Hi , I am new to Webcenter, after depoying portlet on weblogic using Jdeveloper, while accessing the url i am facing the following error,
Any help appreciated.

I have 2 simple portlets on a Web Center page.
I've added these at design time - the source JSPX shows
<adfp:portlet value="#{bindings.Portlet41_1}" id="portlet1"/>
It does not populate the required attribute portletType when I add this.
The page definition file shows

Am I missing an entry in any file?

Yannick - I have tried that exact sequence you've described. This is as per the tutorial.
It works intermittently when added via Design time - on some occasions - it gives the "Portlet bindings are null for portlet component portlet1" error. Other times, it shows the Hello World correctly.
When I see the error on screen, there is no stacktrace in the logs. I restart and it may (or may not) go away. Sorry - I dont have more pinpoint info than this.
My code is as in the first post - dragged and dropped ADFportlet from WSRP Producer, and the basic bindings were generated.
Now if added at runtime - it shows me the correct portlets via the Resource Catalog.
When I try to add, it just hangs for a very long time, without adding the portlet into the PanelCustomizable.
It adds other ADF components like Textbox properly
If I try Adding the portlet, or Adding a box below the panel or any operations more than once it gives this error

Error in Application log SCOM mgmt server 25934 Credentials are null for user

Hi, We recently started getting errors like the one shown below on one of our SCOM management servers.
Any thoughts on what might be causing this and why this shows on a scom server. There is no VMM stuff installed on this SCOM server.

If agent is installed on the VMM server, it will collect the information and send it to SCOM server. The event indicates the SCOM agent tried to access the registry key that was included in the User Profile but failed.
Please specify a local account or domain account as the SCOM action account for a test.

Widgets as the clientside component for portlets

I am working for a product which is an enterprise level application. We are in the process of migrating from thick client application to a browser based portal like application which user will be able to customize. User should be able to customize a tab by adding various portlets/widgets(still havent been able to decide). We are thinking to go by JSR 286 specification and develop a portlet application and then develop a portal with our own features using open portal portlet container.
Can we use widgets at the client side for the portlets.
Can we integrate widgets on to a J2EE portal. Do we need to implement a widget container for that. Are there some open source implementaions available for this
Are widgets suitable for enterprise applications or is there any advantage of using widgets instead of div or iframe to show the contents of a portlet
Or widgets calling servlets or some MVC classes instead of portlets is a better design

Anyway a gadget (gadget does not mean anything either unless it is used in context in this case google gadgets) like the ones on google could do anything. Odds are they are nothing but a bunch of Div's with ID and the javascript libraries to manipulate them. The content of the div can be anything a webpage, a form, iframe, jsp, asp, what ever. The client side calls are made to any url thus any server to populate the div. A portlet's content could be made up of anything.
My company used IBM's WebSphere Portal for several years. We had nothing but problems with it. We canceled all projects using it and are now only supporting what was developed. We stopped using it at version 5. We found it to be to bloated for what we needed and have rewritten most applications just using Tomcat. The performance difference is remarkable and so is the simplicity of the applications. I do not know if any of the open source portal projects would be any better.
I would definitely use a formal Portal if my company was in the business of writing software for portals or my company was going to spend the money to use third part applications developed for the portal.
I know apache is doing somework on developing a gadget container(shindig). Can we use that as the conatiner for running our gadgets which will communicate with portlets at the server sideHere you are making a comparison that does not make a lot of since. I know portlets can be turned into a service which would make your statement accurate but at it's core a portlet is a container. In a portal a web page is made up of one or more portlets. Each portlet is a mini application. Portlet, gadget, and widget are synonyms for ways to combine information or application functionality from one or more systems on to the same screen.

I have installed OAS 10.1.3.1 on RHEL 5.4 64 bit m/c when after deploying the application when i tried to access the application through portlet i am getting the following error

The browser's back button doesn't work for portlet navigation

I developed a simple portlet that uses webflow navigation to navigate within a
portlet. I made this portlet visible on a portal's home page. When I view my
main portal page, the URL is "http://localhost:7501/samplePortal/index.jsp "
In this page I can see my portlet. When I click on a link inside of the portlet,
it takes me to the page I want. Then, when I click the browser's back button
to go back to the previous page(main portal page), it doesn't work. The URL changes
back to "http://localhost:7501/samplePortal/index.jsp", but portlet itself doesn't
take me to the previous page. Anybody have any ideas? I am guessing it's because
the wfevent is null, but how do I resolve this problem?

I was able to get the back button to work for portals by commenting out the following
lines in the portal.jsp:

// response.setDateHeader("Expires", 0); // prevents caching at proxy
I also made sure my browser was set to allow the caching of pages.
You are having problems, because we set the response headers to tell the browser
to not cache the portal pages, and the portlet state has not changed back to it's
original state.

