Numerical Input and array

Hello, I have a labview program with a numerical input for frequency. I created an array that contain a series of numbers. How can I let the program to get each element from the array sequentially? For example, it will read the first element of the array. 2 seconds later it will read the second element so on. I try to use "index array" but it only gives me one specific element of that array. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello Ixx,
From taking a look at  your program, as far as I can tell, the
code inside the loop is creating a pulse train, and using another
single pulse generation task to control how long to generate the
initial pulse train.  The Wait + (ms) VI is used to prevent the
tasks from going directly from being started to being cleared, and they
are a necessary part if you want your program to output as many pulses
at each frequency that you have entered into the 'number of pulses'
control on the front panel.  It seems that if you want to try to
transition between these different frequencies more smoothly, you
should generate more intermediate frequencies by increasing the
'Samples' input of the Ramp Pattern VI.  If you want to include
more intermediate frequencies, but want to transition from your lowest
frequency to highest in the same amount of time, then you will have to
generate less pulses at each frequency by lowering the value in the
'number of pulses' control.
Have you considered programming with NI-DAQmx functions as opposed to
these Traditional NI-DAQ functions?  They are much easier to use
and actually perform better in almost all applications.  NI-DAQmx
requires that you have LabVIEW 7.0 or later, and that your DAQ device
is new enough to support it, which you can check here.
I hope this helps!

  • Support for Multilingual Numeral Input in JTextField swing component

    When the User Locale is changed from the regional & language options in the control panel and the standard digits are customized to a non Latin character set, all the windows applications adhere to the changes made. HTML also respects the changes in effect and displays any numeric values using the new character set, which are the national digits for many Eastern Locales such as Chinese, Arabic(Saudi Arabia), Urdu and many more. The JTextField swing component given by java, however, does not show any support to the new settings. Any numeric input is displayed in the Latin character set even when the input locale of the system is also changed respectively. Any text input for this case is correctly displayed in the desired literals and appropriate glyphs. However, unlike the AWT components, numeral input and display is not catered as per the user/developer's requirements. This behavior was first noticed in 2007, as far as i have found out, and was reported once again on the same thread in 2010. The thread is given below as a reference. No action or response has been taken. Kindly look into this matter and please let me know if this bug has been reported before and if there is any intent of providing a fix for it.

  • Labview Calling DLL with 2D array input and output

    Hi all,
        I have to call  a dll which a 2D double array as an input and also a 2D double array as an output.The dll is made by me and written in c language , I need it to work  efficiently.
    If i define the program in labview like this
    The 2 2Darrays sent into CLN were "Array data pointer",then how to define the function in c laguage? just like  -----int  myfunction (Parameter1,Parameter2,Parameter3,Parameter4)
    If the function in the dll is defined like this         int myfunction (double  **A, int sx,int sy ,double **B,int ix,int iy),then what will the program in labview will be ?
    sx ,sy ix ,iy are the array's size.

    Your proposed prototype double ** seems to indicate that you want an array of pointers to the rows of the array. That is not how LabVIEW stores multidimensional arrays (nor how this is usually done in C for such arrays).
    LabVIEW and most C libraries threat multi dimensional array as one single block of memory where the rows are located one after the other. So as DFGray has already pointed out you should use double * instead as datatype or since you create the DLL yourself and if it doesn't need to be compatible with other environments than LabVIEW change that altogether into:
    typedef struct {
       int32 dimSize1;
       int32 dimSize2;
       double elm[1];
    } 2DDblArrRec, **2DDblArrHdl;
    int myfunction (2DDblArrHdl A, 2DDblArrHdl B);
    then change the Call Library Node parameters for the arrays to pass the array as Data Handle (the native LabVIEW datatype) and leave away the extra dimensions since they are already inside the handle structure.
    Last but not least if you want to be very fancy you can even use NumericArrayResize() on the output handle to resize it to the correct size before filling in your information and leave away the Initialize Array function on the LabVIEW diagram.

