NoClassDefFoundError question

I am getting a NoClassDefFoundError when my web app is trying to load a listener specified in my web.xml file. However, I cannot seem to figure out why this is occurring because my classpaths seem to be configured correctly. At least I thought so:
I am using RAD v7.0 as my IDE, app is running on WAS 6.0.
Under Windows > Preferences > Java > Build Path > Classpath Variables, I have the following defined as an external folder that contains utilsrc.jar, log4j-1.2.9.jar, and log4jutil.jar.
MyBase - c:/workspaces/externals
Then, in the actual classpath of my web project, I have the following:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<classpath>
     <classpathentry kind="src" path="JavaSource"/>
     <classpathentry kind="var" path="MyBase/utilsrc.jar" sourcepath="/MyBase"/>
     <classpathentry kind="var" path="MyBase/log4j-1.2.9.jar"/>
     <classpathentry kind="var" path="MyBase/log4jutil.jar"/>
     <classpathentry kind="src" path="/CodeCommon"/>
     <classpathentry kind="con" path="com.ibm.wtp.server.java.core.container/com.ibm.ws.ast.st.runtime.core.runtimeTarget.v60/was.base.v6"/>
     <classpathentry kind="var" path="JUNIT_HOME/junit.jar" sourcepath="ECLIPSE_HOME/plugins/org.eclipse.jdt.source_3.0.0/src/org.junit_3.8.1/junitsrc.zip"/>
     <classpathentry kind="con" path="org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.internal.web.container"/>
     <classpathentry kind="con" path="org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.internal.module.container"/>
     <classpathentry kind="con" path="org.eclipse.jdt.launching.JRE_CONTAINER/org.eclipse.jdt.internal.debug.ui.launcher.StandardVMType/WebSphere v6 JRE"/>
     <classpathentry kind="con" path="org.eclipse.jst.server.core.container/com.ibm.ws.ast.st.runtime.runtimeTarget.v60/was.base.v6"/>
     <classpathentry kind="output" path="WebContent/WEB-INF/classes"/>
</classpath>Am I missing something?

OK, obviously I'm just completely doing this wrong. Where is the runtime classpath defined?Each servlet container may define its own classloading scheme, so check the documentation for your app server for classes and libraries that will be shared across web apps. However, the classes in the WEB-INF/classes directory of the web application as well as JAR files in the WEB-INF/lib directory will be loaded by convention.

  • Question about EJB deployment (NoClassDefFoundError)

    I got a "NoClassDefFoundError" when I bring up my servlet which tries
    to use a session bean. Can anyone tell me the correct way to deploy
    EJB in web logic 6.1?
    My case is:
    I have a session bean "examples.mysession" packaged in examples.jar
    and
    stored in "<wl dir>/config/mydomain/applications".
    In addition, I create an application "testapp" with a number of jsp &
    servlets.
    ("<wl dir>/config/mydomain/applications/testapp")
    The servlets' classes are stored in
    "<wl dir>/config/mydomain/applications/testapp/WEB-INF/classes/examples/myservlet.class"
    In the servlet, I am trying to use the mysession bean by calling
    "create()" on mysession's home object. This is where I got the

  • Oracle Application Server Release 2 (10.1.2) Deployment Notes question

    Hi!
    I'm following the Oracle Application Server Release 2 (10.1.2) Deployment Notes (http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/deployment_topics006.htm) for deploying an application, built in Jdeveloper 10.1.3 to AS 10.1.2. I have a question about Configuring JDeveloper to Generate Configuration Files That Are J2EE 1.3-Compliant. Do I need all the files in table 34-3? (http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B25947_01/deployment_topics006.htm#CIHHBJAI)
    I already have some of these files. Can I change the version of existing files or do I need new ones? How can I change the version of existing files?
    Here are the headers of some of these files:
    web.xml: (Here I probably just change version="2.4" to version="2.3")
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1250'?>
    <web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
             xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd"
             version="2.4" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee">
    orion-application.xml: (Is version="10.0" the version I need to change to "1.2"?)
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <orion-application xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
                       xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.oracle.com/technology/oracleas/schema http://xmlns.oracle.com/oracleas/schema/orion-application-10_0.xsd"
                       version="10.0"
                       xmlns="http://www.oracle.com/technology/oracleas/schema">
    data-sources.xml.xml: (This file has only XML version, I don't believe this is the version I need to change)
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1250'?>I only have these three files from the table in my application. Do I need application.xml and oc4j-connectors.xml too?
    Thank you in advance!