Cannot publish a folder in my content area as a portlet

All,
Has anyone out there experienced or encountered the following problem depicted below. If yes, please let me know what you did or what steps/procedures you implemented to resolve this problem.
1. Go to content area an click the "Edit Folder" link.
2. Click the "Create Folder" link an select "container" as your folder type.
3. Click the next button and enter your folder display name and internal name. Leave the Category combo box as is General).
4. Click the finish button.
5. Edit the new folder.
6. Under the "Portlet Properties" section, set the "publish as portlet" checkbox.
7. Click the "Apply" or "Ok" button.
When I click the "apply" or "Ok" button, I receive the following error message:

In the Catalog, select the folder for the report(s) you want to update in the Folders pane. It should then appear in the Tasks pane (bottom left) with some options.
Select 'Permissions' and make sure that 'Hidden' attribute is unchecked. That worked for me.
There's also a 'Show Hidden Items' check box at the top right of the Catalog area that should be checked to view the filters in the Catalog area (rather than when ediiting a report).

Urgent: Parameter problem for portlet displaying jsp running inside tomcat

Following jsp when run with portal 9.0.2 displays value of Name and Age but value of Telephone parameter is displayed as Null. Can anybody tell me the reason?

Define Style for portlet region

Hi,
I want to 2 portlets on a part of the page and they should have a different background.
but when "portlet" in the region attributes is selected only a preview of the style
is given but i can't select an other one.
I need another color there because its part of the navigation and it looks nicer when there are no white gaps.
How chan I set this ?

I am not sure which version you are using, but I know that in rel. 2 you can define diferent style from region to region that contains items, but the style that reflects portlets is always applied for the page not the portlet itself. You can not change the portlet style on the region settings. That means, that you can not have 2 different styles on portlets on one page. That's atleast how I understood it, since I wanted to have different background colour on portlets myself.

Support for Portlet API

Does the BEA Portal Server support portlets written
to the proposed Portlet API?
Specifically, I've played with Jetspeed before
and have some portlets for Jetspeed. How easy
is it to port those portlets to the Portal Server?
From what I've gone through so far with the Portal
Server 7 sampleportal site and looking through the
sample code, it seems to be very different from
what I'm used to in Jetspeed.
I would appreciate any pointers on documentations
geared more for developers. While the tutorials
are useful, they are a bit light on customization.

I doubt it since the Portlet API isn't finalized yet, so BEA's API (along
with others) is still very proprietary.
My best guess is that it won't be compliant untill one release version after
the spec has been completly finished and accepted. 1-2 years? And that is
if BEA decides to conform to the spec at all.

The following is from one of the sample portlets (comments incl):
Display the content of the portlet in the show mode.
Use the wwui_api_portlet.portlet_text() API when generating the content of the portlet so that the output uses the portlet CSS.

I assume this is what you are looking for--the level would be the Portlet Text level, and you could substitute a parameter.

Request Scope for portlets? Sharing data tutorial does not work for portlet

I created 2 identical applications, one that was a regular JSF web app, and one a JSR168 portlet. By following the "Sharing Data Between Two Pages" tutorial, I can get this technique to work without a problem in the web app, but the portlet (deployed locally using the pluto server) does not work. What is the difference between a regular app and a portlet app?
This shows that portlets apparently handle scope much differently than other applications, so any information relating to this would be helpful to pass along.

Portlet Life Cycle Differences
A portlet page is the same as a web application page in the Creator 2 application
model with differences only in the page life cycle. To best understand the life
cycle differences, you must first understand how a portal interacts with a portlet.
This interaction between portals and portlets is defined by the JSR-168 Portlet
specification. Typically a portal display in the web browser shows multiple
portlets. That is, when the portal page is displayed, there are actually multiple
portlets displaying or rendering their content. The job of the portal is to manage
how these portlets are displayed. Internally, the portal is responsible for telling
each portlet two things:
1. When to display itself
2. If there has been an action, such as a button press, performed inside that
portlet.
When a portal wants portlets to display their contents, the portal sends a render
request to each portlet showing in the portal. If one of the portlets showing in the
portal has a button tied to an action request, when that button is pushed, the
portal fires an action request for that portlet. In addition, the portal generates a
render request for the portlet and all other portlets on the page. You should note
that the portal implementation fires both action and render requests for each
action method on a portlet showing in the portal. The implication of this
interaction means the portlet page being rendered can not make assumptions
about the state of the values to be shown. Unlike a normal web application page,
a portlet page can't assume that the page being rendered in the Render Response
phase is the same page that was built in Restore View. If a portlet wants to
maintain state across repeated render requests, the portlet must use the session
bean to store stateful information.
The main point to remember is a portlet page must always be prepared to render
it's values from scratch or session data. This implies you should never bind
portlet page UI components to page bean properties or request bean properties.
Also, you should never rely on page bean instance variables that might be set
during an action event.

Anybody knows that how to Allowing user Customization at runtime for portlet.
What i want is to let user Customization persist to the repository. (not session). bu tmy testing accodring the Jdev 11g guide shows not working for portlet..
Any body knows how to do this for portlet ? Web center 11g

Hi Wayne,
You can only save runtime customizations to the repository for the users present in jazn-data.xml file (If you are using file based security).
You will have to do the following before you can start saving user customizations:
1. Create Webcenter Template project.
2. Apply ADF Security
3. Use page-definition files for jspx pages.
After this, whatever customizations you do, will be saved to persistence storage.
Better would be to try this on server. Since, before deploying, you run the pre-deployment tool, which will take the MDS Repository path as an input and store all persistence storage there.
If there is nothing in that location, you can be sure something is wrong and debug it.
