O365 Student Advantage

I am having trouble with trying to get the Office 365 installer to work in school for students that bring their laptops in...
Students that run the installer from their Office 365 account at home can install the software fine. We have unblocked all sites we found in articles on the web.
Surely their must be a full installer we can use and then activate with their email address??
Our normal Office 2013 Professional Plus installer will not activate with their student O365 user name and password.

In general, the steps of install and activate Office 365 in school as the same as the that at home, what's the error code during the process?
Did you read this:

By the way, Office 365 for education liscense cannot activive the Office 2013 Professional Plus installer, it's by design.

  • Do I need to purchase Office 365 A3 plan for faculty to get free Office 365 ProPlus for students in Office 365?

    Hi there
    Our school has A2 plan for both students and faculty. We recently contacted our reseller and placed an order for free  Office 365 ProPlus A for our students. We received an acknowledgement from Microsoft regarding this order saying that it was successfull
    and I can see the license added when I log into the VLSC website. Problem is, I can't see this licence listed when I log into Office 365 admin. It is not listed under subscriptions or licenses. Apologize for my ignorance, but I don't know how can I get this
    license added in Office 365 so that our students can start using editable versions of office apps on their IPADs. Do we need to purchase Office 365 A3 plan for our staff to get this student's license enabled in Office 365? Can somebody please help?

    I have similar questions concerning getting started with the Student Advantage program offering.
    I've read the blog posts and made as many as 5 calls to Office 365 and still do not understand how to get this going.
    We have a subscription to Education A2 for both faculty and students that we started in January 2014.  We receive this at no charge.  So I'm starting with a subscription at no cost.  I do not have an Education Reseller because we started our
    subscription through the website with a trial and had that converted to the no cost A2 plan.
    When I am in the portal and look under 'Purchase Services' I can see the option to add Office ProPlus for Faculty at $2.00/user/month and for Office ProPlus for Students at $1.50/user/month.  My understanding of Student Advantage is that if I license
    all my faculty/staff accounts for Office ProPlus I would then get the Student access at no charge.  So I've licensed the Office ProPlus for Faculty for all of our faculty accounts yet I cannot get a clear answer about how to get the Student accounts added
    at no cost.
    I most recently was told by Office 365 support that I needed to speak to a reseller, which I did today.  He told me that I would need to do one of two things.
    1. Upgrade my no cost A2 faculty accounts to A3.  Which for me and what I see in the portal would take them from $0 to $4.50/user/month.  With that A3 for faculty I would get the Office ProPlus for the Students accounts on A2 at no charge.
    2. I would need an Open Value license covering all school FTEs for Office at a cost of about $29/user/year.
    Both of these options are higher than licensing all Faculty accounts for Office ProPlus via the portal at $2/user/month which I have already done.
    So I don't understand why that doesn't qualify us for Student Advantage and now have to license all FTE, most of whom don't even touch a computer, for Office.

  • AD account creation HELP!

