NOOB NEED HELP: Building smart home automation app

Hi!
So i am a webbdesigner, i can make awesome design in psd and produce them in html and css3, but i dont have any idea about making windows phone app.
The problem: Im tired of devices like D-link Home Automation does not support Windows App, and im not going to let them change my phone, so instead i want to devlope an app that talk with my dlink devices.
The question: Is that possible, and how hard is it? Can someone just explain a bit how that works i mean how do i code an app to talk with a device i dont know even how to communicate with?

  • Noob needs help re offline desktop db app - is FB the right tool?

    Hi,
Thanks in advance for reading, and being patient with my long-winded-noobiness!
I am a self taught (read as: big gaps in my knowledge!) independent web designer/developer, with experience in developing PHP/mySQL database web-apps - both with DW, and by hand-coding.  I've been approached by a potential client asking if I could build a simple CRUD desktop application, and am trying to figure out if I can leverage my existing knowledge in doing so.  It's something I know I could develop in a snap for the web, but I'm left realizing I don't know the first thing - or even where to begin learning the first thing! - about desktop software development.  I'm hoping Flash Builder might be just the ticket for me (I'm not sure if the client will want to wait around while I learn JAVA!!), since I already own and am familiar with CS5.  I've been going over all the documentation, tutorials, etc. that I can get my hands on, but am finding my brain a little overwhelmed and frazzled, so I'm hoping one of you wonderful folk might be able to offer a simple answer!
Can I use Flash Builder / Flex to develop a strictly offline, local desktop CRUD application, but one which connects to a (local) mySQL database (ideally with PHP, since that's what I already know) - without the end-user having to separately install a local server?
If not, any suggestions?  As well as Flex, I've been looking into Java (but am finding the learning curve quite steep), and Filemaker Pro 11 Advanced (which allows you to create a runtime - but I'm finding it a bit restrictive, and would rather not have any Filemaker branding on the finished product),
In case you're wondering why I don't just convince the client to create a web-app instead, the data stored would be of a sensitive nature, and the main target demographic is baby-boomers, many of whom are still very wary of the interwebs
Thank you so much for any help you can offer!
    Cheers,
    David

Actually, I would think that Flex would be ideal using AIR with a SQLite database (the database is built in to AIR apps). However, if you've not done programming with Flex before, I won't trivialize the learning curve you have ahead of you. If you haven't already done so, go through Flex in a Week or get the latest Training from the Source for Flex 4 and get comfortable with the Flex workspace and programming environment. You'll like come to love it but it's a bit different than PHP. It would be an easier transition, I think, if you had a heavy background in JavaScript or Java so that you felt comfortable using OOP programming techniques. If you already structure your PHP programs with OO principles, it'll be an issue of getting used to the language and, if I were guessing, that might take you a month or two. That's my 2 cents worth.

  • I have tried everything I know to retrieve the iPhoto Library app.  I detest this new Photo app, which obviously wasn't designed with photographers in mind.  I desperately need help in retrieving the old app and have not been able to do it so far.

I have tried everything I know to retrieve the iPhoto Library app.  I detest this new Photo app, which obviously wasn't designed with photographers in mind.  I desperately need help in retrieving the old app and have not been able to do it so far.  I have gone to my app folder and tried to update my iPhoto Library.  I have gone to my trash and brought it over to my desktop and still cannot use it.  Please help!

Try this fix discovered by User photosb189:
From Finder, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the Go menu at the top of the screen
Select Library from the drop down menu
Then navigate to Application Support > iLifeAssetManagement > assets
Right click on the 'sub' folder and choose Compress
Drag the resulting zip file to your Desktop (as a backup)
Go to your System Preferences and choose iCloud
Turn OFF the iCloud Photos option
Go back to Library > Application Support and DELETE the iLifeAssetManagement folder
Now, in System Preferences, turn the iCloud Photos option ON
iPhoto should now be able to launch. Give it enough time to re-download your Photo Stream content. if you are missing any of your My Photo Stream photos (more than 30 days old), unzip the sub folder on your desktop and drag that into iPhoto.

