OBIEE 11g BI presentation services down

Hi,
When i attempted to start BI services for 11g I got the following error
Error 500 Internal Server Error
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol - HTTP/1.1
10.5.1.500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request
when i checked the status it shows

OBIEE 11g as a service in windows

Here are the steps to configure OBIEE 11g as windows service.
Admin server and bi server needs to be configured as service.
Create boot.properties files with weblogic admin username and password in security folder.
Here are the changes I made to make it work. I created two copies of installsvc.cmd file in wls_home/server/bin and renamed them to be used in scripts and make changes.
One for admin server and other for node manager (bi server).

Create service say OracleOc4j
Needs basic parameters setup
Cmdline and Home

OBIEE Presentation Service Down itself.

I am facing this issue since a week, we have created an SR with Oracle, But till now did not found a solution.
Problem is Oracle BI Presentation Service get down automatically, and we need to start it again through Enterprise Manager.
after looking into the log, we are not sure that this is the main reason, but for your reference I am giving the obips log file here.

OBIEE11g Presentation services down

Hi Experts,
I have installed OBIEE 11g(11.1.1.6) on my Laptop ( Windows-7 64 Bit).. All the components are up & running except the "coreapplication_obips1"..
Error messages are as follows:
when I am trying to access http://XXXXXX:7001/analytics/ getting below error.

I have an issue with the Administrator user.
I was able to login to Answers with Administrator user but from last week on words we are unable to login to Answers but to able to login to Administrator tool in online mode with Administrator user.
We created the test user with in Admin consloe and able to login to Answers with that user.
For Administrator user we did below steps:
1. Deleted the Administrator folder in the webcat.
2. Recreated the Administrator user in the Admin consle.
3. GUID refresh
but still unable to login. Could you please help me here.
it is a clustered environment.

OBIEE 11g Report-When drilling down to lower level, totals are not matching

Hi All,
I am creating a report in Analytics 7.9.6.3 , OBIEE 11g - Let’s say Budget Cost/Actual Cost based on the Date Dimension
Have selected the Fiscal Year Dim, Fact Budget Cost, Fact Actual Cost
FY BCost ACost
2011 100 120
2012 150 140
Total 250 260
But here when I am drilling down from Year to Quarter and Period - The values are not matching with the totals....

Fiscal Year, Fiscal Quarter Budget Cost and Actual Cost are not returning correct results – When selecting cost's by fiscal year, or filtering on a specific fiscal year, the amount returned does not equal the fiscal year total;
when I am drilling down to Quarter and Period Level the BCost & ACosts are bumping the Numbers as above and not matching with totals
Any suggestions?

Check out the query in both the times.Execute against database and try to sum the data for quarter/period and compare it with Year data.
Just try to differentiate is it a report total that is getting wrong or the data in the database table itself is getting wrong stored.

Separating obiee server and presentation services via Web Logic Server

I'm attempting to Install OBIEE Server 11.1.1.3.0 on Linux (box A). I also am installing Web Logic Server 10.3.3 on Linux (box B) with the plan of deploying presentation services on WLS.
I originally did the following:
1. setup Repositoyr using RCU
2. Installed OBIEE 11.1.1.3.0 using Enterprise Option.
3. Installed WLS 10.3.3
4. Began following this doc: http://www.obieetalk.com/deploying-obi-presentation-services-weblogic
---and the following questions arose as I was going through those steps:
a. when I start up the Weblogic configuration wizard. I get to step 8 and it asks me to configure the Administration Server.
--is that the Weblogic Server(box B)?
b. It then asks me to configure Managed Servers.
--That is the Weblogic Server, correct(box B)?
I skipped Configuring Clusters.
c. It then asks to Configure Machines.
--I'm not sure what to put here.
**I then proceeded to open up an SR and was given a "Here's the install guide" as a 'Solution Offered'.
Oracle then came back with you need to do a "Software Only" install of OBIEE
--On Box A or B? Because when I do that it asking where the WebLogic Server / Middleware Home is located.
So, I'm asking
1. do I do Enterprise, Simple or Software Only on Box A?
2. Install WLS first, and then follow the document( http://www.obieetalk.com/deploying-obi-presentation-services-weblogic ) on how to deploy the Presentation Services?
3. Which will lead me back to these questions:

Hi,
Is this the only error that you got in log files. Can you change the presentation catalog name and give it a try. Kill all the services. Start OC4J and then start the services.

OBIEE 10g Linux Presentation Services not starting

I'm having some problems starting up the Presentation Services. The oc4j service and the Server (run-sa.sh) service started with no problems but when i try to start the Presentation Services i get the following error on the sawserver.out.log:

Error While Extract results from OBIEE 11g Prest. Service to External apps.

Need a urgent help
I am using java to connect to OBIEE's 11g SOAP-API and trying to pull Graph’s in External Application.
I have successfully been able to connect to the API, create an HtmlViewServiceSoap object, and use a combination of the following methods to pull HTML & Javascript Content and write to a file through this all methods: addReportToPage, getHeadersHTML, and getHTMLForReport.
But while executing the respective URL got from getHeadersHTML ,getHTMLForReport function it gives ‘EmptyResponse’ alert message. Actually, The URL got from getHTMLForReport i.e. reportObject.setAjaxGoUrl does not Hit to Bridge Servlet, So in the application only the Searching image appears with ‘EmptyResponse’ alert message .
We are Successfully able to render graphs using OBIEE's 10g SOAP-API HtmlViewServiceSoap service and getHeadersHTML ,getHTMLForReport function in External Application.
Please let me Know the solution ASAP for extracting Graph from OBIEE's 11g SOAP-API

João, could you please explain how did you solved that network problem? I'm having a similar error establishing a Site Studio connection: 'Design time connection error: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out'
If I create this connection from a JDeveloper installed in the machine where UCM, WebCenter and SSXA are installed there's no connection problem. The problem only occurs in others pcs in the same network.

