on these versions.It comes down to a path issue, you will need to alter the path statements so that Enterprise is before Essbase in the list.     I have a problem with old excel-addin, excel crash when retrieve data or drill down.
    smart view works fine, but is not compatible with old version of file excel created with old essbase add-in. Exist a work around to use old file excel with smart view.

    I'm trying to generate report from Apex 4.0.1, but I got stucked with column limitation when I'm executing the report query.
    Case:
    Environment: oracle 11g, apex 4.0.1, oracle BI 11, windows xp
    Table: My test table is quite simple, by creating a sample table with 44 columns, the column name is random, i.e. column1..column44, column data type is varchar2 (20)
    report query:my report query is also simple, by "select * from testtable"
    Ｄａｔａ: no data in my sample table
    Ｅｒｒｏｒ：　then I'll get the error: "HelpORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small"
    solution:　If I shrink the table column from 44 to 43, then the report can be generated to xls, pdf, etc.
    Question: Is there any column limitation for Apex report query? I know there's a 32k row size limitation for varchar, but since there's no single data in my table, it shouldn't be the case.
    Does anybody get this issue before? Thanks for any generous input!! :)

    There is a strange case, we have an customize concurrent program to display output in xml format. Now Problem is, if query get single record on the bases of parameter then there is no column heading available in excel. However, if parameter meet more than one record then there is no issue with column heading and reports is working find.

Let explain you, first i have run report by restricting query on single record which output name is "output1", again i run same report by changing where clause so it return multiple row which is "output2". if you past code in text document each one and save it as xml but when you open this file in excel report you will find column heading which rows consist multiple row, however, ouput1 file have no heading columns that's a problem.

  • Query on Essbase Excel Add-in

    I have a query on Essbase excel addin 6.5..By anyway is it possible to restrict the visibility of applications/Databases listed to any particular user for which they dont have access?
    I am using Essbase Application Manager 6.5.6. Please guide me if someone is aware of this.

    I, too, would recommend rebuilding the workbook.. Excel workbooks can get some funny behaviors, particularly if they contain VBA code. VBA in Excel stays 'semi-compiled' and never really clears itself out and a bunch of phantom references remain (and are completely hidden). I have seen some very strange behavior cleaned up by rebuilding the workbook..

    But i removed any one column, it wont make any problem and able to preview. Whenever put more than 18 columns, its throwing issue. Can you please help me to identify the issue.

    Are you talking about the fields coming from the Data Source Explorer?.
    If "Yes" then there is no such limits.
    Are you able to run the report through the eclipse designer?

    I recently upgrade from Excel 2010 to 2013, it seems Essbase Excel Add-in (1.1.2.2) has some issue with Excel 2013, does anybody experience this too, any advice on this?

    The excel add-in is not certified to work with Excel 2013 and a matter of fact, the only version of Smart View certified with it is 11.1.2..5 which just came out. The Essbase Add-in has not been updated in a shile and has been susetted by Oracle so there will be no new versions of it

    I was wondering if anyone knows if the Essbase Excel Add-In (v11.1.2.1) is compatible in Office 2010 (64-bit)?
    I found some search results from about 6-8 months ago saying that it was supported in Office 2010, but not in the 64-bit edition. Does anyone know if this has changed and if this is in fact supported?
    If not supported has it been tested to at least work?

    Hyperion software compatibility issues?
    Getting Essbase excel add-on error ("Error 1040007 Cannot find message database") after installing Hyperion Interactive Reporting Studio 9.3.1. We are able to consistently reproduce the error on several workstations.
    Any ideas?

    Try installing IR first, followed by the Essbase client. I think that worked for us. I can't recall what our path looked like in that scenario I just remember if we did it in that order things worked fine. I think Support said there is no certain "install order" that truly fixes the problem, that you have to manipluate the path by hand. But I'm pretty sure installing IR first worked in our enviro.
    I do not know of a way to install IR Studio without the Essbase components, my understanding from Support is that they changed the product install thinking it was better this way, they learned after the fact it actually causes the problem you experienced. I would imagine they've changed/fixed the install behavior again in post 9.3.1 releases, but haven't heard.