  • Need help with a Spreadsheet style app

I was just wanting some help in working with developing an app for my iphone... i had previous experience in microsoft visual basic but i don't quite understand this code....
I am in flight school and trying to develop an app that reflects the weight an balance forms we do... I am stuck on how to do basic multiplication and division with xcode, i have viewed several videos and tutorials but they each do things differently and i can't seem to bring it together into this app.
So in the picture below.... what i need help with is how to do the following
    from
aircraft weight * arm = Moment outbound
front seats * arm = Moment outbound
    to fuel @ landing
    "0" fuel weight = aircraft weight + front seats + rear seats+ Baggage 1 + baggage 2
If anyone has any ideas or can lend me some tip or places that deal with stuff like this that would be great

A character class [...] robs some otherwise special codes from their magic. The +, for instance, is interpreted as a plus, not as "repeat ad nauseum" anymore.
So your try [\d+] will simply match either a single digit or a single plus. The solution is to move the + outside of the character class
    [\d]+
.. and in that case there is no reason anymore to create a class for just digits, as you got it already.
The period *needs* to  be escaped, because otherwise it will match *any* character.
    Try this for a change:
    \d+\.\d+

  • Need help for switching to Oracle Apps

    Hi All,
I am a System Analyst working in Singapore for the last 6 yrs.Currently for the last 3+ years i am in the project implementation & support team for ERP Team.We are using JD Edwards.Currently i have the role of Functional Consultant.
I want to shift to Oracle Apps (11i).The reason being there is not much scope in JD Edwards.Intially i was working in Developer 2000 as a Forms/Reports Developer.
I couple of questions to ask :
    1) Do i need to go though a Oracle Apps Training as i already have experience in Jd Edwards ??
    2) Can somebody recommend some good Training institutes in Singapore with Placement Assistance ??
    3) Do anybody knows any company in Singapore who can give training in Oracle Apps and take in professionals who want to make a switch but have experience in another ERP package ??
    Thanks
    Regards

    Hi,
As you said you were initially working on Developer2000 so it would be lot easier since there would enough background on PL/SQL,forms and reports.Best thing for you I would recomend is pick 2 or 3 modules of your area in JD Edwards like Financials(General Ledger,Recievables,Purchasing,Payables,Fixed Assests...) or HRMS Suite(HRMS,Payroll,Advanced Benefits) which I believe the core business logic for any ERP would be the same. So pick your strong modules in JD Edwards and go through the Oracle Apps Doc. which is available online. In the documentation you will find Application Developer Guide which will be helpful if you are looking to be an Technical Person or you can go through the Module wise documentation if interested in Functional position. Either case better to have overall idea about interested module I mean how the logic and setup will be.
Initially it will be rough however if you don't give up Apps is lot easier.

Converting AVI to MPEG on Windows XP OS

YOu need to learn how to use FCP.  Sorry, no offense needed, and I know it sounds harsh. But from reading that I can tell you have no idea about how to properly import tapeless media into FCP...and don't know what formats FCP works with...nor know what formats the cameras record.  This is all basic stuff you need to know before you edit.  Editing isn't only creative, but lately highly technical as well...you need to know what your software is capable of doing, and how to get the footage into it properly.
You cannot do what you did...directly drag from the cameras into FCP.  No...it needs to be imported, typically with LOG AND TRANSFER...and converted from the shooting format, which typically isn't natively editable in FCP (want native, use Adobe Premiere...).  It needs to be converted to ProRes.  And yes, the file sizes of ProRes are a LOT bigger than the camera originals.  4-5 times larger.  That's how FCP works.
Here's a quick tutorial to get you started.  But then I suggest getting to know the editing system better.

  • [Athlon64] Noob needs help optimizing new system

Sorry to post yet another thread, but I've been lurking for the past few days and I only get bits and pieces of what I need. I'm pretty clueless about this stuff as it's my first home-built system
See my sig for system info...
I'm needing help with bios settings. The pertinent stuff (I think - hopefully I got it all down):

