No Shadow settings on Call of Duty 4?????

I was wondering if anyone is missing the shadow settings for COD4 for the mac. Does anyone know how to turn on the shadows???

  • Best settings for Call of Duty 4 on the new Imac's

    Hello all. Not really PC gamer but decided to purchase this game to go along with my new iMac (Early 09 24" 3.06 with GT 130) and Bose speakers..
    Just wanted to know if I can play this game at full graphic settings without without any lag of some sort. What settings are you guys using? I must say that it does look good but not as crisp and smooth as the PS3 version, maybe I'm wrong..or have the wrong settings.
    Any insights or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Playing Call of Duty II on my new MacBook Pro... Not Good!

    Just bought a brand new MacBook Pro with ALL the trimmings - and Call of Duty II makes my mac run like I was playing on a Commodor 64.
    Does anybody had the same experience - and have you found patches or updates that fixes this problem?

    Well, I can offer some things that helped me out *a lot*.
    First, I also suffered interminably from my MacBook Pro's malaise while doing 3D gaming-- wondering why I was running games so poorly on a piece of iron that was relatively recent. So, here are the solutions I tried in order.
    1) Increased my 2GB of RAM to 3GB of RAM via a Crucial.com RAM purchase. Cost me $100 bucks. I think it was worth it for my gaming and other needs. I have to say that this change alone I did before I ran the Call of Duty 2 demo. I own Crysis and found that the expanded RAM only improved my gaming slightly (~30%). With Crysis and 3GB of RAM, I still had chunky gameplay and I found that 1024x768 was largely unplayable when there was a lot of action on the screen.
    2) I made sure that both Bootcamp and Windows XP had all of the latest software updates. Run "Automatic Update" from XP (I'm assuming you're running XP) and then use Apple's "Software Update" mechanism (search for it, if you can't find it) that Apple has built into Windows in order to update Apple's software on the Bootcamp side of the house, too.
    3) I downloaded the "Mobility Modder" application (you can get it at driverheaven.net for free) that runs under XP and Vista. Someone else on the forums suggested it, and I also recommend it. It let me tweak the settings of my ATI Radeon card (check to see if your brand and model of card is supported) and then download the latest drivers for my MacBook Pro. (Personally, I have an ATI Radeon X1600 card in my MBP.) The app is free. Also, when you download the new ATI drivers you get this "free" application called EarthSim. It's very cool and when I plugged my MacBook into my HDTV using a DVI-->HDMI cable, it was beautiful seeing the earth on the screen. Absolutely gorgeous!
    4) Finally, ensure you download an app like WinClone and backup your Windows partition before you start tweaking stuff (or after, if you're feeling adventurous). I find that it took me eons to get all my software working correctly in XP and it prevents a major re-installation of stuff should you change a setting on something that suddenly hoses something.
    5) Lastly, there are those pesky graphics settings in Call of Duty 2. Do not let the app make the "recommended graphics suggestions" for you! It'll give you horrible eye-candy. I haven't copied down my settings (to share with you), but I can tell you that I changed it to 1024x768. Turned on 2x anti-aliasing. SyncEveryFrame was set to OFF. I also turned OFF the other setting underneath SyncEveryFrame. Most other stuff I turned on or set to at least NORMAL. Naturally, YMMV.
    I manually changed almost all of the settings to try to take advantage of the "new" horsepower my MacBook Pro was packing with the Mobility Modder app having put me in fighting shape.

  • 24" iMac + Call of Duty 4 (MW):  Setting up graphics for multiplayer

    Any savvy iMac Call of Duty 4 (Modern Warfare) players out there? I'm having a hard time finding posts at Aspyr or online that directly related to the ideal graphic settings for the game, using an imac 24". The manual that came with the game also doesn't explain any of the settings. Could any good players who have the game running smoothly on an imac 24" please share.
    I have heard some guys dummy down all their settings to try and get the best fps possible, but when I do that, it never changes my fps.
    So far this is how I have mine set for multiplay, but I know I'm missing things:

    Video mode: 1024X768(lots of screen sizes available)
    Refresh: 60HZ (the only setting available)

    I have just got this game thinking it would run great on my mac. But on mine the frames really dip when there is lots going on. I`ve tried lowering the settings, but from what I can tell this doesn't help. There seems to we very little information on the net about the Mac version of this game. If you have found some good settings please let me know as I`m a little disappointed with it.

    consoles. Right now, we have all secondary weapons being available and most of
    those weapons are pistols. But it's not specfically limited to pistols. Don't fret
    tho. Most launchers need a lock on making them not so great vs infantry.

    perk in Call of Duty Black Ops.

    you can do exclusions. So as long as we have a playlist with mixed modes,
    you'll be able to customize from their. For example: Ditching a map you don't
    want in rotation.

    competitive and it probably wont be competitive until mod tools are out. So
    what time do you think mod tools will be released?
    6:33 PM DanBu: No ETA on mod tools release yet. The game will ship with
    highly competitive modes like hardcore, barebones, and any number of custom
    game modes that you create in the Custom Games editor. You've also got Wager Match
    which is crazy intense! Most competitive I've felt playing a game in years.

