Non OBIEE Publisher reports and dashboards

I have developed several Publisher reports that source data from direct SQL queries against an Oracle DB (They're not star schema reports that are appropriate for OBIEE). The reports are parameterized and direct SQL requests are used to populate the lists of values for the parameters. My task is to make them available on a dashboard.
I have a report attached to a dashboard but I cannot figure out how to prompt for the parameters in the dashboard. Everything I've read about dashboard prompts and presentation variables assumes the report is sourced by OBIEE.
Is there a way to do this?

You have to create parameter in reports and as well create prompt in dashboard with same name.
With this link, the values will be passed into report parameter.
Use that parameter in report to filter

  • Inserting a link to BI Publisher report and passing the dashboard prompts

I have an answers dashboard where there are various prompts (say P1, P2, P3, P4  -all these are date prompts )and various  reports.
These Prompts are stored as Presentation variable say var1, var2, var3, var4.
I need to insert a Link on this page to a BI Publisher Report.  BI Publisher report also has some prompts say D1, D2, D3 , D4, D5, D6
The link should take the values from the prompts of this page and open the BI Publisher report with D1= value of Prompt P1,
D2= value of prompt P2, D3= value of Prompt P3, and D4= value of Prompt P4.
I was easily able to use an action link -> "Navigate to Web Page" option.  I gave the URL for this BI Publisher report and clicking on that link takes me to the report.
But I am still figuring out out to send the values of the prompts.
The BI Publisher Report is :
    - built from an RTF template.
    - uses a SQL Query with Bind variables to get the value of its prompts D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6.
    - Suppose D1 is bind variable :date1, D2 is bind variable :date2, D3 is bind variable :date3 and D4 is bind variable :dat4.
So my first try was to append the value of bind variable to the URL
    https://xxname.server.com/analytics/saw.dll?bipublisherEntry&Action=open&itemType=.xdo&bipPath=%2FSurvey%2FPhoneCount%20Record.xdo&path=%2Fshared%2FSurvey%2FPhoneCount%20Record.xdo.xdo&date1=var1
Can someone suggest the steps I need to take to make this work.
    Thanks

Hi, I am facing the same issue (OBIEE 11g version0
Please let me know if you found any solution or workaround for this?
    Thanks!!

i have seen the below blood by Dev,
he have't give more details about the solution , can any one help ? thanks inAdvance

    Hi Guys,
I am sure that a WIDTH tag has to be added in some +.css+ file but I am not sure which one. I have OBIEE 11.1.1.7.0 (Simple Install)
I came accross two very informative url's.
URL 1 > This post tells about customizing the prompt.
    http://obiee10grevisited.blogspot.in/2012/02/customizing-dashboard-prompts.html
URL 2> This post describes how to edit the look and feel of the Subject Area container.
    http://obiee1000.blogspot.in/2012/03/customize-subject-area-container-obiee.html
In a similar way, I feel that the section or column (Dashboard items) can be customized i.e. we can fixed the width, height, border, color etc etc...
I would really appreciate any suggestions/advice in this regards.
    Thanks
    Dev

  • The best practice for creating reports and dashboard

    Hello guys
I am trying to put together a list of best practice on how to create reports and dashboards using OBIEE presentation service. I know a lot of those dos and donts are just corporate words that don't apply consistantly in real world environment, but still I'd like to know if Oracle has any officially defined best practice or not.
the only best practice I can think of when it comes to building reports and dashboards is:
Each subject area should contain only one star schema that holds data for a specific business information
    Is there anything else?
    Please advice
    Thanks

Read this book to understand what a Dashboard is, what it should do and look like to be used by the end users. Very enlightentning.
Information Dashboard Design: The Effective Visual Communication of Data by Stephen Few (There are a couple of other books by Stephen and although I haven't read them yet, I anticipate them to be equally helpful.
This book was also helpful to me:

  • How i can ristrict my BI Publisher report in Dashboards.

    Dear All,
How i can ristrict my BI Publisher report in Dashboards.
I have different branches in my report .
I have to send my report split by branches and have to give security to that branch user.
Is it posible in BIP or i have to do in Data Base Level.
I need more information on dashboards
    Regards
    Subbu..