My questions mainly concern memory. I bought all this stuff at the Tiger Direct outlet store in Naperville, Illinois. I had intended to buy the K8T Neo-FSR (754 pin), but they were supposedly out of the 754 pin 3400+, and this board/CPU combo had a $100 rebate. Yeah, it's one of those deals with the odd 939 pin 3400+ that everyone has been talking about.
In any case, I already had the Corsair CMX512-3200C2PT picked out, as Corsair said it was compatible with the board. I wasn't aware of the MSI compitibility chart until I came here later that night. I STILL can't find that chart off of the MSI web site.
Anyway, I got it all hooked up and got the standard 4 red LEDs. Not knowing what to do, I took it back to Tiger Direct and the tech played around with it until he stuck an el-cheapo stick (Corsair VS512MB400) in there and it worked. But it only works in slot 2. So here I am.
I started to run memtest86, but it took too long to run and I aborted it for now. For what it's worth, it said the RAM CAS value is 2.5-2-2-5. I don't know what the hell that means, but I know it's important.
    My questions:
    1. I assume I need manually to set my memory clock value to DDR400?
    2. Now that I can get the thing to post, is there any chance I could get the "good" Corsair memory to work by setting the correct latency/CAS values? Again, I don't know what I'm talking about, so forgive my ignorance. What I'm wondering is if I can set everything to what Corsair recommends while I have the cheap memory in there and then replace it with the good stuff?
    3. With this board, am I better off with double-sided or single-sided sticks? As I said, I went into the store intending to buy the Neo 754-pin board, but they were out of the Athlon 3400+ in 754 and only had the 939 pin.
    4. Anything else in my bios settings that stand out and need to be addressed? I want to make sure everything is optimized.
EDIT: I almost forgot: My CPU temp is runing around 42-49 degrees. Am I in the danger zone? I just bought a generic cooler for now and intend to get a Thermalright XP-120, but I can't find it locally, so it will have to wait.
    AND FINALLY...
I don't know if this is related to anything above, but I have been having a hell of a time getting the 6600GT to run DirectX9+ games. The latest drivers for Windows 98SE was 66.94. Yes, XP will be installed soon, but for now... It was failing on dxdiag test for Direct3d 9 and also the third DirectDraw test. I was about to give up and take it back when I discovered that a new beta driver came out today (71.84). I installed it and it passed all of the dxdiag tests. I thought I was in hawg-heaven, but when I run Call of Duty (the only DX9 game I have besides HL2), it slows to an absolute clawl. The level starts out somewhat normal at first, but quickly slows down to the point that performance can only be measured in seconds per frame! All of the patches 1.5 and 1.51 for UO have been installed, but that shouldn't make a bit of difference.
If I don't get my CoD fix soon I'm gonna reinstall that Geforce3.
Thanks much and sorry again for such a long post.

Thanks everyone for the recent replies, but I started this thread almost a month ago (March 3rd), and much has changed since then.
    New PSU (see sig).
Replaced the PNY Geforce6600GT with a eVGA 6800
Added another stick of the Corsair Value Select 512 RAM. I didn't even bother trying to get the "primo" CMX stick to work. I just returned it.
Went from Windows 98SE to XP Home.
The PSU did nothing for me at all, but I suppose it's better to have some headroom in the amperage.
The biggest performance booster was the additional 512MB of RAM. It wouldn't have done me any good in 98SE, but I was shocked at how much it helps XP. Quitting a game is almost instant now, where before it would take a good two minutes or so for XP to recover itself.
As for games running slow, the 6800 fixed it right up. CoD absolutely screams now, as does everything else I've thrown at it (HL2, Doom 3, Far Cry). I think the 6600GT was just bad or there is a serious driver problem with the 6600GT's. Went from 3DMark03 score of around 5000 (when it didn't crash) to above 9000 now. And this was all before adding the additional RAM.
Oh yeah, I bought a 74GB Raptor. No RAID for now though. So far I'm not real impressed with the performance. I'm running off of the VIA controller, since my board doesn't have the Promise controller. I don't see much improvement in loading times as compared to the 40GB 7200rpm Maxtor I have running on IDE1. The only time it beats the pants off the Maxtor is defragging. But there's only so much entertainment value in that.  The Sandra "file system benchmark" gave me 57 MB/s, which seems pathetic, but I've read some posts here where others are getting an identical rate.
And I'm not too happy to discover, too late, that my overclocking capabilities are severely limited while using SATA.
I do have one more question for now:
When I installed the second 512MB stick, I originally had both sticks in slot 1 and 2. I ran Sandra's memory bandwidth benchmark and got a much lower score than with the single stick (around 3500 MB/s). WHen I had the sticks in 1 and 3, it jumped up to close to 6000 MB/s. Why is that? Just curious.

  • Noob Needs Help! Please Please Please Help!

