Numeric Field Display

I think I've run into a bug with Designer. Can anyone confirm this? Or have I overlooked something?
Situation:
I have 5 numeric fields* in my form that use simple FormCalc calculations. All of them have the Object Field Display Pattern set as $z,zz9.99.
All calculations work perfectly. However, when I was testing the form I discovered something quite odd. The display is perfect until the dollar amount exceeds $9,999.99. Once over this amount the format disappears leaving just the correct result (e.g. What should be $12,345.67 is displaying as 1234567.). I tried editing the display pattern to $zzz,zzz,zz9.99 but this did not work.
Is there a JavaScript that will give me the formatting and calculations I need? Or do I need switch something else on in Designer? Thanks.
* Calculations used:
1) sum(BlackInkCost, ColourInkCost)
2) sum(WhitePaperCost, ColourPaperCost, CardStockCost, TabCost, TransparencyCost)
3) sum(CerloxCost, SpiralCost)
4) sum(ImpressionsSubTotal, PaperSubTotal, BinderySubTotal)
5) (CostSubtotal * NoDocumentsReqd)

This would be the expected behaviour in the case of data entered into fields which do not match the pattern. This is not a bug, since you applied a pattern to display a certain number of characters and you entered something different, the pattern will fail and the form processor will leave the display as it is.
As for increasing the number of characters in the pattern, it should work. Make sure you dont have a conflict between the edit, display and binding patterns. If they are different, you may get unexpected results.
Also, if you do have a small pattern and can enter large numbers, then you should really apply some script to make sure your value is within legal limits. The rawValue of the field will always give you the pre-display pattern value.

  • Numeric fields and display values

    Hi All,
I have a few numeric fields in my form. I want to display "null" in those fields when they do not contain a value in the db i.e. whenever the fields are left blank they should display "Null" in the form but will have a Null value in the db.
Any idea on how to do this?
    Thanks.

Personally I'd have a WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger on the display items, and once the value had passed any validation I would update the database item accordingly (i.e. set db_field to TO_NUMBER(display_field) unless it's 'NULL' then set it to null). That way forms knows that the record has changed.

  • Displaying no default zeroes for the numeric field in the table display.

    hi folks,
I am binding a table in the context which has some numeric fields. I'm  displaying the same table which has some records for editing purpose. But the problem is that the numeric  field column is being displayed with zeros if it doesnot have any value in it. Can u explain how to disable the zeroes by not displaying them by defualt when there is no value for the numeric field.

  • How do I take two separate non numeric fields in a acrobat form and combine the data to display in a third separate field?

How do I take two separate non numeric fields in a acrobat form and combine the data to display in a third separate field?

You have to use custom JavScripting to concatenate the first 2 fields. You cannot use the first 2 calculation options because they force the values of the fields to a numeric value or ignore string values.
Possible scripts for the 3rd field are:
    event.value = this.getField("Text1").valueAsString + " " + this.getField("Text2").valueAsString;
    or
    event.value = this.getField("Text1").valueAsString.concat( " ",  this.getField("Text2").valueAsString);
If you do not want change the separator or not show the separator when on or the other field is empty, you will need to add more code to adjust for change.
The above scripts will also concatenate number because the field values are read as strings and not numbers.
There is also a generalized user written function to concatenate up to 3 fields with a separator that adjust for missing data.

  • Display pattern of numeric field in adobe reader ver 8 and 9.

I have added a text field to my form and have set the following properties:
    Type: Numeric field
Limit length to visible area: checked (so that it accepts upto 9 digits)
    display pattern: zzz9
    data pattern: zzz9
    data format: Integer
When I type "123456789" in the field, adobe reader version 7 and 9 are adding commas to the number and are displaying it as "123,456,789" while adobe reader 8 displays it the way i want "123456789"
Appreciate if someone can quickly provide some guidance here.

