I have a system that's great for video, but now I'm getting into animation and quickly discovering what 'real' render times are all about! just a little math: 1 frame renders approximately at 26 seconds. 30 frames per second X 60 seconds = 1800 frames X 26 seconds per frame = 46,800 seconds or 13 hours to render 1 minute of animation??? it's obvious that I can't dedicate my only computer to rendering full time, and am looking at the MacPro's. the iMac's don't have the expandability, and I'm wondering if it's better to run Windows (XP Pro for instance) on a Mac?
1.25ghz (former 450) Sawtooth   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2 GB Memory, 64 MB Video Card

thanks, Tom. the reason I was considering XP on a Mac is because it's ability to take advantage of 64-bit processing, whereas Mac's don't have the luxury of 64-bit software, as yet anyway. Leopard is coming, but with the jump Windows has with 64-bit in Cinema 4D, Lightwave, etc, and that my MacPro would be totally isolated from the Internet (I have a G4 to take care of that), and that it would be dedicated for animation (because of rendering), I was thinking it would be too advantageous to resist.

    Hello,
    I'm using a PCI-MIO-16E-4 card with labview7 (in using DAQmx)and I

My problem is: my program can run correctly in low frequency but, it
can't work correctly in high frequency (after 2KHz the signal is
    false).
For verifying my program: I only try to generate and acquire a sweep
sine. I constate after 2KHz the sine I read dosn't resemble to a sine
    I wrote.
Can you say me where is the problem?
    Thank you.

I've tried to do it, and I've tried several other possibilities but it
    doesn't work correctly.
In fact, I think the problem is in my program. Do you have a program

  • How to generate a sinewave with at-mio-16de

I have an at-mio-16de Daq card. I want to generate a sine wave on the analog o/p. I believe that I would use the WFM_load function. I do not understand 1) how to load a buffer for this function and 2) what mode I am supposed to use. The modes in the help file all say the description is for the DAQArb 5411. I am using visual basic for my app.

There are a number of examples which ship with the NI-DAQ driver which perform an analog output using the WFM commands. If you installed support for Visual C or Visual Basic when you installed the NI-DAQ driver you will find examples in the \Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\Examples directory. You didn't mention what language you were using; however, if you look in the VisualC\ao subdirectory you will find manu examples which demonstrate generating a waveform from your device. Use these examples in conjunction with the NI-DAQ Function Reference Manual, which can be downloaded from http://www.ni.com/manuals, and you will be able to better understand what is happening in these examples.

  • How can I use a GPIB and AT-MIO-16L with a common NI-DAQ?

I'm using a GPIB card for recording data and a AT-MIO-16L for sending an analog output to my instrument. Earlier, both the devices (GPIB and AT-MIO-16L) were running correctly. Until I reformated my hard disk. Now I'm trying to install NI-DAQ 6.1.1 for AT-MIO-16L but that doesn't detect my GPIB card. On the other hand if I use NI 488.2 along with MAX 1.7 or MAX 2.2, I'm unable to use AT-MIO-16L. Is there a way I could get both my devices running on a common platform?

NI-DAQ is not supposed to detect your GPIB and NI-488 software will not detect your daq board. When you installed MAX, was this from a LabVIEW driver install CD that also put a new version of NI-DAQ on your pc. Open MAX and check your currently installed versions of NI-DAQ and NI-488. They should both be listed. If you have a new version of NI-DAQ than 6.1, you can uninstall the newer version and install 6.1.

I have AT-MIO-16E-10 board and i want to control a counter (the GPCTR0 counter of the bord) to count up depending on the gate signal. Now i have the following missunderstanding.I've read in the AT-MIO-16E-10 manual that the gate signal can be treated eather as an input or as an output. So i want to control my counter (to count up) until a signal that comes on my gate counter's entry changes his states from 1 to 0 (to reset the counter) and then when it changes his states back to 1 form 0 i.e a transition from 0 to 1 to start counting again from zero. Now here i have 2 questions : 1. How can i config the gate signal as an input signal (in the AT-MIO-16E-10 manual it sais that the signa
l can be treated as an input or output and it's known if i configure the port as an output and if i came with an external signal to the gate i can damage the board if the signal it's set to zero ) 2. What it's the default state of the gate signal ?
Any vi files would be very usefully,Thank you very much for reading this and i'll be waiting for your answers as quick as possible.

