Not shown the latest backup time

I install itunes on my new computer and sync my apple devices. For some reason after I back up my devices at the summary tab  it was not written when was the latest backup. I can find it on the preferences but not in the summary tab.
I am not sure if it was backup or not.
Any idea why ?, Thanks

  • I need to restore my Ipad from the iCloud, but not from the latest backup.  Can I restore from a previous date?  If so How?

I went yesterday to the Albany, NY apple store genius bar with a sound issue on the Ipad.  After 2 hours the "genius" told me that
they tried wiping my  Ipad clean, but not to worry that first everything was saved in the cloud.  I was told I had to reload all
purchased Apps and would be no charge and would take some time.  Due to the late hour I said I'd do it at home.  I did not do
it last night.  This morning I open the Ipad  to find nothing in it....no contacts,  no notes....nothing.  I rushed back to the apple
store and was told that apparently last night a backup took place and the Icloud backed up a clean Ipad....no info.  This is a
huge problem.  Apple personel simply said sorry that the "genius" should have known better.   Attempts to restore seems to
only go back to the last backup which of course is blank.  Now my question is .....is it possible somehow with the cloud from a
previous date like you can with  a PC?

  • Time Machine no longer displays "Latest Backup" time

I have been using Time Machine since 10.5 came out and it worked perfectly.
I recently purchased a Time Capsule and (in common with a lot of others it seems), I have faced various issues (very slow initial backup, very long "preparing..." messages etc.) but they all seem to have been resolved (albeit somewhat mysteriously).
However, one problem occurred recently that I haven't seen mentioned before: in the drop-down menu under the time-capsule icon in the menu bar, the "Latest Backup" time is always shown as "--" Time Machine preferences shows the same, both for the initial backup and the latest backup.
Time Machine runs hourly as it should, and a cursory examination of the files in the Time Machine interface seems to show that all is in order. The "sparsebundle" disk image also passes verification.
For what it's worth, my MacBook Pro (also 10.5.2) appears to be just fine and shows the Latest Backup time correctly.
I looked in the system log but couldn't see a message that I thought was relevant.
Does anyone have any ideas about what might be up and how to correct this? I have considered deleting the Time Machine sparsebundle for the Mac Pro and starting again (since I haven't had the Time Capsule long enough to be terribly concerned about the history on the drive - yet). But I'm hoping someone has an idea what might be up and how I can correct it first.
I must say Time Capsule isn't exactly filling me with confidence. My offsite SuperDuper backups are going to be updated very regularly until my faith in Time Machine has been restored.
    This only

This may not pertain to your issue, but might be worth considering if you use virus software. Time machine has been hanging, not showing time-stamps, and not giving me access to backups since I installed Intego Virus software and Leopard 10.5.2. I finally tracked down the Intego problem yesterday browsing this forum for answers. When I added my Time Machine disk to Intego Virus software's trusted items, Time Machine began behaving normally again (and other problems cleared up-such as hang on shut-down). Good luck with your issue. David

  • "Latest Backup" time/date is incorrect for OS X Server Time Machine backups

I administer a OS X Server that provides Time Machine backups for clients across our small business network. I'm running Server on a Mac Mini (2.3 GHz i7 with 8GB RAM), and after going from Mavericks to Yosemite (and from Server 3 to Server 4) the other day, the TM backups are still running hourly, but the "Latest Backup" times are incorrect.  Has anyone noticed this behavior?  In case it matters, none of the clients currently being backed up are Yosemite clients.  I mentioned this because for our older clients (10.6), the "Latest Backup" times/dates were always listed as "Unknown" in Server 3, and continue to be in Server 4.  Thanks!

I also had to restart the server and client after applying the "fix" I described above. Basically, no user should have multiple, simultaneous file sharing sessions on the server. But even clearing the user sessions does not resolve the problem beyond the next Time Machine backup, so I also tried disabling and enabling file sharing, but the problem also returns after doing this. Only restarting both the client and server after clearing the sessions has worked for me when I have this problem. The problem may return much later, but this work aroudn definitely works as a temporary solution.
Next time I encounter this problem I will try restarting just the server or just the client, because it is unlikely that the problem exists due to something on both systems. Server 3.x is definitely not as stable as it should be, but for my use, it is getting the job done.

  • Find files on Time Machine that weren't in the "Latest Backup"?

