Non-technical: cleaning your display and kit

Nowhere have I found advice on this topic. After much effort, I thought I'd share my experiences. If you're like me, a bit OCD about your kit and its appearance, this is for you.
This works for glass/synthetic displays, as well as aluminium housings.
Your iMac display (perhaps your Cinema display) suffers marks from fingertips, drinks and food. It's an unavoidable hazard. My 2013 iMac is a case in point.
The iMac has a glass bezel, the Cinema display is synthetic. It's my experience that both will benefit from the same treatment.
I've used glass cleaners, (non-abrasive) polishes and proprietary solutions such as iKlear. No matter the solution, and the cloth used, streaking and smudging are the result.
My solution is:
a clean duster, wet, wrung out - if you use a new duster, it's too soft, try to get an old one;
a microfibre cloth, dry.
Use the wet duster to remove all filth, then dry with the cloth. Repeat. And repeat. And repeat...
This might seem obvious, but if you Goggle for this solution you'll find very little guidance.

Seems self-explanatory to me.
Displays
Disconnect the display from power, from its connection to a computer, and from any external devices. Next use the cloth that came with your display or another soft, dry cloth to wipe dust from the screen. If additional cleaning of the display panel or case is required use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. Don't use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean the display.
Warning: Don't clean the screen with a cleaner containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner intended for use with a screen or display. Never spray cleaner directly on the screen. It may drip inside the display and cause damage.

MagSave, yes. Other ports cannot be safely cleaned although you can blow air in to clean out dust.

  • Cleaning Your Camera and Lens

Like everything we own cameras and lenses get dirty and should be cleaned from time to time. It’s really not too difficult, but make sure to do it right. The feeling of scratching an expensive lens while trying to clean it is something you’ll regret for a while.
Items you need to clean your camera and lens
    Brushes
    Air Blower
    Lens Cleaning Liquid
    Cleaning cloth or Tissues
How to clean you camera and Lens
First you should take a brush, designed to clean photography equipment, and brush off all surfaces.
Now take the Air Blower and blow any remaining loose debris (i.e. sand, dust, etc…) off the camera and lens surfaces. Pay special attention to crevices. You should also make sure to blow out the memory card slots and accessory ports.
Next get your Cleaning Cloth/Cleaning Tissues wet with some of your Lens Cleaning Liquid and clean all surfaces. When cleaning glass surfaces, like lenses and LCD screens, make sure to move the cloth/tissue in a circular motion.  I personally like a Microfiber Cleaning Cloth over tissues.
I would not try to clean the rear lens element of a DSLR or Compact System Camera (CSC), beyond just blowing any dust off of it. Being that the rear lens element should almost always be protected from the elements it shouldn't need to be cleaned much.
Do not use compressed “air” on a camera. Unless held perfectly upright for short amounts of time, these can emit aerosol and the pressure involved can damage some areas of a camera.
There are techniques to clean a camera’s sensor, but other than blowing off the sensor with a blower, I would recommend not doing this yourself. Although you can do this, it would be terrible to damage your camera’s sensor. If your camera’s sensor gets dirty, have it professionally cleaned. A professional knows what they are doing, and if they happen to make a mistake, they should cover it.

There are two ways to approach this:
*Leaving feedback for the developers about the functionality of this icon in [https://input.mozilla.org/en-US/feedback/firefox?#moreinfo]
*Suggest a functionality alternative in bugzilla cc sevaan -> however including the steps to reproduce, what is expected and what actually happens in the bug description is very important.

  • What do you use to clean your MBP, and how do you do it?

Is iKlear the clear (heh) favorite? Is there any other more generic stuff I can use that'd be cheaper (or that I could depend on should the product no become longer available)?
How often do you clean? And how thoroughly (i.e. is there anyone out there who cleans under the keys or in any crevices like that to get out dust and stuff, assuming it's possible to do that at all)?
And how do you do it in a way that doesn't let moisture in when you clean the keyboard and related areas? Everyone says "if it's not dripping, it won't do anything," but it seems evident to me that it's highly possible to have a cloth that's not dripping, yet still be damp enough to allow moisture to get in where it doesn't belong. There are threads here about people who've damaged their MBP in just that way. How do you make sure that doesn't happen?
Feel free to answer with what you think is best in general or with how you personally do it... or both!
    Thanks!