    Antonios,
The shipping example VI Count Edges does what you describe.
    >Quoted from VI Description
    Count Edges (DAQ-STC).vi
    DESCRIPTION:
This VI counts rising edges, using an STC based device (e.g.: E-series). The counter increments its event count everytime a pulse comes into its source input. A gate signal can be added such that if a low signal occurs on the gate, then the counter will pause (scroll the front panel left to access the gate settings). The current value of the counter is read continuously in the while loop, until the Stop button is clicked or an error occurs.
    I/O CONNECTIONS:
Connect the gating signal, if any, to the gate input of the selected counter.
If you selected the Source Selection to be "PFI line", connect your event count base signal to the PFI line indicated by "Source PFI line number used". (If you selected "Internal Timebase", no source connection is necessary.)
NOTE: For actual I/O pin numbers, please refer to your hardware user manual.
    INSTRUCTIONS:
    1. Enter the device and counter you want use.
    2. Make your Source selections, as desired.
    3. Optional controls are located on the left side of the front panel. You will have to use your scroll bar to reach these.
    4. Connect your signals as described below in I/O CONNECTIONS.
    5. Run the VI.

If you look inside the Diagram of the Count Edges VI you will see a subVI, Group Config CTR, that has a constant set to "simple event counting." This configures the gate in the correct manner. You have 17 or so options to choose from (right-click to see the other choices). Each choice configures the counters as needed. No special effort is needed on your part.
If you really must know more details double-click on the Group Config CTR icon. On the Diagram of that VI is a Call Library function. Right-Click that and see more ugly details that you don't need to know. The functions of the counters are fully implemented by the options already available, so you don't need to know how the details, but it is intersting.
    Hints:
Keep in mind that the counters require TTL level signals. 0V to 5V. Limit the current to the level the DAQ board can handle. You will false trip the counter if your low is higher than 0.8V. I have had problems with this when using noisy signals.
Also make sure you debounce any switches you wire to the counters. It is instructive to hook up an unbounced switch to the counter inputs and see just how many false trips they can generate!

  • AT-MIO-16XE-50 device is not responding to the selected base address

I'm trying to install my AT-MIO-16XE-50 DAQ board onto my Windows NT desktop computer, but I'm having trouble.
Here's what I've done: I've installed LabView 5.1 and the NIDAQ 7.0 software onto my computer first. Then I've physically installed the DAQ board into my computer. After starting the computer, the plug-and-play system seems to recognize the new hardware and install drivers for it. It then says I need to reboot the computer, so I reboot the computer.
When I then look at my device manager, it lists AT-MIO-16XE-50 twice. Under the properties/resources tab, one of them lists "input/output range", "interrupt request", "direct memory access", and "direct memory access" (i.e., 2 "direct memory access"s). The second one only lists "direct memory access" once and nothing else under the properties/resources tab. Also, the first one says that it is working properly while the second one says that it is not working properly (Code 10). I've played around with chaging the "direct
memory access" numbers and after rebooting the computer have gotten both AT-MIO-16XE-50's in the device manager to say that they're working properly. So, now the DAQ board appears to be installed correctly, because the device manager reports no problems with it. However, there are still 2 of them. My first question is this: should there be only 1 entry in the device manager list, or are there supposed to be the 2 that I see? The entries do appear to be different from each other, but they're for the same device, so that's a little confusing.
When I open my Measurement and Automation explorer, only one AT-MIO-16XE-50 device is listed (so this looks good), and under "properties" all 3 "direct memory access" numbers are listed. So, this all seems good. But, when I click on "test resources" or "test panel", I get an error message saying that "the device is not responding to the selected base address". Considering that this device was plug-and-play, and I did not set the base address manually, I don't understand why I'm getting this error message.
What I've tried is to change the "input/output range" number by using the device manager. I've tried a few different settings (rebooting the computer after each change) and none of the different "input/output range" settings seem to work.
I'd appreciate it if you could give me any help on figuring out how to resolve this "not responding to base address" problem. The info on your web site
appears to suggest flipping dip-switches on the DAQ card, but my card does not have any dip switches because it is plug-and-play. So, right now I'm
clueless! Thanks for reading this, and I hope that you have more insight than I do.

    Smaria,
The AT-MIO-16XE-50 shows up twice in the Device Manager because it reserves three DMA channels, and the ISA bus only allows two DMA channels per ISA slot. You mentioned that you were able to get both devices working properly in the Device Manager. Below is a link to a KnowledgeBase that describes the proper procedure to successfully accomplish this. You should verify that this is the procedure you followed:
