OA Framework Larger Numbers in view objects

Hi,
We have an OAF page with a simple table layout. One of the field allows user to enter a number. The next field is calculated automatically based on user input in the earlier field upon clicking save button.
An example is:
Field 1 (Number, user input) : 100
Field 2 (Constant): 20
Field 3(Derived): (Field 1 - Field 2) => 100 - 20 = 80
In one of the cases, user has enter an extremely large number value in the input field
Field 1: 100,000,000,000,000,000,000.00 (22 digit number)
Field 2: 1,620.22
The derived field value in this case appears as 100,000,000,000,000,000,000.00, same as field 1.
I notice that if the field 1 is having 21 digits, the subtraction happens but the decimal is rounded off. Here the field 2 is 9,999,999,999,999,998,000.00.
We have not used round, ceil or floor functions in the view object query. There is no specific number precision defined to the number fields in the VO.
In sql*plus, this can be avoided using 'set numformat '. How can we avoid this issue from the framework ?
Thanks,
Ashwin

Before you come to the above screen, it might have asked you for database credentials. There you need to provide the username and password. Then in the following screen(the screenshot you gave), just above the Tables, views etc checkboxes you can see a poplist called Database Schema with available schemas in the selected db.
If the EO wizard didn't ask for any db then you first needs to create a connetion in JDev with connections manager.

  • Creating and Accessing a Dynamic View Object

    Hi,
    I'm needing to create a Dynamic View Object so to have the ability to modify the FROM and WHERE clauses in an SQL statement.
    I then need to view all the columns and rows in an adf table or something similar.
    I've read up a fair bit on similar situations, however I'm struggling with the basic framework of building the View Object.
    I know I'm wanting to use ..createViewObjectFromQueryStmt..but just unsure of the syntax in using it, especially connecting the VO to an Application Module.
    This is similar to what I've got now, located in AppModuleImpl.java
        public void createDynVO(ApplicationModule appMod, String FROMclause, String WHEREclause){
        String SQL = "SELECT JOURNAL_NAME, PERIOD_NAME FROM " + FROMclause + " " + WHEREclause;
        ViewObject vo = appMod.createViewObjectFromQueryStmt("DynamicView", SQL);
        vo.executeQuery();But how does it know what the application module is?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    -Chris

    Ok, I've actually modified my approach to this.
    I've created a View Object in the design view, added it to the App Module, and then created an iterator and bound an adf table to that iterator.
    The View Object which I created has the same column names as what I am going to be getting later down the track.
    Everything is working perfectly, except that I can't seem to bind variables to the WHERE clause.
    Below is what I have got running:
        public void recreateDynView(String FromClause, String whereCompany, String whereDepartment) {
             String sql_PAGE_ITEM1 = " AND PAGE_ITEM1 LIKE :P_PAGE_ITEM1";
             String sql_PAGE_ITEM2 = " AND PAGE_ITEM2 LIKE :P_PAGE_ITEM2";
             findViewObject("DynamicView1").remove();
             String SQLStmt = "SELECT PAGE_ITEM1, PAGE_ITEM2, PAGE_ITEM3, LINE_ITEM FROM " + FromClause;
             ViewObject vo = createViewObjectFromQueryStmt("DynamicView1",SQLStmt);
             vo.setWhereClause("1=1");
               if (whereCompany != null && whereCompany.length()>0){
                   vo.setWhereClause(vo.getWhereClause() + sql_PAGE_ITEM1);
                   vo.defineNamedWhereClauseParam("P_PAGE_ITEM1",null,null);
                   vo.setNamedWhereClauseParam("P_PAGE_ITEM1",whereCompany);
               if (whereDepartment != null && whereDepartment.length()>0){
                   vo.setWhereClause(vo.getWhereClause() + sql_PAGE_ITEM2);
                   vo.defineNamedWhereClauseParam("P_PAGE_ITEM2",null,null);
                   vo.setNamedWhereClauseParam("P_PAGE_ITEM2",whereDepartment);
             vo.executeQuery();
           }However whenever I input a value into one of the bound variables, I get the following error on the page.
       1. JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: oracle.jbo.InvalidOperException, msg=JBO-25070: Where-clause param variable P_PAGE_ITEM1 needs ordinal index array.
       2. JBO-25070: Where-clause param variable P_PAGE_ITEM1 needs ordinal index array.In the view object which i created at design stage, I've set the binding style to Oracle Named, so it should be alright. But obviously since I'm removing the view object and creating another version of it, it doesn't have the same binding style attached by default?
    Is there a work around for this? I'm so close!

