Numbers 3.5-How do I move cells?

I need to grab a bunch of cells and move them down. Does not work like Excel. Or, at the very least, add a row above these. The Insert menu does not have this option.

select the cells, then click and hold on the border of the selection, then drag to new destination.
To insert a new row (or column) use the contextual menu for the row (or column) and select the menu item "Add Column Before" or "After"
similar for rows
also you can add rows (or columns) using a key combination:
<option> + <arrow>
where <arrow> is <left arrow> or <right arrow>, or <up arrow> or <down arrow>

  • Numbers 3.1:  How do I move a table into a different sheet?

I have just decided to bite the bullet and start using Numbers 3.1.  One immediate problem I have found is to know how to move a table from one sheet into another.  It used to be simple, but now I can't find how to do it.  I have seatched Help and Tutorials, but can't find anything, and I am in a hurry.  HELP!

    Hi Mr. Jinks,
Thanks to all of you who suggested cutting the table and pasting it into an alternative sheet.  The problem I now have is that this does not work where cells are referenced by calculations in other tables
But I think links between tables can work fine if you want them to.  Here's what I see on my machine:
On Sheet 1, a formula in Table 2 referring to Table 1:
Here's Table 2 cut and pasted to Sheet 2, formula intact, referring to Table 1 on Sheet 1.
If you want the tables on separate sheets, move the table whose formulas refer to a separate source table.

  • How can I move columns in Numbers without distorting the formula in other cells?  In Excel I can cut and paste entire columns and the formula in other cells adjusts accordingly.  When I do it in Numbers, the formula messes up.  How can I do this?

How can I move columns in Numbers without distorting the formula in other cells?  In Excel I can cut and paste entire columns and the formula in other cells adjusts accordingly.  When I do it in Numbers, the formula messes up.  How can I do this?
For example: I have formulas in columns D and F that relate to columns C to CU
If I want to move one column from one position to another (say S to T), the formula loses the colums that was moved, i.e. it doesn't recognize it has moved, rather sees it as deleted...  How can I do this without distorting the formula?

    Thanks for the feedback.
If I often urge askers to look at the available resources, it's because  a large range of questions asked in the forums are already answered in these documents.
As they are PDFs, they are easy to search in.
    CAUTION
Download them while they are available.
Given what is delivered with iBooks Author, I'm afraid that we will not get such easy to use documents.
Searching infos in the  iBooks Author documentation available on line is awfully cumbersome and a lot of embedded links are wrongly flagged this way. In the Help files they aren't links but underlined strings.
It seems that the tool used to generate the web pages was wrongly configured.

  • How do i delete cells in numbers

How do I delete cells in Numbers

Delete as in "delete the contents of"?  Select the cell and hit Delete
Delete as in it goes away and other cells shift into its place? Not a feature of Numbers. You can delete an entire column or row but not a single cell.  You can select surrounding cells and move them up or over one cell, thereby overwriting the cell to be "deleted".

  • How do I "Move" in the new Numbers? And also is there still a "Categorize" in the new Numbers?

I have noticed some unwelcome changes in the new Numbers. For instance, how do I change document margins, "move" cells that contain formulas that I want to retain, and "Categorize" data in a table?

    Hi cinderjohn,
Margins - no longer there.  Numbers 3.0 is not printing oriented.
Categorize - no longer there. But you can achieve similar via SUMIFS and COUNTIFS in a summary table.
    Move - that's still there.
For more information on these and other changes see the features gained, features lost, and workarounds threads.
Your old Numbers 2.3 is still on your Mac in a subfolder within Applications called iWork '09 or similar. You can use both versions at the same time.

  • How to print selected cells in numbers

Does anyone know how to print selected cells in a Numbers spreadsheet, rather than printing the entire sheet?
Also, how to save the selected cells as a pdf file without saving the irrelevant cells?

    Hi nmygs,
    How about this?
Cell A1 is a Pop-Up Menu containing names of the various "Departments"
Other cells contain formulas to find a match for whatever is chosen in A1 from the Very Big Data Table.
    Reusable Print Me table.

In pages(not the New version) footer is over to the left, so when i put the page numbers in they don't sit right. How do i move the footer

The footer is not only to the left. To get the page number to the right you can use Format > Align right. That will make all page numbers move to the right. Is that what you want?

  • How do i lock cells in numbers

How do I lock cells in Numbers?  I'm trying to create a spread sheet that will have unused cells and I want to lock them so my associates don't accidentally fill them in and cause the finished product to look muddled.

    Wayne,
I previously could lock tables in my Numbers tables in my Spreadsheets by tapping the top left corner and it would show up as an option to lock it. As of Numbers 2.0 (noticed today), I get the option to unlock tables, but not to relock them after making the corrections.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • How do I split cells in Numbers 3.2?

How do I split cells in Numbers 3.2?

    Hey big one,
I don't believe you can split cells in Numbers 3.2. It has not been not considered a good practice because it can lead to trouble down the line. This is true about merging also. I used to do a lot of that in '09. What I have found that I can generally get the looks I am after (getting text to span multiple columns for instance) by turning off "wrap text in cell" and playing with the justification.
Hope this is in some way helpful.

Alas, the process doesn't transfer every datas.
    (1) Custom fields aren't passed
    (2) Due to localization oddities, even some standard fields aren't passed.

  • How to "lock" a cell reference in Numbers??

HELP! I am a recent convert from Windows based machines to Apple. I am very familiar with Excel and need to figure out how to do something in Numbers....
I need to know how to lock a cell reference so that when you drag the formula down or across it keeps the same cell reference. In Excel you can do this by picking the cell and then hitting F4 to either lock the column, row or both.
Anybody out there help a newbie?? Thanks

Thanks Jerrold, I'm using them that way. My request has to do with
using them as an Absolute Reference versus a relative reference.
If I specify a header ref for a cell in a formula, when I drag that
formula to some other cells I want Numbers to treat it as absolute,
ie. as if I had said $A$5. What I am finding is that it does it's default
behaviour, ie. it is translating the formula reference to a new cell just
as it would do for a reference like A5.
ie. with header references, what is the equivalent of specifying $A$5?
    ($header name doesn't work ).
    thx, rob

  • How do I move a numbers or pages document from iCloud back to my Mac desktop?

I had no trouble dragging a couple documents to the iCloud for summer travel purposes.  But now I wish to have these documents back on my iMac desktop and this is not working out to be so easy to do?  How do I get them back to my desktop only?  They don't seem to drag that way.
    Thanks,
    James

You could open each document in Pages or Numbers and use the command "File > Move to" to relocate them to a local folder on your Mac.

  • How to separate a cell in 2 rows/columns in Numbers 3.0.1

In Numbers '09, it was possible to divide cells into 2 rows or 2 columns (just by right-click on the cell).
But I can't find this feature in the new Numbers 3.0.1 ... Is it gone ?
    Thanks

This was called "split cells". There  are several threads here on that subject.  The feature was removed. We don't know if it will be brought back or not.
