O-R Mapping Solutions and caching

I'm sorry for the most stupid question I'm about to ask about solutions like Hibernate, JDO, etc. and caching in general:
Can these ORM solutions and their respective caching strategies correctly update their cache if I manually do a "update table set ..." ? I know this is a somewhat general question but since I have never used any ORM, and I do not find my question answered anywhere, I was wondering if you can answer me.
My first thought is "hell, no!" Since the ORM / cache engine / etc may suppose, for optimization's sake, that the only way to change data is via application, but like I said I have never used such tools...
Thanks in advance!

You're right, It cannot detect third party operations...
BTW some of them have features to re-initiate their cache ... or even to cache nothing at all

  • Drive Map GPO and Item-Level targeting using DNS Computer Name not working as expected

    I've run into a snag trying to move from logon script based drive mappings, to a GPO based Drive map solution and I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on the problem that I am seeing.  We started down the GPO based drive mappings because we have
    a handful of Windows 8 client computers which don't run the logon script based drive mappings.
    I put together a basic Drive Maps GPO.   I'm mapping 3 drives, I've linked the GPO to a computer container OU for testing and everything is working just fine.  I have 3 different Windows 8 client PC, all domain joined, and all 3 run the GPO as
    expected.
    The problem is when I attempt to apply Item-level targeting.   I've found that if I define item-level targeting to use the NetBIOS name of the computer, I can either apply the GPO at an individual computer level, or I can exclude the GPO for that individual
    computer by toggling between IS and IS NOT.   However, when I choose to define the computer name by choosing the DNS option, the GPO does not apply as expected.
    So, if I say "the DNS computer name is example1.mydomain.com" and I apply the GPO, it applies to example1, example2 and example3.   And if I instead say, "the DNS computer name is not example1.mydomain.com", then it doesn't apply
    to example1, example2 or example3.     Obviously, I would expect it to apply or not apply only to example1.mydomain.com.
    If instead, I say "the NetBIOS computer name is example1", and apply the GPO, then example1 gets it, and example2 and example3 do not.   If I say, "the netBIOS name is not example 1", then example1 does NOT get the drive mapping,
    but example 2 and example3 do.   < This is exactly what I want and I can continue to just use NetBIOS names...but I don't understand why DNS isn't working in the same manner.
    My clients are all using DHCP and using domain controllers for DNS.   All 3 machines are in the mydomain.com namespace.  The mydomain.com namespace is an active directory integrated zone.   We have reverse zones in place for the dns records.
     I can ping the machines from the DC's as well as the machines themselves.  I can run nslookup and resolve the computer name for each host using the FQDN.  I can also run a ping -a IP_ADDY and get the FQDN back.  The DC's themselves are
    running Server 2008 R2.   I honestly don't see any issues from a name resolution standpoint on the network itself.
    So, any suggestions as to why defining the shortened NetBIOS name works just fine, but using DNS with a FQDN does not?   (I've tried the DNS name using just the name, the name., as well as name.mydomain.com and name.mydomain.com.)

    And here is the result from a Windows 7 host,  which is named d2-7-user1...thus it should map the T drive and in fact does;

  • Please recommend solutions for  Cache Connect and ?

    ---> Solution I
    2 servers create Cache Connect to RDBMS
    ---> Solution II
    1 server create Cache Connect to RDBMS and create active standby pair with another server