Everyone says "if it's not dripping, it won't do anything,"
Who says that? It's totally wrong and extremely dangerous to your MBP.
No third party products are necessary. Tap water (or distilled water, if you have access to it) will suffice just fine.
I use the black cloth that came with the computer to clean it. I turn on a tap such that it is just on more than a steady drip, then moisten a corner of that cloth. Wring out the excess moisture until it is only damp. There must NOT be any drips whatsoever, so wring it out thoroughly. Shut down the computer, and use the moistened corner to wipe down the areas of aluminum that are not close to the ports or speaker grilles. You may have to moisten the cloth multiple times to cover the whole machine. Mine often dries in the process of wiping down the case. It must be that dry, that it will dry out in 3 minutes.
There is no reason to take a chance with getting any water into the computer at all. Take half an hour to do a thorough job with a very lightly damp cloth (may have to remoisten it once or twice) every couple weeks, instead of paying $1000 for a logic board replacement if any water gets in.

  • Letting non-technical clients design forms and workflows

Some individuals in my organization are under the impression that our clients, who are very non-technical, will be able to design forms / workflows, etc.
The impression is that the developers are to create a set of standard schemas, fragment libraries, and workflows, and then the (non-technical) client can build their own forms, select a predefined Task Manager endpoint, and hit the ground running with their new form, in production. Yes you heard me correctly. In production. That means no DEV, no QA, no passing Go.
In other words, they are putting LiveCycle on the same playing field as Vignette (Content management in production).
I disagree with their approach and am seeking feedback. Thanks! ;-)

If the form is bound to a schema, at least when they move form elements around, most of the time it will still work. If normal binding, moving stuff around will screw up the data merge.
The biggest problem I see with the changes being made directly in production is that I save my forms to the repository in order to test. The preview tab quite often does not represent true functionality. So if they had Workbench pointing right at prod, the form cannot be tested without releasing it.
I don't know what you mean between content repository and Workbench repository. The way my implementation works, if I save in Workbench, I can immediately reload the page to get the changes. They are the same repository. I am using the API call (off the top of my head) renderFormWithUSageRights. I specify a repository URL for the template location. All my forms render through the same servlet parsing the form name out of the request URL. There is an XDP in the repository with the same name as each pdf URL. There is also a corresponding JSP which renders the XML that is merged in at render.
I saw a reference somewhere that the repository URL could contain a version at the end. I have not tried this. If true, it would not be difficult for me to update my code to get the version number out of my properties database table. Then also allow an override version number in the URL for the final form. So http://mycompany.com/myform.pdf renders the 'released' version and http://mycompany.com/myform.pdf?version=2.7 returns that specific version. http://mycompany.com/myform.pdf?version=latest would work like it does now where no version number is specific in the repository URL. This would mean they could save the form, access in production to test, but not affect normal users. Once tested, the database could be updated to reflect the new released version. It would be really slick to have a workflow approval process around it. The workflow would have a link to the new version for each approver to review. After the last person signs, the workflow would update the database to the new version. The next time it is rendered will be the latest version.
Thinking about this, I like that idea even if a developer makes the changes. There are times when customers won't sign off on their own requested changes because they won't make the effort to test it before it goes into production. They would rather let the changes go in then report anything they don't like as a bug. They feel if they don't sign, then they cannot be held accountable. Sometimes the same people or others will get angry if an item is not put into production based on not getting sign off. Now, the deployment would be tied directly to the sign off procedure rather than manually by someone in IT. All approvers would be able to look at the audit trail to see who has not signed off and therefore the direct cause of an item not being released.

  • Is there a way to connect 1 external thunderbolt display and 1 external HDMI display to a mid 2012 MBP (non-retina display)?

I've had a 24" Asus HDMI montitor for a while, and just got a 27" Apple thunderbolt display. I was wondering if there was a way to connect both of these to my mid-2012 Macbook Pro (non-retina). I know you can daisy-chain 2 thunderbolt displays, so I tried plugging my Asus into the thunderbolt display (using an HDMI to mini-display port adapter) and it didn't work. Suggestions??

Mini DisplayPort displays and adapters don't work directly with a Thunderbolt display, but will if you connect a Thunderbolt disk drive (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the Thunderbolt display and the Mini DisplayPort device.

