OBIEE 11g: Blocking Analysis

I was working on setting up Blocking Analysis, I read up on this in the Oracle documentation at...

I originally setup a javascript file and a CustomMessages folder for the XML, restarted the OBIEE components. And it did NOT work.
So I decided to just do the simplest piece. I went into the answerstemplates.xml (Made a backup of Original File) file at Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\msgdb\messages and changed the Query Blocking call from True to show a Message. Below is what I updated it too (I replaced the HTML tags with the [] characters):

return "Pick Another Subject Area!"; // by default, no checking is done

So the original text was set to return True.
This is all I did, in my mind any query that a user attempts to run should get the message.
I restarted all of the OBIEE components. Ran a query and data was returned. No message.
Has anyone implemented this successfullly? I feel I am doing the easiest change to validate the expected behaviour and it still does not behave as expected.

Thanks HM, then I am lost. As I am doing the same exact thing in the answerstemplates for the WebMessage "kuiCriteriaBlockingScript"
Changing the following line from
return true;
to
return "Pick a Subject Area";
I am on IE 8 and have tried this in 11.1.1.6.0 and in 11.1.1.6.8 (We are in the process of moving to this version). I updated the answerstemplates file in the messages folder, restarted Presentation Services. Cleared browser cache.
I am able to run ad-hoc queries and get results with no custom message.

    This script is used to restrict obiee users to add a filter (for example Provision”,”Provision Claim Relationship) every time they execute their answer.
    If a user doesn't add a filter,  a message should populate  "please filter on the column..." , so that the user filters on the column.

    With the Ipad app , it is possible to view dashbords and analysis ...
    But is it possible to create a new analysis and use metadata ( Drag dimensions and mesures to create new analysis just like the normal web app ) ??

    I found the issue, that is I have installed once and uninstalled it. but some of the components still not released. This is the route cause for this issue,
    Solution:
    Go to Run-> Services.msc -> search for the Weblogic related services.
    If we found any such services running/disabled or in any state. we need to remove them.
    To remove them go to run--> regedit --> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SYSTEM--> CurrentControlSet-->Services
    and then remove/delete the service..
    Restart the system and try for fresh install....
    Its resolved my issue.

  • OBIEE 11g Unable to browse multiple value hierarchy for analysis.

    Hi All,
    We are using OBIEE 11g Value Hierarchy feature to display GL Segment Hierarchies.
    -     We have set the hierarchies to be Ragged and Skipped Levels in the RPD Business Model.
    -     We have dragged the hierarchies from Business Model to Presentation Layer.
    -     When selecting the hierarchies during Analysis, the first hierarchy that is browsed appears correctly. The next hierarchy when browsed just hangs.
    For example:
    Step 1: Browse Hierarchy1 (Block). The values show correctly.
    Step 2: Browse Hierarchy2 (Account). The hierarchy does not open with a blinking circle remaining forever.
    Alternatively;
    If we selected, Hierarchy 2(Account) first, the hierarchy shows correctly, but when selecting Hierarchy1 (Block) a blinking circle appears and remains for ever without opening the hierarchy.
    The nqquery.log shows correct result. My suspicion is that the issue is on the front end presentation services/javascript side.
    Is there any additional setup/configuration required to open multiple value hierarchies during analysis.

    I have a pretty good guess at the hanging problem, unforntunitly i have no solutions yet.
    I having same type of issue, hangs when building filters on for 2nd or 3rd dim table.. I can see obiee fireing off the query to populate the dropdown by running
    select distinct on and joining to the fact table and dimensions that the users usually have selecte prior to start creatinng the filters.
    It is sort of like doing a intra dimension filter.. Sounds good but if user does not cut way down on number of fact rows by the time 2nd filtered column is selected the generated query to populate the drop down can run and run.
    OBI SE Once and discoverer dd not do this, at least not out of the box.

    Hi Gurus,
    i try to create a new Analysis in OBIEE 11g in (brower: ie,Google chrome, Mozila), i got the error "*unterminated string literal*" and "*Exception at function updateSelectionsPanel: unterminated string literal*".
    and i try to create a new Dashboard Prompt using column prompt when i select the column i don't get the filter form and not to be add the column prompt in the Dashboard Prompt.

  • OBIEE 11g Analysis : Change Report edit link to go Criteria tab instead

    How to change the setting to have the "Edit" to go to criteria tab instead of Results (Compond view)?
    Many time we may need to change the filter from default setting and then run the report or if the filter is setup to be used from a dashboard (using "Prompted") option...then the report attmpts to run the report without values...
    And I have not checked to see if the server cancels the query to the database when the user navigates to the Critetia Page as there is no cancel link...(as it displayed in 10g...)
    FYI, We have just started using OBIEE 11g in a dev environment, we are in the process of configuring the new env to get ready for prod...

