Nvidia Driver install problem after new kernel

i recentyl updated my kernel to 2.4.22 and added bootsplash support.. that works perfectly and the kernel works good.. except i have to rei stgall the nvidia driver.. but it gives me an errror that it cannot find kernel header file sources.. i made the package in /usr/abs/kernels/kernel did makepkg.. it made it find and it has a pkg/src directory.. i copied the src of the kernel to /usr/src/linux so theres /usr/src/linux/2.4.22 but it still will not work and cannot make the module and load it.. still gives methat i tcannot find kernel header files... any help would be great
-bolero

well you should have the headers if you used makepkg to rebuild your kernel as part of the pacakge creates a /usr/src/linux directory that holds all necessary headers.
if you did not use makepkg to build you kernel then you obviously did not create a /usr/src/linux directory (you do this by untarring the kernel source in /usr/src than symlinking the untarred source directory (linux-2.4.22 in your case) to linux (ln -s linux-2.4.22 linux).

  • OS install problem after new HD install

I very proudly installed a new 250g HD in my crashed mac mini A1176 ( I did not have anything backed up). After startup I got the ?. I put an install disk from macbook and restarted.I got to the installation stage and It said I couldn't install that software. I then partitioned and formatted the new HD (per forum posts) but still could not install OS. For some reason I also could not eject the disk. I tried all the tips and eventually opened it up and took out disk.
Next I tried to start up with Black OSX Tiger install disk- it won't show up. stuck on ? disk. And now I still can't eject that disk either.
Any ideas? Did I do something wrong on HD install? How can I get this working again?

First, do you have the original disks that came with the Mini? You stated that you tried "black" Tiger disks. Depending on your Mini's version, it could have shipped with 10.3.7, 10.4, 10.4.2, 10.4.5, 10.4.6, 10.4.7, 10.4.8, 10.4.10, 10.5 or 10.5.6
Let's say your Mini shipped running 10.4.5; Black Tiger 10.4.0 could not be used for the install.
Download and take a look at the Mini section of Mactracker http://mactracker.dreamhosters.com/ for all Mini information.

  • I just had a new hard drive installed. After loading everything back on my computer from external drive, i came to the "select wireless network screen. I've misplaced the WEP password for my internet. Is there anyway to find it on another computer?

i just had a new hard drive installed. After loading everything back on my computer from external drive, i came to the "select wireless network screen. I've misplaced the WEP password for my internet. Is there anyway to find it on another computer?

Maybe. What kind of other computer are you talking about? What operating system is it running? What kind of wireless router are you using?
Your best bet may be to just reset the router and set it up again.
Just so you know, WEP is a very old security system for wireless and is considered insecure. If you have it available, use WPA2.

  • Keyboardmap messed up after new kernel was installed

    Hey guys,
Was installing Arch the other day, and completed the installation of the base system.
Today I wanted to do the rest. I got to the point where I upgraded pacman and did a full system upgrade.
Got a new kernel, and according to the beginnersguide, after a kernel install, the pc will reboot or something like that.
It didn't reboot, so I issued the reboot command manually. The pc rebooted and when I wanted to log in, the keyboardlayout was messed up.
    The keys had entirely different positions. R was P, O was R , T was Y.
Also, during the install of the basesystem with the livecd, wireless worked fine, but when I wanted to install stuff to the base system, wireless didn't work.
It could find the networks, but couldn't connect to them.

    Hi.
I see that this post is starting to get old, so you probably figured out the solution, but here it is anyway...
I had this problem to, and after many hours of trying and failing, i finally figured out that the reason for this, is that the update also installs the keymap "dworak/no", and since dworak is listed before qwerty, it selects the dworak layout. You should be able to use "qwerty/no" in rc.conf to load the normal keyboard layout.
And btw, sorry for my bad english

  • My Mac Book Pro has just had a new memory and solid state drive installed. After the installation, the Lightroom tools all became grey. There is no longer any color on the screen other than my picture. Even the color sliders are grey.  Can you please help

My MacBook Pro just had a new memory and solid state drive installed. Since the installation, the Lightroom tools are now all grey. Even the color sliders are grey. Please help!

My guess is that your operating system got updated to Mavericks and that you are running an old version of Lightroom:
Sliders are white, look different | Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks
Be aware of a Lightroom bug with color management in mavericks that makes shadows too deep in the Develop module: Jao's photo blog: Serious color management bug in Mac OS 10.9 "Mavericks" and Jao's photo blog: Further quantification of the Mavericks color management problem.

  • Error message (GT8500- WindowsXP) "affichage defect" because NVIDIA driver (installed 340.52 updated), but 8500GT/PCIe/SSE2 3.3.0 required by Adobe Premiere 10 message ?? What is the problem ? Thank you for help.

Pourquoi ce message, car le driver de la carte Nvidia GT8500 est à jour !