    Hi,
    If you only need READONLY caching in TimesTen and all updates will be made in Oracle then you have two main options:
    Multiple READONLY Caches
    For this you have one or more separate TimesTen caches each with a READONLY cache group defined against the oracle DBMS. Each cache can cache different tables/data or they can can cache the same tables/data as required.
    This architecture is very flexible (adding or removing TimesTen servers is very simple) and very scalable. It also provides very good HA; if one cache is down applications can just access a different cache.
    However, due to the asynchronous, time based nature of the refresh from Oracle to Timesten at any moment in times the data in all the caches may not be 100% consistent with each other or Oracle.
    By this I mean the following:
    - Assume that you have 2 (or more) READONLY caches caching the same data from Oracle, with an AUTOREFRESH interval of T1
    - At some time, T2, you update, in Oracle, one of the rows cached by the caches.
    - At some later time, T3, you query the updated row via both caches
    If (T3 - T2) < T1 then the values returned by your query may differ between the caches (depending on where exactly they are in the autorefresh interval when the update is done).
    Active/Standby pair using 2-SAFE replication with READONLY cache group and optional read-only subscribers
    With this architecture you define a TimesTen Active/Standby replicated pair using 2-safe replication and containing the READONLY cache group. 'Scale out' is accomplished in one of three ways:
    1. Adding further A/S pairs with a READONLY cache group
    2. Adding read-only subscriber datastores to the original A/S pair
    3. A mixture of (1) and (2)
    The main advantages of this architecture are as follows:
    1. When 2-Safe is used within the A/S pair, queries to either cache will always return consistent results (i.e. the consistency issue that I described for the first scenario does not exist in this configuration). However, threr can still be inconsitencies in results between the A/S pair and any readonly subscribers (since the replication to them is asynchronous) but given the high performance of TimesTen replication the latency between a change appearing at the A/S pair and the readonly subscribers will typically be a few ms rather than potentially several seconds for the multiple-cache scenario.
    2. The loading on the central Oracle DBMS arising from AuTOREFRESH processing is reduced compared to the multiple-cache scenario. The difference in loading between this solution and the multiple cache solution will be larger as more TT servers are deployed.
    It should be noted that the operational management of this solution is a little more complex than for the first scenario since the A/S pair must be monitored and a 'failover' trigerred if there is some fauilure within the pair.
    Hope that helps a little.

  • Validating XML offline: is a web-proxy and cache the solution?

    Is implementing a web-proxy and cache, the solution to offline XML validation?
    Our application uses XML to store data (local, and remote: it's up to user), but needs to work even when offline. This is a problem for the validated XML, since it's DTD may be located on a remote server. To complicate things, we would like to allow others to extend our application with data-formats (DTD's) of their own.
    At the moment, the DTD is stored in the applications jar file, but this is going to be a problem. In the data files, the URL for it's DTD includes the jar file's system dependant path name. If data files are moved to a different system (where paths are different) this will no longer work. As you can guess, simply using relative URL's (using the data file or the even the Application jar as Base URL) will also cause problems.
    Before concerning ourselves with offline editing, we ran into the problem of firewalls. This we could circumvent by setting Java's global HTTP proxy (thanks to http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/javatips/jw-javatip42.html for the tip)
      if (userNeedsProxy) {
        System.getProperties().put ("proxySet", "true");
        System.getProperties().put ("proxyHost", userProxyHost);
        System.getProperties().put ("proxyPort", userProxyPort);
      }Which appears to affect all URL.getStream() calls for http URL's, so works fine.
    To get around the offline problem, I'm thinking of implementing my application as a 'proxy', and caching any downloaded DTDs locally. This cache could be seeded with our apps default DTD, and any extensions can take advantage of this as well. This solution has the benifit of not modifying the basic XML parsing routines or doing something undesirable, like just turning off validation (suggested on other forum threads). Would this involve creating a custom URLConnection object and or URLStreamHandler?
    Any suggestions or comments are welcome, as I haven't started this, and I'm pretty sure it has been solved before. Does this sound feasable, or insane? :) Any experience shared is very appriciated!
    Thanks in advance

  • Problems in SLD and Cache refresh (SXI_CACHE).

    Dear Experts,
    I am facing SLD and Cache refresh problems in PI 7.0 on HP-UX.
    1) SXI_CACHE : Last Error During Cache refresh is showing LCR_GET_OWN_BUSINESS_SYSTEM - NO_BUSINESS_SYSTEM error. And also Start Delta Cache Refresh / Start Complete Cache refresh are in deactive mode (Frozen).
    2) SLDCHECK : Log says No Business System for ABC Client 100 ".
    where ABC=SID. Business System INTEGRATION_SERVER_ABC is declared in SLD and client 100 is assigned.
    My question is : Is this a BASIS or DEVELOPER issue? Also please let me know if you have any solutions for the above mentioned issue. Thanks in Advance.
    SLDCHECK Log Snippet:
    SLD server access settings:
    host name: ABCXIDEV
    port number: 50000
    user : PIAPPLUSER
    Use transaction SLDAPICUST if you wish to maintain the SLD server access data
    Launching the SLD GUI in a separate browser window...
    => Verify in the browser GUI that the SLD is in a healthy running state!
    Calling function LCR_LIST_BUSINESS_SYSTEMS
    Retrieving data from the SLD server...
    Function call terminated sucessfully
    List of business systems maintained in the SLD:
    INTEGRATION_SERVER_ABC
    ERP_DEV_100
    Calling function LCR_GET_OWN_BUSINESS_SYSTEM
    Retrieving data from the SLD server...
    No corresponding business system found for system ABC client 100
    => Check and maintain the SLD content for the current client

