No sound on rented movie

Movie displays in video. A few muffled clunks from the subwoofer is all I hear. Movie trailers from iTunes also lack audio. Reboot no help. Audi fine for iTunes music, Hulu, netflix, web etc. Only iTunes movies affected.
Have latest iTunes and QuickTime versions.

Assume you've unplugged the unit. Try turning Dolby Digital on/off and also tweaking teh other sound setting on teh unit for HDMI (12 vs 8 bit from memory).

  • Why do I have pictures but no sound on rented Movies?

I recently set up my Apple TV on a new TV set (in the same house and on the same wireless network), everything works except when playing back rented movies there is no sound. Movie previews play normally with sound, also radio stations play normally, I'm really stuck, please help if you know how to fix this, Thanks J.

Go to Settings for Audio and Video.
Under the Dolby Digital entry, set this to Off or Auto.

  • NO SOUND iTunes rented movies

The last 2 movies i have rented from iTunes and some of the movies I have bought will not play sound. I have checked all audio setting and downloaded the new version of iTunes and Quick Time. Why is this happening?? What do I do!

no nothing! and now it's started asking me all the time for my password to authorize the computer for itunes, but I'm already authorized and after I enter the password, a message pops up that says something about "you are already registered" and ugh! no clue!

  • No sound from rented movies....WHY???

Purchased Apple Tv and set up just fine. Watched stuff from You tube no problem, watched movie previews no problem, watched trailers no problem, listened to music no problem, rented two movies for movie night with family and guess what...a problem. Seems that when you pay for a rental and it downloads through the Apple TV product you don't get the audio that should be with the movie...guess you have to pay extra for that?
Is this just another one of those great bad idea's that should have been figured out beforehand or am I just an unlucky SOB?

Firstly if you've not tried, unplug AppleTV2 and restart it - sometimes cure spurious faults.
Secondly try turning off Dolby Digital in audio Settings on AppleTV2 in case TV can't handle that.

  • No sound from rented movie

I downloaded a movie from itunes and do not have any sound

Is the movie still buffering? you may have a slow internet connection. Music files require far less bandwidth than movies.

  • Rented Movie Video and Sound out of sync

I love renting movies from ITunes , but there is this ongoing issue with video and sound syncronisation. I have Window 7 64bit with i7 processor and the latest version of Itunes. I have gone through the settings of altering the sound properties on Quicktime player and Windows to 16bit 44khz which had improved it alot.
But when watching a film half way through the sound appears to overtake the video. Would this be a setting on the latency currently set to 33.000ms and should increasing this cure the problem?
I'll try altering the settings on one more film , if that doesn't work then ITunes for me is history.

Does it behave the same way when you watch the video on your computer? What you observed is not that uncommon since some formats/recorders tend to loose sync between the video and audio.

  • Rented movies come without sound

    Rented movies come without sound
I rented my first movie via Apple TV some weeks ago without problems.
Now I rented few days ago a very old movie, original from '61 and yesterday
another one, which just came out. Both movies I can only "see", not hear,
there's no sound. What is wrong here??!!! It's quite frustrating, paying money for
a movie that comes without sound.
I'd be much happy if anybody would give me an idea what to do.

    Unplug AppleTV and try again.
If no luck factory restore it by connecting to computer using a microUSB cable alone and running iTunes.
You may need to contact iTunes Store support to try to request a refund.

No sound through TV over HDMI? Try setting Dolby Digital to Auto or Off in Settings.

  • Have downloaded movies in the past and no problems. Now I have bought concerts and rent movies and after 45 minutes I lose sound and have updated quicktimeplayer and itunes is updated as per answer when reported to apple. Help.

First time I have used this system but as per sentences above I cannot watch a rented movie or live concert that I have bought without restarting my pc?
Before I never had this problem and starting to get frustrated with Itunes but no problems with music.

  • Specific Apple TV Setup? Rented Movies NO SOUND

    Hi Everyone,
I wonder if there this anyone out here who's Apple TV is setup this way:
Apple TV >> HDMI Cable(AV) >> HDTV >> (Audio) Digital Optical Cable >> Home Theatre
I just got my Apple TV for 2 weeks now and set it up the way that is stated above. I have expected that the TV will display the picture of course and stream the audio out through the optical output to my home theatre's digital audio in via the optical cable. The setup works fine navigation through the menus, playing music and watching movie previews except for one BIG thing - it doesn't work when watching a rented movie. There is video on the TV but the audio isn't just going through the Apple TV to the TV and finally to my home theatre.
So I have tried this setup below:
                    >> HDMI Cable(V)>> HDTV
    Apple TV
                   >> Optical Cable(A)>>Home Theatre
And it works on everything, especially the one that I am having issues with, watching a rented movie. Now I can forget it and keep the setup this way. But I am concerned about having to buy a splitter and another 2 optical cables just to connect other TV audio output to my home theatre which only has 1 digital audio in.(which most if not all systems do).
Now I am confused if there a way to keep my previous setup and make everything work.
Anyone who went through the same trouble? Or knows more? I'd be glad to hear your advice.
    Thank you in advance!