There is a known major issue with Premiere Elements 10 on a computer that uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. The answer is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. You do not want an up to date driver in this case. For some computer operating systems like Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, this roll back fix is not possible because the video card/graphics card driver versions available do not go back far enough.
This matter has been written about extensively in this forum for over a year. And, there is an Announcement about this matter at the top of this forum.
    Also see
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE10: NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
    and
NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search
which will help you identify the driver version and download/install it.
According to what you wrote and assuming that your Windows XP is SP3 32 bit, your NVIDIA drivers page should look like this after you plug in your data.
And based on history, your choice in the above should be GeForce 320.18 Driver    320.18 May 23, 2013.
Please review and consider. And, then let us know if we have interpreted your information correctly.
    Thank you.

  • [SOLVED] Problem with nvidia driver install/uninstall

A while ago I installed the 177.70 driver from nvidia's site, then I was trying to install the 177.80 and to remove the .70 first, I tried
    sh NVIDIA-filename.177.70.run --uninstall
And the installer told me no nvidia driver was found. I haven't been able to install a newer driver since every time I tried X would give me a driver mismatch error on start-up. I am hesitant to manually remove any files, how would I fully get rid of 177.70 so I can install a newer one??
    TIA

See script for the command you should be running:
    sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.11-pkg1.run -a -q -s -N --no-opengl-headers
Assuming you're on 32-bit. To let Nvidia's installer sort out your mess.

I seem to have the same problem. The sound would play in some programs, would not in others, and in all of them when I stop playing, it would repeat the last half second endlessly. Could anybody shed some light on this problem?

  • Having trouble getting the nvidia driver installed.

i'm trying to install the nvidia driver for a EVGA 8800 GTS. I ran pacman -S nvidia as the guide said but got this error:
    error: could not prepare transaction
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    klibc-kdb: /lib/initcpio/hooks/keymap exists in filesystem
    klibc-kdb: /lib/initcpio/install/keymap exists in filesystem
errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
sorry, i'm new to arch, so can anyone point me in the right direction?
    thanks

That is a known error (see this:http://www.archlinux.org/news/391/
The best way to get around it is to explicitly force the install of gpm then carry on with the update, i.e
    pacman -Syf gpm
    pacman -Syu
EDIT: You will most likely get a kernel upgrade while bringing your system in-sync with the repos, don't forget that you will need to reboot in order to use the new kernel.

Hello all, well after installing SL then Win 7 then running bootcamp inside windows almost everything is working correctly. The only error i'm faced with is the iSight drivers do not want to correctly install. At boot up i get a driver install error but when i go into the control panel it says the device is working correctly. Anyone else run into this problem?

  • Possibly stupid question re: nvidia driver install

Hi there. I was wondering... Is it possible to install the nvidia driver without compiling the kernel? I don't want to repartition my drive to give Arch the space it would need to do that, and even if I had the space I'd rather not have to waste time compiling.
As a side curiousity, if I do indeed need to rebuild the kernel, can anyone explain why I need to? It seems to me that if whoever compiled it in the first place included the sources they used, and if they made a copy available, it would avoid a lot of hassle. Am I wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

    OK - 1.) get source from kernel.org
    OK - 2.) extract it in /usr/src
No - 3.) ln -s linux-2.6.4 linux (this step is debateable whither is necassary or not)
OK - 4.) run the NVidia installer (say yes compile me one when it says it can't find any on nvidia's site)
    OK - 5.) update XF86Config-4
OK - 6.) add nvidia to the modules like of rc.conf
Just wanted to debate. If you fetched the kernel source, you should have a look inside its readme. There is a strong warning not to link your source to linux. Instead, give your nvidia installer the option where to find the source.
    nvinstaller --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux-2.6.4/
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. Will not do that any more

  • Nvidia driver install with pacman available

    hi
you can find a nvidia package in tpowa repo
    ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/tur/tpowa
now it is possible to add /update remove nvidia drivers with pacman
at the moment it works with kernel 2.6.5
    not with the scsi kernel
    i'll try to fix that
please test it and give feedback
    thanks

hm if you update your kernel to 2.6.5-3
you have to update to gcc 3.4 too
the nvidia drivers have to be built with the same compiler that was used for the kernel
2.6.5-3 was built with gcc 3.4
--> nvidia driver has to be built with gcc 3.4
    upgrade both packages and do
reboot for the new kernel and then X will not start due of failing nvidia module, login as root and run:
    pacman -S nvidia
now you can start X and it should work :-)
    so it worked for me

  • NVidia driver`s problem (T410s) laptop-Windows 8

    I have Lenovo T410s 2912RF6. And I have installed windows 8 pro 64x.
my problem is with nvidia driver.
Ive downloaded a lot of driver softwares (for windows 8 and 7) from Lenovo`s and Nvidia`s sites to fix my problem but non of them worked and my nvidia is still having a problem (the drivers could not be installed)...
i tried nvidia site auto detect to see my nvidia version and it shows (NVS 5100m)
but in lenovos site specifications for my latop model it says (NVS 3100m)
I downloaded the driver from Lenovos site but it didnot work also...
    Please Help !!!
    Solved!

The drivers from the Nvidia site don't appear to be an optimus build which you'd need. They're stand alone generic drivers.
Why the Lenovo package does not work may be the OEM Win8 when you installed Windows 8 is getting in the way. Try and clean it out including the Intel drivers and then reinstall that package you list below.
