OBIEE 11.1.1.7 Stability

Just wanted to find out early thoughts on how stable / bug free OBIEE 11.1.1.7 is. I'll post updates as we continue to test.
Thanks,
Scott

Hi,
New Presentation Features
1) Recommended Visualizations Feature for Creating Views
•When you create a view, you can choose a recommended view type based on the data in your analysis and, optionally, what you want to use it for (for example, to analyze trends).
•You can choose a suggested "Best Visualization" as well as a "Recommended Subtype". Or you can instead choose the "Recommended Visualization" option, for which you specify your intent for the new view.
2) Breadcrumbs
•Breadcrumbs have been added to help users understand their current location within Oracle BI content and the path that they have used to navigate Oracle BI content.
•Breadcrumbs display at the bottom of the page, and users can click a breadcrumb or the breadcrumb overflow button to navigate to a specific location on their breadcrumb trail.
3) Enhancement to Dashboards
•The ability to create custom print layouts for high-fidelity printing of dashboard pages (i.e. automatic creation BI Publisher reports)
•A new default style called FusionFX (instead of "blaf")
•The addition of the Freeze Column option to the Column Properties menu. This option allows you to freeze a column at an edge (top or left) of a dashboard layout
•The addition of "Size" and "Page Size" options that allow you to control the position and size of columns and sections
•The ability to export an entire dashboard or a single dashboard page to Microsoft Excel 2007+
•A new "Replace Analysis in <Dashboard>" option added to Answers to replace an analysis on a dashboard
•A new "Return to <Dashboard>" option within Answers to return to a dashboard from the Analysis editor
4) Enhancements to Graphs
•3 new graph types: Waterfall graph, Stacked graph and 100% Stacked graph (the latter two are subtypes of Bar and Area graphs)
•Zoom to data range. This option lets the system evaluate the range of values on an axis, and choose appropriate minimum and maximum values for the scale. This is useful when graphing a set of large values that are all within a small percentage of each other
•Hide sliders in graph views that listen to master-detail events. For graphs in master-detail relationships, if you want to simplify the appearance of an analysis or dashboard, you can hide the slider that is created to accommodate detail columns
5) Enhancements to Views
•A new view type named performance tile. This view type displays a single aggregate measure value in a manner that is both visually simple and prominent
•Action links in trellis views. In simple trellis views, action links can now be used on inner graphs per unit, including the context of the outer edges. Action links can also be used in legends and in axis labels. In advanced trellis views, action links can be used in microcharts, where the microchart functions as a single unit (such as an aggregate number), including the context of the outer edges
•For map views, you can now vary the width of a line by measure to accentuate a feature
•You can link a map view as a detail in a master-detail relationship
•Auto Correct option for Map views (as errors in Map views can occur for various reasons). If the issue appears to be related to missing layers, maps, or styles, then it might be possible to correct the map by replacing the missing map view components with similar items that exist in the spatial metadata
•Legend and formatting highlighting
•Null suppression at view and analysis levels. You can set null suppression options at the view level (which overrides the analysis level) for data views including: table, pivot table, trellis (both simple and advanced), graph, gauge, and funnel views when the entire row or column contains nulls
•Ability to include or exclude calculated items and groups at the view level for columns and column headers. Specifically, two new options have been added: Include Custom Member and Exclude Custom Member
For tables, pivot tables, and advanced trellises:
•The ability to ◦specify the method to be used to browse data — either scrolling or paging controls
•Resize rows and columns
•Row count. If your table or pivot table view contains a grand total or subtotal on the row edge, the display totals, that is the grand total and subtotals, are now included in the Rows per Page count for content paging. In prior releases, if you had the Rows per Page count set to 10 for example, the table or pivot table would display more than 10 records if display totals were shown in the view results
•For right-click interactions, the ability to specify whether the Hide Columns interaction is available at runtime
6) Enhancements to Prompts
•This release includes an enhancement to the SQL Results prompt option. If you are working with double columns, you can now write the SQL statement so that filtering is done on code values rather than display values
•An enhancement to the prompt constraint option. The prompts designer can now limit a column prompt value list by more than one column
•This release includes enhancements to the parameters for prompted links
7) New Menu Options for Exporting Views and Results
This release adds the Excel 2007+ and Powerpoint 2007+ options for exporting views and results
8) Total Member Placement for Hierarchical Columns
This release includes an enhancement that allows placement of total members on a hierarchy
9) Browse Catalog Search Results by Object Attributes
The capability to use full-text search to find catalog objects and then filter the search results by attributes. This search is available when the administrator integrates Oracle BI Enterprise Edition with Oracle Endeca Server. After the full-text search results are returned, the Catalog area displays a list of matching items, and the Search pane displays the search results grouped by attribute (that is, Type, Name, Path, and Created By)
10) Navigate from the Total or Grand Total in a Table or Pivot Table
If an analysis contains a total or grand total and the associated attribute or hierarchical column contains an action link or a conditional action link, the action link (or conditional action link) is applied to both the column and the total or grand total
11) New BI Desktop Tools Available for Download
•Oracle Hyperion Smart View for Office
•Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio (if Essbase is installed)
•Oracle Essbase Studio Console (if Essbase is installed)
•Oracle Essbase Administrative Services Console (if Essbase is installed)
12) Enhancement to Favorites
This release provides the capability to organize your favorites from the Category Tree area and the Selected Category area in the Manage Favorites dialog. In previous releases, you could organize favorites from the Category Tree area, only
13) Integration of Oracle BI EE with Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System

