No ping response from PC to iMac

After many problems and fixes to iMac G5 and Windows XP PC
connected via a router, this one specific problem is immutable:
Do a ping from the iMac to the PC -- no response. Ping from
PC to iMac or iMac to router or PC to router -- good response. Just in case it means anything, the PC firewall is disabled.
Both computers can connect to the Internet (via router to Cable modem), but until I did a disk cleanup (via VCOM SystemSuite) the PC would disconnect after about 2 minutes (but only if the iMac was up and running w/router).
Any idea why the PC will not respond to the iMac ping?

The problem was not a cable after all. I have two firewalls
installed in the Windows XP computer: Windows and SystemSuite. At least one of them remains active when disabled; I think it is SystemSuite. Rebooting the PC after disabling the firewalls allows the ping. That has been pretty consistent.
When I enable the Windows firewall with the box "Don't allow
exceptions" unchecked, leave the SystemSuite firewall disabled, on start up the ping is ok. That allowed Samba to work and I can transfer files.
Moral of the story: If I load up the system with enough junk something will not work.
Thanks again.

  • How to disable inter-VLAN ping response from L3 switch

Correction - This was originally posted for my SG300, but it's actually one of my SGE/2010
I am experiencing an odd behavior from my SG300.  When pinging an IP that is in another VLAN (which requires L3 routing), my switch responds if an IP does not exist on the network.  For example, let's say I am on subnet A (192.168.0.0) and I want to ping an IP on subnet B (192.168.1.0).  If the IP does not exist on subnet B, the SG300 will respond that 'Destination host unreachable'.
You may ask, so what's the big deal?  And for the most part I agree, however, there are some circumstances where certain searches on the network falsely identify this as a device residing at that IP.  One example is Spiceworks and another is Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.  In both instances, the software is looking for devices to add to inventory and when it receives this 'Destination host unreachable' message from the SG300, it believes something is on that IP.
This problem does not occur if the search is on the same subnet, but only appears when it crosses over to another subnet and routing is involved.
My question is, how do I tell the SG300 to NOT respond with "Destination host unreachable" when an IP does not exist in another VLAN on the switch?
    Thanks in advance!

The PC10 in vlan 10 can not ping the gateway (10.64.16.1) of vlan 20. It can only ping its own gateway 10.64.8.1
Both hosts are running Windows 7 professional with firewall turned off.
The same for the PC20 in vlan 20. It can only ping its own gateway (10.64.16.1) but not vlan10's gateway (10.64.8.1)
In fact, just for testing purposes.
I temporarily assign g0/1/2 (which was on vlan20) to vlan10 now. Changed the host (PC20) IP to 10.64.8.3.
After this change, the 2 hosts can ping each other (in the same vlan 10)....that's expected. So, the OSes and firewalls issues on the hosts are not the issue. They can ping each other when they are in the same vlan.
However, now that they are in the same vlan, they still can't ping out to G0/0 192.168.0.162.
So, the problem is how to ping from the layer 2 EHWIC to the built-in G0/0 and G0/1 router ports?

  • Remote connection established - delayed ping responses - why??

When we have established a remote session with Cisco RAS it takes a long time - 30 secs to a minute - until we start to receive ping responses from a server on the network. Any ideas?

There is nothing wrong with the configuration because connection is established. With Ping command the normal response occurs in 1 to 10 seconds, depending on network traffic. But in you case it is taking more than 30m sec. this may occur due to big length cable use or traffic. To determine if ping is getting delay looked at the CPU.

  • CRS Engine restarts every 2-3 days due to NOT_OK response from Watchdog

    Hi,
we have 2 Cisco Unified IP IVR servers running version 7.0(1)SR03_Build011. Every 2-3 days, the CRS engine restarts at different times on both servers due to a Watchdog Thread received NOT_OK response from process CRS Engine.
These servers run independently of each other - (i.e not an HA pair) - but over the weekend, both servers had a CRS engine restart at the same time. I've looked at the MIVR and MCVD logs and they confirm this, but are so detailed, I can't actually still see what the cause is. There are a number of errors of different types, where the log seems to show a lot of 'exceptions', but it seems to lose connection to the Call Manager that causes the restart and it mentions buffer space.
We have a 3rd server which is not part of the solution that the other 2 servers provide, but it has the same OS, the same CRS application version and is connected to the same Call Manager; (version 6.1.3-200); but this server doesn't restart. It is on the same subnet as the other 2 servers.