I can only think that there may be some setting on the TV that is causing the problem or only Dolby Digital which originates from the TV itself is passed through the optical out.
On the matter of connecting the Apple TV to the receiver, most set ups would have all your devices connected to the receiver by HDMI and then the receiver would pass the video through HDMI to the TV.

  • HT204370 Can i watch a rented movie in QuickTime?

If I watch a movie in itunes it is choppy.  I recently purchased a movie through itunes and watched it in QuickTime, happy days.  I have rented a movie through itunes and when I try and play it through QuickTime I just get a grey screen and no sound.
In the apple 'Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for purchased movies' it asks 'Can I watch the movie in QuickTime Player?', for which the answer is 'yes'.
There is no such question in the rented movies FAQs.  Is this because the answer is 'no' and apple would rather not tell anyone?
I have QuickTime Pro and it is registered.

I assume you are using the Apple TV 1 (silver/grey).
The rental needs to be transferred to the Apple TV. It sounds as though you have paired a secondary (streaming only) library only and you need a primary library to transfer content.

  • Why does Itunes no longer plays Trailers or bought/rent Movies ?

    Hi all,
since yesterday, I have the problem that I can't play neither rent movies nor trailers anymore. I get into the player window and I can see all controls, but there is no video or sound playback. With some videos the time counter starts, with some videos it doesn't. I can always open the chapter list and see images of the movie there, but there is no way to see the video itself.
This worked fine until a couple of days ago. The only change I can remember is having updated to iTunes 10.6.1.7. I am not aware of any changes in the meantime.
During the process of debugging this, I have already updated Display Drivers, iTunes, QuickTime, logged out and into the iTunes store and de- and reauthorized my computer. As well as experiemnted with options in the QuickTime player such as Direct3D support. (btw: does anybody know if iTunes is using the QuickTime player at all or is there an internal player that is independent?).
    Any ideas?
    My system:
Windows Vista 64bit, all updates installed
NVidia Graphics Adaptor set to 1920*1080 resolution
    iTunes 10.6.1.7
    Thanks

At least guys, can you answer that one?
-> does anybody know if iTunes is using the QuickTime player at all or is there an internal player that is independent?).
Seems that the "internal" player is totally independent from Quicktime Player installed, cause you can run itunes without have quicktime installed. And changing settings in Quicktimeplayer itself seems not to have effect on itunes player..
is that correct?  Any hints on that ?

  • Transfer Rented Movies from Apple TV V2 to Computer?!?!

I rented some movies on my Apple TV. Can I transfer them to my Mac that the Apple TV is synced with? I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. I know that I can transfer rented movies from the Mac to the Apple TV, but the other way???
    Please someone let me know.
    -Christian

If you think you might need to watch your movie on anything other then Apple TV, rent it form iTunes on your computer. Once it is on your computer you can move it to an iPod, iPhone, and even Apple TV 2.0.
Under this system the only thing you can't do is have an HD rented movie on your computer. iPods and iPhones can't play that anyway. Yes, I think media giants sleep safer when HD movies are not on peoples "corruptible" computers and safe and sound on an "appliance".
The only way to make this any easier would be to allow SD rentals to transfer back to a computer but not HD. I think that would just add another layer of confusion.

  • ITunes rented movie not outputting Dolby Digital 5.1 audio

The problem with the downloaded movie (Real Steel HD) is
that the Dolby Digital 5.1 (English) audio is not being putput. The movie is only playing back in
"stereo" mode. When playing back on iTunes there are four audio tracks
    to choose from:
    1. English 1 (This plays stereo)
    2. English 2 (NO SOUND) - I believe this should be the Dolby Digital track
    3. French (This plays stereo)
    4. Spanish (This plays stereo)
Neither of the two English tracks is outputting Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.
I have confirmed that my PC is capable of up to 7.1 surround sound and
my A/V receiver is capable of even more. I have updated both the ATI
Radeon 4500 driver and the Realtek drivers. I have tested and
confirmed that my PC is capable of  outputting sound to all 5 of my
speakers and my subwoofer, HOWEVER when playing back the rented movie
in iTunes the maximum audio is stereo. I have the latest version of
iTunes installed, so that shouldn't be the problem.
I have also purchased another movie advertised as Dolby Digital 5.1
audio (The Bourne Supremecy HD) but I am afraid to begin my 24-hour
viewing period because of these audio problems being unresolved.
My question is: Are there known issues of movies purchased on iTunes
and played back on a Windows 7 PC not playing the Dolby Digital
tracks? If so, is there a fix for this via an iTunes settings change
    or a Windows update patch?
From the four audio tracks that I listed above, I believe track 2 is
the Dolby Digital track, yet there is NO SOUND when that track is
    selected.
Please help, as this is pretty frustrating when your movie night is ruined for the family especially after you've paid for and waited for the movie to download.

I managed to get my DD tracks working.
First had to update itunes to the latest version (10.7.0.21) to get rid of the out of sync sound problem
Then updated the realtek driver. There was an update directly in the realtek website (mine is the HD Audio): http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24& Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
After all that. I tunes wasn't allowing anymore to select the Doubly Digital 5.1 tracks (an improvement).
Then went to the windows properties for the realtek optical output and checked both options to allow application exclusive access and to have priority (http://dailykermit.wordpress.com/2009/09/11/windows-7-exclusive-device-control/)
After all this, I was able to enjoy my rental