    Hi,
    By default, the Action request is sent to results tab. You can modify it by editing the dashboardeditor.js file found in /app/res/b_mozilla/dashboards folder.
    Steps:
    1) Open dashboardeditor.js file.
    2) Search for the function "DUIModifyReport".
    3) Inside the function you will find that ***"&Action=results&Path="****
    4) Change results to criteria. In other words, the changed code will look like
    ****"&Action=criteria&Path="*****
    5) Re-deploy the code and bounce the services.
    -- Remember, this will affect for entire dashboard, and for all users. ---
    If you want to avoid step (5), then manually copy the changed dashboardeditor.js to /user_projects/domains/BIfoundation/servers/bi_server1/tmp/_WL_user/analytics_11.1.1/$RANDOMFOLDERNAME$/war/res/b_mozilla/dashboards and bounce the services.
    Voila - now when you edit the analysis through dashboard, it will take you to the criteria tab, instead of results tab.

  • How to build a Analysis report in OBIEE 11g

    Hi All,
    I have a query regarding 'How to' to build an analysis report in OBIEE 11g.
    The data model is a financial data model, where information such as Actual, Plan, Forecast, What - if etc for current AND prior year need to be displayed in a dashboard.
    I created two analysis reports one for current year Rep1 and second for prior year Rep2 each with filter criteria as current year and prior year respectively based on years column. and then in the dashboard I created prompt based on scenario column (radio button) for Actual, plan, Forecast, and wht if.
    I am able to show the current vs prior year data in the same dashboard for Actual or Plan or forecast or what if (depending on data availability in the database).
    I want to achieve the same information in a single analysis report instead of two separate analysis reports. I do not want to create separate physical report for current and prior year data.
    I need one analysis report which I can use in dashboard and depending on selection for scenario (actual , plan, forecast or wht if) I want to show the current AND prior year data the way I achieved in with two seperate reports embedded in their respective sections as explained above.
    Does any one have idea how to achive this by building single analysis report?

    As per I understand your requirement,
    In your Dashboard create a Presentation variable which receives the value of year you select.
    Now in your analysis, select the year column along with all the measures you want (Actual, plan, Forecast, and what-if, etc).
    Create a filter on Year column and convert it into SQL. Put the condition as:
    "Year" BETWEEN @{Presentaion_Variable} - 1 AND @{Presentation_Variable}
    You will get the result for selected year and the previous year.

  • OBIEE 11g - Analysis & Administration Tool questions

    Dear Experts,
    I have two question in OBIEE 11g version 11.1.1.5.0:
    1. How can we display timezone in the analysis result, we have formatted the mask "MM_DD_YYYY hh:mm:ss tt z" but the "z" does not apply, it display character "z" in our result.
    2. Can we create Hierarchy Dimension from one more tables ? Example that we have TimeDimension and LocationDimension, we want to create only on Hierarchy Dimension included two both Time and Location dimension.

    I have one question . I create dashboard in OBIEE 11g .In my dashboard have one analyse and one bip report .I create one prompt filter , that changes the both .But I wanted when i click in analysis and change it, this change is reflected in the Report . Is this possible?

    I am talking about object permissions in the catalog (eg. Folder permissions..). This is in addition to the permissions for the data source.
    You need to be able to view the folders from where you can select the analysis as a data source in the BI publisher report.
    Here is an excerpt from the Guide:
    For a role to access an object in the catalog, the role must be granted Read permissions on both the object and the folder in which the object resides. Permissions can be granted at the folder level and applied to all the objects and subfolders it contains, or applied to individual objects.
    To grant catalog permissions to a role:
    Navigate to the Catalog.
    Locate the folder or object on which you wish to grant permissions and click More. From the menu, select Permissions. Alternatively, you can select the folder and click Permissions in the Tasks region.

  • OBIEE 11g: How to send email from Analysis (via Action Framework)

    Hi,
    I have installed OBIEE 11g SampleAppLite in my POC box.
    One of the features I want to have is to allow users to send their feedback (email) about a report to the report owner. Can this be done without launching Outlook? I tried to Invoke a Browser Script and found that I can display a form showing Recipient, Subject and Message text fields, but I do not know how to send the email.

  • Data level Security issue in obiee 11g

    We are trying to implement data level security, let me explain the issue
    The requirement is, we have 7 schools and each school has one principle , there will be a Superdintent who has 3 schools under him. so now when each principle logs in to dashboard we have a prompt for school i.e Name of school in that prompt he should see only his school and even the data of that school only which are assigned to him, now when Superdintent logs in he should see all 3 schools in the prompt and data. I have gone through this link (http://www.rittmanmead.com/2012/03/obiee-11g-security-week-row-level-security/) but could not achieve.
    We are able to achieve by writing SQL in BMM layer ( LTS Table) so where ever the table is used in dashboards the security is being applied and we are able to see what we want. We want to achieve this by application role, But when we are creating session variables and applying on Application Role its not working. We want to achieve this by using Application role because suppose in other dashboards when the table is not used or pulled in, it will not work.But if we do it using application role its applies to all dashboards and data is resticted. so that when principle or Superdintent logs in automatically its restricts the data.
    Below is the SQL which we used in BMM LTS, its working fine. But when the same SQL is applied in Application Role it's not working.

