NullPointer when getting pageFlow bean from backingBean

Hi,
I use JDev11g - full ADF stack.
In the backing bean of a page, I use this method :
    public QueryFilterBean getFilterBean() {
        FacesContext fc=FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
        return (QueryFilterBean) fc.getApplication().getExpressionFactory().createValueExpression(fc.getELContext(), "#{viewScope.QueryFilterBean}", QueryFilterBean.class).getValue(fc.getELContext());
    }to create an instance or get the current instance of a pageFlow bean. This code belongs to a backing bean that is registered in adfc-config.xml, so is the pageFlow bean. And I use faces-config.xml for navigation rules between jspx.
So the code behaves nicely on integreated weblogic. But I get a NullPointerException when deployed to our production server, when backing bean processes this code :
    public ArrayList<String> getActualWhereClauseMap() {
        if (getFilterBean() == null) System.out.print("filter bean null ;");
        if (getFilterBean().getActualWhereClauseMap() == null) System.out.print("where clause map bean null ;");
        return getFilterBean().getActualWhereClauseMap(); // NULL POINTER IS THREW HERE
    }I read that you should register pageFlow scope in task-flow definition ; but I don't use task flow.
Regards
Luc-

Hi,
you are not using the pageFlowScope but the view scope, which is shorter and changes with the page or view

  • Problem when calling session bean from main.

    Hi everyone
    I get the following error when calling a session bean from main(String args[]).
    Sep 3, 2008 9:11:13 AM com.sun.enterprise.appclient.MainWithModuleSupport <init>
    WARNING: ACC003: Application threw an exception.

    at databasetest.Main.main(Main.java:26)
    Here is my code beneath.
    I'm using netbeans and glassfish application server.
    Everything is in the same project, called DatabaseTest, I also have deployed the application before running the client.
    I'm running the client as follows, right click on the DatabaseTest-app-client and select run.
    The client:
    package databasetest;
    import com.test.UsersFacadeRemote;
    import javax.ejb.EJB;
    import com.test.Users;
    public class Main {
        @EJB
        private static UsersFacadeRemote usersFacade;
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Users users = new Users(12, 34);
            usersFacade.create(users);
    }The remote facade I'm calling:
    package com.test;
    import java.util.List;
    import javax.ejb.Remote;
    @Remote
    public interface UsersFacadeRemote {
        void create(Users users);
        void edit(Users users);
        void remove(Users users);
        Users find(Object id);
        List<Users> findAll();
    }The stateless bean:
    package com.test;
    import java.util.List;
    import javax.ejb.Stateless;
    import javax.persistence.EntityManager;
    import javax.persistence.PersistenceContext;
    @Stateless

            em.persist(users);
        public void edit(Users users) {
            em.merge(users);
        public void remove(Users users) {
            em.remove(em.merge(users));
        public Users find(Object id) {
            return em.find(com.test.Users.class, id);
        public List<Users> findAll() {
            return em.createQuery("select object(o) from Users as o").getResultList();
    }

    looks like you're banging your head against the same brick wall as [I have done|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=13&threadID=5317110] and [others have in the past|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=136&threadID=5259913] if that's any consolation.
    Funny thing is, mine did actually work in the debugger but not when running!
    Strange thing that.
    I did initially interest someone from the developers but they couldn't really help, ended up saying : try instantiating your beans the EJB 2.1 way and see where that gets you. Yes that works but they promised us "hey no more dopey xml deployment descriptors just some cool annotations" didn't they?
    I've got the feeling were' missing something really obvious!

  • Unable to use Class Designer when deriving Entity Bean from another class

    I have several Entity Beans that have common fields. In order to maximise reusability, I have defined a base class which contains these common fields and corresponding get/set methods on these fields.
    In the next step, I build an Entity Bean using JDeveloper. I then go to Source Editor and in the Bean class, modify the Java code to inherit from this base class that I have defined. I then try to go to Class Designer expecting to see the inherited fields as well.
    However, this is the error I get :
    "Error while trying to parse source file...."
    Any pointers on resolving this would be a great help ! Thanks !!!

