Nomad Jukebox C Doesnt Boot

I have an old school Nomad Jukebox C. I got it a while ago. I went to upgrade the firmware a couple of years ago, and my power went out while it was happening. Now, when i turn it on, it freezes at the "Preparing Library" screen. I got mad at it and put it away for a while. I'd like to fix it now, so if anybody has any suggestions on what to do, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Have you tried starting in Rescue Mode and formatting the dri've?

  • Nomad Jukebox will not boot

Ok here is the deal, I ran out of memory while recording the other night no big deal it happened one other time and booted back up with no problem.
But this time I had no batteries in it so it gave me the message about it wont save playlist or something.
I went to upload the stuff I recorded on the PC and it just goes forever in the preparing library mode... I tried the diagnostic test and it just goes and goes.
I really dont want to reformat because there are some songs on there I know I will never be able to get back or record again.
    Any suggestions?

Make absolutely sure you are following the correct procedure, and following it exactly. The method for the Nomad Jukebox is different to other players.
If you can't get into Rescue Mode the player is faulty.

  • Nomad Jukebox 2 doesnt tell how long a track is anymore

I can no longer fast forward long sets and tracks anymore because when a song or set is selected, the overall time always says 00:00:00, but the timer on the left counts up like it should.
I have already tried the clean-up via the recovery mode, then rebooted it, but it still does not work.
I do NOT know anything about the reload OS, and cant find anything about that on here...will that help? And if so, how do I go about this. I read load via usb on the screen.

There's a link in the FAQ post that gives you a general breakdown of how it works, but first things first check you have the latest firmware and just upgrade if you haven't.

We Can't Afford T Just Get A Newer Model. Or We Would.

Have you tried the Rescue Mode options such as Clean Up and Format? See the sticky thread for the details.
My JB is still going strong, though it has its 2nd 20GB hard dri've in it now! Both the 6GB and the previous 20GB were still working though I sometimes got transfer errors with the first 20GB which is why I changed it again.

  • Nomad Jukebox 3 extremely slow in boot-

My Nomad Jukebox 3 (20 GB) is extremely slow in booting up.
Since I had it connected to my laptop to clean up some of the Mp3's and making a new playlist, I'm having trouble getting the jukebox to start.
Booting time is now 8 minutes! The screen is locked up at the EAX splash screen all the time during booting. (booting up from standby mode is OK, but standby mode is gone after some 5 minutes)
    What I tried yet:
    a reset
    removing the batteries
    in the rescue mode:
    Disc clean up
Reload OS (Old firmware was .32, its now reloaded with firmware version .40.06p)
    and a reboot
    All to no avail.
    I have about 3000 songs on it (2 GB's).
The only thing I have not tried yet is a reformat, would that do the job?

It did it allright!Formatted the disc and it is booting OK again!(however I'm still very curious about the remaining lifetime of the disc)
I am now loading the Jukebox with my favourites and, until now, its behaving like new (after a minor hiccup).
    Thanks for the suggestions!

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!

  • Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra Wont appear in the creative mediasource organiz

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra VS Winows Media Player - Help?

I have a 40gig Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - a computer crash a year ago resulted in a replacement by the computer company - and it came with Windows Media Player.... when I tried to run it and had already installed the Creative software/Music library - Media Player crashed my computer every time - had to uninstal...,. now - that computer is defecti've and has just been replaced again by the maker - and before I load the Creatai've Software wondered if this is what is interfering with Media Player? Does anyone know? When I buy music it looks for Windows Media Player I believe - and I can play it and transfer the music in Creative program - BUT - it no longer lists my music library as single songs but as folders - and I have to go specifically into a remote folder to try to find the downloaded music and transfer to the Nomad....
Any help is appreciated..... I'm lost!
    Thanks

The firmware update only works on a windows XP machine.
you also need to have Windows media player 0 installed
you must not have windows media player or windows media player runtime lurking in your windows XP add/remove programmes bit on the control panel.
if you do have WMP first remove it ( roll back) then re-boot, then remove windows media player runtime ( rioll back) and re-boot.
open windows media player, if it is windows media player 0 then you should be OK, if its windows media player 9 you need ot download and install windows media player 0.
Check again to make sure that windows media player and windows media player runtime are not in the add/rmove programs.
Back up everything on the player, all music, playlists and data files.
    update the firmware.
if it stalls part way, like it did for me the last time i updated a Zen Xtra ( last weekend -installing a new motherboard ) dont panic.
it will go to rescue mode, close the firmware update, the player will go to rescue mode, then re-satart the update, on the zen xtra, slect re-load OS then on the firmware update click on English. then slect re-load os on the player.
make sure that the player is fully charged, and that the mains charger is also attached.
just out of interest, when you remove the front panel on your zen xtra to get to the battery, does the headphone jack ( visable through a hole in the top right) have a blob of red paint on