OBIEE 11g: Build a drill down detail on the count of records

Hello:
I have a summary report based on certain criteria shows the count of certain number of records for example, count(sales_id).
Region (North), Product Category(ABC) -> 15 (Sales record count using count(sales_id))
I want the ability to provide another detail report which will be the drill down of 15 that shows 15 sales records in detail.
The detail report will be invoked using the Action Link which has the BI navigation from the Measure Column (that has 15) to pass the list of sales_id's as the prompted filter based on the analysis results from the summary report.
Any idea on what I need to do in the summary report to pass the list of sales id's instead of the count 15? I do not want to display the sales_id's in the summary report.

SankarIn your example, each of the 15 sales IDs are in the same Product Category (ABC), yes? So put the action link on this column instead of the measure (so ABC in this example would be the link). In the detail report, you will need to include the Sales ID column in order to produce the 15 rows, but you can hide it so it doesn't show up on the report. (The reason you want to include the sales ID in the destination report is because the measure column would break out the rows only assuming there are no measures that are the same. If they are the same, they might roll up so having the sales ID in the report ensures that the rows remain distinct.)

OBIEE 11g: Use presentation variable in Column Heading

Hi everyone,
I was playing around with sample app dashboards and I saw a dashboard prompt that they converted into a column selector. I liked it and reproduced it in my own sandbox.
I like the results, however, I would also like to change the column heading to clearly reflect which measure was selected. It's pretty clear when you are looking in the dashboard, but once you export the data, it can be confusing which measure was selected.
That is why I would like to use a presentation variable in the column heading section. I tried to do this but it interpreted it as a literal instead of evaluating the statement.
Is there anyway to get a variable in the column heading?

OBIEE 11G Start BI Services

Hi ,
When I press Start BI Services , it prompts for a username and password.
I had created boot.properties file and put them into bi_server1 and AdminServer directories.When I started the services I can see that the username and password informations are encrypted.
But when I press Start BI Services , it also prompts for username and password.
When I was reading to forums or blogs I guess that I saw something to by pass this prompt screen.
Can somebody show me how to do this without creating new cmd's.

At last I found the solution.
First of all I had configured StartStopServices.xml.
From the <target name="start_all" tag I had removed get.credentials
my line is like that : <target name="start_all" depends = "wls.admin.start,wls.wait.alive....
and then from the  and  sections
I changed the env key values like that.
<env key ="WLS_USER" value="<my weblogic user name>">
<env key="WLS_PW" value="<my weblogic user password>">
After that when I click on StartBIServices icon everything works fine.

How to Perform Group By operation in OBIEE 11g

But in OBIEE 11g on presentation service how i need to give "Group BY" operation....for viewing correct count in nationality wise......

U mentioned, but i couldn't clearly able to understand that.......Since to perform Group By i need to make some setting changes in content in Advanced Tab setting like that it is mentioned, but i need to perform in the following manner
select count(nationality), nationality
from per_all_people_f, per_all_assignment_f, hr_all_organization_units
group by department
Note: per_all_people_f-----------> dimension table, per_all_assignment_f--------------> fact table
nationality from per_all_people_f and count(nationality) from per_all_assignment_f
But department is from hr_all_organization_units--------->dim table
I dont want to see the departments but i need to group the result in department manner that i was taking from the table hr_all_organization_units.....
How to perform Group BY in OBIEE 11g.......

Presentation Variable issue in OBIEE 11g

Hi,
I have 2 reports, report 1 and report 2
When i drill down on report 1 column 'Number of id's' will open the details report of Id's report 2
I am using a Presentation variable in report 2 filters (detail report) which is generated in Main report dasnbord prompt.
They have separate star schema.
Main report(reprot1) using Aggregated table.
Sub report(report2) using detail table.
Problem:
After upgradation from OBIEE 10.1.3.4 to OBIEE 11.1.1.5,(Unix server) The presentation variable value is not getting passed to the detail report. This is working completely fine in OBIEE 10g.
Is there any BUG in OBIEE 11g wrt presentation variable or do we want to change the configuration?

Hi,
Not sure about the behaviour in 11g, but we faced a similar issue in 10g while passing the presentation varaibles to detail report where main/detail report where coming from different subject areas. The behavior was a little unpredictable. To overcome this, we tried using request variable instead of presentation variable and it worked for us.
You can give it a try by doing the same and see if it works for you.

OBIEE 11g environment going down.

Hi Experts,
Our OBIEE 11g Production environment goes down every now and then.
I want to enable some scripts wherein i can get a notification on the pager or email that my obiee environment is down.
So far we have no mechanism to know when is our environment down...
Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
Our servers are setup in Linux environment.

Ashish,
you have different 3rd party applications like sitescope, HP Open View etc. You might need to check with your company/alerts team who will setup these alerts for you.

we use HP Openview and sitescope for these down alerts

OBIEE 11g - How to configure Virtual IP for servers hosting OBIEE 11g

I have 2 Linux servers.
I have installed OBIEE 11.1.1.6 on first server and did a scale out on second server.
I don't have a Load Balancer.
I want to configure Virtual IP for these hosts.
Please advise how to do it.