    Hi
If it happened to two servers at the same time then I'd be looking off box for problems.
    - Check whether your CCMs were stable (use RTMT and check for events at the time)
    - Run a 'show spanning-tree active detail | i VLAN|hange' or similar to check for STP topology changes on the VLAN the servers are in. Short outages caused by bad port configs in the VLAN can cause CCX/IPIVR to get upset briefly and fail over when communication between different processes on the same box fall over; it can be very sensitive. Maybe also do a show log on the switches to see whether any other significant events happened at the same time.
    Regards
    Aaron

  • Anyconnect VPN PING replies from NAT address

I have been attmepting to setup an Anyconnect client to access an internal LAN via an ASA running 8.6(1)2.
The VPN client connects to the ASA successfully, and I get an IP address from the pool on the ASA, so far so good.
I have an issue whereby a ping from a AnyConnect VPN client to an inside host that has a static nat translation is getting a response from the nat (public) address rather than its real (inside) address as below:
C:\ ping 10.191.16.3 (inside host that is natted to lets say 123.123.123.123 on the ASA)
Pinging 10.191.16.3 with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 123.123.123.123: bytes=32 time=62ms TTL=127
How do I get the response to come from the real address?  Pinging inside hosts that do not have static NAT entries are ok.
Below is what I beleive are the relevant parts of the config..(Let me know if more is needed and I can post)

  • Ping response

Please be gentle with me thiss is my first post and I'm not really sure if I'm in the right place - if I'm not let me know and I'll repost!!
I have an iMac with a time capsule that I am using for back-up extra storage and wireless internet, I think I have the wireless bit sorted with the security protocols etc but..... when I use GRC (www.grc.com) to check my security it reports that everything is ok but.......I am responding to pings!! only when connected wirelessly!! that indicates it is the time capsule configuration that is causing my problem!! can anyone tell me how to stop my time capsule responding to pings??
    Thank you

Hi Andrew, thanks for the reply, I thought a ping response located your computer on the internet!! therefore allowing others to gain access to it!! (not a network specialist so this is all new to me!!) I have been into the firewall settings, guess I'll go back and have another look at them!! this perceived problem only occurs when I am connected through the airport, using the cable directly it doesn't happen!! I have had a look at my modem settings but there are no user definable parameters so I cant stop the modem responding this leads me to think its the airport causing my 'problem'

  • No response from the server

    Hi,
I have a G4 imac and powerbook both running 10.3.9. They are both conected to a network created by my airport express, they both get internet and I can print to the printer attached to the imac from the powerbook.
I have file sharing turned on on both computers and apple talk enabled for airport on both computers but when I click on the powerbooks icon in the network tab in finder it comes back with "Connection failed. No response from the server. Please try again."
I tried again and again and...
Also I can connect to the imac from the powerbook fine.
    Anybody got any sugestions.
    Thanks

Try following these instructions, which I have copied from another discussion:
The first step is: on each computer, go into System Preferences, then Sharing, and turn on "Personal File Sharing". On that page, you'll see, at the top, the computer's name (which you can change), and at the bottom, the IP number (eg 10.0.1.2), which you may need as an alternative.
Then, on each computer, go to Finder, then click on Network. You may straightaway see the other computer appear - you can click on it, click "Connect", and then either log in as a user (it has to be a user that's been set up on that machine), or a guest.
As a guest, you can access all Public folders on the computer.
As a user, you can access that user's Home folder
As an admin user, you can access the whole hard drive.
So, if you have different user accounts set up on the computers, it's best to use Guest access and then put the files you're sharing in your user's Public folder.
Now, if that computer doesn't immediately appear, go to the Finder, click cmd-K (to open the Connect to Server dialogue), and type in
    afp://ip-address-of-other-computer
    eg afp://10.0.1.2
You'll then get the same login dialogue as above.

  • Migrate from pc to iMac failure

    Hi Folks,
I'm a newbie iMac user and cannot get Migrate from PC to iMac working.
The iMac can see shared folders on PC, but the PC cannot connect to the iMac.
Both machines share wired router. I can ping from each machine to the other, the PC sees the iMac in the workgroup but cannot connect.
I need Migrate to bring over 4 Outlook Express folders (mailboxes) that were left out after two attempts by the apple store to migrate my doc's, photos and email. There is a utility called "Belkin Switch-to-Mac" on both machines.
I really need help to accomplish this hopefully one shot deal.
    Thanks,
    Peter

Please closely follow the directions in About MS Windows Migration Assistant, if you still have difficulty then call AppleCare, you have 90 days of free telephone support. Their phone number is in your owners manual. AppleCare can assist with the Apple side of things however remember they are not there to support networking on PCs. If you still have trouble you may need to visit a AASP or Apple Store.
You will need to study how to turn on file sharing on your PC, it's possible but as I recall on XP it was a little tricky.

  • For some reason my video just says, "waiting for a response from _____"?

For some reason the video chat doesnt even read that the other person has accepted the chat? I know the person who I am trying to video chat has no problem connecting with other people. Help please?

    HI,
iChat 2 through to iChat 6 then Messages beta in Lion and Messages full app in Mountain Lion can do Video chats.
I have an older G4/1ghz Dual Processor computer booted in to OS X 10.4.11 and iChat 3.1.9
I have issues with Messages trying to Invite the iChat 3.x.x machine.
It's video chat window does the same as yours, stating  it is " Waiting for a response from xxxx"
However no Visible invite ever appears on the iChat 3. computer.
On the other hand I can invite from iChat 3 to Messages and make a connection.
I am not having a issue from Snow Leopard (iChat 5) to Messages in Mountain Lion.
I had based my first reply on the Question
For some reason the video chat doesn't even read that the other person has accepted the chat?
(i.e. nothing about the computers involved).
From the newest MacBook Pro (not retina) to the new MacBook Pro (not retina).
This bit in your latest reply does really tell me where you bought them and what was installed when you got them and what is Installed now.
Some people have described problems on Lion machines after installing the latest Apple Remote Desktop Client
(Everyone has Apple Remote Desktop Client on their System and it is used with iChat in iChat Screen Sharing - it provides the Engine as it were.  It also does the Screen Sharing within the Finder as well as providing one end of the Apple Remote Desktop help)
As a starting point I would go to the app's menu > Preferences > Video Section ans set the Bandwidth Limit on both machines to 500kbps
This can help if there are vast differences in Internet speeds at either end.

  • How do you get a RESPONSE from Verizon?

How does one get a response from Verizon?  Here's my situation...
Given the amount of trouble that I have had with a recent order, you would think that I was trying to land a 747 jet on my roof.  In reality, all I was aiming to do was to cancel the $19.99 per month phone service that I never used.  I do not even own a phone, for that matter.  I also had enhanced high speed Internet, and I wanted to retain the high speed Internet.  A few days before January 13, 2012, I called Verizon and spoke to the 1st sales representative, who ensured me that it was no problem to cancel the phone service and yet retain the high speed Internet for the same monthly price.  24 hours later, my high speed DSL service was no longer functioning.  I will try to briefly explain the disastrous customer service that ensued.
The first several phone calls to Verizon were not productive as I was transferred to the wrong department, and then at least one of my phone calls was dropped by the Verizon server.  The representative did not call me back.  I finally got in touch with a technical support representative, the 2nd Verizon representative, who informed me that the high speed Internet had been turned off and that I had to speak to a sales representative to solve the issue.  Another sales representative, the 3rd Verizon representative, informed me that the 1st representative had cancelled my phone line, and thus cancelled all of my services.  Great.  The 3rd representative informed me that he was absolutely capable of handling the problem and that he would simply add a new order for high speed Internet, which was to be activated the next morning.  The next morning came and went, and guess what?  No Internet.  I called again.  The 4th Verizon representative told me that everything that had been done previously was incorrect and that the sales department is not capable of making such changes.  She told me that she could not help me and that my claim had to be submitted to a different department, which has the authority to un-do all of the previous changes.  She told me that I would receive a call back the same day to resolve the issue.  Given my previous experiences with Verizon, I was confident that I would not, in fact, receive a call back and so I asked her how I could get transferred to this department, if I needed to call again.  She said that I could not be transferred.  Okay.  So then I asked her what to ask for so that next time I called, I could be transferred to the correct department without dealing with yet another sales representative who gives me yet a different story.  She informed me that she could not provide that information to customers.  The Department That Shall Not Be Named (and that I cannot contact) did not call me, and I was not surprised.  Unfortunately, I did not know how to go about contacting them, because, as I was told, customers aren’t allowed to do that.
The 6th phone call to Verizon was dropped by the Verizon server.  The 7th phone call to Verizon went to the 5th Verizon representative, a sales associate who placed us on hold for the first 15 minutes only to inform us that she could not find any record of our Internet service.  What the heck was she doing, checking her Facebook account?  She finally returns, puts us on another extended hold, and then adamantly tells us that we need to speak with technical support, which, if you recall, was the first Verizon party that I spoke at the beginning of this debacle.  The 5th  representative transfers me again to technical support.  Of course, the technical support personnel, the 6th Verizon representative said what the first one did, that the account was inactive and that we needed to talk to the sales department.  My husband was on the phone at this point because I was DONE.  When the 6th technical support representative tried to transfer him back to the sales department, my husband insisted that the 6th technical support representative remain on the line while we spoke to yet another sales representative, the 7th Verizon representative.  The 6th technical support representative patiently waited with us while we sat in yet another long queue to speak with a member of the sales department.
The 7th sale representative, from the retention department based out of New Jersey, found that all previous orders had been set up erroneously.  She cancelled the old orders and reinstated a completely new order.  The DSL began working a few days later.  MAGIC.  She then left me a voicemail message saying that she would eliminate the activation and shipping fee (duh) as I never canceled the account to begin with and as I already had the equipment.  She also applied a coupon to reduce the price to around $30 per month, assured for the next 2 years.  I was relieved.
You can imagine our frustration then when we received the bill for $79 on February 6, 2012, which included a much higher monthly rate (around $45) and the shipping and activation fee of $19.99 that we were assured we would not pay. Again, nothing was shipped to us because we already had the equipment.
Our next phone call to Verizon landed us with a guy, the 8th Verizon representative, who had no intention of helping us.  According to him, there was no record of these wrongs, and despite the fact that we had an old account number and three order numbers that were screwed up, he did not deem that there was enough evidence to change our monthly bill.  (Unfortunately, the 7th Verizon representative did not make notes or appropriately document the situation on the new account.)  The 8th Verizon representative then had the audacity to comment that we could be lying to him, yet he was unwilling to view the evidence that we could have presented.  Instead, he suggested that we call tech support again and try to go through the same process to get connected to the mysterious “retention department” which he knew nothing about.
At this point, I was beyond fed up.  The attitude of the 8th Verizon representative put me over the edge.  I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with an abbreviated version of this story.  I did not file the complaint to get back at Verizon.  Instead, I filed the complaint because I knew that another phone call to Verizon would be useless.  I’ve been dealing with this issue for over a month, and I’m sick of it.  I have better things to do with my time, believe it or not, and this situation has resulted in a significantly waste of my time over what, in my opinion, was a very simple issue to resolve.
The BBB processed the complaint and I was contacted last Friday afternoon by a Verizon representative (the 9th) who said that she was looking into the matter and that she would respond to me within two to three business days.  Well, it’s almost the end of the week, and I have received no response.  Again, after all of this, how could I be surprised?
I have been a Verizon customer, wireless and residential, for as long as I can remember, but I am reaching the point of outrage.  This situation is truly unacceptable.
You would think that, in 2012, with all of the technology available to us and the fact that Verizon is a COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY, that at least Verizon employees would be able to make a basic change to an existing order and that at least one out of 9 Verizon representatives would be able to solve this issue in a span of over four weeks.  Think again.