    Hi Subbu,
Apology for delay in reading your post.
Your needs and their solution are,
'split by branches ' - use bursting capability of BI Publisher
'have to give security to that branch user' - make out the report in specific folder and dashboard in BI Dashboard. Then give role based and grouped access to users to this Dashboard. For this navigate in BI Application to Settings > Admin > Manage Presentation Catalog. here you can setup dashboard specific security.
    Cheers

  • Where are the canned reports and dashboards?

I assume I'm missing something obvious here. I'm walking through the installation guide for Informatica users, and that all seems to be working out. I've also done the configuration of the OBIEE repository and loaded that in, so I see the metadata and all the tables/joins etc. But I thought there were canned reports and dashboards included -- where are they? I don't see them mentioned in the documentation and figure there should be a more obvious way to find them than looking at all the directories in the installation...
So... can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

    Hi
The canned reports /dashboards are in the catalog. on the machine where you installed BI application, OracleBIData\web\catalog
you will find EnterpriseBusinessAnalytics.zip, then unzip this file and update the instanceconfig.xml and restart the presentation services.
    thx

  • Reports and Dashboards: Saving Structure

    Hello,
We are a very large organization preparing to launch OBIEE to our users.
Going forward, I was wondering if anyone had any advice for the structure of saving reports and dashboards?

    Nagireddy,
Thank you, but I have made my question to general.
What I am actually referring to is the simple naming and structure of subfolders within, say, shared folders.
We will have hundreds of differrent analysis and dashboards saved to shared folders.
What I am really looking for is any advice from someone who has been saving a lot of content, and could possibly pass along a few do's or don't on the matter.
The thought at the moment would be to save content in subfolders of the module by category.
    -Shared Folders:
         +Procument
         +HCM
         -FSCM:
              +Employee Expenses
              +AP Transactions
              +GL Balance Sheer
              +GL Budget and Expenses
              +GL Detail Transactions
Any ideas on how to keep reports and dashboards more organized would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Lance

  • Version Controller for Oracle BI EE Reports and Dashboard

    Hi,
Is there any way to control Version in Oracle BI EE Reports and Dashboards which are created by different developers and modified as per time and as per requirements.
So that we can track that on perticular day this developer did some changes etc.

    Hi,
This is a very good feature that should be there. However, it's currently non-existent. Existing usage tracking can be used to identify bottlenecks and improve performance as well as show who has accessed what. Still, at present time, it's not possible to have developer's tracking. I hope this is a helpful answer.

  • Migration of Anwers  reports and Dashboard to different Machine

We are at very Inital level of development have created Repositories, Answers Reports and Dashboard on dev machine. Now i want to migrate to another box. So what are the files we will migrate. Please guide.

This one is based on TECHNICAL NOTE 369:
OBIEE: Migration from development to production environment.
    DEVELOPMENT SERVER:
    1. Stop Oracle BI Services
    2. Take backups of the most recent development files (for recovery purposes):
    a)Repository:           \OracleBI\server\Repository\*
    b)Presentation Catalog:\OracleBIData\web\catalog\*
    c)NQSConfig.ini:          \OracleBI\server\Config\NQSConfig.ini
    3. If any Software registry strings were modified or added, export them.
    4. Take backups of any customized GIF, CSS, GSP, XSL, and XML files from
                        \OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res
                        \OracleBI\web\app\res\
for postinstallation replacement of like production files.
    PRODUCTION SERVER:
    5. Copy any customized folder/file structures especially those of step 2 and 4.
    6. Define necessary back-end database ODBC DSNs and/or native drivers required per repository Connection Pool(s) data source names definitions.
    7. If created, import the saved development registry export.
    8. Verify BI Server ODBC settings: There is an ‘Analytics Web’ ODBC System-DSN with the driver 'Oracle BI Server' installed on the Presentation Server box.
    9. Verify Presentation Catalog Path: OracleBIData\web\config\instanceconfig.xml
    10. Start Oracle BI Services
    11. Verify Dashboard Web connection.

  • How to create multiple reports and dashboards from one dataset?

    Hi there,
I've centralized the data to an excel workbook from multiple data sources and added as a dataset to my new Power BI site. How can I build multiple reports and dashboards out of one dataset?

    Hi Kuber,
In the Datasets section on the Navigation pane (left side of your Dashboards page), you can click "..." next to each dataset. One of the options in the contextual menu is Explore. When you explore a dataset, you can create reports and save
    them.
You can find more about this and other topics in our Getting Started content:
