Nsurlsessiond wants to connect to Amazon S3

Hi forum.
My Little Snitch tells me that nsurlsessiond wants to connect to Amazon S3. From what I know (which is not too much), nsurlsessiond has got something to do with iCloud. And Amazon S3 is some kind of cloud storage at Amazon. What does this mean – does iCloud buy storage space at Amazon or what? Should I allow the connection or not?

Now Little Snitch tells me that imagent also wants to connect to Amazon S3, and that seems to have to do with iMessage images for some reason being stored at Amazon or relayed that way. Interesting that Apple seems to have this deal with Amazon.

  • Does the later 2009 MacBook support the Apple DVI to Video Adapter (s-video). I want to connect it to an old tv which does not support HDMI. Any suggestions?

I have a late 2009 MacBook which I want to connect to an old LG tv. The tv does not support HDMI it only has the (red, while, and yellow) ports. Sorry I dunno the exact name for it.
So I was thinking of using the Apple Mini DVI to Video Adapter (s-video), link below...
    http://store.apple.com/Catalog/dk/Images/M9319_screen.jpg
But I'm afraid that the MacBook might not support the adapter.
Can anyone give me a solution for this? Is there an alternative way of doing this? I'm kinda new to apple display adapters.

The Late 2009 model 6,1 has a Mini DisplayPort not the Mini-DVI. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When the System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.
Composite is the name for the red, white and yellow RCA plugs on your TV or red, white and S-Video plugs. If you want to use the Composite input on your TV there’s no Mini DisplayPort to Composite. You’ll have to get a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_19?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field -keywords=mini+displayport+to+vga&sprefix=mini+Displayport+to and a VGA Adapter to TV S-Video RCA Out Cable for PC Video. http://www.amazon.com/VGA-Adapter-S-Video-Cable-Video/dp/B000Y7T5UU/ref=sr_1_7?s =electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1316369974&sr=1-7
Only the Yellow plug or the S-Video plug for video will work. For sound you'll also need audio cables to the TV using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate input plugs on your TV  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=min i-dvi&x=9&y=13#/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_19?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=macboo k+audio+cable&sprefix=macbook+audio+cable&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amacbook+audio+cable

  • I want to connect a Mac mini to a Samsung 40", Whats the best way to do this?

I want to connect a Mac mini to a Samsung 40" LED tv to use as the monitor, whats the best way of doing this?

Understand that there is one HDMI port on your TV that is specifically designated for PC connectivity. The order that the TV or Mini are powered on may determine your results. For your specific TV model, check buyer reviews on Amazon or elsewhere that can include optimum TV/Computer settings adjustment for improved viewing results.

  • Connecting to Amazon Redshift from SQL Server Reporting Services

    Hey all,
Just a general question for now as the company I work for is looking to migrate our current data warehouse from SQL Server 2008R2 to Amazon Redshift.  Currently all of our reports on our intranet are SQL Server Reporting Services reports and
I have been tasked with finding out whether or not we can connect SSRS to Amazon Redshift.  I see that Amazon Redshift is a SQL data warehouse and uses industry standard ODBC and JDBC connections and PostgreSQL drivers so many popular software vendors
are certifying Amazon Redshift with their offerings to enable tools to still access RedShift.
If SSRS can connect to Amazon Redshift, can you also advise me on how this can be done so I can begin playing around with it.
    Cheers

    Hi there,
You might want to try the Windows AMIs.
    http://aws.amazon.com/windows/amis/
For local access, you'll probably need to install 32-bit & 64 bit Postgres drivers on the server & developer machines.
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17323590/redshift-with-ssis-ssdt
    http://michaeljswart.com/2013/03/checking-out-amazon-redshift/
Then you'll need to configure connection strings in your data source and test.
    http://docs.aws.amazon.com/redshift/latest/mgmt/configuring-connections.html
    cheers,

  • I have 10.5.8 macbook with a firewire and want to connect to my Sony Camcorder 2005 iLINK.  What adapters do I need?

I have 10.5.8 macbook with firewire and want to connect to my sony camcorder 2005 iLink.  I believe they are both 4 pin and need male connecters.  Can anyone help me?

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info, then select Firewire from the left hand column of the System Profiler.  If it says "Maximum Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec" then this is the cable you need http://www.amazon.com/Cmple-IEEE-1394-FireWire-iLink-Cable/dp/B00403TH0C/ref=sr_ 1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1311376173&sr=1-8
If it says "Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec" then post that back here.

  • I just purchased an iPod Nano (Red) and want to connect to my truck's speakers.  There is no built-in direct port.  What is the best product to buy to make that connection?

I just purchased an iPod Nano (Red) and want to connect to my truck's speakers.  There is no built-in port to connect.  What is the best product to purchase in order to make a connection?  Thx, Robert

Your truck's audio system may not have a specialized docking port for iPods, or a USB port, but does it have a standard "auxiliary" audio input port?  It would look like headphones jack on the iPod.  If so, you can use a cable like this
    http://www.amazon.com/Monster-iCable-Player-Auxiliary-Input/dp/B002AR5XIK
to connect your iPod's output to the car's audio.
Otherwise, if your audio system is old enough to have a casette tape player, you can get a device that looks casette tape with a cable coming out of it, and play your iPod through the casette tape player.  The other way is to get a device for the iPod that sends the audio, through a low-power radio transmitter, to your car's radio (at a frequency that is normally not used by local radio).  From my experience, neither of those methods work well, in terms of maintaining full audio quality.

  • Hey guys. I want to connect my MacBook to my Samsung television and don't know what cable to purchase. It's a five year old machine and I presume a fairly simple solution but would appreciate it if someone could link me up to the correct cable to buy.

Depends on what input plug you'll be using on your TV. VGA, DVI, Composite or HDMI. You'll need a Mini-DVI adapter and a cable from that to your TV. Here's the various types of Mini-DVI adapters on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=min i-dvi&x=9&y=13
(Composite is the red, white and yellow RCA plugs on your TV or red, white and S-Video plugs.)
You'll also need audio cables to the TV using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs for VGA, DVI or Composite. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate input plugs on your TV http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=min i-dvi&x=9&y=13#/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_19?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=macbo o k+audio+cable&sprefix=macbook+audio+cable&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amacbook+audio+cable
If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.

  • Hey Guys, from Germany. I want to connect my iMac 21" with my Tv just for fun. Does anyone know, how it works. With a Hdmi adapter?

Hey guys! I want to connect my Imac 21 " with my Tv just for fun. Does anyone know , how it works?

Selecting the correct adapter and cable depends on which year model iMac you have and what inputs the TV has?
Check the User's Guide that came with your iMac or your Spec's at > Apple - Support - Technical Specifications
to see if your iMac has a Mini-DVI or Mini DisplayPort and then select that adapter with the correct connection for the TV.
Example: if you have a 2010 or 2011 iMac and an HDMI ready TV, then you would want the > Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support - Apple Store (U.S.)

I want to connect my Mac Book Pro to the internet in France without any wifi connection available? Mi Fi? Sim card? All we have is a phone signal in this rural French location. I want to be able to Skype to states from there. We have a friend with a 3G ipad who uses an Orange sim card to do it. I would rather not have to buy an Ipad.
    thanks

I found out that the data package for one month useage with MiFi is 1G. How many minutes of online time does that correspond to?

Assuming your MBP is a recent model, i.e. bought in the last couple of years, and that your TV has HDMI inputs (if you've bought it new then that's a safe assumption) then you need a mini-displayport to HDMI cable.  The Apple Store sell one:

I want to connect my MacBook Pro (2009) with Apple TV
I updated my Mac to Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)
I had tried connecting my Mac for many time but I could not.

    Read this link.  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404
2009 MBP is not supported for native AirPlay Mirroring.  Sorry.
There are a couple of other pay-for apps that do this, but they're not as good... some people have had success.

I want to Connect my Mac Mini as a Slave to a Mac pro Server while at the same time using the Mac mini's thunderbolt ports peripherals ( ie monitor, Sound Card, Hard drives) Creating a poor man's new mac Pro. Can this be Done?

Well, I really would love the new unreleased mac pro however , I'm not sure of the expected cost , Everyone speculates from $3,000 to $8,000, in which I may have to wait a while to purchase.
To the point .... I want fully functional thunderbolt ports to be on the current mac pro's .... wonder if anyone had workarounds yet?...  or could I chain the the current mac pro to a mac mini to make that happen?

I need to know which MacBook Pro you have.  Only mid-2010  and later MBP's transmit sound through MiniDisplay Port to HDMI.  I have no information about the Mac Pro, so you might want to go to that Forum and ask there.
