No Private Browsing Menu

Hi there,
I have just upgraded to OS 10.4.7 with Safari version 2.0.4 (419.3) and am still playing around with this version of OS. So far, I have encountered to problems with Safari.
1. There is no “private browsing” option under the “Safari” menu.
2. I cannot customize the Address Bar. All the options (under the View menu) are blanked out.
Any suggestion? Thanks.

SIYW,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Quit Safari, find the com.apple.Safari.plist file in
your Macintosh
HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder,
drag it to the Desktop, log out/in or restart, and
check for functionality.
If that is unsuccessful, I would recommend that you
download and reapply the Mac OS X Update 10.4.7 Combo
PPC.
;~)
Thank you for the help. Unfortunately, none of the suggestions worked. Since I had a full backup before upgrading to 10.4, I decided to reinstall the OS. The second time with a clean installation. That solved the problem. Thanks again.

  • Can I permanently disable private browsing

We use covenant eyes to track all internet activity on our devices, but private browsing prevents this from being 100% accurate. We can see that private browsing has been used, but we don't know what was accessed. Can we permanently disable private browsing or lock with parental controls?

  • After quitting a "private browsing" session, and I quit togo back to previously open tabs/pinned sites, 40% of the time, the Browser does not restore all previously open tabs/pinned apps/sites

Using HP Pavilion Dv7 with Windows Home Premium, 64bit, and only now and then will FF4.0.1 restore previous (normal) session after returning from a private browsing session, )I use the Quit Private Browsing menu item from the Toolbar right-click menu to go back).... In addition, previously Pinned sites (apps) are lost also, and all must be re-added.
Inconsistent failure and I've not been able to reliably reproduce-- sometimes (about 4-6 times in 10) it just loses all previous information.

I would add that bookmarks may be organised into folders and subfolders. You may wish to make more use of bookmarks if only to ensure you do not loose everything if your session restore becomes problematic.
Bookmarks are a bit more robust than the session restore system. Firefox backs them up automatically and you may do so manually. Possibly Firefox will behave better and faster with hundreds of bookmarks but only tens of tabs open. There is also the tabs groups, but that is something I think development has ceased on and may have similar issues to session restore / or open tabs.

  • The private browsing option is gone from the tools menu, the one in the file menu dosn't work the same.

Firefox updated itself this morning to 20. The option to start private browsing in the tools menu is gone. The one in the file menu is not the same, it works differently. I would really like to no how to re enable this feature. I always have a lot of tabs up. When I feel so inclined I would hit the private browse button then close. When I would reopen all my tabs would be there. this is but one example of how I used private browsing. If you could help me with this problem I would be very happy. Thank You for your time and support.

Hello, when you start the new private browsing, starts in a new Private Window, and you first window it is exist also.
If you close the private browsing window, your first window exist, but if you close the browser you must set it to '''Show my windows and tabs from last time''' (in Options > General panel > start up) :, [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/startup-home-page-download-settings#w_startup Startup] to see again your tabs and windows when you start firefox.
    thank you

  • How can I remove private browsing as an option on the Firefox Menu? My kids use this computer and I don't want them to be able to private browse.

I want to remove the Firefox menu option for Private Browsing because my kids and teenagers use this computer. How can I do that? Private Browsing cannot be an option for my children. If I cannot remove it, is my only option to remove Firefox altogether?

This is new. Read carefully the section "About this Add-on". Not 100%, but there is no real way to totally take PB out of Firefox; that is also the case for other browsers that have a similar feature, as far as I know:

    Hello,
    ''jstavene wrote:''
can find nothing under the tools menu for private browsing?
Then it's not the same issue.
If Firefox is set to '''Never remember history''', then you're in “permanent private browsing” mode, in which case the menu item ''Stop Private Browsing'' will be grayed out. Perhaps that's the case, and you don't find the menu item easy to see?
    * [[Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track]]
If that's not the case, then menu items can be hidden using the userChrome.css file. Check if it exists, and if it's there, rename it, then restart Firefox.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css
In Firefox Nightly (what will become Firefox 20), per-window private browsing has been added, so the menu item under the Tools menu is gone. It's been replaced by New Private Window under the File menu. I don't suppose it's very likely that you're using such a cutting-edge test version of Firefox though.
If that doesn't solve the problem, since it's a different issue, it would be best if you would ask a new question.