    will you be able to look at thousands of reports? and what do you have in place
    for bogus reports?

    a full-time job of monitoring all of the games you guys play. They also review
    the stats for cheaters reported by the game and cheaters reported by other
    players. There are all sorts of secret magical things happening behind the
    scenes to track cheaters.

    aggravated when one weapon type is 10x better and easier to use. Can you please
    explain how shotguns are being made into a balanced primary weapon?>
    6:37 PM DavidVo: We have always felt that Shotguns are better as primary
    weapons instead of secondaries so you have to give up any hope of winning a mid
    or long range battle.

    said the Max players have not been finalized but that was some time ago. Is
    there now an answer to the Max amount of players we can have in Ranked and
    unranked servers on PC?
    6:38 PM DanBu: Hello Linage... It's true they are deadly at close range
    for sure. But that doesn't mean you can't win if you have an assault rifle or
    smg. Current player counts are set to 18 players max on ranked and 24 on
    unranked, but these numbers are always tunable post-launch. We'll be
    aggressively supporting the title post-launch. Remember they often have far
    less ammo or they have the rechamber time. Also, shotguns have fewer
    attachments than other weapons available to them.

    perk - it allows you to detect enemy placed equipment in the map. When you
    upgrade to Hacker Pro, you can actually hack their equipment to switch it to
    your possession without them knowing.

    playtime. The best players in the building can do it in 20 or 21. Make sure you

    launcher from one team's spawn to the other) be changed, gimped, or completely
    blocked in Black Ops? If so, how?

    called Flak Jacket. It protects you from explosive damage. I roll with this
    perk all the time to frustrate noob tubers.

    decision for SCAVENGER not to REPLENISH Tubes and Flame thrower? me
    personally i love using the MASTERKEY shotgun.
    6:46 PM DanBu: As to spawn tubing... we've added a grenade launcher and
    grenade delay to the beginning of every match to reduce noob tube spam. I love
    the Masterkey as well. But, hey, balance trumps my love. So even if people fire
    them, they won't detonate for the first 5-10 seconds depending on the size of
    the map. At this point, if you have Masterkey, Flamethrower, or Grenade
    Launcher, you are carrying A LOT of Firepower. We did it for balance reasons.

    range, speed, crazy aim-assist on consoles (comparing a non-commando melee
    attack of modern warefare to that of the one in black ops)

    about melee. You have probably heard by now that we don't have the Commando
    perk in the game.

    to keep it all on an even playing field.

The maps, game modes, and gameplay mechanics are all very fine-tuned over months and months to play a certain way... so when it comes to competitive ranked servers, it's going to be determined by the playlists.

    7:09 PM DavidVo: Using a playlist is something that it relevent for rented ranked servers. Unranked servers will give you more control. Even then, you'll still have a ton of control over the Playlist. It's like a nice suggestion and you modify (eliminate) what you don't want.

    7:10 PM DavidVo: I think people are going to be blow away by the things we've done with Private Match in this game. Let me give you some examples. You can make up to 10 classes loaded out with what you want and only what you want and then the players of your game will pick between those load outs. You can customize what killstreaks are in your game mode variant. Dan and I like to player Pistols + Shotguns only. In Nuketown. Of course, I win.  Always.

    7:16 PM DavidVo: Two forms of co-op in Black Ops. Combat Training (play vs Practice Dummies) and Zombies (play with your friends). Both are games where you fight AI Campaign co-op wasn't something we decided to persue because it didn't make sense for the type of story we were trying to tell.

    7:18 PM DavidVo: I heart Donovanmill. We actually totally ditched the old leaderboard systems and started over. In Black Ops, we use a Score per minute Average on weekly, monthly, and all-time leaderboards. This has a lot of advantages because it doesn't reward just the players who play a lot, but those who play the best. You can still check all those stats that were in the old leaderboards in something new we have called the Combat Record. It's an in-game stats viewer.  You'll dig it.
    7:20 PM Glorin: Do headshots matter, particularly with the more powerful assault rifles? In mw2 stopping power created a situation where many guns killed in two hits regardless of whether or not you aimed for the head. Since BO does not have stopping power, do any of the full auto weapons have damage that is this high?

Once it's in your File Share, anyone in the community can search for it and place it in their File Share as well. Your friends will be able to look at your File Share as well. Things other than Custom Games that go into your File Share: Films, Clips, & Screenshots.

  • Can't get PS3 controller to work on iMac with Lion with Call of Duty 4.

    I was able to pair my PS3 controller with my iMac, running Lion, but it will not do anything.  I am trying to use it with Call of Duty 4.  My bluetooth says it is connected to the controller.  I really don't have any other games to try it on to see if it is a game compatability issue.  Is this a known problem?  How do I make it work?