  • Unable to display the Kit Items and component Items in XML Publisher

we have created an Order with Kit Items, when we Pick Release the Order it is not printing Kit Items as it is Oracle standard functionality. We customized the Pick Slip RDF to display Kit Items.
when we run the XML Publisher version of Pick Slip report, it is displaying component Items on one page and Kit Items on another page without header information.
How can we display Kit Items and Component Items on single page instead of 2 pages?
Please give us suggestions to implement this in XML Publisher.
    Thanks&Regards,

I dont know anything about the Pick Slip template so am unable to help without more information.
If there are enough kit items to fill more than one page then w/o reducing the font size you'll have to put up with the items spilling to a second page

Good afternoon, I would like some information I have an ipod nano 6th generation and has the same one-year warranty is only 2 months of use, and it fell down and broke the glass of the display, I called technical assistance in Brazil and informed me that Brazil has no repair services for Apple, which was the basis of its price change in the exchange is not worth half the value of the product.
I wonder how I do to change this device without the expense of 50% for the same product is in warranty?
    Thanks in advance.

yes agree, plus a multinational seeing a product and has no technical assistance to do the maintenance then it's no use I buy a new product if it is damaged I will always be because it has no prejudice in this maintenance.
sorry but even more products coming from China to Brazil in technical assistance.

  • A free, simple undocking app for Thunderbolt Display (and non-thunderbolt) users...

If you are using a Thunderbolt display and have several external drives, it can be a pain to undock all of the external drives when you want to unplug the monitor. Here is a link to an app that can undock it for you. I've tested it on Lion. If you like it please leave a comment on the blog. Thanks!
    http://chompingatbits.com/2011/09/23/undocking-from-an-apple-thunderbolt-display /
Just download the app. Then run it anytime you want to eject all of your external drives.

Mini DisplayPort displays and adapters don't work directly with a Thunderbolt display, but will if you connect a Thunderbolt disk drive (with two Thunderbolt ports) between the Thunderbolt display and the Mini DisplayPort device.

  • What is the best way to clean the display on an rMBP and Thunderbolt display?

Can I use a damp cloth to clean my display on an rMBP and a Thunderbolt display, or should it be a dry soft cloth?  My displays are in desparate need of cleaning.

This is what I now use:
    http://www.officeworld.com/Worlds-Biggest-Selection/DRACB702288/13Q1/?gclid=COjp r8rOj7kCFVNo7Aode3EAxg
I discovered it in the supermarket.  I dampen a small microfiber cloth (6x6) with the Windex and wipe the display.  Then I use a large microfiber cloth (12x15) to dry it.  Excellent results.
NOTE THIS IS NOT THE CONVETIONAL WINDEX CLEANER.
    Ciao.

  • I started to download Maverick but then read that Word and Excel do not work  with Maverick.  I hit pause on the download. How do I stop the download.  In non technical terms please!

How do I stop the download of Maverick on my MacBookPro?  I started downloading then discovered that 2008 Word and Excel do not work  with Maverick. I have too many files in the 2008 version to upgrade them at this time.  I just need instructions in non technical terms to stop the Maverick download.

I did the same as Tapmr and have paused the "upgrade".  So am I to understand that the upgrade only downloads and will not automatically install it?  I am an extreme novice here, and cannot afford any issues after I upgrade/download.  I don't know how to make a clone copy as you suggested either.
I need assurance that if the upgrade is allowed to continue that I will be able to delete the upgrade downloaded and continue on as before with my regular system.

  • How to display your email and a message to finder on the lock screen of an iPhone?

    Hi,
I loose things, including phones and keys...
To prevent a worst case scenario: How to display your email and a message to finder on the lock screen of an iPhone? (6 plus, current iOS)
That is, I assume most people finding an iPhone would want to try to contact me to give it back to me, if they know how: how can leave my contact information in the phone? This needs to be on the lock screen, naturally, as this is the only view the finder can see. It would be useful to be able to add a message of sorts a la "if found please call my wife ### or email me ###".
How can this be done other than editing the JPG of the wallpaper, or sticking a business card to the back of the phone (these are the only solutions I came up with, there must be something better).
    Cheers!

    Greetings _daniel_,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It seems like you'd like to display a message on your iPhone 6 Plus in the event it is lost. Good news--you can do this with the Find my iPhone feature of iCloud.
Check out these links for more information:
    iCloud: Set up iCloud
    iCloud: Use Lost Mode
If you can’t find your device, use Lost Mode right away to lock it with a passcode, display a custom message on the screen, and keep track of its location.
    Cheers,

    Hi,
If the issue persists, I recommend you install Exchange 2007 SP3 RU7 and check the result. Also, ensure that Exchange 2010 SP2 RU1 or later version is installed. Old Exchange version may lead to the CAS-to-CAS proxy incompatibility.