The issue is that the pattern that you are applying from the field cannot be applied to your input so the default pattern for numeric fields is being applied (hence the 123,456,789). If you make sure that your numeric field is set for integer (Binding tab/Data Format). Then set the display pattern to num{zzzzzzzz9}. It will work.
The default pattern is held in the XDP template. It is created based on your locale. If you click on the XML Source tab (between Preview and Master Pages - if it is not visible then you can make it visible on the View/XML Source menu)then do a serach ctrl-F for numberPattern you will see where it is defined in the template. If you modify this one then it will only be applied for this form. Any new forms will revert back to the old pattern.

  • Large numeric field in a .csv file will not display

A .csv file contains a numeric field which in some rows contains an 11-digit number (like 14024583126).  These will not display (blank or null).  Some of the rows contain numbers of 5-digits or 7-digits and these display fine.  How can I get the 11-digit numbers to display correctly?
I have no capability to change the .csv file to make this field type as string.  Would there be a way to convert the numeric field to string?

Thank you for the formula.  However, the string field displays just like the numeric field did.  If the numeric value in the row is a 5-digit or 7-digit number it converts to text and displays fine.  But if the numeric value in the field is an 11-digit number nothing is displayed after conversion to text.  The numeric field must have some limit on what the size can be.  How can we get around that limitation?
FYI - the data I'm trying to process is a dump of monthly Call Detail Records from Cisco's Unified Communications Manager.  The 11-digit number is a Long Distance Number like 14021234567 (ex., 1-402-123-4567).  The 5-digit numbers are VoIP extension numbers while the 7-digit numbers are local calling numbers.

  • Discoverer Report: A number field displays # when open in Desktop Edition

    Hi Guys
I have created a folder in Admin Edition. I set Default Aggregation to Detail for Numeric fields.
I have created a workbook in Desktop Edition. When I open workbook(report) it displays # in numeric fields.
    ANy idea why?
    Cheers
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay
Any format change you make inside the EUL will generally only apply to new reports.
If the report already exists it will have picked up the format as it was at the time. You will have to manually adjust the format of the column inside the report.
Before you do this these is one more thing to check. Just grab the edge of the column and make it bigger just in case this is the cause. Desktop will not display part of the number so if the width of the column is not big enough to display the number Desktop will insert # instead. If this is not the case then right-click in the column and select Format Data. Using the Number tab increase the setting.
    Best wishes

  • Null values in Numeric fields of Datasets

I am wondering if anyone has run into this problem before and
checking to see if anyone has an elegant solution.
I have a rather large data set. (actually 5 of them on a
single page) I am sorting certain columns in a table as numbers so
    i assign the variable " ds1.setColumnType("somenumbercolumn",
"number")" In most cases Spry works great and it sorts by numbers
properly. The problem is some of the fields in the XML file are
null and I am trying to sort them as a number. Spry actually
adjusts for this (as far as i can tell) and treats them like a 0
which isn't exactly ideal considering there are real zero values in
the data. I know spry doesn't currently format numbers:
So here is my question. Does anyone one have a solution to
fixing null values in a table so that it is still sortable but
doesn't display a "0" and instead displays something like "--" or
whatever. I have the option of editing the XML file as well, but I
still need the table to sort by number.
If not null values, how about non numeric fields which can
still be sorted in a numeric column?

    Hi,
We have an old post that raised a similar problem with yours.
    The post can be found
    here
For you situation, you should add an if condition for the
rows that have 0 and to add a custom string instead 0.
    for (var i = 0; i < numRows; i++)
    if(rows
    [ "field_name"] == 0)
    rows[ "field_name" ] = '--';
    Hope this helps you,

  • Connecting selection of radio button to a text or numeric field

Hi. I am using LiveCycle Designer 8.0 and I am trying to define object properties that will allow the selection of a radio button to populate in a numeric data field at the bottom of the page. I was able to write the script to have that happen with drop-down lists, but I can't figure out how to write the script for the radio button. I also don't know if the script is supposed to apply to the radio button itself or the numeric field where I want the result to show-up. Can you please help me with some sort of an example script? Thanks.

