Numeric value to letter grade equivalent?

What formula would I enter if I wanted to convert a numeric value (summation or average) into a letter grade? For example, I would like to create a formula that would look at a numeric value, determine its range, and then assign a simple letter grade. Thus, if Cell C3 (with a numeric value) is between 70-79 then input "C", if Cell C3 (again with the numeric value) is between 80-89, "B." Any advice would be much appreciated.

you should use a lookup table to achieve this.
Create a small table (called "Grades", the table on the right) where the first row a is a header row and the grades are entered as show:
To use this table enter some grades (like I did in the column "Average", column B), then enter the formula:
C2=VLOOKUP(B2, Grades::A:B, 2, 1)
this is shorthand for select cell C2, then type (or copy and paste from here) the formula:
=VLOOKUP(B2, Grades::A:B, 2, 1)
now select cell C2 copy
select cells C2 thru the end of the column, paste

How to represent a -1 numeric value with text?

Hi All,
Question: How do I get the value of negative one (-1) in a numeric column to display as "all"?
Background: For our lottery players, they are able to opt in to various automated alerts. One column is an integer value representing one of five different thresholds for sending an alert: 10,000, 50,000, 100,000, 500,000, and -1. The -1 value
actually represents all of the other 4 values, or simply "all thresholds," meaning "send me an alert at every one of these thresholds."
What is the best way to represent the -1 value in the cube? A user won't understand that -1 is equivalent to "all choices". I could change the view so that the column is a string instead of an integer, but I assume this is going to
affect the cube in a negative way, such as unexpected sorting, etc.
I asked our resident SSAS guy if a numeric value could be displayed (not read) as "all values" while actually storing the -1 value, but all he could suggest was changing the data type and using a case statement to replace -1 with "all values."
This does not seem like a fix to me.
Is there a way to make SSAS display a negative one value as "all choices" without changing the data type of the source column itself?

Normally you would have a lookup on the number and a text value for the result displayed to users in the cube.

Error message - BSEG-WRBTR enter a numeric value

Hi,
I am having a problem with loading data using a abap program that calls RFBIBL00 program and the fb01 Transaction. The process is that the user enters the data in a excel sheet, saves as a tab deliminted txt file. The abap program reads the txt file, does some processing and submits the RFBIBL00 program with the FB01 code. When I check in SM35, it shows on the "incorrect " tab. When you display the log for the process, It is displaying "Formatting error in the field BSEG-WRBTR; see next message" and "Enter a numeric value". I am not sure where to start looking to try to correct this problem. I am tracing the abap program that submits the RFBIBL00 process and I am not finding where this is occuring. I am new to the ABAP world and I am having a hard time figuring this out. Can someone please let me know if I am proceeding in the right direction or if there is another way of solving this. I am not sure what program is generating the above error messages. If there is more information that is needed, please let me know and I will try to get it for you.

Hi,
There may be two possiblities for this issue.
1. Incorrect data passed to the field BSEG-WRBTR
2. Check the Decemial Notation(Menu Path->System->status->Own profile and Defaults Tab). If it is diffrent with the entered amount format, then it will trigger error.
YOu can run the Bach in the fouground by choosing fouground radio button option in the Pop up.

Bug in sort of numeric values in ( title and album ) string.

The Bug in the sort-function of the iPod results in mixed up track list.
An album with more then 9 tracks will be sorted in the wrong way, when only title or filename or album field is just to give a track a number. The play order is 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 2, 3 , 4 , 5, 6.... instead of the correct order 1,2,3,4,5,6...10,11, 12...
For example: After playing the track named "The Beatles - Yellow Submarine - 1 - Yellow Submarine" the ipod will play "The Beatles - Yellow Submarine - 10 - Baby, You´re A Rich Man" instead of "The Beatles - Yellow Submarine - 2 - Hey Bulldog."
The programmer have to search the string for numbers and join all numeric values to a single number.
Example: Sample data :abc123. is "a" a number? no. is "b" a number no. is "c" a number no. is "1" a number? yes. store. is "2" a number? yes. join to "1". (now we have "12"). is "3" a number? yes. join to "12". (Now we have "123") -> EOL
Is "123" largen than "99"? yes! is "123" larger than 124. no!
Thats it. In perl you need 1 line of sourcecode, in c and c++ this can be done in 10 lines. In java (there a objects for this type of sort).
And every user will be happy and nobody has to do the 01, 02, 03 workaround or reimport their audiobooks.
Alternativly Apple should thing about storing the original filename in the ID3 tag or itunes database. This would make sorting the files without id3 tags (believe me or not, there are many people using mp3 for 10 years and have no id3 tags in there mp3-library) in itunes possible. (there is a god free tagger for mac os but no for windows.)
A company like Apple should have the ability to correct the error / bug in the iPod-firmware (have the same issue in classic and iphone) or itunes-softwar.
This is a wellknown and very common error done by newbie programmers or people who have not read the documentation of the software-libraries.

I still have an H140 in the cupboard. As I recall that needs leading zeros on filenames to sort properly. Since both WMP & iTunes include leading zeros it was never really an issue. THE Rename should be able to extract the track numbers from part of the filename and is also able to generate counters, along with the usual functions of setting tag fields from part of the file and/or folder name. Unfortuanetly THE Rename is still on the complicated side - I suspect there would be no easy way to lump together the variety of options that it has while keeping it very simple.
Once you've used an external program to adjust the tags you can make iTunes re-read them just by selecting the group of files in question, using CRTL-I to "Get Info." and then clicking OK +without making any changes+. iTunes will recheck it's database against any values in the tag and update as required. Given the lack of existing tags I would imagine that you don't let iTunes reorganise your music at the moment and would suggest you keep things that way at least until you are sure that all the tags have been correctly applied and you have a suitable backup. I stick to a Artist/Album/## Track structure which I don't let iTunes manage so that I can always recover details from the filesnames if I should ever accidentally edit more tracks than I intend.

How to pass a numeric value without its format to a subsequence?

I have a sequence with a numeric parameter that is interpreted as a 16-bit bit mask. The numeric format of the parameter of that sequence is therefore "%#.16b".
I also have a Sequence Call step in a second sequence (in the same file) that calls this first sequence. That second sequence passes literal values for that bit mask in the Sequence Call. My specific problem at this point is that, while debugging, I don't see the parameters in the numeric format I explicitly specified for them, but rather in one of three possible formats:
- Literal values seem to come with a "system"-wide (maybe sequence-file-specific?) default format, which is decimal instead of binary.
- Variable values (e.g. from the Locals) have their specific (and also explicitly defined) numeric format, which can be anything instead of binary.
- If I don't pass a value but use the parameter default, this default is shown in the parameter's actual numeric format, binary. This is the only case that works as intended.
How do I get the parameters to *always* keep the numeric format I specified for that sequence?
The attached file tries to reproduce the problem and the intended result using only Sequence Calls and Message Popups. My version is TestStand 3.1f1.

I just want to debug my subsequence and see its parameter represented as "0b0000000000011010" when I supply a literal value of 26.
Ok, I try to be more explicit and show my problem using your suggestion: (The resulting sequence file is attached.)
- Create a new sequence file.
- Insert a new sequence "Sequence".
- In "Sequence", create a parameter "Parameter" of type "Number".
- Change the numeric format of "Parameter" to Binary with a minimum of 16 digits and *without radix*, ie. "%.16b". (In the other sequence file I used "%#.16b".)
-> Intention: I want to see the supplied parameter value in this numeric format when debugging or converting to a string using Str().
- Still in "Sequence", create a local "Local" of type "Number".
- Change the numeric format of "Local" to the same as above, "%.16b".
-> Intention: I want to demonstrate your way here, which actually works (I can use it as the "reference string" of the yet-to-be-defined message box), but does in an indirect way what I want to do directly using only sequence parameters.
- Insert a "Statement" step in "Sequence".
- Of "Statement", "Edit Expression" and use "Locals.Local = Parameters.Parameter" as the expression.
- Insert a "Message Popup" step in "Sequence".
- Of "Message Popup", do "Edit Message Settings", and use the following expression as the Message Expression:

- Now run the sequence file in "Single Pass" mode.
- In the first popup, you see that I get the (binary!) representation 0000000000011010 only for the local variable, but I also want it for the parameter value.
- In the second popup, you see that I get the (octal!) representation 0000000000011010 for the parameter value, which would be correct (for what I want) if I had supplied the decimal literal 26 again. You see that the binary representation is something entirely different here!

How can I force an "invisible" object to become "visible" when a numeric value is entered?

So I’m trying to force an “invisible” subform to switch to “visible” when a numeric value greater than or equal to 22 is input into a numeric field.
I can’t get the following javascript code to work properly with any event. I’ve tried the change, calculate, validate, events and a few more to no avail. The only event that kind of works with the javascript code I’m using is the validate event. When I input the code into the validateevent, the invisible subform becomes visible when an amount equal to or greater than 22 is entered, but when ANY amount is input into this field, an error message pops up that says “NumericField4 validation failed” and the user has to click “Ok” to get rid of the pop up box.

Numeric value out of range (null) - Inserting a double

Allright,
I can't figure this out to save my life.. I am refusing to put my code up because I am trying to insert into a DB Table with 140 some fields, so I will explain as best I can.. I am trying to insert a double into my DB.. I have been getting a numeric value out of range error on insertion. Just to see if it was a db problem, I shortened my query to 4 fields and two of them being the doubles for insertion. They inserted fine. So needless to say, i presumed that my insert statement for the 140 fields query was off. I double checked it and everything seems to be in order. I still get the error. I can assure that everything matches up.. my SQL string looks like this :
SQL = "INSERT INTO TABLE 1 (VAL1, VAL2, VAL3 ... VAL146) VALUES (?, ?, ? .... ?);
and my preparedStmt :

If I have a value for them, the thing gives me an error:

Numeric value variable problem with user exit

Dear experts,
I've created a variable (numeric value, user exit) and I want to get the value of variable from an user exit.
Actually, I want to convert "0calyear" to a number to be albe to calculate (multiplying, dividing etc).
If there is a possible solution only in FOX, the solution will be the best. However I couldn't find anything.
So, the next solution I am trying is user-exit. But I am in stuck here.
The problem is that I have no idea whether the numeric value variable has any sturcture like other variables(char. value) or not. If yes, what structure it has?
I know, the characterisc value variables have the structure as blow,

I've tried several times with the same way like above, but it doesn't work when I call the variable in "BPS0" or "UPSPL".

Hi Ravi,
Sorry, there's a correction. var2 is used for getting the first month of the year selected by the user in var1. If the user doesn't enter a value for var1, then var2 should take first month of current year from var1 which has by default last month of current year (populated in i_step1 from sy-datum). The user can select the value of var1 according to his requirement. Then var 2 should get first month of the year selected. That's why I'm using two exit variables.
It works fine during the initial run of the query. But when the user clicks on the variable button in the toolbar and executes the query, var1 is not being displayed and an error message No value could be determined for var2 is shown. All other variables used in the query are displayed except var1.
Krzys, Is the option Can be changed in Query Navigation available for Exit variables. I'll check that and get back to you.

For charcter/string i have used - select * from XX_TABLE where param1 like 'SS%'. But this query doesnt work when para1 is numeric. Please let me know first whether this is possible ? if yes how to achieve it ?

The numeric field is of 8 digits, so when i give search critera as '66', it should return values 66000000, 660000, 6600 etc. so i was not able to give between some range. I also tried storing all these values in internal table and the segregate the values it contains '66*'. This worked well but requires lot of coding effort.Please suggest if you guys have any better method ?

Can anyone suggest a method whereby I can calculate a numerical value that gives the total or average power between two stated frequencies of the AutoPowerSpectrum?

Using Measurement Studio (Vis. Basic), I'm trying to calculate as a numerical value the total or average power between two stated frequencies of the AutoPowerSpectrum. The PowerFrequencyEstimate Method gets me part of the way there. Using appropriate values of the input variables SearchFreq and Span, I divided the range between my two frequencies into 12 segments and let PowerFrequencyEstimate find the frequency and its power at the highest point in each segment. Then I added the 12 resulting powers. Since these are power values at several peaks, not average power over a given frequency range, it's not exactl
y what I want. Do any other approaches occurr to anyone?

Most people here won't do your homework for you. If you make an attempt yourself and get stuck then post your code (wrapped in code tags for easy reading), include any errors you get and what line they occur on and most of all ask a specific question. Don't just say "It doesn't work".
However, your assignment mentions that you are not allowed to use inbuilt C/C++ functions. This is a Java forum. Although the languages are similar and some here have C experience, try posting in a C forum.

How to configure visa to adquire dat from serial port and then converted to numeric value from a home embedded device

I already stablish communication with my serial port using VISA, selecting COM1 as the resoure name.
After that, I tried to read the data from the port (as we know the data was in string format )but I need to convert the data to numeric value to hadle it (no arrays).
Another main thing is that I'm develoing a new based Embedded design and tthe info that will trhow out from the device to the PC is binary.

For an example of bidirectional serial communication in LabVIEW, please see the shipping example LabVIEW <-> Serial.vi. This can be found from LabVIEW by going to Help >> Find Examples. From the example finder, select Hardware Input and Output >> Serial >> LabVIEW <-> Serial.vi.
Once you are able to read the string data in, you can use the VIs in the String/Number Conversion palette to convert the data to numeric format. To access these, right-click on the block diagram >> All Functions >> String >> String/Number Conversion.

Given a string, how do you find the numeric value in sparse ring?

Situation: I receive the string value of the sparse ring, and a control reference to the same type of control, but not the control that sourced the string. How can I convert the string, into the actual numeric value of the ring? For example:
Using the "VISA Select Event Type" ring (Functions -> Instrument I/O -> VISA -> Advanced -> Event -> Select Event Type.ctl), lets say I get the string "ServiceRequest" how do I convert that into 1073684491, the actual value of the ring?
This is a rework of an existing function that worked fine with "normal" rings.

Unfortunately this method will not work, its a generic routine that must be able to take any ring, so I can't hardwire the cases to known outputs. And, of course, searching the array of Strings[] will just find me a useless index.
My interm solution is this:
1) pick a small, but likely range of possible values for the ring
2) iterate through these values, assigning each one in turn to ring
3) read the RingText property to see if it matches the passed string
4) if it does, then exit. If it doesn't keep looping.
5) if no value produces a matching string, declare defeat (raise an error or produce other output that indicates a match could not be found).
The routine only runs in the UI so I am not too concerned about the time delay this method will i
mpose, but I would greatly appreciate a smoother solution.
