No pictures - just empty frames ???

Just got our imac back after getting superdrive replaced (yet again !!!) - opened iphoto, and ALL of our pictures are showing up as empty frames. Still with info such as size and name etc, but just an empty frame. Editing and resizing doesnt help. Any help please?

Have checked as you suggested and this is what is in the pictures/iphoto library :

The 2006 folder has just 1 picture in it - the one i experimented with (it shows up in iphoto no problem). So it looks like they didnt back up any info (i dont know if they were asked to or not). Iphoto photo library still says we have 5000+ pictures for example
/Users/sharronandian/Pictures/iPhoto Library/2006/01/26/IMG_0125.JPG
so the path is still there but the actual file is not - correct?
Ok - some more info i can provide. My wife backed up our photo library before the mac went away (phew - god luv 'er) and the photo library is on an external hard drive - so i guess my next question is do i reinstall the library on to iphoto? and if so, how?

Can't See My Pictures--Just Empty Boxes

I just did a download of new pics from my camera to iPhoto. Somehow during the download I can't see my pictures in my library or in my albums. Just empty boxes show up. The count of the number of pics is accurate for both the albums and the library.
I restarted my computer, and rebooted with no luck.
I did a reboot holding down the "apple" and the "alt" key, and followed instructions, and still no pictures.
Any ideas of what I can do?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What do you see in the library, empty thumbnail spaces or empty edit windows? Is it all the photos or just some? Check in the Originals folder to make sure you have the full sized image files in the subfolders. They should all be there. Also do you have folder in the iPhoto Library folder titled "Recent Imports" or something like that?
Do you have a backup copy of the iPhoto Library folder or the iPhoto library database file, Library6.iPhoto?
If not and since you've tried rebuilding the library with no success you're going to have to start with a new library and import the image files from the Originals folder of the current library. Here's how:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the iPhoto Llibrary folder. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
If you have a recent backup copy of the library post back and we can go from there.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Out of the blue some of my event folders now fail to show the thumbnails, just empty frames? whats up with that?

for some reason, some of my event folders are blank on the events page and the event folders no longer show the thumbnails, just hash-mark empty frames. This is just a few events all of a sudden out of many events. Any idea whats going on and how to fix it? Thanks

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

We are just about to purchase an iphoto book but received the message that we had one or more empty photo frames. We have gone over each page several times and found no empty frames. We cannot purchase the book because we cannot get beyond this message.

So far every time this erros has occured it has been correct - the most difficult one to find is a full page photo layout behind a full page photo - this is hard to find - click here for a discussion on how to find it

The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder in the Finder.
Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

UseDefaultTile give-me a empty frame on Start Menu

Hello Everybody,
In a domain, I'm trying to put company logo as user picture.
I created a 128 x 128 bmp and saved it at "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\user.bmp".
To avoid users to change the picture I created the value on registry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"UseDefaultTile"=dword:00000001
After restart I'm getting an empty frame on start menu (I know the logon screen will have an empty frame, but I'm having empty frame on start menu and on lock screen).
If I change UseDefaultTile to "0" the picture is loaded normally on start menu and on lock screen, but user can change it.
Someone already has this problem?

Delete Empty Frames in Indesign through AppleScript

Hi Everyone,
We have some users who mistakenly add empty frames in the indesign document. (these are generally very small for example {4.9786 in, 3.9402 in} etc)
Can we identify such frames through an apple script.
Usually the frames can be made as a text frame, graphics or unassigned. I am able to delete the empty text frames by using below code:

However, not sure how to delete empty graphics or unassigned frames.

You could check the rectangle for graphic 1 and check the rectangle for its content type. Something like:

I need to delete all inline empty frames within a document. Those inline empty frames appear after a data merge is done.

If you search for these and replace with nothing, then all inline frames will be removed
But if you have other inline frames I think you may need a script for that.

Look for a page with a layout like this or the red warning triangle (for iPhoto 9):
It's easy to miss. Look for the red warning triangle in the corner of the page in the View All Pages view.

When I start facebook, sometimes it loads ok. But, since v29, it often loads with no photo images or only some photo images shown..just empty boxes.

Facebook loads ok as far as text is concerned. But, it often loads without any of the photo images visible. Sometimes it loads with a few of the images visible. When the images are missing there are just empty boxes where the photos should be. I never had this problem until updating to the latest firefox v29. If you guys can't fix this problem, is there any way to revert back to an earlier version of firefox? tht version worked just fine.

If images are missing then check that you do not block images from some domains.
*Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden Menu bar.
Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images
*Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
*If an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain.
Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the permissions.default.image pref on the about:config page should be 1.
Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"
Note that these settings affect background images.

Empty frames?

Hello, I try to order my photoalbum but keep getting this message: ' your album contains one or more pages with one or more frames without photo. Please change the lay-out of the pages or add photos to the frames before you can order the photobook'. I checked every page, but there are no empty frames. Sometimes I found some 'hidden' photos which I deleted. Eventually I even tried to make the whole photobook again. There are really no empty frames, but I still cannot order the photobook and keep getting the sames message. Who can point me in the right direction?

Look for a page like those in this screenshot, i.e. a page that is using a photo for the background. It can also have frames on the page.