  • How To change the ADF View Object  query where-clause at RunTime?

    I am trying to create a simple display page which will display user data (username, assoc_dist_id, assoc_agent_id, status , etc). The User data is stored in a database table and i am using an ADF Read Only table based on the View Object to display the data on the JSF page.
    However, i want to display only the users that a particular person accessing the page has the AUTH LEVEL to see. e.g. If the person accessing the page is an 'ApplicationAdministrator' then the page should display all users in the table, If its a 'DistributorAdministrator' then the page should display only users associated with that Distributor (i.e. assoc_dist_id = :p_Dist_id ) and If its an 'AgentAdministrator' , then the page should display only users associated with that Agent ( i.e. assoc_agent_id = :p_Agent_id).
    Currently my af:table component displays all the users in the table because the query for the view object is (select * from users) . However, i want to use the same viewobject and just set the where-clause at runtime with the appropriate parameter to restrict the dataset returned.
    Do anyone knows how to accomplish this ?

    David,
    See the custom method initializeDynamicVariableDefaults() in the SRViewObjectImpl.java class in the FrameworkExtentions project in the SRDemoSampleADFBC sample application. You can find out how to install the demo if you haven't already from the ADF Learning Center at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html
    This class is a framework extension class for view objects that adds a neat, generic feature to be able to dynamic default the value of named bind variables. You can read more about what framework extension classes are and how to use them in Chapter 25, "Advanced Business Components Techniques" of the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers, also available at the learning center above.
    It is an example of generic framework functionality that "kicks in" based on the presence of custom metadata properties on a named bind variable. See section 25.3.3 "Implementing Generic Functionality Driven by Custom Properties" in the dev guide for more details. Using this sample code, if you add a bind variable to a view object, and define a custom metadata property named "DynamicDefaultValue" on that bind variable, and set this custom metadata property to the value "CurrentUser", then that bind variable will have its value dynamically defaulted to the name of the authenticated user logged in. If instead you set this custom property to the value "UserRole", then the bind variable will be set to the comma-separated string containing the list of roles that the authenticated user is part of.
    Once you've created a framework extension class for view objects like this, you can have the view objects you create inherit this generic functionality.See section 25.1.4 "How to Base an ADF Component on a Framework Extension Class" in the dev guide for more info on this.
    By adapting a technique like this (or some idea similar that better suits your needs) you can have your view object query contain bind variables whose values automatically take on the defaults based on something in the user-session environment.

  • A dynamic View object at runtime

    Say there is an inputtext component and one LOV. User will enter a number, say 7, and then press a Submit button. And then in the LOV, user will be able to see the numbers from 1 to 7.
    Is it possible to achieve the same?

    Hi,
    am not sure what exactly you are trying to achieve here,
    but from your description, it looks like a query dependency to me..
    So in your VO that will be used as the List of Values for the attribute you want, create a View Criteria that meets the requirement you want (seems like 'Less than or Equal To' is what you need).
    So eventually, you will end up with a ViewCriteria and one bindVarialble in that LOV View Object.
    Since you havent described your BC model, I can only assume that you have one main VO and both UI component are binded to attributes of that VO.
    Now go back to your main VO and update the LOV View AcCessor to use the ViewCriteria specifying the proper value on the Bind Variable.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Dimitrios.

  • Using EL to get values from View Objects

    Hello again!
    I' m using jdev 11.1.1.4.0, with adf and business components
    Is there any way i can get a value to an af:outputText from a view object's field without
    a) having to expose all fields that I need in bindings tab?
    b) having to declare all fields to a backing bean
    I have a statistical table with about 30 numbers in a record and it would make my project impossible to follow!
    Some EL on the af:outputText with a parameter to a function on my backing bean, would sound perfect, but I've read that it's impossible...
    Any clues?
    Thank you for your efforts!
    Nikos

    I did not understand you.
    will the drag and drop your attribute on your page will solve your problem?
    or do you need to create attributeValues biding for single attribute? if yes do the following:
    1- From your page, right click and select Go to Page Definition.
    2- From the binding section, click the plus green icon to create a new control biding, and choose attributeValues from the list.
    3- select your data source from the list or create a new one, then select the attribute you need.
    4- now you have a biding, and you can set the value for your output text.
    value =#{biding.yourAttribute.inputValue}

  • View Object in the link - CREATION

    Below is the table schema. master1, slave2, cat3 are in the LINK.
    Master1 -----> Slave2 ------> Cat3.
    (id) (id, masterId) (id, slaveId)
    We are having the UIX pages to traverse starting for Master1 and down to Cat3.
    We need to have a url that takes us directly to the Cat3 UIX page.
    ex : www.something.com/catsBrowse.do?catdId=xxx&slaveId=yyy&masterId=zzzz.
    I am trying to initialize the view object. But on executeQuery(). It gives an exception.
    How do I initialize it. Is there any samples available???
    - Thanks.

    Hi,
    using ADF:
    1. Create a page that shows data for cat3
    2. Using the ADF binding (e.f. accessing it from a Struts Action) obtain teh iterator for master1 and set it to a specific row.
    3. Do the same for Detail 2
    4. Navigate to page cat3
    Note that you don't need to access teh VO drectly but can handle this all through the binding framework

  • ADF - View Objects

    Hi All,
    We are working on building a web application using on ADF.
    The landing page of our application is a dashboard screen that is read-only with 100 to 500 records displayed in a table.
    User can move to other pages and create requests.
    1) When user is on dashboard and moves to other pages of the application, is there a way to release the memory used by view objects and underlying entity objects used by the views used to display the dashboard? Another point here is, our application requirement is to refresh the data from database when user moves between screens. Even if user switches back to dashboard screen after moving to other screen the data needs to be queried anyway. So for better memory management of the application we would like to release the memory for GC when user leaves our dashboard screens.
    Another question I have is:
    2) When a application module passivation occurs, will there be a snapshot taken for all view rows and entity caches or will it be only for pending DB state - entities added/modified/deleted? - We have lot of cases in our application where we display read-only dashboards and I am trying to understand if we can turnoff the passivation on view objects used to display read-only data if passivation deals with only pending DB state.
    Please suggest.

    Note that premature optimization can be contra-productive and often is the root of all evil. In other words, as long as you don't experience performance problems, I would let the framework do its job - so be careful wanting too much without a reason. Anyway, to clear the entity cache (and this is the only memory you need to bother for) you can call  <ApplicationModuleInstance>.getTransaction().clearEntityCache(String entityName);
    clearEntityCache
    public void clearEntityCache(java.lang.String entityName)
    Clears the cache of the specified Entity Object. A value of null clears the caches of all Entities. If a View Object uses the Entity Object, the View Object's cache will be cleared as well.
    Parameters:
    entityName - the name of the entity whose cache is to be cleared. If null, caches for all entities are cleared.
    Passivation is for pending changes only and not for all queried data. You define passivation on the AM level and you can switch it off there. In this case I suggest you use an Application Module that speacifically holds the dashboard queries.
    Since performance is your concern I recommend you reading:

  • How to Use Transient View Objects to Store Session-level Global Variables

    hi
    Please consider section "40.8.5 How to Use Transient View Objects to Store Session-level Global Variables"
    at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/b31974/bcstatemgmt.htm#ADFFD19610
    Based on this documentation I created the example application
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/ProgrammaticalViewObjectAndRollbackApp-v0.01.zip
    It behaves as show in the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/qDvSQCgpvYdd
    Its Application Module has a Transient View Object instance "MyEmployeesContextVOVI", as master for the child View Object instance "EmpInCtxJobVI".
    On rollback the Transient View Object instance keeps its row and attribute values.
    Also when passivation and activation is forced (using jbo.ampool.doampooling=false ) the Transient View Object instance seems to keep its row and attribute values.
    questions:
    - (q1) Why does the expression #{bindings.MyEmployeesContextVOVIIterator.dataControl.transactionDirty} evaluate as true when a Transient View Object instance attribute value is changed (as shown in screencast at http://screencast.com/t/qDvSQCgpvYdd )?
    - (q2) What would be a robust approach to make a Transient View Object instance more self-contained, and manage itself to have only one single row (per instance) at all times (and as such removing the dependency on the Application Module prepareSession() as documented in "5. Create an empty row in the view object when a new user begins using the application module.")?
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