New BI Mobile Features
14) Maximize views with double-tap gesture
With this new feature, you can access on your iPad more data—even within dense dashboards—without the restrictions of the smaller form factor. You expand an individual view by double-tapping on it. The individual view then displays within the full screen of the iPad. This maximizing of views can be done on views accessed within a dashboard, and also when viewing an analysis independent of a dashboard. See "Working with Analyses and Dashboards."
15) New view and graph types
The following new graph types are supported with BI Mobile: Performance tiles, Waterfall graphs, 100% stacked graph, Stacked graph
16) Fixed headers
In analyses with fixed headers, you can use a single-finger drag gesture to scroll through data in all directions
17) Changing Orientation
It is now possible to change between landscape and portrait orientation while viewing Oracle BI content
18) Breadcrumbs
You can see the navigation path you have taken while moving through the catalog as a trail of breadcrumbs (near the top of the screen by the Back arrow). In this way, you can see your current location and how you got there, then decide whether to use the Back arrow to navigate in reverse, or to use the Home icon to quickly return to the Home screen
19) Security toolkit
The Oracle Business Intelligence Mobile Security Toolkit provides the ability to generate a signed version of the Oracle BI Mobile HD application. The toolkit includes the instructions and necessary content to build this application making use of Apple's Xcode and the IOS SDKs. The Oracle BI Mobile Security Toolkit will be updated on a regular basis in order to synchronize with the Oracle BI Mobile HD application available on the Apple App store. See "Using the Security Toolkit for Mobile Device Management."
20) Viewing of Oracle BI Publisher reports in dashboards
21) Integrated Full-Text Catalog Search
As in the desktop version of Oracle BI EE, you can use full-text search to find catalog objects in Oracle BI Mobile based on attributes such as author and column name. This search is available after the administrator integrates Oracle BI Enterprise Edition with Oracle Endeca Server

  • Installing OBIEE 11g on OEL 5u5 64 bit : invalid entry CRC

I am trying to install OBIEE 111130 64 on a Virtual Box with OEL 5 update 5 64 bit but I cannot get past an "invalid entry CRC" error.
I managed to get the RCU running. I managed to get the Weblogic running as a separate install using the Sun JDK 64 bit. But the OBIEE Software Only install keeps running in the "invalid entry CRC" error (as does any other type of install available).
I tried downloads from OTN and eDelivery, but both sites seem to give me faulty downloads that fail with this error (though cksum says all is well).
I tried default unarchive tool in OEL5 as well as the Oracle 'recommended' tool from eDelivery to see if that made any difference but that did not help.
I tried unarchive tool as well as Stuffit on Apple host but that also did not make any difference.
Has anyone ever had this problem and found a (repeatable) solution, or does really know how to get past this ?
Has anyone ever installed OBIEE 111130 64 on OEL 5u5 64 bit, by the way ? Does Oracle support it (I could not find a clear answer).

    Well, I found the solution.
First of all : download from eDelivery using a cable connection (and not a wireless connection) for optimal stability of your download.
Then : run the MD5 and SHA-1 checks to see if you really got what you wanted.
Then, in Virtualbox for the Oracle Enterprise Linux 5u5 64bit guest OS : set its memory to 2Gb MAX !!!
I noticed that I kept running into memory allocation problems (no more CRC's now, hurray!) that said that the host was out of memory. That surprised me because I have 8Gb onboard and the Virtualbox was set to use only 3584MB (also strange, Virtualbox does not allow for more ...). But that was too much apparently because ALL my memory was consumed somehow.
Then start your Virtualbox not via the window application but by using the following commandline:
    Virtualbox -startvm <yourboxname>
This way you get messages on the commandline you would otherwise not see.
By the way, I run Virtualbox on a Mac Book Pro with 8 Gb or RAM.
And then in your Virtual machine unpack your freshly downloaded zips using one of the unzippers 'recommended' by Oracle (see the last lines of the eDelivery page).
After setting all this the Software Only installation of OBIEE 11g went well, but ... I had to run the installer with an extra parameter that I only discovered after studying the .sh script:
    *./runInStaller -jreloc <java-64bit-home-dir>*
This -jreloc parameter points to the home directory where I installed (as root) my Sun Java 64bit JDK. In this way I ensured that my installation process uses the proper JVM.
The parameter is not documented (as far as I can see) but can be found in the runInstaller script. So I tried it and it worked like a charm.
When I did some more investigation I found out that Virtualbox (as well as VMWare Fusion) on the Mac are 32bit applications that might run 64bit guests, but always with restrictions somewhere as is seems. Now VMWare Fusion allows for more than 3.5Gb of memory to allocate to a VM, but I have not tried that yet (but I will soon).
Nevertheless, be it the Mac that messes up memory allocation to a 32bit app or be it Virtualbox that messes with memory, the lesson learned is to be cautious with large amounts of memory in Virtualbox. At least I can continue installing OBIEE 11g and make my customer happy.
    Zoef zoef.

  • OBIEE Presentation Service unable to start by a batch job

We are using OBIEE 10.3.4.1 in clustered environment with two BI servers and two presentation servers. We bounce the all the services on daily basis using windows batch job. Presentation Service on one of the bi presentation servers is failing with the following information in the Windows Event Log (We don't see any specific log in presentation server logs). When we start manually then it starts without any problems. It is happening only in production that's why it is critical. Please advise ASAP.

    Thank you,

IMHO you shouldn't be restarting services on a daily basis. The only reason I can think off you will be doing that is to hide away real issues, such as memory leaks or stability issues. We run OBIEE in Linux and we have no need to restart services at all. In some cases the services have been running for several months without failing. We do use the autorestart option which means that the process will restart automatically should it crash, which sometimes happens. Unfortunately this option is not available on Windows, perhaps it is testament on the robustness and the Production readiness of that OS?
I would think your issue is either due to the account you are using to run the scheduled batch job or a timing issue where you need to give the service a few seconds between stop/start to clear all file handles. But still it's very bad practice to do what you do, especially if you are running in cluster mode which should give you HA.

  • Error while running a KPI Watchlist in obiee 11g dashboard

I am getting the following error while running a KPI Watchlist :
*" Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW) "*
I added two KPI's (KPI 1 & KPI 2)into that Watchlist , one from the default "Sample Sales Lite" (sub 1) and another from sub 2 which have essbase as data source .
KPI 1 (created from sub 1) is working fine , but while placing KPI 2 (created from sub 2 ) in the watchlist , its throwing the above error . However , while running KPI 2 individually , its showing meaningful results .
Let me know if the problem statement is not clear .
    OBIEE version used : 11.1.1.5.0 .

Could anyone reply this thread. I am also getting the same error . Even server logs are also not helping.

  • OBIEE 11g - without going to Sawbridge first.....

If you called OBIEE via the default path: http://domain-name/analytics?NQuser=xxx&NQpassword=xxxx
    instead of
    http://domain-name/analytics/saw.dll?NQzuser=xxx&NQpassword=xxxx
would your credentials be checked by weblogic before the default login jsp has access to the request parameters or after?
Or does weblogic/OBIEE  stop you passing parameters to the default URL?
What I'm trying to say is, if you go via the default domain without calling saw.dll first can you pass an encrypted password to your bespoke login.jsp (default.jsp) within the analytics domain and get this default.jsp
to convert the password to plain text and then this default.jsp calls (forwards) to saw.dll....

I have been trying to log in with my YouTube account name and password like usual. I just tried using my gmail log in and it works. Did they merge or something? It was working yesterday just fine without me changing the way I logged in. Either way, thanks for the help! Works great now

  • Error while creating Bi presentation service in obiee(11.1.1.3)

    Hi,
    Im using Jdeveloper(11.1.1.5) and OBIEE(11.1.1.3)
I created a ADF application in Jdev and when I try to create a BI presentation services I'm getting the following error message.
    *Connection attempt failed.*
*java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to retrieve logon token. This version requires a BI build that implements the version 7 SOAP interface. Please verify that you are using the correct BI version.*
does the creation of presentation service in jdev(11.1.15) work only with OBIEE(11.1.1.5) and not OBIEE(11.1.1.3).
    please help!
    Thanks,

    Venky,
The SOAP interface released with OBIEE 11.1.1.3 is version 6 (v6) as you can see from its WSDL URL.
This would leave one only to believe that the SOAP interface released with OBIEE 11.1.1.5 is version 7.

  • How to embed user credentials in Secured Web Service from OBIEE 11gFMW?

I am trying to invoke a webservice that I successfully exposed as a WSDL Web Service using EBS Integrated SOA Gateway. I am using OBIEE 11g Action Framework which uses WebLogic.
Here are the steps I completed:
    - I exposed a WSDL web service in EBS R12 via Integrated SOA Gateway
    - I granted the access to this service in EBS R12 to user SYSADMIN
    - I used OBIEE 11g to make a Action to call the Web service (using Action Framework) by searching for the WSDL
    - When I try to execute the action: I get the error:
    Action could not be invoked.
    ServiceExecutionFailure :
Error invoking web service HR_PHONE_API_Service at endpoint http://ip-10-87-33-3.ec2.internal:8000/webservices/SOAProvider/plsql/hr_phone_api/ Missing <wsse:Security> in SOAP Header
PROBLEM: I am unsure how to add the credentials for SYSADMIN user and password to add the SOAP username/pwd to the outgoing call. According to the documentation in the Integrators guide, FMW Security guide, and Web Logic guides..seems we have to configure the SOAP call to have the proper credentials. The documentation is not very clear on exactly how to do this. I tried to set up the credential store and an account in ActionFrameWorkConfig.xml but I am still missing something. I am logged into OBIEE as biadmin and I am trying to call a webservie in EBS that is granted to SYSADMIN/sysadmin user. Pls advise.

  • Date Variable in Obiee 11g

    Hi All,
I have created a dynamic repository variable that gives the current date. The date is given in the following format 'MM/DD/YYYY'. This is format that I want the date to appear in. In the presentation catalog, I have created a presentation variable dashboard promt called StartDate, that defaults to the repository variable CurrentDate. I have also created a report that has a number of measures filtered in different ways. If we take one of the measures in the report, what I have done is edited the formula to filter the measure by reported_date>Date'@{StartDate}'.
Now when I got and see my dashboard I get an error, 'Datetime value 06/07/2011 from 06/07/2011 does not match the specified format'. However when I click 'Apply' on the prompt, the error does not appear and it just says that there is no data for this report.
Can someone please help me solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    Nikita

I solved this issue by using steps listed here http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/cast_as_date.
    Thanks

    Hi ,
I normally do this to fix this problem
1>Disable the network , keep the loopback adaptor enabled and then restart the services.
2> You can enable the network after services are restarted.
If you want a more practical solution and dont want to disable network again and again, then you would find the blog below useful.

    Hope this help.

  • Error in Privileges of OracleSystemUser in OBIEE 11g

    Hi,
We are encountering an error with OracleSystemUser.
The policy referenced by URI "oracle/wss_username_token_client_policy" could not be retrieved as connection to Policy Manager cannot be established at "t3://servername:7001,servername:9704" due to invalid configuration or inactive state.

The operation will be retried.>*
After successfully integrating Active Directory in Weblogic, the error was triggered while implementing privileges to dashboard objects. Currently, we can login to Weblogic and EM but we cannot login to Analytics. All logs in the BI Server and Admin Server logs show the above error.
    Please help, thank you

  • OBIEE 11g: Dashboard Javascript Issue

    Hi Gurus,
We have upgraded obiee from 10g to 11g and finding issues with javascript in a dashboard.
Functionality: There are some custom labels showing prompt values in it with large font. When user change prompt value and Apply, it should change the value of those text as well.
In 10g its running fine, but in 11g its not happening after we change the value of prompts. I found the following Javascript is responsible for this functionality. Even I saw one thread to suggest the exactly same code, but in 10g.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    (function(){
    var tblTag = document.getElementsByTagName('table');
    var tdElem= document.getElementsByTagName('td');
    for(m=0;m<tdElem.length;m++){
    if(tdElem[m].className=='GFPSubmit'){tdElem[m].childNodes[0].tBodies[0].rows[0].cells[0].childNodes[0].childNodes[0].innerHTML='Run Report';
    }//close if statement
    }//close for loop
    }// close function clickVal()
    </script>
    Thread:
Change Go Button Text on Prompt Only
I need to understand what its actually doing? and Does it really work in 11g? Whats the alternative code?
    Thanks in advance.

In 10g these are the html objects, after upgrade you need to know the html objects for that report based on that you need to modify javascript code.
From given code, activity is doing on these objects; You need to find out the equivalent object name for 'GFPSubmit' in 11g.
    GFPSubmit
    table
    td
    If make sense mark