It boggles the mind.  The Verizon store on L Street downtown Washington, D.C. cannot access my Verizon account.  They can only sell cellphones then it's up to me to contact Verizon on my own to get the hook up. I even asked "Are you Verizon employes?  Is this a vendor store or is it really a Verizon owned and operated store?"  The answer "Yes, we are Verizon employes, yes this is a Verizon owned and operated store" ...
Yes, it indeed boggles the mind.  I'm of course referring to the fact that your post concerns Verizon Wireless products and services.  This forum is dedicated exclusively to Verizon Communications services.   As you probably know, Verizon Wireless and Verizon Communications operate as separate companies.
If you need help for a Verizon wireless product or service, it's best to direct questions to the Verizon Wireless forums.  You can reach them by clicking on "Wireless" (either here or at the top of the page).
Good luck and I sincerely hope you get your issue resolved.

  • Issue with receiving response from web application

    Hi,
I have configured B2B with business protocol as 'Custom document document over Internet', document exchange protocol as AS2-1.1 and transport protocol HTTPS1.1 to invoke a web application deployed in Oracle Application server. Hi,
Request and Response should be part of same agreement. I hope you are not confused between Acknowledgement and Response. Acknowledgement can be received in the same session (sync mode) but Response will always come in a different session and will be treated as a different document. If, for request, party A is initiator and B is responder then for response party B will be initiator and party A will be responder (as Requset and Response are two docs in case of Custom Document)
For configuring X-Path, please refer section 8.3.11 Configuring the XPath Expression for a Custom XML Document at below link -

Please let us know whether you are trying to receive a response or Ack?

How can I connect my new MacBook Air to a LaCie hard disk with TIme Capsule backup from my old Imac? LaCie has USB 2.0, FireWire and eSata ports.

You can direct connect your MBA to the LaCie via USB 2 cable.  If you have an Apple Airport Router you can USB connect the LaCie drive to the router and then use Airport Utility to configure it.  Time Machine can access it either way.