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra Firmware Update Issue

My player does not get recognized after attempting to update firmware (ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe) according to website instructions.
When turned on the player displays "Firmware Problem" for a fraction of a second, then it goes into Rescue Mode v., Boot v.4, HW v0.0., 4 items in the menu ( Clean Up; 2 Format All; 3 Reload OS; 4 Reboot)
    This is my setup:

    Windows Media Format Runtime
    Windows Media Player 0
    Please advise, thanks in advance,

    Problem solved!
I did not follow the link you provided, thanks for the suggestion anyway. I read in another post that you advised to disable the device in Device Manager, although I took a different route. This is what I did after enabling Mediasource DETECTOR
. Completely uninstall Windows Media Player , revert to WMP 0, inlcuding the Runtime
    2. Reboot the PC
    2. Once rebooted connect the player to the PC
    3. right click MY COMPUTER->MANAGE->DEVICE MANAGER
    4. Under Windows Portable Devices right click NOMAD JUKEBOX ZEN XTRA, then select Update Drivers
    5. Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Creative\Jukebox 3 Drivers" to select the driver, OK all the windows
    6. Run ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe with the player connected
    7. I was prompted if I wanted to replace the Firmware with the same version (2.0.03) I said yes... within seconds the player came back to normal.
I hope that the above can help people in my same situation. The culprit seems to be WMP and all the hidden software installed with it. Freakin Microsoft!
Final question. Now that the firmware has been updated, am I safe by installing WMP ?
    Thanks!

  • Nomad jukebox zen xtra - cannot create file w message when trying totransfer fi

My 30G nomad jukebox zen xtra was working great until recently. Now when I power my player up after a day of no use, it takes 0-5 minutes to rebuild the library. When I begin to transfer files using Media source after a few transfers I get the "unable to create file" message and can no longer transfer. I have tried disk clean up and re-booting to no avail. I tried installing the new firmware and this worked for about 80 songs and then I began getting the same problems. I have completely cleaned my PC of adware and spyware and this has no effect. I love my player but am becoming a little frustrated. Would anyone have any ideas? This all started when I turned on my player one day and all of the music was gone. I re-transfereed everything back and later noticed that I had two of everything. I deleted all of the duplicates and from that point on it began to take 5 minutes to rebuild the library but I could still transfer files with no problems. One last thing, when I run disk cleanup in rescue mode, once it gets to 99% done it stalls there for about 0-5 minutes before going back to the rescue mode menu.
    scott

i experienced the same problem. until 2 weks ago it worked fine. but a visited the support site and found out that all the software was new. so i downloaded the new versions. even the new firmware with the e at the end. i was at the edge to smash my monitor when i found out that after the firmware update the sound was hearing so quiet. after rebuil os and searching 2 hour on the net for the previous firmware release, prior to E release, i solve the sound problem.
but another appeard. cannot copy files on the player. if i choose to delete them, they disappear. i turn off the zen nx, turn back on and the files were still there. practically all the copy/delete/new folder/paste function were blocked. and the same problem on WIN XP and win 2000. all this because i installed the new versions for nomad explorer, nomad mediacenter, nomad plugin for media center.
solution: uninstalled all the creative software. put the original cd in the dri've. installed all the original software. it was running perfect. so, i could operate again in the data files on the player.
so i thought it was the driver problem since the media library i could access just fine. so i kept the original driver but installed all the new software (mediasource, nomad explorer, nomad zen plugin for mediasource).
guess what? the accesing proble appeard again. i think that the better solution is to stick to the original software.
and one last find. after the E firmware adveture, i experince what other are and was praing not to happen to me. the battery is lasting much much short period. and the green light if you look carefully is fluctuating in intensity. this was not happening until i burn the new E firmware. .0.02e. now after the rebuild os and writng a firmware it displays .0.02 without the E. the sound is like before. 24 damages your ears but the battery problem stills persit. it driving me crazy.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gp prob