I restored my new Mac with the "Latest Backup" of Time Machine. I now understand that I will have to erase the whole backup harddrive in order to continue using Time Machine (I cannot get it to do incremental backups with my new computer from where I left off on the old one).
Since I  deleted some files from my old computer after early backups, I presume they wouldn't be on my new computer because I backed up from the "Latest Backup", correct?
Is there any way that I can find out which files I have backed up someplace on my harddrive that are not on my computer now? That way I would be able to locate and transfer them all into a temporary folder on my computer, erase my external harddrive, do a fresh backup of everything on my computer, then I could delete that temporary folder once everything is done. That way I still won't have those files on my computer, but I will have them backed up.
    Does this make sense?
    Thanks a lot

You may be able to get the new Mac to "inherit" the old one's backups manually.  See #B6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
But the practice of deleting originals, assuming Time Machine will keep the backups indefinitely, is a major mistake.  See  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #20.
Linc is correct about multiple backups -- it's always prudent.  See #27 in the FAQ link for some suggestions.

  • Due to NAS issues, when I started a new time machine backup it did not have the old backups available. My question is do I need to delete them or will time machine automatically reclaim the space?  Only one Sparse Bundle, same name.

Due to NAS issues, when I started a new time machine backup it did not have the old backups available. My question is do I need to delete them or will time machine automatically reclaim the space?  There is only one sparse bundle but when I enter time machine I don't see my historic backups.  I use a synology DS212 for my time machine.  Started a new backup which is 218gb but it says 618 gb is occupied  therefore it looks like 2 or 3 backups are still on the disk. Before my NAS issues the last backup was in 2014.  As you can see there is a second sparse bundle from 2012.  Not sure what that is.

This is an old message now, but what happened to me similarly was:
I had a major computer crash and through complicated pathways ended up reinstalling (Mavericks) as a new user (long story).
At least I had good Time Machine backups on an NAS drive (Synology DS212j), or so I thought - when I started Time Machine up again, the old backup file was gone, replaced by a new one using my "new computer" name. The old file was gone both by directly mounting the NAS drive and by clicking "Enter Time Machine".
It's like I had {OldShareName}.sparsebundle and then it was replaced by {NewShareName}.sparsebundle, all of the old info vanished.
(I have spent a week finding old files elsewhere and have completed a satisfactory self-restore. It pays to "archive" [my own variation of] as well as "back-up".)
My belief is that if this were a wired-netword-drive, e.g. plugged right into my iMac with a USB cable, then the old file would have remained.
But this is an NAS drive, connected directly to my Airport wireless router, and I don't know the significance of the fact that it stores its Time Machine backups as "sparsebundle" files rather than simply as plain(er) files.
As usual when things get complicated with computers (not just Apple computers) there was never a warning message. Something like "YOU'RE ABOUT TO DELETE A TIME MACHINE BACK-UP FILE!!!" would have made my life a lot simpler.
BTW, I did try a "restore from Time Machine" option the first thing I had my "new computer" (old hardware, 2009 iMac) up and running, using Migration Assistant, and it ran for many hours and then failed in the wee hours - what that has to do with anything I'm not sure.
I'm not sure that I have a question about this other than "why do these things happen to me?", but it's a warning. Apart from that I've been very happy with the stability and reliability (but not the cost or set-up complexity) of NAS vs. directly-cabled external drives.

  • Time Machine only enters the latest backup

I am using TM with two disks. Say the latest backup is to disk 2.  When I enter TM it goes disk 2 without asking.  If disk 2 is not available, but disk 1 is clearly mounted on the desktop, it says "backup disk not available".  That's not because it cannot find disk 1, but because it keeps looking for disk 2.
The only way to tell it to look in disk 1 is to do a backup. After that, it can enter disk 1 fine as it becomes the latest. If I connect disk 2 again, it still enter disk 1.
My question is if this is the expected behavior.  (I wouldn't be surprising since there is no option what disk to access.)
Now, one of my disks is a network drive (Western Digital MyBook Live). WD say it is fully compliant with the TM specs and so far it worked fine, aside from the behavior I mentioned.
    Thanks in advance.

See Pondini's TM FAQs, for starters.

  • I forgot the passcode to turn off restrictions. I have restored my iPad back to the factory settings and then synced it with the latest backup. The restrictions are still on and it is asking for the passcode. Can someone tell me how to get that off.