    Hello, I was wondering if I could get some help on a script I created. Our environment is setup with Windows server 2008 R2 (just recently upgraded to 2012 R2)  we do not use ADFS servers we use DirSync to import AD to O365 and we use Password sync
    from Messageops so AD passwords are passed along to O365.
    What I need help on is truncating the users sAMaccountName (the pre-windows 2000) as any user with over 20 characters fails to create. The format we are using is Firstname.Lastname, if I manually create the account ADUC automatically truncates the logon
    name. So that is one thing I need help on.
    The second part I need help on is exporting to the CSV file portion. I have it set up now to basically pull the LastName, mail and ID headers from the first CSV file and rename the expressions to Last_name, email and id_num and input the values from those
    columns into the new columns. However it does this even if part of the script failed because I have it set up that way. I need it to query the AD and verify those accounts have been created and input those verified accounts into the new CSV file and email
    me if any user is not created.
    Below is the script I run,
    everything works I just need help truncating SamAccountName (pre-windows 200) and after script runs to verify if all accounts were made and export them to a CSV file containing LastName, email and ID number.
    The CSV file that I use is laid out like this...
    SamAccountName, FirstName, LastName, Displayname, Mail, ID, UPN, Company, Department, Title, Phone, Password, path
    The exported CSV is laid out like this...
    Last_name, email, id_num
    What this script does is import a CSV file, takes data from the CSV and creates the AD account. After the account is created it pauses for 15 mins to allow the account to replicate out to O365 (I set up Directsync to update every 15mins vs
    the 3 hour default).
    Import-Module ActiveDirectory
    #CREATE ACTIVE DIRECTORY ACCOUNT
    import-csv "C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv" | ForEach-Object {
    New-ADUser -Name $_.SamAccountName -UserPrincipalName ($_.UPN + "@my.domain.com") -GivenName $_.FirstName -Surname $_.LastName -Displayname $_.displayname -EmailAddress $_.mail -path $_.path -AccountPassword (ConvertTo-SecureString -AsPlainText $_.Password -Force) -title "Student" -company "My Company" -department $_.Department -employeeID $_.ID -HomePhone $_.Phone -Enabled $true -passwordneverexpires $true
    import-csv "C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv" | ForEach-Object {Set-ADUser -identity $_.SamAccountName -Add @{targetAddress="SMTP:" + $_.UPN + "@domain.mail.onmicrosoft.com"}}
    import-csv "C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv" | ForEach-Object {Set-ADUser -identity $_.SamAccountName -Add @{ProxyAddresses="smtp:" + $_.UPN + "@domain.mail.onmicrosoft.com"}}
    import-csv "C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv" | ForEach-Object {Set-ADUser -identity $_.SamAccountName -Add @{ProxyAddresses="smtp:" + $_.UPN + "@domain.onmicrosoft.com"}}
    import-csv "C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv" | ForEach-Object {Set-ADUser -identity $_.SamAccountName -Add @{ProxyAddresses="SMTP:" + $_.UPN + "@my.domain.com"}}
    #ADD USERS TO SPECIFIED GROUPS
    import-csv "C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv" | ForEach-object {
    Add-ADGroupMember -identity "Password Sync" -Member $_.SamAccountName}
    import-csv "C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv" | ForEach-object {
    Add-ADGroupMember -identity "All Students" -Member $_.SamAccountName}start-sleep -s 900
    After the 15 min pause the script then continues by signing into my Office 365 with my credentials saved as a secure-string.
    (To save the password as a secure-string I did this "read-host -prompt "Enter password to be encrypted in mypassword.txt " -assecurestring | convertfrom-securestring | out-file C:\Office365\cred.txt")
    #Input username and password for O365 admin account
    cd C:\Office365
    $password = Get-content C:\Office365\cred.txt | ConvertTo-SecureString
    $cred = New-Object -TypeName System.Management.Automation.PSCredential -ArgumentList [email protected],$password
    $s = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://ps.outlook.com/powershell -Credential $cred -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection
    Connect-MsolService -Credential $cred
    After it's signed into Office 365 it then creates a special O365 license for students disabling everything but Exchange Online.
    #Creates special O365 license for students disabling everything but Exchange Online
    $myO365Sku = New-MsolLicenseOptions -AccountSkuId domain:STANDARDWOFFPACK_STUDENT -DisabledPlans MCOSTANDARD,SHAREPOINTWAC_EDU,SHAREPOINTSTANDARD_EDU
    start-sleep -s 1
    import-csv "C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv" | ForEach-Object {Set-MsolUser -UserPrincipalName ($_.UPN + "@my.domain.com") -UsageLocation US}
    import-csv "C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv" | ForEach-Object {Set-MsolUserLicense -Userprincipalname ($_.UPN + "@my.domain.com") -AddLicenses domain:STANDARDWOFFPACK_STUDENT -LicenseOptions $myO365Sku}
    Then I need the script to output to a CSV file first query the AD to verify if the account exists. Currently it is just set up like this...
    #Outputs csv file to update EX
    Import-Csv C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv | select @{Name="Last_name";Expression={$_."LastName"}},@{Name="email";Expression={$_."mail"}},@{Name="id_num";Expression={$_."ID"}} | Export-Csv -Path c:\NewStudents\email-idnumupdate.csv –NoTypeInformation
    The very last thing the script does is to reset the newly created student AD password so MessageOps password sync utility can grab the new password.
    foreach($user in (import-Csv C:\NewStudents\o365-Students.csv))
    Write-Host "Setting Password for $($User.UPN)"
    $ds = new-Object System.DirectoryServices.DirectorySearcher([ADSI]"","(&(objectcategory=user)(sAMAccountName=$($user.UPN)))")
    $usr = ($ds.Findone()).GetDirectoryEntry()
    $usr.SetPassword($user.password)
    $usr.SetInfo()
    Any help with the truncating sAMaccountName and exporting CSV file after query of AD verifies the account is there would be extremely helpful. Also if an account is skipped/errors out to have it email me that the account was not created.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Truncating input example:
    Import-Csv .\userList.csv | ForEach {
    if ( ($_.SamAccountName).Length -gt 20 ) {
    $SamAccountName = $_.SamAccountName.Substring(0,20)
    else { $SamAccountName = $_.SamAccountName }
    $SamAccountName
    Verification and export to CSV example, assumes you're using the same input file which needs to be truncated:
    Import-Csv .\userList.csv | ForEach {
    if ( ($_.SamAccountName).Length -gt 20 ) {
    $SamAccountName = $_.SamAccountName.Substring(0,20)
    else { $SamAccountName = $_.SamAccountName }
    try {
    $userDetails = Get-ADUser -Identity $SamAccountName
    catch {}
    If ($userDetails) {
    $props = @{
    UserName = $SamAccountName
    ExistsInAD = 'YES'
    Else {
    $props = @{
    UserName = $SamAccountName
    ExistsInAD = 'NO'
    New-Object PsObject -Property $props
    Remove-Variable userDetails,props -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
    } | Sort-Object UserName | Export-Csv .\userVerification.csv -NoTypeInformation

  • Trying to take advantage of promo pricing for Cloud - does my current student version not qualify?

    The system is not accepting my serial number for registration to the Cloud's promotional product. Is it because my Student version of CS4 does not qualify for this promotion? (I am no longer a student - I'm trying to purchase the professional version) Or is something else up?

    The system is not accepting my serial number for registration to the Cloud's promotional product. Is it because my Student version of CS4 does not qualify for this promotion?
    Correct.
    That minor point is buried deep in the fineprint, rather than being prominently displayed on the front page where the offer is shown.

  • Cosigning Student Loans - Learn From My Mistakes - Please Read

    I have gone through a nightmare due to a student loan that I co-signed on, and I am creating this post in the hopes that you will learn from my mistakes. Please pass this post on to anyone who you think would benefit, and hopefully save them a lot of heartache and anxiety. My post is lengthy, but please be patient and read it, it could literally save your financial life.Briefly here is my situation: I am the co-signer on a $60K Sallie Mae private student loan where the primary borrower has defaulted on me, meaning they have told me they cannot pay a dime, have no intention of changing their lifestyle to do so, and will not tell me when, if ever, they will make good on this. Meanwhile, as the guarantor of the loan, I have been subjected to the full force of SM collection agency practices, and forced to face the music while the primary person on this loan can blissfully ignore the situation as if it was not happening. After multiple weeks of heartache, anxiety and worry over my financial future, I found in the fine print that if I make 24 consecutive on-time payments, then I am off the hook. I verified this with SM and am now 6 months into paying this off. As long as nothing unexpected occurs, I am looking forward to being off the hook in 18 months, having learned an expensive but not life altering lesson, as I was originally facing. Now let me go into some lessons, please pass these on to anyone you think would benefit - let's make this post the most widely read one on FICO forums, this is so important. And now my hard lessons learned:Lesson #1: DO NOT COSIGN A STUDENT LOAN: especially private student loans which carry higher interest rates. When you cosign a loan, you are the guarantor: you are putting your good credit profile on the line and telling the loan agency that you are responsible if anything ever happens with the primary borrower and they are unable to pay. All the obligations are on your shoulders, in fact, in many ways you are more responsible than the primary borrower, and this is how the loan and collection agencies will treat you. If you think: that's just the fine print, that will never happen, think again. It happens all the time, are you willing and able to take on this burden if you have to? Possibilities become reality, and this is a reality you do not want to be a part of, trust me on this. If you want to help someone, find other ways to do it outside of the system. Loan them the money as an individual, or pay their rent or expenses, that way, if problems arise, you don't have to get credit agencies, loan agencies, and collections agencies involved. If you are a parent and want to help your child, see Lesson #2.Lesson #2: LOAN ONLY WHAT YOU CAN LOSE: Every rule has exceptions, so the exception to Lesson #1 is this: only cosign on a loan if you are absolutely willing and able to pay off the full loan obligation. When you cosign you are lending your good name and credit profile, and you are effectively loaning money that you will have to pay back if the primary borrower defaults. In other words, never loan more than you are willing to lose, and therefore never cosign for more than you are willing to lose. And be willing to accept that the fact that your relationship with the primary borrower may be permanently damaged if you are forced to step in and cover their obligations.Lesson #3: LOANS GROW: I cannot emphasize this point enough, it really burned me: I did not co-sign a loan for 60K, I co-signed for 45K, and without my knowledge the primary borrower capitalized the interest during the first 18 months of the loan, which they were allowed to do, but it caused the loan to grow by 33%. So when it came time to guarantee the loan, I was on the hook for 60K, which I had never originally agreed to.Lesson #4: SALLIE MAE DOES NOT CARE: And why should they? This is business. As co-signer, you are the guarantor of the loan, you have to make good on the obligation when the primary borrower defaults. In fact, as guarantor, the loan and collection agencies will go after you harder than the primary borrower. Do you have a good credit and collateral, such as a house? Well this binds your obligation even more tightly. When loan and collections agencies see that you have the wherewithal to pay, they will not let you off the hook. And they don't care if paying off their loan puts you on the street. This is business and you have to pay up. Understand this black and white reality before you co-sign a loan. Lesson #5: DON’T DELAY PAYMENTS: Forbearance and deferments are often mentioned as options for helping out on loan obligations, but do not fall into this trap: they make a bad loan situation worse, they don't help. Deferment does not prevent interest from accumulating: you'll just have a bigger loan to pay when the deferment ends. Student loans typically give you a deferment grace period, usually 6 months, before you have to start paying back the loan. Most of us have to use this initial grace period, but please avoid it if you can, it just makes your loan grow larger. Forbearance is another method of delay, but it requires you to make the loan current before the loan agency can talk to you. In other words, you have to be paid up on what you currently owe before the loan agency will talk to you about forbearance. Think about this Catch-22: you can't pay your current loan obligations, so you ask the loan agency for help. The loan agency won't talk to you until you make the loan current. Never use deferment or forbearance, they make your bad situation worse. Lesson #6: NO LEGAL RECOURSE: Student loan debt is not dischargeable in bankruptcy court proceedings, it is debt that you will carry for life until it is paid off, regardless of what happens to you. And don't assume that the loan agency will only take legal action against the primary borrower in a default situation: they will also take legal action against you. Remember, you are equally responsible, you will be held legally accountable. And don't think that you can sue the primary borrower. You can only sue them if you have a separate promissory note with them, signed and notarized, that they have defaulted on. And even if you do, it is expensive and time-consuming to sue someone, especially if they have moved out-of-state, and practically impossible if they have moved out-of-country. You could probably never come out ahead, unless the amount owed was so large as to make it worth it. Unless you are wealthy, or a big organization, do not rely on your option to take legal action in the future, it's often just not practical. Lesson #7: WOULD I DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PERSON?: When you co-sign for a family member, there is a certain level of built in trust in the relationship, but when you co-sign for a friend, or girlfriend, or boyfriend, you are putting your faith in the future: faith that they will be around in the future and that they will always have your best interests at heart. Please wake up. People take advantage of other people all the time. Especially when it comes to money, people get scared and choose to hide under a rock, disappear, ignore the problem as if it does not exist. If you are the co-signer, you are the guarantor. If the primary borrower understands this, then they can choose to disappear and leave you holding the bag. Do not assume that the person who cares for you now will always care what happens to you. Business is business, personal is personal. When you are asked to co-sign for a loved one, ask yourself first: do I want to go into business with this person? How do they resolve conflict? If they get into trouble one day will they work with me? Or will they disappear on me? Do they have a conscience, and will they care how this affects me? Or will they see an opportunity to be off the hook? Ask yourself these hard questions. And don’t assume that they will think as responsibly as you. Don’t assume that they care what happens to their credit score, or what this means for the future. Treat the primary borrower as a person you are doing business with, and therefore someone who you need to rely on when times get tough. Chances are, you are the more responsible person here, so ask yourself, can I really afford to go into business with this person?Lesson #8: PROTECT YOURSELF: If your credit score gets damaged over a bad loan, your total financial life will be affected for a long time. It doesn't matter how good your intentions are, it doesn't matter why you got into a financial bind, it doesn't matter that your family member was sick, or that you were going through a hard time, or that you are low on money because you gave it all to charity. The current system of credit scoring requires you to keep your total financial profile in a healthy state at all times. If you are delinquent on payments, or worse, default on loan obligations, then your credit will suffer and you will be affected for a long time. You will be unable to qualify for loans, you will be unable to get good interest loans. Think about the effect this will have on your family in the future: not being able to afford a house for them because you can't get a loan, because you made a good faith error several years before. That's the reality you have to avoid, so protect yourself at all times.Lesson #9: AND FINALLY: Some people reading this will feel that I am missing the point: that of course loans carry obligations, and of course there are consequences if loan payments are missed. For the record, I relied on Sallie Mae loans to get me through college and grad school. I made all my payments on time, I paid my loans off, I even used the available 6 month deferment. But this only worked because I was responsible, because I had a plan, because I understood my monthly and total financial obligations at all times, and never made a life decision that would compromise my ability to pay. Cold reality: many people in this world are not responsible, they don't think through the consequences of their decisions, they are unable or unwilling to look at the hard facts. When you co-sign with one of these individuals, as I did, you are tethering your good name and your financial future to them. If they fail in their responsibility, they will take you down with them. Do not let this happen, protect yourself, you have worked too hard in your life to let an irresponsible person take you down. I hope you have found this posting useful. Please pass it on so that everyone can learn from my mistakes and hard-earned lessons.

    My heart goes out to you. My stomach was in knots for you just reading about your situation. Thanks for the lessons learned. I co-signed a private education loan with my ex husband. I wish I had someone like you back then to sit me down and make me really think. Unfortunately, I was young and naive and never thought twice about co-signing. Even though the original loan amount was small by most standards (less than $8000), here it is 10 years later and that stinking loan is still attached to my credit rating. It's barely halfway paid off with another 10 years to go. The ex is a bit of a deadbeat so after some late payments a few years ago, he has since only made the minimum payments. At this rate, I will be ready to retire when that stupid thing is paid and off my reports. I am very conscientious about my own financial health and have less than $1000 on a credit card, a little of my own student loans, and a reasonable mortgage. BUT because I am forever listed as co-signer of this silly loan, it actually drags down my FICO rating. I could suck it up and pay off the whole balance myself in a few months time....which causes me to feel sick to my stomach. Its my only option besides watching this thing languish for 10 more years.

  • More then one student license on same account

    Hello. Can i have more then one student license on same account. The 60% of thingy. One for home, one for work and one for the notebook. They may run simultaneously because of the friends using the computer. All 3 computers will use same account name and password.

    You may install software on up to two computers. These two computers can be Windows, Mac OS, or one each.
    If you install on a third computer, it will request you to de-activate on the other two computers.  You can then reactivate one of the previous two computers, and use Creative Cloud apps on it.
    If you regularly need to use the Creative Cloud on more than two computers then it would be best to purchase an additional subscription.  This is the same licensing btw which we have for our prepetual product.  An advantage though for Creative Cloud over the perpetual product is that you can install on Mac and Windows with the same subscription!
    As it stands, the EULA states that you can install it on up to two computers at a time, however, you cannot use applications on those computers simultaneously. This is the case even when you are not using the same application

  • How to legally buy US TV show to send to student overseas?

    This is your oddball question for the day. I am in the USA. My daughter attends an international program at a university in far northern Germany, and it's master's thesis time. The prof assigns the thesis topics to the students. They have no choice on their topic, as I understand it, and I'm getting the feeling he relishes making it as hard for the international kids as he can.
    Her Finnish friend has been assigned to write her thesis on the philosophy of some American TV show called The Bridge. It is not available on DVD yet, and no release date given, however, it is available on both Amazon and Itunes. Amazon's CSR says she can't download it from an overseas ISP because it's only licensed in the USA. I'm assuming it's likewise for Itunes.
    It's my understanding that if I download a show, and make a copy or a backup to send to her, that she must have my original Amazon or Itunes password to access it, even on a DVD, and I'm not real thrilled about sharing that with some kid I don't even know. But she's in a pickle.
    I thought of buying her a used Ipod Touch, creating a new iTunes or Amazon account, downloading it here, and shipping it to her there, but this seems awfully convoluted. Does anyone have a creative, legal suggestion? This student has little to no budget to work with, and I'd like to help her out, since she has no contacts in the US, other than her best friend's mom (me).
    Same prof assigned my daughter a thesis topic on books that are so rare and HTF we are scrambling to find them in any country. But at least they're BOOKS! Good old paper books do still have their advantages, it seems.
    Any advice appreciated. I'm quite sure there's ways to do this piratically, but I'd like to keep her on the legal side of things, since I assume she may have to show documentation or source material to her professor at some point.

    Google on dvr to Mac. I just did; it shows, for one thing, that different software may be needed depending on the provider. Many reads showed up after doing the Goobgle.

  • What are the advantages of moving from Tiger to Leopard?

    Hello all,
    I currently have an iBook G4 Mac with 1.25MB RAM and a 1.2GHZ processor running Tiger 10.4.11. I was thinking of upgrading to Leopard in order to get the longest life out of my system before I can afford a Mac. Before I take the pluge I'd like to consider what the advantages of the new operating system are, and it seems to me that the additional advantages are not too clear from the official documentation and Apple Store.
    My system will not run Snow Leopard from the system requirements that seem to be coming out so I think this would be the best step to keep my Mac going and compatible for new software that I use for student work, which is primarily musically orientated plugin's and software for midi controllers and mixing. Do you think it would be worthwhile upgrading my system and it will be fast enough for efficient use?
    Lastly if I do upgrade, what is the best way to install the new system while trying to preserve current applications and folders. Would it be best to use data migration to a external hard-drive and back again, or is there an easier way to maintain the system applications and files.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    See the list of the 300 new features in Leopard and then decide if they are worth it to you.
    Whenever I upgrade, I do an "archive & install". It will move your previous system files to a "previous systems" folder and install a new system from scratch. You can also have it preserve user and network settings, which is what I always do. It makes for a very smooth and reliable install with a minimum of fuss.

  • Why is the filter gallery greyed out in cs6 student teacher edition

    I have the teacher student edition of cs6 and can not access filter gallery and thus can not find artistic filter  I used to have the full edition cs4 and did have artistic brushes and filter gallery was not an issue .

    Working in 16bit is especially advantageous when one does extreme color/brightness corrections that might result in banding in 8bit.
    But the increased file size may make some files unwieldy in 16bit.
    Edit: And as you have noticed not all features work in 16bit.

  • How could having a mac book pro benefit me as a college student?

    how could having a mac book pro benefit me as a college student?

    To be honest, which computer platform you use isn't likely to make much of a difference.  You need a reliable system first and foremost.  Granted, low end Windows machines can be less reliable.  But I have found comparably spec'd Windows machines to perform as reliably.  It does take a little more work on the PC side with respect to maintainance and avoiding viruses.
    The most important thing is that you get a system that will allow you to do what you need to do.  If you're not familiar with using a Mac (and subsequently, OS X), the best time to learn isn't when you're in school.  You don't want to be spending time trying to figure out how to do something when you're up against a tight deadline.
    Unfortunately, many schools still use some Windows only applications.  The good news is that with a Mac, you can still natively run Windows, so there is no downside in going with a Mac.  You can have the compatibility with Windows that you may need and you'll also have your comfy Windows there if you run into something in OS X that you don't have the time to figure out.
    These forums are great for support, but sometimes you might need an answer "now" in the middle of the night while you're working on something, and it may take some time to get a helpful response.  In those cases, you'll be able to fall back on Windows.
    Over time, you'll find you can use Windows less and less and you'll start to get more comfortable with OS X.  The benefits to a Mac aren't so much in the hardware, but rather the OS.  It tends to be stable, clean, and efficient.
    Frankly, being proficient in multiple operating systems is always a benefit as well.  There may be Mac only applications out there that are better than their Windows counterpart.  With a Mac, you'll be able to use those programs... which people running Windows machines may not even know exist.  It's sort of like being able to speak a different language.  You can broaden your options.  Also, in today's job marketplace, any advantage you can have is a good one.

  • Student file & master data change according to authority

    Deal all,
    I have following requirements about student file and master data that certain IT are not displayed when i do not have authority.
    for example, if A student is belong to my department, IT1702 must be dislayed but student B is not belong to my department IT1702 must be disabled or must dissappear.
    if i can adjust student file & master data according authority (student belong to my department or not) it would be very nice.
    regards,
    jin dal

