Numbers-freezing columns and rows
Can you freeze columns and rows in numbers although they are not designated as headers?
FYI I was looking for information in these old posts on the Freeze function in Numbers.
After looking through numerous posts and finally talking with an Apple Tech, we found that the freeze function was not in Number 08, but added in Number 09. We were both surprised that this basic spreadsheet function was missing from 08
With this function you can lock/freeze the top row and/or column so as you scroll through the spreadsheet, you can see you first rows or columns while looking at the data in the middle of the spreadsheet.
I am not an Apple representative, but the only way to fix this and other flaws in Number 08 is to upgrade to 09 for $19.99. Hope this helps.

FREEZE COLUMNS AND ROWS IN WEB REPORT - PLEASE ADVISE ME
Hi Experts,
I have a web template that contains a query. My customer wants to freeze columns and rows in this report like we do in Excel. I know that in BW 3.5 this is not a standard feature of Table item. In forum I have found some messages regarding with this issue. I inserted a JavaScript code that I have found in forum, but this does not help. A codewriter wrote some other JaveScript for example alert(), that works but some part of taken code from forum such as defined functions do not work.
Other solutions advised in forum such as fixing row numbers or column numbers do not fix my problem.
My questions:
1 - In new version of BW, BI 7.0 have this issue with WAD in standard been solved?
2 - Does it really possible at the same time rows and columns to freeze? I want to freeze 2 rows from top, 2 columns from left.
Could anyone have an idea?
Best regards,
SongulHello,
This will be implemented with SPS13.
https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700004483762006E
And before SPS13, i frame is useful to realize what you want to do. Using 2 "Analysis" web item. and display of 1st analysis web item is restricted only thin the header of the table and the 2nd Analysis web item is used as "table". display of this "analysis" is also restricted to 10 - 30 rows.
but this consume hardware resource.

Freeze columns and rows easily
I am new to numbers and although I had some difficulties, I have yet to freeze columns and rows in a simple way as in excel. I need to find a tool to focus titles without merging cells, this is something like "Center Across Selection". There is this tool? How I can actually freeze columns and rows easily?
Numbers automatically repeats the column headers when you are in "Page View". To enable page view select the menu item "View > Show Print View".
There is no center across selection. You can add a text box which you place in front of your table that is as wide as the group of cells you wish to centered on, with the text formatted so it is centered.
I left the text box above the table, but you should move on top of like: -

Freeze columns and rows for scrolling in HTML ouput
Hi everyone!
I have an BIP report with a crosstab generating a HTML output and the table tends to get very big in the ouput, both vertical and horizatal wise, and I am looking for a way to freeze the first column when scrolling horizontally and the header row when scrolling vertically.
Is there a way to accomplish this? It would help me a lot!
Thanks,
MagnusI saw in another tread (Freeze column headers in a table and enable vertical scroll bar on the rows that this user have seen a demo of what I want to accomplish. Nothing that you are aware of?
Or, can it be done with Excel output?

Hi. I don't use spreadsheets a lot so I have a basic question. I have a spreadsheet and I'd like to "freeze" the first row as well as the first two columns. Can anyone tell me how to do it?
I think "freeze" is the right term, but I'll explain a little more in case it isn't. I want the top row to stay visible as I scroll down to see rows that are beyond the first screen. Likewise, I'd like my first two columns to stay visible as I scroll to the right.
Thanks.Header rows & column do show at the top of each page if you have print view turned on. Click the small page icon at the bottom left of the document or from the view menu (top item).

Freezing columns and rows in Web reports
Hi Gurus,
We are trying to freeze the scrolling of first two columsns and the first row for a web report. Could you please guide me how can we do this for a analysis web item.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks
RajRaj,
You can lock the headers of the table columns by selecting the table, Select the properties windows and No. of Rows scrolled at each step & No. of rows displayed.
On most monitors 25 is a good number and this allows the use jump 25 rows up / down the table view.
Hope this might help,

Transpose columns and rows in numbers
I need to transpose columns and rows in Numbers and I do not want to write script to do it. Is there an easier way?
Give me a proper transpose and I will uninstall Excel and never look back.
Ok, here's a proper transpose, that can be placed in an Automator Service so it becomes a simple menu pick as below (and can also be assigned a keyboard shortcut).
To use it (this is slightly different from Excel) you select the range you want to transpose, choose Copy Transpose, click a destination cell in an existing table in the current document or another document, and command-v (Edit > Paste) or option-shift-command-v (Edit > Paste and Match Style).
The one-time setup is as follows. In Automator choose File > New > Service, drag a Run AppleScript action from the left into the right pane, choose 'No Input' for 'Services receives selected' and 'Numbers' for 'in'. Then paste the following into the Run AppleScript action, replacing all text already there by default:
--Transpose - select range, run, paste transposed values where wanted
try
tell application "Numbers" to tell front document to tell active sheet
set selected_table to first table whose class of selection range is range
tell selected_table
set my_selection to the selection range
set first_col to address of first column of my_selection
set last_col to address of last column of my_selection
set first_row to address of first row of my_selection
set last_row to address of last row of my_selection
set str to ""
repeat with i from first_col to last_col
repeat with j from first_row to last_row
set str to str & (value of cell j of column i of selected_table) & tab
end repeat
set str to str & return -- add line return after row
end repeat
end tell
end tell
set the clipboard to str
display notification "Ready to paste transposed values" with title "Numbers"
on error
display dialog "Select a range first and then try again"
end try
--end script
Hit the compile "hammer" and the script should indent properly. Then save the service with the name you want to appear in your menu, and it will thereafter be available via the Services menu (and keyboard shortcut, if you set one up in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services).
That's it. Less then five minutes' one-time set-up work and you've got a menu pick for a transpose functionality that is as convenient as Excel's.

Can I paste and keep the same columns and rows?
Paste problems. I regularly download data from the Transport for London, Oystercard website. When I used Windows I could highlight and copy on their webpage (displayed in columns and rows) and when I pasted into Excel it pasted the data in the same format (columns and rows). With iPages when I try this it pastes everything into a single downwards column. Paste and Match style does not seem to alter this just the font etc. Am I able to paste in iPages in the same format as I copy.
I'm guessing you're using Safari to access the web site. The problem is with Safari, not Pages (no "i") or Numbers. Safari just doesn't "understand" tables in web pages & puts lots of spaces and/or returns instead of the needed tabs. I long since gave up & use Camino or FireFox for copying the tables to Numbers or any other program I want the data separated by tabs. There are some web sites, Discover Card is one, that appear to have tables but the data doesn't copy as such.

Can I swap columns and rows in Numbers like in Quantrix?
AxelHere is a new transpose script.
This one inserts formulas grabbing the contents of the original block so the transposed one reflects the changes which may be done in the original block.
It's a bit long but I post it here because it introduce some handlers allowing us to acess some interesting features.
--[SCRIPT transposeLive]
Enregistrer le script en tant qu'Application ou Progiciel : transposeLive].app
déplacer l'application créée dans le dossier
<VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
+++++++
Save the script as an Application or an Application Bundle: transposeLive].app
Move the newly created application into the folder:
<startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
Thanks to Scott Lindsey & Ed.Stockly from [email protected]
which helped me to build the code grabbing the selected range.
Select a group of cells.
menu Scripts > Numbers > transposeLive (Run the script once.)
It grabs infos about the selection
select the first cell of the destination
(can't be in the source range)
menu Scripts > Numbers > transposeLive (Run the script one more time.
It will insert formulas grabbing the transposed range.
Changes in the source one will be reflected.

Hi I am trying to create a form/spreadsheet for shift bosses at work. I want them to be able to imput certain data but I also want to lockout certain columns and rows. Mostly so the formulas aren't tampered with. Is this possible?
Also, is it possible to save to a database?
Any help would be much appreciated.dogg,
Create separate Input and Calculation tables. Lock the calculation table (Arrange > Lock), leave the input table accessible. If you don't want the calculations to be viewed during input, you can change the colors of all lines, fills and text to White before locking, and put them on a different Sheet for good measure.
Another technique that plays on Numbers graphics advantage is to cover areas of your sheet that you wish to protect with a shape. Create a Shape and place it to cover your sensitive equations. Then set the Shape's Fill Color to 0% Opacity and lock the shape. Now you have what I call the salad bar sneeze guard effect for spreadsheets. You can defeat it if you try hard, but it works most of the time.

sure wish this was easy to access in the help menu or on the web. not burried deep in a huge manual that is burried deep in the website.
For others who might read this, the corner square is called a "Table Handle"
The A, B, C row is called "Reference tab letters" and can be used to refer to columns.
The 1, 2, 3 column is called "Reference tab numbers" and can be used to refer to rows.

Transpose columns and rows / Switch columns and rows
Hello,
Is it possible to interchange columns and rows in order to create a left-to-right scrolling table instead of a top-to-bottom scrolling one?
In detail:
I have this:
| col 1 | col 2 | col 3
row 1 | | |
row 2 | | |
row 3 | | |
... | | |
...and want to have this:
| row 1 | row 2 | row 3 | ...
col 1 | | | |
col 2 | | | |
col 3 | | | |
Does anyone know if this is possible with the standard table or the ALV?
Thanks in advance & Kind regards,
RobertHi,
So there is no easy solution by just setting a flag in the ALV config!? ...too bad!
As for the dynamic creation:
Would there be an issue with different data types in one "column" (former row)? As a matter of fact there probably will be a mix of character, numbers, ...

Robert