Well, to start off with, I loved my mp3 player. So far, I ran into problems that I could not fix. I downloaded all of the updates that were needed. My mp3 player, a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gb, suddenly would not work the same way. When the power adapter of battery are inserted, the player starts up. When they are pulled the player shuts down. One of the problems is when the player is on, it doesn't want to leave the main screen that says, "EAX". The hard dri've is not spinning, and no data is being accessed. I found on this website a page that tells users how to reset their mp3 player. For my mp3 player, it must be turned off for me to do a hard disk check, re-installation of operating system, or a format of the hard dri've...which is another problem, because I cannot turn it off. As I stated previously, the player is either on or off depending on if the battery is in or not. I am totally puzzeled. I cannot connect the player to the computer because of this problem. So either I have a new 60gb laptop hard dri've, or I figure out a way to get this to work. I haven't been able to find any threads like this or any users experiencing these problems.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    -Matt

Ok... I think I figured it out. I finally got into the recovery mode. I let the battery sit out of the mp3 player for a while, hoping that there is a capacitor that would run out of power. I put the battery back in and got into recovery mode. I ran disk clean up. Nothing changed. I had the same problem I first started off with. So I took the battery out again for an hour. Came back, and got back into recovery mode. I reinstalled the OS. Everything seems to be working fine.
I hope that anyone having a similar problem with this mp3 player can keep this in the back of their mind if they cannot get into recovery mode due to a boot up and shut down problem.

  • Touch vs. Nomad Jukebox (yes, the ORIGIN

I am getting antsy and bored waiting for the Touch firmware to be released. I was looking for a game and saw my good ol' reliable blue nomad jukebox sitting on the shelf. I gave it good hug. For over fi've years that CD-player sized original HDD based MP3 player has gone everywhere with me. Until a few weeks ago when i bought a Zen Touch.
I scoured the net, comparing the Zens to iPods to Rios to Ri'vers. In the end, my personal experience (happy ) with creative made me choose the Touch in the end.
Everyone likes to compare the Touch to the iPod, calling it the "iPod killer." Well let me tell you something, oh my brothers, that overweight blue monster with its 6 hours of battery life is the Touch killer. Hell with why the Touch is better then the iPod, lemme tell you why the Nomad Jukebox (C, or DAP as you care to call it) is better than the Touch:
My current "listening on a daily basis" music library come in at about 3.5GB. That's music i like to hear every day. That's plenty to fit on a Jukebox, and obviously on a Touch as well</LI>
I'm out on a research farm for about 5-7 hours a day. Both the 6hr Jukebox and the 24hr Touch battery deli'ver.</LI>
The Jukebox has fully functional EAX settings, the Touch doesn't</LI>
With a set of surround headphones, i can have 4 channel surround on the Jukebox. Stereo only on the touch.</LI>
The Jukebox has a three band EQ with programmable crossover frequency. The touch has built in EQ and a faulty programable one.</LI>
The Jukebox has a tree structured queue list, and individual items can be removed or added. Nothing like that on the touch</LI>
Pushing UP/DOWN simultaneously allows quick scrolling, and there's a page up/page down function on the Jukebox - the lists also wrap so you can go from top to bottom easily. Scroll, wait, wait, and wait on the Touch. If you're at the bottom of a big playlist... well, forget it.</LI>
Play mode available directly from Current Track screen.</LI>
All i need is a microphone to record lectures on the Jukebox. The touch requires an external part to do that.</LI>
I choose what comes up when the jukebox starts, and what volume. That way i don't scream bloody murder going from my car to my headphones.</LI>
Tracks, artists, and albums starting with 'the' have 'the' ignored on the Jukebox. The Clarks is filed between Chumbawumba and Coldplay on the JB.</LI>
Sleep and wakeup timers on the Jukebox.</LI>
Hardware settings on the Jukebox let me choose between it running like a Beetle Diesel, getting 56 mpg, or a Ferrari Testerozza, and getting single digit mileage.</LI>
No "push me to play everything and screw up your playlist" button on the Jukebox.</LI>
What advantages does the Touch have over my Jukebox?
Higher SNR (98 vs 96 i think, cant find Jukebox spec)</LI>
    Smaller</LI>
    Better battery life</LI>
    Promise of better firmware</LI>
I'm an audiophile-geeky-gadget guy. I own 99.98% the MP3's i have on my PC. NapsterToGo, Y!MU, amongst others are appealing to me, as i refuse to 'stick it to the man' by illegally pirating music. You say only the record industry is getting screwed over - don't forget the musicians have a paycheck too. Hoping for support, just like we got support when DRM first came to be for our JB's, our Zen's and such, i loyally bought your Touch. I even remember the combo beta/stable firmwares.
When a product that you made over fi've years ago has more features, functions, and capabilites than something you've released recently - that's quite a tradgedy.
I remember a bus ride sophmore year in HS, my first MP3 player. The night before i spent hours ripping the songs to the player until 5am. It was cool, people were amazed, i sold them on this "thing" that held every song that they owned. It was both 337 and Chic.
Now people see the Touch and ask, "is that the new iPod?"
I found that sales is like a marriage. You need a first impression, you need your customer to fall in love with the product, and you need to keep them interested as long as possible. Well, after fi've years... i want a divorce. I won't buy an iPod - Apple will lose share because of their control-freak nature on their products. But i won't be buying Creative products anytime soon, or even again.
This message was a bit of humor to begin with - i started fiddling with my JB this evening. Then it got me to thinking, what happened to the creative that used to post new drivers/firmwares/updates every week or so? Where'd they go?
Where's that old Creative Labs that was just that... Creative?
EDIT: I thought you might like to know that the FW on the JB is 4.0/2.98beta... the last dual boot beta creative put out. Still available on the Nomadness.net site

When i first got my JB, it had battery life comprable to an iPod, about 2 hours. With the ability in later firmwares to tweak HD settings, i could extend it to about 6 with minor inconviences like load time and some gapping.
It depends on the files though. With 28kbit/s MP3s you would get about 4 hours, maybe more with higher capacity batteries.
At the time, the only other portable audio was CD, and think of how many people still have and use CD players. True it was a projectile weapon...
Actually I liked that its form factor was similar to a CD player. It meant getting cases was easy, although I went for the skin case.
And i liked the NiMH batteries, they could be used in anything, and they lasted much, much longer than alkaline. You know why the JB says "Use only Creative NiMH?" One, so you didn't recharge alkaline cells; two, alkaline cells ran the player for <EM>maybe</EM> and hour and a half, to
    ps.
They were certainly worried about using the wrong batteries in it, although of course any NiMH batteries, ideally high capacity, work.
Oh, and i booted the JB and Touch (cold boot)... took about the same amount of time. Touch was a 'touch' faster.
Not if you add content to the NJB though. Every time you change content it has to rebuild the library.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra PLEASE HE

My player was locked on the EAX screen, and I figured out how to get to the rescue mode, and I clicked "Clean Up" and then pressed the check, and then it went back to the rescue mode screen and nothing's happening. Where do I go from here? What does the "Reboot" button do? How can I get it to work again without loosing all of my files?
Please help me!Message Edited by refeik on 07-4-2005 02:34 AM

is this the first time this has happened?
If it is, then the only way i know how to fix it is keep pressing the reset button with a paper clip. If that doesnt work, a worst-comes-to-worst solution is to bang your player hard against a desk, this can help because, in your situation, your Hard Dri've may be stuck, hitting it may help get loose and working again.
I used to have a Nomad Jukebox like you, and that worked twice for me, the last time it got stuck, it never worked again.

  • Nomad Jukebox 3 scroll wheel prob

The scroll wheel on my Jukebox is buggered up. I put some lubricant on it from the outside (did not try and pry the machine open) and that worked for a little while. Tried the same thing again - no luck. Any instructions and/or suggestions to remedy this?

I've owned 3 nomad jukebox 3s over the past 4 years and of those three, two of them have developed the problem of having an erratic scroll wheel. Today I used radio shack switch cleaner/lubricant and it cleared up the problem with out a trace of skipping up or down. I couldn't be happier.
I did however have to open up the jukebox. there are four screws under the rubber feet and one more screw between the two battery slots. the face comes off rather easely. the lube that i bought came with a straw atachment which i recomend for controling the placment of the fluid. I sprayed a very concervati've amound of lube into the small vally that surrounds the inside of the wheel. i would turn it about /3 of a full rotation and spray a little more and then repeat. Then I rapidly turned the scroll wheel over and over till till you couldn't see much of the lube in the vally. After putting the jukebox back together and booting it up the problem seems to be compleatly fixed! Thank god, it is my favorite MP3 player and is no longer available at anywhere brand new. I hope this little mini-faq helps anyone with this problem, Aaron.

It's for more advanced users, so not everyone is familiar with it.
In Win XP, go to Control Panel > System, Hardware tab, Device Manager button.
Also when i try do install the driver it says "please reconnect your player"
Yep, once the driver's installed it's telling you to reconnect the player for it to take effect.