    I did not take the time to try to decipher what your program is doing, but I think you could replace all those feedback nodes and Build Arrays with an integer data type and the Rotate function from the Numeric >> Data Manipulation palette.  You will still need one shift regsiter or rfeedback node for each of the four signals.
    You have duplicated code: Divide by 65535, multiply by 2, and subtact 1 followed by a > comparison.  Make that a subVI and place 4 instances on your block diagram.
    Those simple changes will make you diagram understandable, reduce its size to the size of a postcard, and make any future changes easier.

  • Loops and Arrays help

    Hi,
    I'm a freshman in college and new to java. I am completely lost and really need help with a current assignment. Here are the instructions given by my teacher...
    Building on provided code:
    Loops and Arrays
    Tracking Sales
    Files Main.java and Sales.java contain a Java application that prompts for and reads in the sales for each of 5 salespeople in a company. Files Main.java and Sales.java can be found here http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~amk/foo/csci111/labs/lab6N/Main.java
    and here http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~amk/foo/csci111/labs/lab6N/Sales.java It then prints out the id and amount of sales for each salesperson and the total sales. Study the code, then compile and run the program to see how it works. Now modify the program as follows:
    1. (1 pts) Compute and print the average sale. (You can compute this directly from the total; no new loop is necessary.)
    2. (2 pts) Find and print the maximum sale. Print both the id of the salesperson with the max sale and the amount of the sale, e.g., "Salesperson 3 had the highest sale with $4500." Note that you don't necessarily need another loop for this; you can get it in the same loop where the values are read and the sum is computed.
    3. (2 pts) Do the same for the minimum sale.
    4. (6 pts) After the list, sum, average, max and min have been printed, ask the user to enter a value. Then print the id of each salesperson who exceeded that amount, and the amount of their sales. Also print the total number of salespeople whose sales exceeded the value entered.
    5. (2 pts) The salespeople are objecting to having an id of 0-no one wants that designation. Modify your program so that the ids run from 1-5 instead of 0-4. Do not modify the array-just make the information for salesperson 1 reside in array location 0, and so on.
    6. (8 pts) Instead of always reading in 5 sales amounts, allow the user to provide the number of sales people and then create an array that is just the right size. The program can then proceed as before. You should do this two ways:
    1. at the beginning ask the user (via a prompt) for the number of sales people and then create the new array
    2. you should also allow the user to input this as a program argument (which indicates a new Constructor and hence changes to both Main and Sales). You may want to see some notes.
    7. (4 pts) Create javadocs and an object model for the lab
    You should organize your code so that it is easily readable and provides appropriate methods for appropriate tasks. Generally, variables should have local (method) scope if not needed by multiple methods. If many methods need a variable, it should be an Instance Variable so you do not have to pass it around to methods.
    You must create the working application and a web page to provide the applications information (i.e., a page with links to the source code, the javadoc and an object model) to get full credit. You can use the example.html's from the last two labs to help you remember how to do this.
    I'm not asking for someone to do this assignment for me...I'm just hoping there is someone out there patient and kind enough to maybe give me a step by step of what to do or how to get started, because I am completely lost from the beginning of #1 in the instructions.
    Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

    First ask the person who gave this asignment as to why do you require two classes for this , you can have only the Sales.java class with main method in it . Anyways.
    Let Main.java have a main method which instanciates a public class Sales and calls a method named say readVal() in Sales class.
    In the readVal method of sales class define two arrays i.e ids and sales. Start prompting the user for inputting the id and sales and with user inputting values keep storing it in the respective arrays .. Limit this reading to just 5 i.e only 5 salesPerson.
    Once both the arrays are populated, call another method of Sales class which will be used for all computations and output passing both the arrays.
    In this new method say Compute() , read values from array and keep calculating total,average and whatever you want by adding steps in just this loop. You can do this in readval method too after reading the values but lets keep the calculation part seperate from input.
    You must create the working application and a web page to provide the applications information (i.e., a page with links to the source code, the javadoc and an object model) to get full credit. You can use the example.html's from the last two labs to help you remember how to do this. I think this is ur personal stuff , but if you want to use web page , you probably will require to use servlet to read values from the html form passed to the server.

