Numbering the Header

Does anyone know how to in Pages 08 have the number of the page appear in the header?

    Hi Jay,
    Be aware that "Freeze Header Rows" and "Freeze Header Columns" apply only to rows and columns that are Header rows or Header columns. You can have up to five Header rows, Five Header Columns (and five Footer rows) on a Numbers Table.
    "Header rows" is a special designation. Besides being able to be frozen, Header and Footer rows are not included in formulas referencing whole columns, making it possible to place formulas such as =SUM(B) at the top (or bottom) of column B without causing a self-reference error, These designated rows are also not included in sorts of the rows in a table.

    What do you see after Menu > File > Print?
    Are you using Numbers 2.3 (Numbers '09) or Numbers 3.1?
    Please reply with a screen shot of a small part of your screen (large shots are often difficult to read).
    To take a screen shot,
    1. hold down the shift and command keys, then type 4. The cursor will change to crosshairs. Release the shift and command keys.
    2. Drag over that part of your screen then release the mouse/trackpad. A screen shot will appear on your desktop.
    3. In a reply to a message, click on the camera icon in the Toolbar above your reply and
    4. Choose File > Choose > Insert Image.
    If this does not work, Close the Insert Box (red cross on the top right) and go back to Step 3. Camera icon sometimes needs a wake-up call, but works the second time.
    Remove any personal details before taking the screen shot.

    Upgrade to Numbers '09, where the feature was added.
    The closest you can come in Numbers '08 is "Repeat Headers" in the Table menu, which will show the header row at the top of each page of the document as it would be printed.

    Multiple column sort is a missing feature in the new version.  Hopefully soon to return. You can do a multicolumn sort by sorting one at a time in reverse order of importance.
    For merging and unmerging cells, I select the cells and right click to bring up the contextual menu. Merge and unmerge are on the menu.  You could also create keyboard shortcuts for Merge Cells and Unmerge Cells in the Table menu.

  • Numbers '08 - Why can't I put a formula in the header row? i.e. in cell H1  =SUM(H2:H46)

    When I try to add the SUM formula to H1 and press ENTER, the formula automatically moves to every cell within column H and disappears from H1. If I instead press the Function icon then SUM, while in the H1 cell, the formula automatically moves to the last cell in the H column.

    Applying a Formula Once to Cells in a Column or Row
    When a table has header cells, you can use them to quickly apply a formula to all the
    cells in a row or column. The values in the cells are recomputed using the formula. This
    formula is called a header formula.
    To apply a header formula to cells in a column or row:
    1 Select the header cell for the column or row.
    2 Open the Formula Editor. For example, type the equal sign (=).
    3 Type the formula you want to apply to each cell in the column or row.
    For example, to assign values to the cells of column C that are five times greater than
    the corresponding cell in column B, you’d use the formula B*5 or B:B*5.
    The formula is duplicated in all the cells in the column or row. In this example, cell C4
    would contain the value computed by using the formula B4*5.
    4 Click the Accept button or press Return or Enter to save the formula.

  • In Pages '09, how do I remove the header from the first page of the document in a page layout document?

    Working Pages '09, I am trying to set up a multi-page document using page layout  (not a word processing document, because I'll be using lots of graphics and text boxes), with headers and footers, but no header on the first page, as this will be the title page. The layout>section pane has the 'First page is different' option  greyed out (because it's a word processor only option). Help tells me that each page is it's own section in page layout, but there is no way to have one page without a header and all the others with, as far as I can tell. Am I completely missing something or is there a way around this?
    Also, I want to do this again for additional chapters in the document (or else, I believe, be forced to manually start page numbering for each chapter in a new document).

    Hi, Barry. I don't know why this solution didn't work for me :-\ Does it matter that my page numbers are in the footer and not the header? When I follow your direction, the pages do get numbered differently. My problem occurs with the last step.
    1. Open the Inspector. (Check!)
    2. Click the Layout button (second from left). (Check!)
    3. Click Section. (Check!)
    4. Make the two settings shown: (Check!)
    5. Go to Page 1 and delete the contents of the Header. (When I do this, the content for all footers is deleted...)

    Click at bottom of the first page:
    Menu > Insert > Section break
    Click somewhere in the 2nd page (not the header/footer)
    Inspector > Layout > Section > Page Numbers > Start at 1 > Configuration > uncheck use previous headers and footers
    Click into the header or footer of the second page:
    Menu > Insert > Auto Page Numbers…
    If there is anything in the header or footer on the first page that you don't want just select it and delete it.
    If you really wanted to manual place page numbers on each page you will have to use a section break between each and every page. I can't imagine that would be useful.

  • How do I center the header in document setup?

    I write books and want the title of my book to appear automatically on each page and centered.  When I go to Document Setup I don't find an option for centering.  I shouldn't have to force with spaces my book title to the center.  Where are the setup features with font style, size, center, left, right, etc?

    Ok.  I figured it out.  The problem had to do with the fact that I started the book using an older version of Pages on my Mac Pro and sent it to myself then added it to my iPad.  Once there I update, edit, add-to the story then iDisk the update so I have the most current version.
    To solve the problem I went into the iPad and called up the story in Pages, copied it into memory then created a new blank document.  There I went to the Page Settings and the header/footer were quite visible, including the three cells.  In the header I added the title of the book.  In the footer I added the Page 1 of X, hit Done and returned to the blank page.  I then pasted in the entire book. 
    Now all are fine.  The title header is centered and I have very nice page numbers.

    There are a couple discussion threads on this already.  Fundamentally it is not a feature that Numbers supports.  There are several work arounds but non of theeem are great:

    For each occurrence of DEPT_GROUP, a new section is created.
    These sections can have different header/footer.
    In case, you want different values to be displayed in header/footer section(as your requirement) or you want the page numbers to be reset for each group, you can use this command.

    In Excel the text in the header row can be slanted at an angle in order to show a long header text in a narrow column. Can this be done in Numbers?

    Numbers doesn't support this directly. A quick way to fake it is to make a chart with slanted category axis labels. This won't give you slanted cell borders, but then you didn't ask for that.
    These particular instructions have an advantage over just pasting text boxes over the cells in that the same text is in the cell as in the label pasted over the cell. This may be helpful if you want to reference a header cell's content in an expression.

    In Excell it is possible to keep the column heading row separate so that when you scroll down through pages of numbers the headings are still visible at the top of the rows. Is it possible to do this in Numbers?

    Go to the "inspector"-click on the "table" icon-then "headers and footers" where you can set the number of headers or footers you want and click/unclick "freeze". You can also do that directly from the button bar on the "header-footer" buttons