    Thanks for your reply Frank.
    q1) Does sample 90 help ? http://blogs.oracle.com/smuenchadf/examples/
    Yes, the sample from Steve Muench does help, "90. Avoiding Dirtying the ADF Model Transaction When Transient Attributes are Set [10.1.3] "
    at http://blogs.oracle.com/smuenchadf/examples/#90
    It does point out a difference in marking transactions dirty by different layers of the framework, "... When any attribute's value is changed through an ADFM binding, the ADFM-layer transaction is marked as dirty. ...".
    This can be illustrate with a small change in the example application
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/ProgrammaticalViewObjectAndRollbackApp-v0.02.zip
    It now shows the result of both these expressions on the page ...
    #{bindings.MyEmployeesContextVOVIIterator.dataControl.transactionDirty}
    #{bindings.MyEmployeesContextVOVIIterator.dataControl.dataProvider.transaction.dirty}... where one can be true and the other false respectively.
    See also the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/k8vgNqdKgD
    Similar to the sample from Steve Muench, another modification to the example application introduces MyCustomADFBCDataControl
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/ProgrammaticalViewObjectAndRollbackApp-v0.03.zip
    public class MyCustomADFBCDataControl
      extends JUApplication
      @Override
      public void setTransactionModified()
        ApplicationModule vApplicationModule = (ApplicationModule)getDataProvider();
        Transaction vTransaction = vApplicationModule.getTransaction();
        if (vTransaction.isDirty())
          super.setTransactionModified();
    }Resulting in what seems to be more consistent/expected transaction (dirty) information,
    see also the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/756yCs1L1
    Any feedback on why the ADF Model layer is so eager to mark a transaction dirty is always welcome.
    Currently, question (q2) remains.
    regards
    Jan

  • How do I obtain the next number for a Primary Key using an ADF View Object?

    I have two separate View Objects (A & B) for the same Entity Object. View Object A does a SELECT on all of the fields in the table. This View Object is where I execute my adds and updates. View Object B is only used to retrieve the next number for the primary key. This is done so that when I add a row to the database, I always get the max number of the primary key and add one to it. I accomplished this by setting the SQL mode to Expert and using the SQL: "SELECT MAX(NBR) AS MAX_NUMBER FROM TABLE_1". This may be overkill having a seperate View Object for this, but so far this is the only way I have found to obtain the next number. However, I have discovered that this way does not always work.
    The problem I'm running into is when I try to add multiple records to View Object A without committing the transaction between each add. Because View Object B is disconnected from View Object A, the MAX_NUMBER of View Object B comes back with the same number for each add I do on View Object A. So I know I must retrieve the MAX_NUMBER from View Object A.
    I've tried using the following code in my Table1ViewImpl class:
    this.setQuery("SELECT MAX(Table1.NBR) AS MAX_NUMBER FROM TABLE_1 Table1");
    this.executeQuery();
    The view object now has what I want, but I have yet to figure a way to extract the MAX_NUMBER out of the View Object. I've also looked into using the method addDynamicAttribute() but I can't figure out any way to set the attribute with the MAX_NUMBER.
    I can't be the only one trying to retrieve the next number from a database table using ADF. Can anyone help me with this? FYI - I'm using JDev 10.1.3 EA.

    You missing the point.
    On a multi-user db knowing the next highest number doesn't guarantee the number will be available when it comes time to commit the record. You can prove this to yourself by opening two instances of your app and do whatever you do to add a new record to your VO. Both will assume the same number, and when you commit an error will be generated
    You must use sequences to avoid the possibility of duplicate keys. If you are trying to avoid gaps in your numbering then you need to convince yourself why this is necessary.

  • Changing a Programmatic View Object's query at run-time

    Hi,
    I've created a programmatic View Object using the information in '35.9.3 Key Framework Methods to Override for Programmatic View Objects' in the Oracle Middleware Fusion Guide and bound it to a BarChart. This has worked fine using the following:
    String myColumn = "Quant1";
    protected void create() {
    getViewDef().setQuery(null);
    getViewDef().setSelectClause(null);
    setQuery(null);
    String myQuery = "SELECT Service as MyService, " + myColumn + " as MyValue FROM ColumnTestTable WHERE 1 = 1";
    getViewDef().setQuery(myQuery);
    setQuery(myQuery);
    I also have my data updating automatically. I have public properties in my viewObjImpl class which I can set and update the value of myColumn. I then thought it would just be a case of re-calling the create() method and the SQL would be updated and my chart would auto-update using the new column to select it's values, the value of the property updates and the create method is called but the chart doesn't display any different data and stops auto-updating. Does anybody know if this is possible and if so what I may have missed?
    Cheers, Tom

    Hi Timo,
    I moved everything to a different public method and solved the problem by firing the execute() method which I hadn't been doing previously and the chart updates with the correct data.
    However, once I execute the SQL my chart stops auto-updating with changes to the data in the database - do you know how I update the SQL query but keep my chart auto-updating? Perhaps I have to re-register for the registerDatabaseChangeListener for the query collection?
    Thanks in advance, Tom

  • Is it possible the query in view object is dynamic?

    Is it possible the query in view object is dynamic?
    Generally, make the column list dynamic.
    I think this is related to whether view object can be assembled at runtime based on a dynamic cursor in a procedure?
    I ask this because I would like to know how we can use OA framework to simulate crosstab workbook in Discoverer?
    Anybody has some clues, please advise.
    Thanks.

    Hi Shay,
    Let me tell you briefly... I am sending input as customerId,customerNumber,CustomerName to the web service, if the record is available i am getting the response and i am displaying those records on page as a table. Now when i click a row i need to populate another table with all sale orders of that customer. From webservice datacontrol i have only customer object, I dont have Sales Order Object. For this i need master detail relation. In this case how to proceed. Thats why i am thinking to create a vO and EO object for sales orders table and i want to create view link for this sales order and customers. As i don't have customer VO and EO object to create view link.

  • Problems creating extension (View Object) in JDeveloper 9.0.3.5

    Note: I originally posted this on the JDeveloper forum - but I was told to post it in this forum.
    This is on Windows XP Pro SP2 with JDeveloper 9.0.3.5 - patch 6469392 (appropriate for 11.5.10.6).
    I'm trying to create an extension for a view object for the Oracle Applications Framework. I've exported the appropriate MDS repo contents to my system using export. One of the first issues I've seen is the step where I import the the business components XML file (server.xml) and I get the following warning:
    Warning: This Business Components Package was built with an earlier version of Oracle Business Components for Java. Unable to upgrade since it is readonly. oracle.apps.pos.isp.server
    I've encountered these strange "readonly" errors all along the way. When I try to create the VO itself, I notice the wizard is in readonly mode, preventing me from associating query columns with view attributes (I cannot change a view attribute for a query column for many of the query columns). Why are things in readonly mode?

    I've seen is the step where I import the the business components XML file (server.xml) and I get the following warning:
    Warning: This Business Components Package was built with an earlier version of Oracle Business Components for Java. Unable to upgrade since it is readonly. oracle.apps.pos.isp.server
    Ans : VO , EM and AM related xml files not need to import to MDS, only PG and Region related xml file need to import to MDS.

    Thank you very much

    Is it a seeded view or a custom view? Ideally, in OAF you do parameter binding in the style
    organization_id = :1
    Also make sure to call setWhereClauseParams(null) on your view object before going for binding.

  • Using a polymorphic view object with binding

    Hi,
    I'm hoping there's something simple I'm missing when trying to setup up the bindings for a ADF/struts page using a polymorphic view object.
    I'm using Entity and VO polymorphism to create a Question which has different types - boolean, multi-choice, likert, etc. I have the various question types created as sub type entity and view objects and added to the app module - when added to the app module the question types are subtypes of QuestionView so they don't actually appear in the Data Controls palette. This setup is like that used in Steve Muench's examples (blog at http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/02/06/constructingTheDesiredEntityInAPolymorphicViewObject.html and the related undocumented one)
    My question is, how do I get to the data and have jdev create the necessary bindings for the extra attributes the subtype questions have? Since they don't appear as available data controls I can't create a binding iterator or anything for them - short of adding them as spearate view objects (which destroys the whole point of using polymorphism in this case) is there a way to do this?
    Really, the only reason I want to use the polymorphism is so I can have different types of entity validation depending on the type. Should I just simplify this to be one entity object with one VO and put all the validation into "if else's" based on a discriminator?
    Assistance appreciated...

    How else are you planning to associate a JUTableBinding to the 'common' iterator containing all four types of rows and then selectively display them? Perhaps you'd need a custom model over the JUTabelModel that'd filter the rows out.
    I'm not sure if all that trouble is worth it given that your datasets (as far as mentioned in this post) are not large. If these tables/data has to be refreshed/executed a number of times, then you may see the overhead of four queries otherwise it should be fine as database is always faster in filtering rows than doing that in memory.