  • How does the Java card simulator work? and other misc questions

    First, I have a class inherited from Applet. Okay, I did that.
    How do I convert this class to a CAP file? I mean I have a class file which is compiled by javac, do I use this file to convert into a CAP file? What is an AID? Do I make up this AID?
    In this .scr file (APDU Script), I understand the first 4 bytes, it means to create an Applet, but what about the rest? I know there are some intermixes of lengths and AIDs, I just can't decipher this.
    // create wallet applet
    0x80 0xB8 0x00 0x00 0x14 0x0a 0xa0 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x62 0x3 0x1 0xc 0x6 0x1 0x08 0 0 0x05 0x01 0x02 0x03 0x04 0x05 0x7F;
    And here comes the main question?
    How does the simulator work? How do I generate the data that mimics what the card reader reads?
    Thanks

  • A Unix question: find command

    Hi all,
    Sorry for posting a Unix question here.
    In the following directory I have:
    /opt/SonicSoftware/SonicMQ/samples/TopicPubSub/DurableChat>ls
    DurableChat.class DurableChat.java Readme.txt
    However, if I try:
    /opt/SonicSoftware>find -iname DurableChat.class
    The path can not be found, it just gives me the prompt back; I don't know what the reason is. Any idea?

    I'm just wondering can the symbolic link be the
    reason that class file can not be found (I guess, not
    though, b/c other classes can be found):What do you mean "not found"?
    Do you mean why the find command isn't finding it? Yes, that's why. But now that you know, you can use -follow.
    Or do you mean the VM is unable to find the class at runtime? I'm almost certain the classloader can follow symbolic links in the classpath, so I don't think that's the problem.
    >
    /opt/SonicSoftware/SonicMQ/samples/TopicPubSub/Chat>..
    /../SonicMQ.sh DurableChat -u AlwaysUp
    Exception in thread "main"
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: DurableChat
    Should I change the path that it won't be symbolic
    anymore?Try it and see if it fixes it. I'd be surprised, but you never know. If making it not a link fixes it, then maybe that's what you have to do. If it doesn't fix it, then you know you have to look somewhere else.

  • NoClassDefFoundError only on Linux

    I am using WebLogic Server 8.1 SP4 on Windows and Linux. Both were installed as Production servers using JRocket.
    I have an MDB that I have created that has the following line:
    BaseEvent event = EventFactory.createBaseEvent("event data");
    EventFactory is used to create a number of different event objects. When building the MDB, I only put the EventFactory class and BaseEvent class in the jar file. I did not include other events that EventFactory might return because this MDB only calls createBaseEvent.
    When I deploy and test this on Windows, it works fine. However when I deploy it on Linux I get a NoClassDefFoundError for one of the other classes that the EventFactory returns. I have tripled checked my class paths and the only event class on it is BaseEvent.
    So my question is... Which system is doing the wrong thing, Windows or Linux.
    BTW, I also wrote a small test program that does basically the same thing. I compiled all the classes and then deleted the extra class files. The program ran fine on Windows and Linux, so it makes me believe that something is configured differently in my Linux version of WebLogic.
    Any ideas?

    solved.
    This was actually an eclipse problem.
    After upgrading from 3.2 to 3.2.2 with a full rebuild the error vanished.

  • A question about compatiblilty of JDBC

    Hi, there,
    I have a question about JDBC 3.0 in JDK1.4.1.
    We build a .jar using JDK1.4.1 and this .jar file
    provides JDBC 3.0 interface.
    I then tried to call the interface under JDK1.3.1
    but it keeps asking me about the getParameterMetaData()
    in PreparedStatement.
    (The error message like this:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: java/sql/ParameterMetaData dbmaker.sql.JdbcOdbcConnection.prepareStatement(JdbcOdbcConnection.java:257)
    I did implement the getParameterMetaData() method,
    but I didn't call this method in my testing program.
    It's quite strange since when JDK1.2 was release,
    we implemented the getBlob() method in
    ResultSet class and there's no problem when we
    use JDK1.1 run time to call this ResultSet object.
    Could any one tell me why? Is this caused by a
    compatibility problem between JDK1.4 and the
    older versions of JDK?

    Hi, there,
    Let me outline the condition by examples so that maybe you can help me. PLEASE! Could somebody tell us what's wrong?
    - CASE 1:
    In JDK1.2, we implemented a new method getBlob which returns the type of Blob (this is done according to JDBC 2.0 specification.) in ResultSet class. We can use the .jar compiled by jdk1.2 in jdk1.1 environment.
    e.g. We make a xyz.jar by jdk1.2 and the xyz.jar includes new method getBlob in ReaultSet class. Then, one java application including ResultSet class CAN run under jdk1.1 with xyz.jar, if the method ResultSet.getBlob() is not called.
    - CASE 2:
    BUT, the following case which is the same as in the above condition will fail in jdk1.3 environment.
    In JDK 1.4, we implemented a new method getParameterMetaData() which returns the type of ParameterMetaData. (BTW, this is done according to JDBC 3.0 specification.) in PreparedStatement class. We CANNOT use the .jar compiled by jdk1.4 in jdk1.3 environment.
    e.g. We make a ttt.jar by jdk1.4 and ttt.jar includes the new method getParameterMetaData() in PreparedStatement class. Then, one java application including PreparedStatement class CANNOT be run under jdk1.3 with ttt.jar, even when the method PreparedStatement.getParameterMetaData() is not called.

  • Imported Library - NoClassDefFoundError

    Imported Library - NoClassDefFoundError
    Hi
    I created a shared library and imported it in my application using orion-application.xml
    <imported-shared-libraries>
    <import-shared-library name="amc.common" max-version="1.0"></import-shared-library>
    </imported-shared-libraries>
    When I run the application I get NoClassDefFoundError when accessing a class in the Shared library.
    I Know the Jar is Ok as the application works fine when I build the .jar into WEB-INF/lib
    When I check ClassLoader using system Mbean, I can see that the shared library is imported by my Web Application. So why it is failing to find the class ?
    What else need to be done in the application to load the classes that are in the shared library ?
    Aimey

    Hi,
    there is nothing specific that needs to be done on an application side. However, my best advise is to ask this question on the OC4J forum as I am not an expert in share libraries and known issues with it

  • JAXB question

    DB Structure
    Parent Table - Incident --> Child Table - IncidentCharges --> Child Table of IncidentCharges --> IncidentChargeWeapons
    Container
    Oracle Containers for JAVA(OC4J)
    We have a schema (Incident.xsd) which comprises of our entire database structure. We unmarshalled the schema using JAXB to Java classes and interfaces .
    It created 2 .java classes and 2 .java interfaces for each high level tag . for eg for our Incident tag it created a Incident interface and a IncidentType Interface
    and also it created 2 classes IncidentImpl and IncidentTypeImpl . The IncidentTypeImpl has all the get and set properties we require eg. getIncidentType,
    setIncidentType,getIncidentNumber,setIncidentNumber,getOccuranceDate,setOccuranceDate etc.
    Our objective is to create a JSP page which has form fields to enter data which use these JAXB generated classes get and set properties. In other words
    we want to bind the JSP form fields to these JAXB generated classes. And once these JAXB objects are populated we want to marshal it and create a XML file with the data from those JAXB . Our database would then consume the generated XML. We tried creating a simple incident form with just 3 fields IncidentType,Occurance date and Incident Number and tried to bind these fields with the properties from IncidentTypeImpl classes using the <jsp:usebean> tag . When we deployed it to our container and tried to load the Incident.jsp page , it would not load up . Only when we cleared all the bindings it loaded up .
    Then we tried another workaround (just to get it working. Not a preferred approach) . We created another simple JAVA bean(not JAXB generated beans) which has set and get properties for the form fields and bound the form fields to it.
    On submitting the JSP page we called a servlet which takes data from our created bean and transfers it to the JAXB generated IncidentTypeImpl bean. When we deployed this the jsp page loads up and also our bean is filled with data . But the servlet bombs with this error below.