  • MS Office Report Express VI and Array Problem

    Hello all,
    I have a strange issue with the MS Office Report VI that's included with the Report Generation Toolkit. I created an Excel template which I linked using the "Custom template for Excel" preference and applied all the named ranges. However, two of the named ranges that I am inputting are 1D Arrays of doubles. Now the problem:
    When I input the arrays to their specific name range (it's only 6 values), instead of inputting just the array values into the cells, it inputs like this:
    0    Value
    1    Value
    2    Value
    6    Value
    It pushes the "Value" to the column next to the name range because of the 0-6.
    It does this with both arrays so it screws up all the formulas. Any one know how to remove the 0-6 and just input the values?
    Thanks all

  • SSIS: How to use one Variable as Input and Output Parameter in an Execute SQL Task

    Hello,
    i need your help,I'm working on this issue since yesterday and have no idea how to deal with it.
    As I already said in the tilte i want to start a stored procedure via a Execute SQL Task which has around 15 prameters. 10 of these should be used as input AND output value.
    As an example:
    i have three  Variable:
    var1    int        2
    var2    int     100
    var3    int     200
    the stroed procedure:
       sp_test
          @var1 int
          @var2 int output
          @var3 int output
       AS
       BEGIN
            SET @var2 = @var2 * @var1
            SET @var3 = @var3 + @var1
       END
    So in the Execute SQL Task i call the Stored Procedure as follwos:
        Exec sp_test  @var1 = ?, @var2 = ? output, @var3 = ? output
    (I use an OLE DB Connection)
    The parameter mapping is as follows:
    User::Var1        input                   numeric              0                 -1
    User::Var2        input/output         numeric              1                 -1
    User::Var3        input/output         numeric              2                 -1
    Now my problem. If i set  Var2 and Var3 as Input parameter the values are still the same after running the package. If i set them to a output value the are both Null because the procedure doesnt get any values.
    I already tried to list them a second time - like
        User::Var2        input                  numeric              1                 -1
        User::Var2        output                 numeric              1                 -1
    or i use a new variable
        User::Var2                  input                  numeric              1                 -1
        User::Var2Return        output                 numeric              1                 -1
    but i alwas get the error
    "Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done."
    Has anybody an idea how I can solve this problem?
    Thanks a lot.
    Kind Regards,
    Alice

    Hi Alain,
    thx for your answer.
    I have around 15 procedures called one after the other to calculated and modify my values. Each procedure is responsible for an other but overlapping set of variables. So i thought it would be a good idea to call them one after the other with the needed variables via a execute sql task.
    So if i use a result set, how i get my stored procedure to return 10 values? I would have to use a Function instead of a procedure, wouldn't i?
    As if i have 15 procedures this would be a lot of work.
    But thanks a lot for the idea. I think an other idea would be to create one function which calls all stored procedures and returns all the calculated values as a result set, wouldn't it?.
    Kind Regards.

  • How do I create an xControl with multiple inputs and outputs?

    Hello,
    i am trying to write a new Xcontrol Element. In the data model I can create data types using the cluster to create compound types, eg an int and an int array. But how do I create an xcontrol which has multiple data inputs and outputs?
    Kind Regards

    Limping_Twerp wrote:
    Alright: I see: An xcontrol is either an input OR an output. How do I achieve an output? Secondly: So you are saying the only Elements that can have multiple inputs and outputs are VIs?
    Can you take a few steps back and explain what you are actually trying to do. SubVIs and Xcontrols have nothing in common and it is not clear why you even try to compare them side by side (e.g. in terms of the number of connectors).
    Your questions about input or output tell us that you seems to have some misconceptions about xcontrols. Xcontrols are like regular controls, except they have some built-in intelligence that you can program. Most front panel object can be either controls or indicators and the same is true for Xcontrol. You create an Xcontrol, and after placing it on the front panel you can decide if it should be a control (where the code reads the value) or an indicator (were the code writes values to it). When you define the xcontrol facade, you also need to program how the visuals change if it is changed from control to indicator or vice versa.
    As a first step, you should opend the example finder and look at some xcontrol examples.
    Again, what are you actually trying to do?

    Yes, you've made a very basic mistake. You have front panel controls and indicators but none of them are connected to the VI's connector pane. right click on the VI's icon and select "Show Connector". You use the wiring tool to select a connection there and then select a control or indicator. Use the on-line help and look up the topic "connector panes". There are some sub-topics on how to assign, confirm, delete, etc.

  • Need help with connecting file inputs to arrays

    In this assignment I have a program that will do the following: display a list of names inputed by the user in reverse order, display any names that begin with M or m, and display any names with 5 or more letters. This is all done with arrays.
    That was the fun part. The next part requires me to take the names from a Notepad file, them through the arrays and then output them to a second Notepad file.
    Here is the original program: (view in full screen so that the code doesn't get jumbled)
    import java.io.*;       //Imports the Java library
    class progB                    //Defines class
        public static void main (String[] arguments) throws IOException
            BufferedReader keyboard;                                  //<-
            InputStreamReader reader;                                 //  Allows the program to
            reader = new InputStreamReader (System.in);               //  read the the keyboard
            keyboard = new BufferedReader (reader);                  //<-
            String name;                 //Assigns the name variable which will be parsed into...
            int newnames;               //...the integer variable for the amount of names.
            int order = 0;              //The integer variable that will be used to set the array size
            String[] array;             //Dynamic array (empty)
            System.out.println (" How many names do you want to input?");   //This will get the number that will later define the array
            name = keyboard.readLine ();
            newnames = Integer.parseInt (name);                                         // Converts the String into the Integer variable
            array = new String [newnames];                                               //This defines the size of the array
            DataInput Imp = new DataInputStream (System.in);       //Allows data to be input into the array
            String temp;
            int length;                                                                  //Defines the length of the array for a loop later on
                for (order = 0 ; order < newnames ; order++)                                //<-

                    System.out.println (" Please input name ");                            //  gives them a number according to
                    temp = keyboard.readLine ();                                           //  the order they were inputed in

                    System.out.println (" Name " + order + " is " + array [order]);             //<-
                for (order = 0 ; order < newnames ; order++)                                  //<-
                    if (array [order].startsWith ("M") || array [order].startsWith ("m"))     //  Finds and outputs any and all
                    {                                                                         //  names that begin with M or m
                        System.out.print (" \n ");                                            //
                        System.out.println (array [order] + (" starts with M or m"));         //
                    }                                                                         //<-
                for (order = 0 ; order < newnames ; order++)                                            //<-
                    length = array [order].length ();                                                   //
                    if (length >= 5)                                                                    //  Finds and outputs names
                    {                                                                                  //  with 5 or more letters
                        System.out.print (" \n ");                                                      //
                        System.out.println ("Name " + array [order] + " have 5 or more letters ");      //<-
    }The notepad file contains the following names:
    jim
    laruie
    tim
    timothy
    manny
    joseph
    matty
    amanda
    I have tried various methods but the one thing that really gets me is the fact that i can't find a way to connect the names to the arrays. Opening the file with FileInputStream is easy enough but using the names and then outputing them is quite hard. (unless i'm thinking too hard and there really is a simple method)

    By "connect", do you just mean you want to put the names into an array?
    array[0] = "jim"
    array[1] = "laruie"
    and so on?
    That shouldn't be difficult at all, provided you know how to open a file for reading, and how to read a line of text from it. You can just read the line of text, put it in the array position you want, until the file is exhausted. Then open a file for writing, loop through the array, and write a line.
    What part of all that do you need help with?

For security reasons, applets by default cannot access the local file system (on the client) and cannot open any network connections except back to the server that served them up. You can sign your applet, and set up permissions in the JRE that your browser runs to allow the signed applet to do things that applets normally can't. However, before starting down that path, I suggest you examine whether your applet really needs to access the local file system, and if it does, if it should really be an applet, or would be more appropriate as an application.

    I have 2 applications(one on mobile phone J2ME, one on computer J2SE). They commuinicate with Input and Output Streams. Everything is ok, but all communication is in sequence, for example,
    from mobile phone:
    out.writeUTF("GETIMAGE")
    getImage();
    form computer:
    reply = in.readUTF();
    if(reply.equals("GETIMAGE")) sendimage()
    But I need to include one simple thing in my applications - when phone rings there is function in MIDlet - pauseApp() and i need to send some signal to Computer when it happens. But how can i catch this signal in J2SE, because mayble phone rings when computer is sending byte array? and then suddnely it receives command "RINGING"....?
    Please explain how to correcly solve such problem?
    Thanks,
    Ervins

    Eh?
    TCP/IP is not a multiplexed protocol. And why would you need threads or polling to decipher a record-oriented input stream?
    Just send your images in packets with a type byte (1=command, 2=image, &c) and a packet length word. At the receiver:
    int type = dataInputStream.read();
    int length = dataInputStream.readInt();
    byte[] buffer = new byte[length];
    int count, read = 0;
    while ((count = dataInputStream.read(buffer,count,buffer.length)) > 0)
    read += count;
    // At this point we either have:
    // type == -1 || count = -1 => EOF
    // or count > 0, type >= 0, and buffer contains the entire packet.
    switch (type)
    case -1:
    // EOF, not shown
    break;
    case COMMAND: // assuming a manifest constant somewhere
    // process incoming command
    break;
    case IMAGE:
    // process or continue to process incoming image
    break;
    }No threads, no polling, and nuthin' up my sleeve.
    Modulo bugs.

  • 6534 in Pattern Generation Input and Output

    Hello All
    I have a PCI 6534 High Speed Digital I/O card that I am trying to use to generate a pattern output from port A and acquire some data from port C. I have connected Port C, bit 0 to high and all the others low and I have also connected the two REQ pins together. This is to allow for the REQ pin from the pattern generation output to drive the input as an external clock. I have set the timebase as 1uS and the request interval as 10, to give a REQ pulse every 10uS. The idea being that the pattern generation output will generate a REQ pulse every 10uS and this would cause an input read to occur. My code can be found in the attached word file.
    Now initially I placed the DIG_Block_In command before the DIG_Block_Out and set the two counts to 100. For a single run of the application this filled my input buffer array with 50 elements of 257.... which I think is what I would expect as for a count of 100 it takes 2 to fill both the upper and lower 8 bits of the input array. OK....
    Now if I change the In Count to 200 and leave the Out Count at 100 I only fill 48 elements. I have no idea why this would happen. In my finall application I hope to increase the count to nearer 2000 and this loss of elements becomes significant.
    If I swap the DIG_Block_Out command to go before the DIG_Block_In then with both counts set to 100 I get no data acquired at all. If I increase both counts to say 2000, I actually acquire 944 elements, 56 less than I would expect? Why is this....?? Is it because the DIG_Block_Out command has already started the process before the DIG_Block_In command is initiated?
    Does anybody know what is going on here? I have had the same problem with a PCMCIA 6533 card (worse) and thought it would be solved with the PCI 6534. Does anybody know how I can ensure the correct numbers of data are acquired every time I run this operation? I need to be sure that all the desired data is being acquired as my final application is very dependent on this.
    Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
    Jamie

    Hi Jamie,
    Whenever you are communicating from one group to the other on the 653x boards, you should have the input clocked on an external signal and you should have the output start AFTER the input process has started.
    As for why your input buffer is half your output buffer, it could be that the intermediate PC memory buffer is in terms of bytes and your application buffer was casting this data to a 2 byte word.
    I linked on one of your other posts 2 example programs. Adapting those might suit your needs best. Have a good day.

  • Default Value in Numeric Input Field in Visual Composer Application

    Hi All,
    I have developed a visual composer application which has a numeric input field for Hours.
    It is mapped to a backend module.
    We are using portal 7.31
    The problem is that the deafult value of this input field is "0", but the rquirement is to display as "0.0"
    The functionality has been tested with input values in decimals and works fine. The problem is when the screen first populates, that field should show "0.0" .
    Please advise.
    Thanks

    Hi Soumya Chanda,
    I don't know of an agreeable way around it. You could have a textual input, but then it doesn't have the numeric control behavior, plus you need to handle incorrect typing (alphanumeric notes).
    Sorry!