MD doing reserach on Genetic Mutations, I really need help on this, I have never used PL/SQL. Can somebody help me with this?
I have a view made of mulitple table that has following columns: diagnosis, patient_id, kindred_id, column_d, colum_e.... column_p where each distinct combination of column_d to column_p means one specific mutation. I want to group patients who have same mutation to find out the following:
for each mutation(unique column d through column p), I want to find out how many families have diagnosis 1, diagnosis 2, diagnosis 3...
The rule is the program will look at kindre_id first, to see if this person's kindre_id has been looked at. If
so, jump it/ignore it. If this kindred_id has never been looked at, treat it as a unique family. Diagnosis count for that diagnosis will then increase by 1. Sounds easy, but I don't know how to write that for loop that will do for each unique (column d, column c, ... column p) do the following... Does such a thing exist?

    Hi,
    SELECT     diagnosis
    ,     COUNT (DISTINCT kindred_id)     AS family_cnt
    ,     column_d
    ,     column_e
    ,     column_f
    FROM     table_x
    GROUP BY     diagnosis
    ,          column_d
    ,          column_e
    ,          column_f
    ;     produces this output:
    DIAGNOSIS FAMILY_CNT COLUMN_D   COLUMN_E   COLUMN_F
             1          2 abc        bca        acb
             2          2 abc        bca        acb
3          2 abc        bca        acbwhich is the data you want, but not in the format you want. You want to pivot the family_cnt column from the three rows into three columns in one row. For general information about how to this, search for "pivot" on this or similar sites.
    One solution is:
SELECT     COUNT (DISTINCT CASE WHEN diagnosis = 1 THEN kindred_id END)     AS diagnosis_1
,     COUNT (DISTINCT CASE WHEN diagnosis = 2 THEN kindred_id END)     AS diagnosis_2
,     COUNT (DISTINCT CASE WHEN diagnosis = 3 THEN kindred_id END)     AS diagnosis_3
    ,     column_d
    ,     column_e
    ,     column_f
    FROM     table_x
    GROUP BY     column_d
    ,          column_e
    ,          column_f
;     which produces the following output:
    DIAGNOSIS_1 DIAGNOSIS_2 DIAGNOSIS_3 COLUMN_D   COLUMN_E   COLUMN_F
2           2           2 abc        bca        acbThis technique assumes that you know exactly how many different diagnoses there are and what the distinct values of the diagnosis column are. (I.e., in this example, I knew that that there were three diagnosie and that their values were 1, 2 and 3. I used that information to write three COUNT expressions, with values 1, 2 and 3 hard-coded into them.)
So, what can you do if you do not know the diagnosis values? The columns have to be hard-coded into the query, so how can you possiblly write something today that will have all the values that are in the table next month? You can't, but you can write something today that you can run (unchanged) next month which will write such a query. In other words, you can do dynamic SQL, where you run a preliminary query to get the different diagnosis values, write an appropriate query similar to the one above, and then run that newly-created query. The PL/SQL command "EXECUTE IMMEDIATE" can help with this.
The code above works in all versions of Oracle. In Oracle 11, there is a more straigtforward way of specifyng PIVOT in a SELECT statement.

  • Need HELP building a website in Flash CS6

    Hi,
I need help creating buttons within buttons with interactive capablility and separate timlines. The parent button on rollover will display the child button. The Child button on down state must  be able to display a table that has links to images and other content. I'm a designer not a coder and I believe that this effort will require a lot of code.
Below is an image of the navigation. The small squares are the parent buttons. The text that is displayed on rollover is the child button. Once the text button is clicked a table will animate out of the little orange square on the side and move off to the right displaying numerous images that are linked to other content. After the table displays it needs to have its own timeline. If the orange square is clicked again or if the user clicks on the white space the table will colapse  and the orange square will retract to it's original up state. I hope that makes sense and I appreciate any feedback.

To get the kind of interaction and anoimation you identify you will need to use movieclip symbols instead of button symbols.

  • Uber Noob Needs Help Creating website!

I need help creating my webpage: It has a textbox on it were
the user enters a URL and it then redirects the end user to that
URL when they press the GO Button. It also has a check box saying
"Hide my IP", If the end user clicks this box and then clicks go
they will be directed to the website they stateted in the Textbox
but this time it shall mask there IP Address so they can bypass
proxys and surf anonomosly. Please can someone give me some HTML
code i could use for this site or a Link to a website that can give
    me the code.