    We have 2 questions .
    1. Can a JSP page be bound directly to this JAXB generated bean in pretty much the same way as we bind it to our own bean ? (We would like to do this so that we dont have to create duplicate classes which mirror the JAXB generated classes.)
    2. Is there something special we have to do to deploy this application to recognize the JAXB classes. Do we have to deploy some jar file for it to recognize those classes ?

    Nevermind, I have then answer to my question - use this flag - use-runtime <pkg> : suppress the generation of the impl.runtime package and simply

    I'm new to Java but managed write the JSP's I needed and they have been working beautifully. Then today, out of nowhere, I get the following in the log:

The jar for org/apache/commons/httpclient/HttpClient is in my web_inf/lib dir as it always has been. It wouldn't have worked on restart if it wasn't.
    So, the question is... is there some bug in the Tomcat and Java combination I've got that caused this? If not, then what happened? Should I up the logging level to warnings? Should I move the jars I'm using into the tomcat lib dir? Any help would be appreciated by this early java learner.
    Thanks,
    Mac

    Could this be a situation where load played a factor? Just another thought I had...

  • NoClassDefFoundError: weblogic/management/configuration/KernelDebugMBean

    NoClassDefFoundError: weblogic/management/configuration/KernelDebugMBean : weblogic/management/configuration/DebugMBean
    I'm getting this error when trying to run a test of a web service developed with Axis outside of WLP.
    weblogic.jar is in my classpath, and contains that class. So, I suspect there is some other class that might be missing. I've tried adding every .jar I can find from WLP to my classpath to no avail.

    Hi Tim,
    Pls always mention WLP version for a question.
    Looks like there has been a change in the class "KernelDebugMBean" between WLP 9.2 and WLP 10.0
    9.2: public interface KernelDebugMBean extends weblogic.management.configuration.DebugMBean
    "http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs92/javadocs_mhome/index.html"
    10.0
    public interface KernelDebugMBean
    "http://edocs.beasys.co.jp/e-docs/wls/docs100/javadocs_mhome/index.html?weblogic/management/configuration/KernelDebugMBean.html"
    Not really sure. Something is messy about DebugMBean superclass.
    Might a BEA support question
    Thanks
    Vishnu

    Hello People,
    I am aware that this topic has been raised before. I have browsed through all the postings of this particular question, but i have not found the solution.
    While compilign i get no errors but this is what i get when i run the java program.
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Exception in thread "main"

    SYSTEM VARIABLES
    Variable - classpath
    Value - C:\Program Files\TextPad 4I am concerned that the classpath in the autoexec.bat is different from what you posted under System variables. What version of Windows are you running? autoexec.bat is used by 98. Others use the system variables. The classpath you show for autoexec.bat looks OK but the classpath you show for system variables looks wrong. It should be the same as what you show for autoexec.bat You do not need the sdk\bin directory in your classpath unless you plan to put classes there.
    The NoClassDefFound error means that the java.exe command could not find the class that you specified. You did not post the command that you entered. You may have specified the class wrong. Otherwise, it is probably a classpath problem.

  • V basic newbie question

    hi i had decided this weekend to start looking at the JAVA stuff I should be a real help to me at work. However i am having a problem setting things up. i have looked at the FAQ's but they don't seem to answer my question which is HOW do I set my computer up?
    I'm running win98 java 1.4.3
    i have built the ExampleProrgram.java (the one on the tutorial) used javac to convert into it the executable/class but when i run it with java ExampleProgram i get a long list of problems to do with class loader etc.. However when i user the -classpath c:\windows\Packages i still get a error "exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ExampleProgram/java"
    I took all the suggested options when the SDK was installing ans set the path but still can't get this one sorted.
    I know it's going to be really obvious but any help would be appreciated

    When running the program don't add the file extension .java.
    The .java is only for source files not compiled yet.
    After you compile you run them by just indicating the class name
    java ExampleProgram
