Number of applications per server?

Just curious... how many applications do you run per iAS? At the moment we have only one application per server, which seems like a waste of resources to me (considering the average CPU load is less than 1 %!).
And a 'side question' - do you create more OC4J:s for every added application or do you let one take care of all applications?

Hi Magnus,
it's an interesting question and i hope to see some feedback from users around the world.
Im my server (hp proliant dl580, windows 2008 , Oracle App Server 9.04, 4GB Ram) i have deployed 8 applications (planning to deploy one more till end of month)
i've created 3 containers (OC4J) , one OC4J for each branch of business, ie, i'm working for an insurance company , so the distribuition is the following
OC4J A - Application for "Real" Insurance (car, houses,etc)
OC4J B - application for "Non Real" insurance (life insurance, etc)
OC4J C - other general application
Fortunatelly ,the most resource intensive application (memory, cpu , database connections) are in OC4J A and OC4J B
So, as a best pratice i advice to split applications across containers by availability and resource consuption

  • Maximum number of applications per application set

    Hello,
I know maximum number of dimensions per application is 20 in OutlookSoft 4.2.
What about maximum number of applications per application set?
    Regards,
    Hiroshi Yaji

Hiroshi - I have not encountered a technical limit on the number of applications in an appset.  As a practical reality, performance and system administration will dictate how many apps an appset may contain.
On a related note, you could theoretically have more than 20 dimensions in an app.  However, I have only worked with one client who asked (needed?) an app with more than 12 dimensions.  In that case, usability was an issue due to the complexity in submitting data to an app with that many dimensions.
    Hope that helps,

  • Trickles connection; max number of clinet per server; more services

    Dear,
I found on web something about Trickles connection. Is there some further reading about Trickles connection in Java? Is that just logical concept or it is language-oriented implementation? If it is only logical concept, I suppose it is equal to TCP connection on client side and UDP connection on server side, of course if that is possibly? Can anyone tell me something more about that? Thank you.
If I am using stateful connection between server and client, what is average number of client which server can serve - you can specify some PC configuration and give number which depends on that PC? Thank you.
If somewhere are more services which should communicate, but they are on a same PC (suppose all are written in Java). What is the best way of communication between themselves?
If you can, recommend me some very good book which can give me at least one answer on my questions. It is better, if book is available as e-book.

It's not supported in Java so you're asking in the wrong place.

  • Max number of instances per Server

    Good morning,
I've installed Oracle9i in a Windows 2000 Server with 1GB of memory. After that I've created several instances of Oracle DB. With 3 instances my server works acceptably, but after adding two mor instances I've begun to have some perfomance problems and the access speed has considerably decreased, so my question is, what is the maximum number of instances that the same Oracle server can support in order to optimize the access to the DB?
    Thanks in advance.
    Isabel

    Hi,
I am confronted with a similar problem. ie, we have got several instances on the basis of one application/one instance. I am asked to regroup all these instances to one and only one instance containing several schemas to reduce the number of servers, number of instances and on the way reduce the administrative ( dba ) tasks. As i have got some knowledge of dba, I thought of installing this instance under Oracle 10g like this : an application on its own tablespace and the backup of this tbs via rman. So when an application crashes, I can make use of TSPITR to bring the database to its initial ( stable ) status. My questions are :
1° any re-initialisation of the database will sanction all the schemas. Is there any
    way to avoid this ?
2° as different tablespaces be brought to a consistency status different in time via
TSPITR even if the controlfile happens to be the same ?
3° if I opt for UNDO management AUTO, there can be only one UNDO TBS
active at a time. As this won't render me to trouble when i need to recover
only one application ? or on performance ?
Any prompt reply will be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards.

  • Maximum number of targets per server ?

As I am currently struggling with configuring an agent and the monitoring template such that it can handle a strained server running a high number of instances, I was wondering what others are dealing with, and if I am not trying to accomplish more than is possible.
The server running the agent has some 135 instances running, and I am having big time delays in discovering new targets, configuring the credentials and seeing the correct status appear after agent restart or blackout ends. Also, the agent recycles itself when metrics cannot be collected on time (skipped) for multiple times, or APIs timeout
Anyone experience with agents on such loaded servers?

Awaiting further action from support, I am also investigating the possibility of installing an additional agent, but according to note 314310.1 (http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showFrameDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=314310.1) It is not possible, as the second agent will corrupt the repository because of being the same host ...
Or am I missing something ?

    Hello cpreasbeck,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
I was able to find the following transition guide for Xserve that provides some workload guidance to determine performance when planning a server deployment.
    Transition Guide Xserve
    http://images.apple.com/xserve/pdf/L422277A_Xserve_Guide.pdf
On page 9, Performance there is a chart that provides maximum numbers of connected users for various activities such as file sharing, mail, web, calendar, directory services and Time Machine and the CPU used as a server (Xserve, Mac Pro, Mac Mini). This information is a bit dated as the referenced software is Snow Leopard Server (OS X 10.6), and the hardware is older also, but it should give you a general idea of what you might need to look for.

  • Change port number of application server

    Hi members,
I have installed oracle application server 10.1.3 on a windows 2003 server. The default port that it is listening on is 8888. Is there a way to change the port number? Can you please tell me the procedure? Also, how can I change the port number of Oracle HTTP Server? It is installed on a different machine..
    Thanks in advance..

Yes you can change both your OC4J and OHS ports. Refer following for details:

  • Maximum number of domains per physical server

I am curious as to whether or not there is a maximum number of domains per physical server. Is it just based on resources, i.e. memory, hdd space, etc. or does Oracle have it's own specific recommendations? I realize, as implied, that one could put a number of vm's on a server that would utilize the server ram up to an amount reserved for the OS.
Just wondering if there is a recommendation.
By the way, we are running WLS (10.0MP1) and OSB (3.0) on top of Win2K3.
    Thanks for nay info,
    Todd

Typically it depends on the resources.
If the WLS instances are heavily utilized, at some point having more JVM's than the number of cores impacts performance if the apps are CPU bound. Similar applies for apps that use a lot of memory or sessions. There is no blanket answer and there is no hard and fast limit.

  • How to find the number of records per months  in cube

    Hi,
how to find the number of records per months for my all cubes?
Can i use the ListCube transaction to find totl number f records per cube monthwise ?
    Jimmy

    Hi,
Here is a program to generate no of records and list of ODS and Cubes in Active version.Schedule this program in background and create a cube to load this information and schedule to the data from the file generated by the program. Schedule this all per you requirement.
1.Copy the code into your Z<programname> from Se38.
2.change the FILENAME in CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_DOWNLOAD' in the program to the location from where you can pick the information to load data to cube(eg Application server).
    3.Save program.
4.Schedule the program in background as required
5.Create cube with infoobjects to hold no of records and Infoprovider name
6.Load this cube based on event after the program job is done.
Hence you can report on this cube to see no of records in  CUBE or ODS in your box.
    Please find the code below.

  • What is the maximun recommended number of probes, rservers, server-farms

    Team,
What is the maximun recommended number of probes, rservers, server-farms, class-maps, policy-maps per context on an ACE module?
    Regards,
    John...

    John,
A practical limit on ACE module is 4k each for probes, serverfarms, class-maps & policy-maps. Rserver instances can be up to 16K. These limits represent total per system. They may exist all in a single context if desired. These numbers will vary based on specific configuration requirements.

  • Maximum number of events per audit log file must be greater than 0.

    BOE-XI (R2)
    Windows Server 2003
Running AUDIT features on all services.
Report Application Server (RAS) keeps giving the following error in the Windows Application Event Log.
Maximum number of events per audit log file must be greater than 0.  Defaulting to 500.
I am assuming that this is because the RAS is not being used by anyone at this time - and there is nothing in the local-audit-log to be copied to the AUDIT database.
Is there any way to suppress this error...?
Thanks in advance for the advice!