    Hi Jen,
I would recommend that you amend your workspace in Designer. You can show/hide palettes from the Window menu.
Here are some pointers (which are optional):
This is the hierarchy palette and is very handy when working with forms. You can select objects quickly and drag objects around.
This is the Object palette, which makes it easy to drag objects onto the page.
The main space with tabs for Design View, Master Pages, XML Source (you should not need this) and Preview.
You can select objects in EITHER the page or the hierarchy view and then change properties in other palettes.
The Script Editor is very important when you start to add functionality to your form. It is visible on your screen shot, but it is limited to one line in height. So I would recommend that you drag this down so that you can see a few lines of script. The Show dropdown in the Editor allows you to look at the script in various events. In the example I posted, there is script in the click event.
Object palette (and Font & Paragraph palettes). These will allow you to make changes to various properties, depending on the object that is selected.
You will see from the screenshot that you can position and stack the palettes to suite your screen and workflow.
Now, in relation to your screenshot:
You have selected a single radio button in your group. You need to select the whole exclusion group, this is easy in the hierarchy palette.
In the Object > Binding palette you have ticked the Specify Item Values (good), but you need to edit the values to match the Display Items. For example for item "$85", the specified value should be "85".
For starters, I would recommend that you open a few of the palettes and then have a look at my example and the screenshots. Hopefully that will clear it up for you.

  • Format of numeric field cannot retain via Live Office

In Webi, I changed the format of an numeric field to 2 decimal places.  When I retrieved this field to Excel via Live Office, I found the format of 2 decimal places cannot be retained.  It ended up displayed in 1 decimal places.
I found when a webi report exported to Excel, the format can be retained.
Does anyone know if this is a product design or product issue? Thanks.
    Regards,
    Gloria

    Hi Gloria,
I had a look at this in XI release 3.0 and received the same issue. The only way I could get this to work was to use the FormatNumber() method. This returns the value as a string, which live office represents with the trailing 0.
So if the cell value was 12345.6, then FormatNumber([my cell]; "#,##0.00") will display 12345.60. This will display correctly in Excel (except that it is justified as text) when brought in by live office.
This more of a work around than a fix, so you may want to raise a case.
    Regards
    Alan

  • Numeric column, last digit of a numeric field is replaced by zero

I have a annoying issue, this started when we upgraded to oracle10g and win 2k3
The code downloads the rows and loads into text file..
But sometimes the last digit of numeric field is replaced by zero.. e.g the value of field is 123.13 then will be displayed as 123.10
And again if the same code is rerun the output is correct!!!
This happens once in week, but no clue!! why it happens!!!

But the oracle server is not replaced.. it is same what it was earlier...
Only the application server is upgraded to win2003..
And started to use "Oracle in OraClient 10G.." previously used "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle".
And if its settings issue, Doesn't be happening consistantly.?

  • Numeric fields not aligned correctly in report preview

    Hi
    I have the next problem:
On my report, I aligned the numeric fields to the right of a column, but when i run the preview on ASP, the numeric fields are aligned to the left.
But when I export the report to PDF, the numbers align correctly.
I figured out a workaround to this, introducing the numeric fields into text fields, since they do align correctly. The problem is that I have too many reports to apply this workaround to all of them.
Could it be a known issue of Crystal Reports XI?
    Is there any other workaround?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Poonam
Maybe I wasn't quite explicit before,
In preview mode my report displays correctly as well. The problem comes when I run it through an ASP, which is needed for my application.
I'm running the CR version 11.5.0.313. I was asking if it could be a known issue of XI version because when I had version 9 I didn't have this problem.
It could also be that through the time, I changed something in the way the report is displayed, and didn't realize about that before, but I haven't been lucky to notice any change related.
    Thanks for your time,
    Gil

  • How to model a non key figure numeric field

I am new to SAP BI, so please acceopt my apologies if I am asking a very basic question.
I have some numeric fields which are attributes of master data. These fields are not key figures and will not be aggregated. How can I model this in BI? I have to keep them as numeric fields because they may be used in some calculations at reporting.
    Thanks!

You can display them as display attribute along with your main infoobject in query.
    or
Model it using replacement formula variable by using attribute value as in this [Help|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/03/6ba03cc24efd1de10000000a114084/content.htm] doc.
    Hope this helps.