    Hi,
    The authorizations checks in Campus Management consist of the basic authorization and the structural HR authorization.
    The basic authorization determines whether the user is allowed to execute a certain function, while the structural authorization determines the objects for which the user is allowed to execute this function. In other words, the basic authorization defines what function the user is allowed to use, and the structural authorization defines for which objects the user is allowed to use this function.
    For example, the basic authorization can define that the user is allowed to perform the create module booking activity. With the structural authorization you can restrict this activity only to modules offered by the faculty of Mathematics, for example. (The user can then access these modules whenever required; see also Structural Authorization).
    Basic Authorization
    In release CM 4.64, three authorization objects are used in Campus Management:
    At the first level is the transaction code check. The system performs this check each time the user starts a transaction using the menu or command line. For this check to be successful, the user requires an authorization for the relevant transaction code in the authorization object S_TCODE.
    At the second level, the Campus Management function is divided into two parts. The first part includes activities such as create request, create registration, create re-registration, cancel module booking, and so on. The second part covers master data like student master data and a major part of the academic structure.
    When checking the authorizations for master data, the system uses the HR authorization object PLOG for master data authorization checks. A new authorization object ( P_CM_PROC) has been implemented for activities in release CM 4.64. The system now only checks whether the user is authorized to use the activity. It no longer checks if the user is authorized to read or change the data in this activity. The new authorization concept has the following advantages:
    It simplifies authorization assignment. The system no longer uses the comprehensive data model with its many objects and object interrelationships as the basis for the activity authorization (authorization assignment via authorization object PLOG);
    Changes in the data model have no effects on the authorization checks for activities;
    It is now possible to distinguish between create and change operations, for example in re-registrations;
    You can now distinguish between re-registrations and leaves of absence.
    The table T7PIQPROCESS (Activities) contains all Campus Management activities. The system performs authorization checks for all activities with the exception of the ones listed below.
    Authorization checkes are not performed for the following activities:
    AC10 (Send Reminder for Outstanding Payments)
    HSMA (Create Status Indicator Manually)
    PR11 (Create Applicability List Automatically)
    These activities do not contain any activity-related authorization checks.
    In the standard system, the authorization check for activities is independent of the objects for which the activities are performed, and of their attributes. (The structural authorization only restricts the objects which the user can then process irrespective of the activity.). If you require additional checks, you can use the business add-in HRPIQ00AUTHORITY.
    Structural Authorization
    The structural authorization enables you to define the set of objects the user is authorized to process. You determine these objects using evaluation paths. You can define whether the user should only be given a display authorization for these objects or a maintenance authorization as well.
    You cannot combine the structural authorization with the basic authorization. The user is therefore authorized to process the assigned set of objects irrespective of the function (s)he is currently using.
    Further notes
    As functions from other applications areas (Training and Event Management, Notification Processing) and from Student Accounting are integrated in Campus Management, users also need authorizations from these areas.
    Campus Management contains a number of roles which you can combine with the roles of other application areas to create composite roles. You can either assign a composite role or individual roles to users.
    Component Prefix of the roles provided
    Campus Management SAP_CM_
    Training and Event Management SAP_HR_PE
    Notification processing SAP_CA_NO_NOTIF
    Student Accounting SAP_FI_CA_
    You create the business partner authorizations in separate IMG activities which you can find in Customizing for Campus Management in Campus Management Master Data -> Students -> Students as Business Partners -> Basic Business Partner Settings -> SAP Business Partner -> Business Partner -> Basic Settings -> Authorization Management.
    In the SAP Reference IMG under Basis Components -> System Administration -> Users and Authorizations, you can find more IMG activities in which you can make general settings for authorizations.

    Hello V,
    The College Student Deals program certainly has some great offers and I would do almost anything to get a good deal on an iPad! Sorry to hear you haven’t received an email with these coupons. I would like to help you take advantage of those deals!
    Using your email address you provided here on the forums, I was able to see that you received some assistance in this matter today. Is that correct? Please let me know if you still need help with this and I will gladly look into it for you further.
    In the meantime, you may try checking your Junk/Spam folders in your .edu email address if you haven’t done so already. Also, I recommend speaking to your school’s IT department to see if they have been blocking the emails altogether, as this has been known to happen by certain schools. I should be able to supply you with the email address they are sent from if you need it for reference.
    I look forward to your response,

  • Mind answering some basic questions for a few bright HS students?

    I am a HS computer science teacher who seeks a professional mentor regarding JDBC. While I have successfully
    - installed a MySQL database,
    created, queried, updated the database,
    - read the Java Tutorial and:
    used Connect/J and written a main method to manipulate a
    database
    created very simple applets to query or update a database with
    their run methods.
    I have basic questions about how pieces fit together in web application development and how one can best take advantage of OOP when dealing with a database. My motivation are a few very bright post-AP students who have an excellent grasp of OOP and data structures; they are curious to see how Java is used in web applications.
    The sample code I have found on the Web has all been small main method examples. I would like to see and discuss a truly OOD application with JDBC, and to discuss how the pieces fit together.
    So, aware of our ignorance and of how dangerous a little knowledge can be, and not expecting to go live with an application anytime soon, we seek a very high level understanding of current professional practice (like: "Where does tomcat fit in here?") as well as some direction while we get our hands dirty. (I hope that makes sense.)
    If you have time to correspond with us via e-mail, answer some very basic questions, and perhaps take a look at some code as we work through it, we would love to hear from you off-line ([email protected]). We would also appreciate knowing where to look for a good OOD sample application. Thanks.

    Complete this tutorial and you will have a much better understanding.