    Hello,
    Since this is an PI system, your XI consultant must have created/will need to create business systems in SLD for the scenario to work properly. This error is because it cannot find the business system.
    You cannot point out the fingers on Basis or XI and say that it is THEIR issue. Please consult with the consultant who is doing the XI interface and check if the business systems he require are properly created in SLD. If not, create them or ask them to create it (if they are allowed to..).
    From the error, what i can see is that you have defined an integration server INTEGRATION_SERVER_ABC in SLD . the XI interface is checking the required business system in the integration server INTEGRATION_SERVER_ABC in SLD but cannot find it over there. Please check the integration server INTEGRATION_SERVER_ABC in SLD and talk to the XI consultant and you will be able to fix this with their help.
    Hope this helps you..

  • How to read Group ID from Value Mapping Context in Cache Monitoring ?

    Hi friends,
        In RWB --> Cache Monitoring --> Integration Server (Java) -> (Search for Value Mapping Groups) in this each item is identified by Value Mapping Group (GroupID, Context, Identifier/Agency, Identifier/Scheme). Either we create Value Mapping Table in ID or replicate value mapping data directly from text file/SAP table etc., in run time cache, data will be identified in this manner.
        Now, our requirement is to delete a record the Cache for a particular context. Two operations provided by XI one is 'Delete' and another one is 'DeleteGroup'. When we use either of this, we should know GroupID. Suppose, I replicated some large amount of data from my text file in Runtime Cache. Value Mapping Table is like that IN --> India, US --> USA, AU --> Australia, EG --> Egypt. Now, I am required to write a program to get the input country code from user which is going to delete in the value mapping table like IN/AU....  For this, what logic we should follow in the program is, First we scan the value mapping table and find the record (country code)  which is match with the input. Then find the GUID value for this record. Now we use the DeleteGroup Operation and pass this GUID and then delete the record.
        So, in essence, how to read the GUID from value mapping context.
        Friends, Kindly help me to do this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jegatheeswaran P.

    Did you get the way to read group id?

  • Value mapping replication - java cache

    i used value mapping replication and successfully loaded values to the java cache (i can see the in the cache monitoring but not in  the configuration).
    when i try to use a scenario with value mapping using the agencies and schemes which i loaded, the mapping doesn't work and i receive the same value that was entered.
    what could be the problem?
    P.S
    i used the same groupid for each pair of source and target value when i loaded them. is that the right way?

    Tomer,
    what is the context that u used. Did you give the correct context in mapping as in Runtime Cache.

  • Citrix mapped drives and crystals merged files

    Has anybody come across an issue with Citrix mapped drives and crystals merged files.
    I have updated the crystal DLL's my application uses to 11.5 and created a new setup kit to distribute my app including these new DLLu2019s along with a merged file call crstalreports11_5_net_2005.msm the Visual Studio setup app added. The installation runs fine on the Citrix server and application runs as well.  When I come to run any report on the Citrix server I get an error u201Cprocedure call or argument is not validu201D.  If I remove the mapping to the drives the reports run without any errors.
    I need to keep the mapped drives on Citrix so removing the mappings is not really a solution to my problem (which is a shame really)
    I am using Visual Studio 2005, Crystal Report XI and Citrix 4.5
    Any help would be gratefully received

    See if Process Monitor will help you trace down to where this is happening. Process Monitor can be downloaded from here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
    Make sure you filter for your process name as Proc Mon creates rather large log files. Once you have a log, search for errors such as Access Denied, etc.

  • Map/Reduce and Affinity

    First of all, let me describe use case.
    Where are two types of objects (and accordingly two distributed caches): Child(cid, pid, cdata1, ....) and Parent(pid, pdata1, ...). Child's key have key association so, child objects stored in the same partition where its parent stored. So, I need to run the query against parents with several constraints applied. These set of constraints contains constraint which is based on data from corresponding child objects. How to do it efficiently without precalculation and putting precalculated value in Parent objects and applying constraint to it?
    Example:
    User(uid, firstname, lastname) and Address(aid, uid, zip) (user can have several addresses)
    query is: select all users which firstname equal to 'John' and have address with zip equal to '65535'
    The second case is pretty the same, but the query is slight different: select all addresses with zip equal to '65535' and which user's firstname equal to 'John'

    Hi,
    I was asking about immutability of fields used to establish the join relationship between the parent and the child and the rest of the attributes in one of the tables.
    But it makes too many restrictions, I believe.
    Ok, in the general case of map reduce you can just do an aggregation and idempotently put the reduced info to a cache in a DIFFERENT cache service from what you aggregating in an idempotent way (always the same data on the same key even for retries), which also means that the granularity of such data must be so that an entry of the reduced data must be reduced from entries only in a single partition of the mapped data if this is not the final reduce step.
    Let's look at an example: you are doing a two step map/reduce.
    First step maps entries like this:
    Mapped data keys are:
    P1K1
    P1K2
    P2K3
    P3K4
    where with the notation P2K3 I mean that Coherence assigned the key to partition 2. This assignment has to do with Coherence's key-partitioning strategy (which is pluggable, by the way), you cannot explicitly decide it on an entry-by-entry basis.
    Let's assume that P1 and P2 are at the time both owned by node X, P3 is owned by node Y.
    When you are doing an aggregation of this cache, it is possible (likely) that your aggregator on node X will get entries for keys P1K1, P1K2, P2K3.
    Your aggregator must create a reduced result for (P1K1 + P1K2) which is a separate from the reduced result entry from P2K3. That result entry must only depend on the data in the entries from which it was reduced respectively (P1K1 + P1K2 or P2K3, but not both) and not on anything else. This is because Coherence may reexecute that
    aggregation later on a node which has only P1 but not P2 if node X died, and the cache might also have one of the reduced results and you would end up either with corrupt results or you would have to write more complex code to cover this case.
    You have to put these RP1K12, RP2K3, RP3K4 reduced entries to a cache separate from the mapped cache so that you are not facing the possibility of deadlocks or thread-starvation in the service of the aggregated cache.
    This unfortunately will mean that the reduced result will likely not be on the same node as the mapped data, and that would mean lower performance compared to if you were able to do this in the same node in case your both caches you want to join together were on the same node.
    Another approach, for affine data is that from the aggregator you locally enqueue the reduced data to a local queue from which its consumer fires off the second step of aggregations to the other cache to be mapped which aggregation holds the first reduced data in its state. You will have to care about duplicate checking of partial reduced data on the final reduce step so each step of your reduced data must carry its source partitions from all preceeding steps.
    I will possibly show an example of this in a couple of days, but I will have to iron out a couple of things, first, like ensuring at-least once guarantees for starting the next step.
    Alternatively you can build something similar with InvocationService which helps a bit by providing an asynchronous invocation possibility.
    Best regards,
    Robert

    i found a solution for this issue when google maps shows you an empty map error message cannot reach server. Click on  the icon next to search and you are supposed to be presented with your profile, if not u will have an empty space. click on that space, then the "gear " Icon and logout.
    restart your iphone then strat google maps again and log back in.
    apparently this is happening when you change your google acount password or enble or disable 2 step verification.

  • Webstart shortcut and cache location

    Hello All,
    I need to install an application on a terminal server for multiple users. The problem is that each user has their own shortcut and cache (jars, ind files, etc) for the application using webstart. Is there a way to install it once so that all users can use it at the same time without creating profile specific cache?
    I used an adminsitrator login id to install an application via webstart. The shortcut was put in "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop". I copied the shortcut to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop". Using another id I was able to start the application using the shortcut but the cache was put into that user's profile ie a separate cache was created. Is there a way to prevent this? Is there some better way to set this up?
    Your comments & suggestions will be much appreciated.

    We went through this discussion quite a bit, but did not come up with a solid solution. Really, the only way to manage this that I've seen is to use a common directory that you can control across all environments to store libraries. Unfortunately for my client this was not an option, as we could not ensure that all users had access to the path. If anyone has some other options, I'd be interested to hear them.

  • HibernateCacheStore and cache backup

    Hi all,
    Our scenario is a bit like this:
    1) two node distributed cluster
    2) a third machine is a database server
    What I'm trying to achieve is the have the database server act as a backup for the cache so that in the event that both nodes go down, the cache can be restored to the point just prior to the failure. I've been experimenting by modifying the examples (http://wiki.tangosol.com/download/attachments/16730/hibernate-sample-src.jar), here is my configuration:

    </cache-config>I've written some simple code to populate the cache from the database:
              LOG.info("loading...");
              HibernateCacheLoader loader = new HibernateCacheLoader(SampleEntity.class.getName());
              Session session = loader.getSessionFactory().openSession();
              int start = 0;
              long total = 0;
              while(true) {
                   Stopwatch batchStopwatch = new Stopwatch();
                   batchStopwatch.start();
                   Query query = session.createQuery("SELECT id FROM SampleEntity");
                   query = query.setFirstResult(start);
                   query = query.setMaxResults(BUFFER_SIZE);
                   query = query.setFetchSize(BUFFER_SIZE);
                   List<String> keys = query.list();          // get keys from DB
                   if (keys.size() == 0) break;
                   cache.putAll(loader.loadAll(keys));          // use CacheLoader to load
                   batchStopwatch.stop();
                   total += keys.size();
                   LOG.info("loaded: "+(start+keys.size())+", "+batchStopwatch.toString());
                   start += BUFFER_SIZE;
              stopwatch.stop();
              LOG.info("done, total loaded = "+total+", "+stopwatch.toString());
              LOG.info("average load speed: "+(total/stopwatch.getSeconds())+" rows/sec");I've also been creating dummy data as per the example:
              // Seed the cache/database with sample values
              for (int i = 0; i < ROWS; i++) {
                   SampleEntity se = new SampleEntity();
                   se.setId(UUID.randomUUID().toString());
                   se.setName(getRandomString());
                   se.setDate(new Timestamp(System.currentTimeMillis()));
                   se.setAge(i);
                   dao.saveSampleEntity(se);
                   if (i%1000 == 0) LOG.info("saved "+i);
              }So, several questions I have:
    1) Have I taken the correct approach to achieve my goals? Is there a better way?
    2) I would like to use <write-delay> to enable async writing to the DB to lower the wait time of hitting the cache - however, as I have found in the DB populator application I need to give the application time to clear the queue (ie, the DB populator program quits very quickly when writing asynchronously, and as a result not all records are written to the database). Given that I need to account for hardware failures to the cluster which means the queue may not be cleared, am I stuck with using synchronous writes, and hence each write/update to the cache will result in a database-hit length wait time for the user?

    Hi,
    In the Coherence console there is a way to do this with CohQL - see here http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15357_01/coh.360/e15723/api_cq.htm#CEGBCJHD
    I have never used this but I suspect what this will do is stream the contents of you cache through the CohQL node to disk. This sounds fine at first but I can imagine it being slow for very large caches.
    We recently had a similar requirement for the project I work on but the number one feature was that it had to be fast. In the end we could dump a 100GB cluster to disk in about a minute and load it back in about five minutes. The reason it is fast is because the write/read happens in parallel across all the storage nodes. We just stream the Binary keys and values straight from the backing maps to disk and on reload stream the Binary back in again.
    It was complicated by the fact that we have triggers on our caches that we needed to bypass when reloading. We also needed to bypass cache stores - but only for data that had not already been written by any write-behind cache stores.
    There are probably other ways of doing what you want, but as I said our number one requirement was speed. At the time on our project reloading from the DB took about 2 hours, so especially in Test environments where we were redeploying a cluster quite often over 2 hours turn-around was not good - and rolling restart of a clusters between 150 - 400 nodes takes even longer.

  • EJB3.0 and caching

    there was a good idea to use the servicelocator pattern in ejb 2.1, mainly to solve the time for home interfaces creation through caching.
    i still can't find any design patterns targeting ejb 3.0, so i'd like to hear this forum's gurus opinion on the caching issue in ejb 3.0. it seems to me the new model doesn't include any caching mechanism and each @EJB injection makes the whole lookup process behind the scene. do you think it might be a good idea to cache and reuse the objects created by the means of @EJB injection? my first thinking was that this might be wrong, because we are talking about the remote and not home here. but then i realize that this terminology is gone with ejb 2.1. it's just a poji now, we can cache it as a reference of any other type...
    thanks for your ideas!

    EJB 3.0's Java Persistence API (JPA) is not supported directly from the workbench. You can however take your existing TopLink XML config files (sessions and Map/Project) and use them with JPA (no annotations).
    When working with annotations it becomes more relevant to be doing these operations within an IDE. To this end we have already delivered early support for JPA in JDeveloper. You can generate a persistent entity model from tables with full annotations and then generate a session bean facade exposing the persistence operations as needed.
    For those of you not using JDeveloper we are also leading a project to add this functionality to Eclipse within WTP. For more information on project dali go to www.eclipse.org/dali.