I forgot the passcode to turn off restrictions. I have restored my iPad back to the factory settings and then synced it with the latest backup. The restrictions are still on and it is asking for the passcode. Can someone tell me how to get that off.

The only option is to wipe the device clean and restore it to factory settings.  Hope you have a backup.
Follow the instructions in  iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.
Once you have setup the device as a new one, you can then sync it back with your iTunes account and all your music, apps, contacts and any other content sync'ed with iTunes will be loaded on the device. Any content that is stored only on the device and not sync'ed with iTunes, like app logins or data, will be lost during this process. Be forewarned that this is a long process and can take a couple of hours or more to complete. This can be painful, but it is necessarily so to prevent users from working around the security settings. After the restore is complete, you can setup a new Restrictions passcode. Make a note of the passcode to avoid this situation in future.

  • I download latest addition but still says not on the latest?????

A few minutes ago while signing in it said I did not have the latest addition si I downloaded it left the site and came back about 2 minutes later just to receive the same message. This has happened several times in the last week

Your useragent is listed as 3.6.23 and the latest version is 7.0.1. If you are not intentionally running version 3.6 follow below:
Your UserAgent string in Firefox was messed up by an addon that you installed. -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Agent
Type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.

    Then restart Firefox

  • I have updated Firefox, downloaded and install the update but everytime I open Firefox, I am told that I do not have the latest version, why?

I have downloaded the update and installed it a few times and I still have the same issue, (not having the latest version). I am running windows XP.

If you see the message in here: www.google.com/firefox
'''you are updated '''see your user agent :
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 '''Firefox/9.0.1'''
all you have to do is to '''set another page as the home page''', as '''cor-el '''said with very detailed explanation in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/905310 here]
    '''copied from cor-el reply:'''
"That text about not running the latest Firefox version is hardcoded on the www.google.com/firefox site that previous Firefox used as the home page and Google doesn't seem to maintain that page anymore. Current Firefox versions no longer use that Google site as the home page, but use the build-in about:home page as the home page. So Google assumes that you use an older Firefox version if you still visit that site and warns you about that and suggests to update. You can use another page as the home page like about:home or www.google.com or www.google.com/ig (iGoogle)."

  • Need help: it keeps saying I'm not installing the latest version.

I'm kinda a computer noob so I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm the administrator of my computer. Whenever I try to download the latest version of flash at the end of the download it keeps saying that I'm not downloading the latest version (which I am) and it refrains from being installed on my computer. Can someone please help me?

Then it takes me to another page and then at the top of the screen text pops up saying "This website want to instal the following add-on: 'adobe Flash Player Installer' "from adobe Systems incorportated" click to install if you trust this site" Then I click to install it. Then a window pops up and says windows needs your permission to continue then I click accept, then another window pops up and it says internet explorer add on instaler and it says "do you want to install the add on Adobe Download manager" then I click yes, then it brings me to the message I wrote at the top of this post: the not the most current version thing.

I have an iphone 4 & i forgot to take the latest backup before shifting to iphone 5s. The transition to iphone 5s was very smooth & its working fine but it has only the old backup data. Now i am tryiing to take a new back up from my iphone4 & then try n plug my new iphone5s but it doesnt help. 25% of my contacts have gone missing my mails are not working & few of my latest messages have also gone missing.

First step is upgrade to Snow Leopard, 10.6, by calling Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE and order the SL DVD for $20.  Then update on-line via software update to 10.6.8.  If you want to go further, to Lion, you can purchase a download code for $20 from that same number and download 10.7.5, or go directly to the Mac App Store and purchase/download 10.8.2 provided your computer is on the compatible hardware list at http://www.apple.com/osx/specs

  • My Home pg. says I'm not using the latest version-- Firefox says I am.

Mozilla Firefox is my Home pg/browser. It says I'm not using the latest version. But when I go to the Firefox pg to download the latest version, they say I'm updated ok. My computer's list of programs also says I'm using version 9.0. After downloading Mozilla 5 + times, my home pg still says I'm not on the latest version. Is it because the OS is Windows 7 starter?

    Hi deeweev,
You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. That page is no longer being maintained by Google.
You should try changing your home page to:
    about:home
If you don't know how to change the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
    Hopefully this helps