    If you're running >Java 1.4, you'll need to put your classes into a package since Tomcat can no longer import the class 'BeanProdess' which is in an unnamed namespace.
    Your JSP is compiled into a class (in the package org.apache.jsp) that doesn't recognize anything in the default package.
    Here's a reference if you want to read about this.

  • Error in cfqueryparam, when getting date field from cfpop

    Hi all,
    i'm taking data from cfpop to store them in the database.
    There are problems with date data:
    INSERT .....
    POST_DATE = <cfqueryparam value="#date#"
    cfsqltype="cf_sql_timestamp">
    But it fails in some situations, for instance:
    The cause of this output exception was that:
    coldfusion.runtime.locale.CFLocaleBase$InvalidDateTimeException:
    "19 Sep 2006 00:51:33 +0200" is an invalid date or time string
    Ok, I'm using English locale and tried to use
    ParseDateTime(date, 'pop'). But it doesn't work either (!):
    "19 Sep 2006 00:51:33 +0200" is not a valid date format. But
    'pop' supposes, that this is format with time zone offset!!
    P.S. The problem was that some email messages had incorrect
    date format: one didn't have a day of week, another one - even day
    of month!!!
    To make life simpler, i've just added a regexp check:
    <cfif
    ReFindNoCase("[A-z]{3}\,\s[0-9]{2}\s[A-z]{3}\s[0-9]{2,4}\s[0-9]{2}:[0-9]{2}:[0-9]{2}\s(?: \+|\-)?[0-9]{4}",
    date, 0)>
    <cfset dateField = date>
    <cfelse>
    <cfset dateField = now()>
    </cfif>
    I'm not going to parse every possible date format
    error.

    I don't believe there's anyway to have Access ignore it on an import. What you can try instead is link to the file (instead of importing it) and write a query that updates the table based on the linked table, with an appropriate edit on the date/time field.

  • How to remove Bean from session upon leaving the web page?

    Hi...
    I got the following problem
    I promote a user with a Datatable filled with data, each time the user enters the webpage with the table I go the DB and retrieve all relevant data again (so each time the user gets an OnLine representation of the DB)
    to archive that I defined the bean that pulls data from DB in Request scope. and it worked well... but now i added an option to export the table into Pdf made by a servlet.... now to be able to get the bean from the servlet i had to change the scope of the Bean to Session Scope... and all works fine.. BUT... now the page not showing OnLine representation of the DB.. cause its only created once , cause its inside Session Scope...
    My question is how can I remove the Bean from Session scope upon the user leaving the page (I don't want to remove the bean from session scope on the next called bean of the other page) i want to remove the Bean upon leaving the current web page... Or maybe force the constructor to be executed each time the Page is loaded (as if it was a Request scope bean)....
    Any ideas?
    Thanks ahead!
    Daniel.

    Hi,
    When you are moving to another page, you are performing an action right ?
    (i mean the request moving to Server side), if you do so, then clear the bean object values list.
    for example :
        private List<Integer> intList = new ArrayList<Integer>();
      public void clear()
       intList.clear();
    or
    store a new object in session, when ever u moved to the second page, so that the old object will be no longer
    in use, so it will be garbage collected.Regards,
    Sathya.

  • Unable to get the selected from table when AM Pooling is disabled

    Hi,
    I have created a EO and VO for EMPLOYEE table and dragged on to pagefragment as ADF table. RowSelection property is set as Single.
    It is displaying the data in the table. I have written below method which should be invoked on selection of a row.
    It should give the Firstname and LastName column values of the selected row.
    public void onSelectTable(SelectionEvent selectionEvent)
    RowKeySet selectedEmps = getEmpTable().getSelectedRowKeys();
    Iterator selectedEmpIter = selectedEmps.iterator();
    DCBindingContainer bindings = (DCBindingContainer)BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    DCIteratorBinding empIter = bindings.findIteratorBinding("EmployeeVOIterator");
    RowSetIterator empRSIter = empIter.getRowSetIterator();
    while(selectedEmpIter.hasNext()){
    Key key = (Key)((List)selectedEmpIter.next()).get(0);
    Row selRow = empRSIter.getRow(key);
    String firstName = selRow.getAttribute("FirstName").toString();
    String lastName = selRow.getAttribute("LastName").toString();
    This method is working fine.
    But I have disabled the Application Module Pooling and tried in local machine(AM Configuration -> Pooling and Scalability -> Uncheck Enable Application Module Pooling).
    Then it is not workinng. it is returning null to selRow. Ideally it should work.
    Can any one pls suggest why it is not working when Application Module Pooling is disabled?
    Regards,
    Vinod

    Which jdve version do you use?
    What is the whole use case?
    I don't understand why you make it so complicated when the framework gives you what you like fro free. If you leave the selectionListener like it was when you dropped the table onto the page the framework handles the selection for you. If you like the name and first name of hte selected row you can drag the name, firstname from the VO onto the table (even if you don't want to see it, dorp it an e.g. inputText) and drop it onto the page. This will create the needed binding for you in the pagedef file. as you don't want to see the inputtext components switch into source mode for the page and remove the components. Removing components in source mode will keep the bindings, whereas if you remove them in design mode the bindings are removed too.
    Now, if you select a row in the table, the attributes for name, firstname automatically getting the correct values assigned.
    If you like to get to them from a mangaed bean you should read http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/23-generic-table-selection-listener-169162.pdf which shows you how to first use the default selectionListener and then do something else with the row (if you like).

  • How to get specific rows from the vo or Iterator in the backing bean?

    Hi,
    I have to get the specific number of rows from iterator in the backing bean. means i want to get the records from the VO or Iterator only from 5 th record to 10th record its like rownum in SQL.
    We can use rownum in VO sql query. but there would be a performance issue with that ...
    SO i am trying to get the rows from ADF Iterator once we fetch from DB.
    Is it possible to do that ?
    Do we have any way to set the pointer to the VO/Iterator like setFirst() and after that setMaxResult to retrun the rows between first and maxresult..
    Thanks

    If this is for pagination, then af:table offers pagination by design when you set accessmode=RangePaging or RangePagingIncremental in VO. Paginated queries are fired when scroll down in the table. Explore this option before you try out any custom solution
    To answer the question,
    Note: same logic i have implpemented ADF with EJB ..In EJB Query class we have setFirst(int) and setMaxResult(int) methods...simply i did setFirst(30) and setMaxResult(10)..It worked fine...Theoretically speaking the same can be achieved by setting setRangeStart() on the viewobject(which in turn sets to the default rowset) and by setting max fetch size on VO + accessmode=RangePaging. However when you use table with ADF binding, these will be overridden by the binding layer. If you are not using ADF binding, then the above is same as what you did for JPA entity. Other option is, you build expert mode VO with rownum for this special case, which will work if you dont need to set accessmode=RangePaging for VO.

  • When does a bean get initialised?

    Hi,
    I am a bit confused at the moment, and the more I think about it, the more confused I get! Here is the scenario....
    Some details - it is a JSF application using JSPs and JSF Components. I am using JDeveloper 1.3.2 and Oracle 10g DB.
    I have a page (login.jsp) that calls a method in the LoginBean when the user clicks the Login button. This then goes off to the DB and retrieves the user's data (if he/she exists). If successful, the user is navigated to the welcome page. At this point I wish to display the user's details (EmployeeBean) - which are stored in another table, and so will require a query to the find the user's details based on their user_id (retrieved when logging in).
    My question is - when/how can I populate the Employee bean. Do I need to explicitly create the Employee bean (with new EmployeeBean()) or does the faces-config.xml sort this out. How can I 'tell' the application that when the welcome.jsp page is loaded I want/want to have populate(d) the EmployeeBean with the relevent details.
    If this requires further info, please tell me and I'll add to it!
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    You can use a session bean (the LoginBean or an other) that retrieves an EmployeeBean entity bean from the database if the id is given. You should call this method from the welcome page and display the data of the retrieved entity bean.