A couple more reboots after applying service pack 3 seemed to fix the issue.
Also had to go to IIS and set the BusinessObjects and CrystalEnterprise11 web sites to use ASP .NET 1.1 instead of 2.

Interesting. Is that really how you want to structure your server?
The behaviour I ran into was weblogic server was not able to startcorrectly,
it seems to stuck on some infinite loop, keep printing out the samemessage saying
it's trying to active xxx.jar, but as soon as I reduce the number ofEJBs to a
certain number(238) in this directory, weblogic server started correctly, deployed
xxx.jar just fine.Without more information (like showing me what error it printed out),
    I
can't tell you where the problem lies.
However, the server is limited by the heap size, and the class size
space is another limit you might hit.
I would suggest increasing the heap size as well as the MaxPermSize in
    your JVM.

I must have some odd configurable incorrect. I hope one of you can help me out and point me in the right direction.
My issue involves the "Discoverer List of Worksheets" portlet. It will display all the workbooks and I can drill in and see the worksheets, but, when I click/choose a worksheet, it will return within a couple seconds and display "No Response from Application Web Server" in bold red letters, then "There was no response from application ...", then "Please notify the site's webmaster ...". I have spent the day trying to lock down a log on the http server, j2ee, web cache and used enterprise manager to see logs which changed immediately after the error but didn't seem to find much.

    hi,
i also got the same error on my IE when i want to run VPE Workbench 5.6
    the error :
No Response from Application Web Server
There was no response from the application web server for the page you requested.
Please notify the site's webmaster and try your request again later.
The error came up after i update the windows server (restart server), before that everything is running fine and ok.
I dont know where the problem is. Is it because the update? or Application Server?
I try to login to WEB CACHE MANAGER with the user/password default, but i still cant login.

  • Network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server keeps reverting to user set 4

I didn't used to have this problem as far as I'm aware, but as of recently, I've noticed that if I try to download more than 4 of one thing at a time from the same site, it would fail. For instance, if I have up 5 web pages of streaming content, only 4 will load, the other 5th one will do nothing until I finish one of the others. Upon looking up some information on this, I saw that the network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server is set at "user set = 4", and if I change that number to anything else, it corresponds. If I click to 'reset' the number, it goes to the default of 6 - which is still less than what it used to be. I used to not even have a limit on this as far as I'm aware, or if I did, it was well beyond 10 and that wasn't a product of me manipulating it.
    What I'm asking is this:
    1) How do I make this so it permanently switches to a higher number? Every time I reset it to 6 or I manually change the number to something higher, once I close it, those settings go back to 4.
    2) Why is it reverting and not staying the way I change it?
    3) What's the purpose of this and why is it just recently doing it when I haven't put any new add-ons or made any other refinements to Firefox that I'm aware of?
    Any help would be appreciated

Two possible causes for it resetting to 4 that I can think of.
    # You have an add-on handing that pref and that is resetting it to 4 when Firefox is restarted.
    # That pref is set via user.js and that causes it to go to that value as Firefox starts.

  • Limit the number of session per user in the Wired dot1x environment with ISE 1.2

    Hello,
I need to check if there is any configuration/workaround to limit the number of sessions/access per user in the Wired dot1x configuration.
I need to check if this feature is available or not to solve the following scenario:
I have 2 SW ports configured to use dot1x authentication with ISE 1.2 server.
If user A connects to the 1st port and authenticated then he will placed on a VLAN based on the authorization profile.
The case, that I need to deny the same user to connect on a different machine with the same credentials.
The ISE itself does not have this feature currently,  the only feature available is to limit the number of sessions for the guest user.
Is there any workaround on the Cisco switches to solve this? Cisco WLC has this feature and for the VPN we can limit the number of sessions also from the ASA itself.
    Thanks.

limit number of session per user using wired dot1x is not available in 1.3