I assume the application is connecting to Oracle using an application ID/password. If so, check to see if that user has a private synonyn to the table. If so drop it since you have a public synonym.
Verify that the public synonym is in fact correct. Drop and recreate the public synonym if you cannot select against the synonym name using an ID that can perform select * from inhouse.icltm where rownum = 1. That is if this other user cannot issue select * from icltm where rownum = 1 without an error.
Check that the application ID has the necessary object privileges on the table.
    Queries you need
    select * from dba_synonyms
    where table_owner = 'INHOUSE'
    and table_name = 'ICLTM'
You may find both public and private synonms. Either fix or delete. (Some may reference someelses.icltm table if one exists)
    select * from dba_tab_privs
    where table_name = 'ICLTM'
    and owner = 'INHOUSE'
Note - it is possible to create mixed case or lower case object names in Oracle by using double quotes around the name. Do not do this, but do look to see that this was not done.
You could also query dba_objects for all object types that have the object_name = 'ICLTM'

  • Help needed in building a demo mobile app for DRM support using Content server 4

    Hi all,
I am building an application for the blackberry to support reading of pdf and ebuf content similar to Adobe Digital Editions with DRM support . I came to know about the Adobe RMSDK .
Following is my understanding regarding my implementation , please correct me if i am wrong:
The DRM implementation on a mobile device for Adobe should satisfy the following criteria:
    1. The mobile device should have a application which uses the Adobe RMSDK.
    2. The publisher or the server app should install and run the content server 4
    3. An acsm file which contains the rights data should be saved stored at the adobe server and should be downloaded by the mobile client.
    4. The urls in the acsm xml file will be used to fetch the content for the ebook.
    I have the following querries:
    1. Is there an implementation of the RMSDK for java to run on blackberry.
    2. Is Adobe content server 4 free to install, if not do we have a test server for this purpose.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for your kind reply. I have some more querries
Suppose if we have a client implementation of the Adove RMSDK in java,  please help answer these querries:
    1. How do we connect to the cs4 server (what will be the flow of data, is there a documentaion regarding the protocol to be used between the mobile client and the cs4 server in order to communicate and fetch Rights protected ebuf and pdf data.
    2. The link http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/library does not give me information of how to use this library to store by ebook data and fetch  drm data from the mobile client and the protocol/communication followed.
    3. How do i go forward in evaluating acs4( getting a test version of cs4 and using it ). We want to build a demo app in blackberry.
    thanks

*2nd thing I want to do*
Show a large picture of a house, then zoom in to the truss of that house, while the masking region stays the same. then have that picture shrink to the bottom left like the first example.
Is it possible to do this? Please help

I'm trying to do something similar, where I zoom and move an image, but I want the mask to remain fixed. Right now all I can seem to do is zoom and move the whole image, including the mask.
Were you able to fix the mask?

    the rest to follow

It looks like you have multiple problems going on at once.
It takes about 10 seconds from startup to get to the point where it starts complaining:
Dec 22 08:30:54 Macintosh-3 kernel[0]: USBF: 12.187 AppleUSBHubPort: Port 2 of Hub at 0x5d000000 about to terminate a busy device (IOUSBCompositeDevice) after waiting 10 seconds
This is some USB device that's hanging. Try unplugging your everything on the USB line other than your keyboard and mouse and see what difference that makes..
    Dec 22 08:31:00 Macintosh-3 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.ciprico.bcapiservice): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
This is your RAID controller and it's clearly having issues. Without knowing your disk configuration it's impossible to predict what impact this will have, but over half the messages relate to the RAID controller. Where did you get the controller? What devices are connected to it?

  • Need Help build my ati custom kernel

    Hello.
I have been trying to build a custom kernel based on kernel2612-cko2-swsusp2 but modified:
-2.6.10 version for better compatibility with Ati drivers
    -without swsusp2
    -without cdburning.patch
    Here are PKGBUILD:

In this kernel I have made the modifications for ati-drivers in the kernel26 config as shown in the wiki. I used the PKGBUILD from the wiki for custom kernels.
I installed it and now I am posting from it.
I downloaded the ati-drivers-5 PKGBUILD to build my ati drivers. In the PKGBUILD I used
    _kernel=2.6.12-ati
    When I makepkg I get:
    [root@myhost ati-drivers]# makepkg -f