  • In WinXP,Firefox 7.0.1,Private Browsing is grayed out,no Tools menu available as instructed in Help.

I'm using Windows XP and Firefox 7.0.1.
    Private Browsing is grayed out.
Help says go to Tools menu but there is none available.
How do I enter Private Browsing ?

*Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
*Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.
You may already be running Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

I want to use private browsing in Mozilla Firefox. When I click on Tools the drop-down menu shows the Private browsing, but it is in grey and therefore it is not live. How can I apply private browsing and un-apply it, as appropriate?

    * You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed.
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>

  • Private browsing on right context menu on Mozilla Firefox Shortcut icon on MS Win XP

I am already aware that Mozilla Firefox Web browser has the option to always start Firefox in Private Browsing mode, by putting the mark in its on Options...
However, I noticed that on MS Win 7 OS, we can run Mozilla Firefox Web browser directly, by clicking right click (right context menu) on Mozilla Firefox Shortcut icon (for e.g. in Windows Taskbar and Start Menu) and here is immediately available options: "Enter Private Browsing", "Open new tab" and "Open new window".
Now, my question is, can I do something that this same options (or, at least "Enter Private Browsing option), is also available on that same just before described way like on MS Win 7 OS, but on MS Win XP OS also?
Thank You in advance for help!
    Best regards!
    Bruno.H.

Sorry, that is a feature in Windows 7 which isn't available in WinXP. You would need to ask about that in a Windows support forum to see if or how something like that could be added to WinXP.

  • I have set Firefox to never remember history, and 'Stop private browsing' is accordingly greyed out in the options menu, but Firefox still remembers history items even after restart -- why?

I have just downloaded Firefox after reformatting my hard drive so I was not upgrading -- I wonder if I am missing a file which would have been there if I was upgrading from an earlier version.
Not much else to say: I ticked the relevant boxes.

If you set "Firefox will: Never remember history" then you enter Private Browsing mode immediately.
You can see a grayed "Tools > Stop Private Browsing" to confirm that.
This doesn't affect already stored History, but Firefox won't add new visited links to the History.
If you want to remove sites from the History then you need to do that yourself.
You can (temporarily) set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo] to ''0'' to clear the ''Recently Closed Tabs'' list.
Use the ''Reset'' context menu item to re-enable ''Undo Closed Tabs'' with the default value if you want to re-use that feature.
You can temporarily set the pref browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo to 0 to reset the Recently Closed Windows list,
However there appears to be always one window left that is only removed if you close and restart Firefox.
You can avoid that by closing all tabs before closing the window with only an empty tab left.
Set the pref '''browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab''' to ''false'' on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing the browser.

  • My Firefox updated this morning. What happened to my In-Private browsing in the Menu Bar? it's gone!

My Firefox updated this morning. What happened to my In-Private browsing in the Menu Bar? it's gone!

Yes, they made it able to start a "private Window"...
    But does it WORK?
I noticed that in v20, Firefox send cookies that were set before the "private Window" was opened.
    This means NO PRIVACY !!!
A site you visit in your "New Private Window" will ID you by the cookies it has set in the past.
Privacy is gone... bye bye ...
Of course one can manually delete the cookies for a certain domain.... but why would i want to go through all this work...
    I hope it's fixed.
And if it's not fixed.. it will be bye bye Firefox ... terrible choice.

I do not want the option for private browsing on this computer. Please help me make it go away! I have Firefox 6.0. Thanks.

This extension disables Private Browsing, hides all the PB menu items and disables the keyboard controls, disables the clearing of browsing history, and the extension doesn't appear in the Add-ons except for the Firefox SafeMode. <br />