    There's one more way that the previously-existing Oracle directories on the other machines might be tripping you up - with registry settings. In particular, the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\(some home)NLS_LANG registry key may be associated with the "invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified" error you're getting.
    Of course, the Instant Client isn't supposed to have to mess with the registry, so that makes me suspicious. And I got Instant Client SQL*PLUS on a clean XP machine to work without setting an ORACLE_HOME. All this makes me suspicious that some stuff from outside your Instant Client is being run. I know you said you cleaned your environment variables, but double-check that the other Oracle directories are out of your PATH.
    If you have permission to, you might want to thoroughly scrub the old Oracles from the other machines (starting with running the Oracle Installer, then hand-cleaning the registry, the c:\Ora92 or whatever directory, and then c:\Program Files\Oracle). If you have MetaLink, Document 74790.1 is a dated but good guide to cleanly de-installing an old Oracle installation from Windows. It's much more difficult than it ought to be; sometimes it feels like an Oracle home is never truly gone. If you can't do that, perhaps save a copy of your registry and then temporarily rename HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE to ORACLE_HIDDEN, or something - something to keep any existing registry settings from distracting your Instant Client.

    But i got direct rending and i tried to install the mesa-git and libgl-dri-git packages from AUR, but that didn't help.

    When he installed the new fibre hub, did he use his laptop to take settings off old white hub and put it on new one?... way to check is dial into the hub ( 192.168.1.254 ) go to setting and then wireless, and see if the hub name and key are the same that is printed on card and back of hub....as this could be your problem...one thing to try is set the new hub back to default ( you will have to reconnect anything that uses wireless ) and see if this sorts it out.

  • Call of duty 1.5 patch on intel working for anyone?

    If anyone has seen my past posts you would know i have been having some problems with my 24" intel iMac and call f duty and call of duty United Offensive. Well to save you all the past posts..i have finally gotten the disks installed on my computer and running. the problem is if i try to install the 1.5 patch for COD. the installation doesn't happen. it stops installing at the start and looks like it will continue but never does. I called Aspyr and they said that the patch is not intel compatible and that it won't install. bummer. however they also told me that COD in general would not run on an intel or with my graphics card and it runs 100% better than COD 2 does....which runs like atari. has anyone installed the 1.5 patch successfully? if so how? thanks

  • Call of Duty error

    I just download the sample copy of Call of Duty... It ran very well with 1 gig of ram and highest video setting. Only problem when halfway through game I got the following error FS_Handleforfile:none free! what in the world is that error?
    Fan kicked in around 70c and when I quit the game temp was 65c that was pretty impressive.

    what i would try is to uninstall and reinstall call of duty, also make sure you dont have the settings where they exceed your system specs, ex, graphics card. that can cause some complications as well, but what it sounds like is a corrupted file that occured during install.

    Will my MacBook Pro be able to play the original Call of Duty? I am not looking to play Call of Duty 2.

    I've been running Call of Duty with the 1.5c patch on my MacBook Pro for the last couple months. There's a couple graphics bugs in it (especially in the russian campaigns) but other than that I haven't seen any slowdowns. Oh, and I have everything in the performance settings turned up.     I occasionally get a random NAT type 3 message on MW3. This is what I do...
    If you're sure all the correct ports are open (or have UPnP taking care of it on the router) and you have MW2 disk, put that in and go to the multiplayer game mode and check it says your NAT Type is Open.
    Hold the PS button, exit the game, eject the disk and put MW3 back in... Voila!
    The above might work with other COD titles but I haven't tried it.
    You could also try giving the PS3 a static LAN address using the PS3's Internet Connection Settings.
    (Note these settings work for me using BT Hub V2 but might be different on other routers).
    On the PS3, go to:
    Internet Connection Settings >> OK
    Custom
    Wired Connection / Wireless (chose whatever you're using)
    Go through all your settings until you get to IP Address Settings and select Manual
    Use the following settings...
    IP Address 192.168.1.100
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Default Router 192.168.1.254
    Primary DNS 192.168.1.254
    Secondary DNS 192.168.1.254
    The last octet in the 'IP Address' field needs be in the range 64 - 237 as defined by the Hub's DHCP Server and not currently in use by another device on your network. I use 100 as it's easily identifiable.
    Other DNS Settings work too, for example those provided by http://www.opendns.com/
    Primary DNS 208.67.222.222
    Secondary DNS 208.67.220.220
    Go through the rest of the settings...
    MTU >> Automatic
    Proxy Server >> Do Not Use
    UPnP >> Enable
    Test the connection and try MW3 again.
    The putting-the-MW2-disk-in trick works for me all the time; the let's-give-the-PS3-a-static-IP trick might not, but it's something you can try

  • WRT150N Call of Duty 4 cannot access game servers

    I have a wrt150n and am trying to play Call of Duty 4, but there are no servers that show up in the list when i try to join multiplayer.  I have tried a few things and Linksys phone support has had me try to forward port 28960.   They had me do this under port range triggering.  It did not help.  If I try to forwared under single or port range forwarding, I can't get my settings to save.  Anyone with a suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    Make sure that you have updated Cod4 to the latest update or it wont show any
    servers ... I have a N150   updated the Firmware on it to 1.50. Dont have any issue getting on Cod4 servers.

    You purchased the wrong MacBook Pro if gaming is your thing. The simple fact is that MacBook Pro's are not designed as gaming machines, per se, and your model...a 13" with integrated graphics...no dedicated GPU...is a poor choice for graphic intensive games.