    For Creating New Reports,
    1.Got to -> New ->Analysis you will have your Presentation Tables under Select Subject Area
    Click on your Subject Area -> you'll get list of tables under the Subject Area
    2. Expand the Folders and click the required column.
    3. Click on Result tab - > you'll get Title and Table View
    4. Format your Table view and Title View
    5. Save your New Report in Shared Folders (You may create your own folder under Shared folder)
    View the Reports on Dashboard.
    1.Got to -> New ->Dashboard -> you will have New Dashboard Window
    Name - Give the name of your Dashboard
    Select Location - /Shared Folders/Standard Dashboard/
    Click Ok -> you'll get Empty Dashboard window.
    2. Edit the Dashboard -> Drag and Drop your Saved reports from Shard Folder under Catalog
    3. Click on Save button (Top Right) and save your dashboard -> click run [Green right Arrow(Top Right)].
    4. Now you'll have your report in your dashboard page.
    Rename Dashboard Page
    Edit the Dashboard - > Click Properties Nedt to X Symbol -> Dashboard Properties
    -> You'll have the Dashboard Properties window -> Select the Dashboard Page -> Rename
    Prompts:
    1.Got to -> New ->Dashboard Prompt-> you will have your Presentation Tables under Select Subject Area
    Click on your Subject Area -> you'll get the Untitle Prompt Window
    -> Click + symbol -> Column Prompts ->you'll get list of tables
    2. Expand the Folders and click the required columns from the list (the Columns should be your Report's table).
    3. Save your New Prompts in Shared Folders.
    Note: The Prompt columns should be Is Promptd in your Reports Filters.

  • OBIEE 11g - Integrating via external corporate website to OBIEE

    Unusual challenge, our we offer a hosted application (SaaS) where our users are authenticated on our application. Recently, we've invested in OBIEE 11g and have successfully deployed recommended Oracle Enterprise Deployment. We have a custom security solution (user permissions in Oracle tables, not LDAP), and have not implemented Oracle Identity Mgmt and don't plan to.
    We would like to use GoURL / Action Framework to access Report content, dashboard content, content as port lets embedded in an app dashboard to an iFrame.
    My Question: can we configure OBIEE to accept just "username" without password in a trusted login scenario? we are trying not to expose password in URL (encrypted or clear text).
    We done an exhaustive search to review GoUrl, web service / soap calls, reviewing impersonator passcode techniques (everyone having same pad in initialization block), etc.

  • OBIEE 11g: Searching Subject Area for measure names in Answers

    Hello,
    I have installed OBIEE 11g SampleApp 825 and just exploring the provided set of dashboards.
    From the samples, I am performing following steps:
    - I selected Edit Dashboard (for 2.1 Simple Demo Dashboard)
    - For Column 2, in the Master Detail 1 Compound View, I did Edit Analysis
    - which took me into the Answers design interface with 4 tabs (Criteria, Results, Prompts, Adv).
    In the Criteria tab, there is the Subject Area pane on the left where it shows the Subject Area this Answers report is built on and a bunch of Folders like Time, Products, Base Facts etc.
    Beside the Subject Area pane, is the Selected Columns pane where you drop fields from the folders.
    This particular analysis (Product Line Analysis) has three columns: Revenue Analysis, Products Hierarchy and T05 Per Name Year.
    Now, I want to find the folder to which the Revenue Analysis measure belongs. So, I started expanding each node/folder in the Subject Area pane and visually searching for "Revenue Analysis"....cannot find it!
    How to determine which Subject Area folder a field on the Analysis belongs to? In Oracle Discoverer, only the Folders from which fields are selected are "enabled" so it's easy to navigate straight to that folder. Or again, in Discoverer, you can actually search for a particular field name and it will return all folders that have that field name pattern. While the Search feature on the top row is useful in finding which Analysis/Report match a string, it does not help in identifying relevant Subject Area Folder fields that match a pattern.
    Is something similar available in Answers/OBIEE 11g?

    Again answering part of my own question...It was staring me right in the eye and I couldn't see it:-)...When you have a column in the Selected Columns pane, it's source is right there above the field name. If there is no source folder listed, then it might mean it's a formula. For example in my case, the Products Hierarchy column has the word Product above it...that's the folder it belongs to.
    Good. But, the follow-on question still remains, how to search for folders containing a particular string, to find say all folders that have columns like %Margin%?

  • Sectioned graphs output to PDF/print issue OBIEE 11G

    I've created a series of graphs by placing the field that varies in the "Sections" area, so that each graph displays data for each unique item (in this case). When viewing in IE or Firefox, the graphs look perfect, each one accurately displaying the related data as they should. However, when I go to export or print the graphs to PDF or just print them, the sectioned identifiers change accordingly, but the graphs themselves are all the same.
    For example, if I create a simple analysis for items 12345, 12346, and 12347 and their annual sales, create the resulting graph, then drop the item# into the Sections, I properly get three graphs, with each identified accurately with each different item number, but each of the graphs themselves are exactly the same, always with the data from the first item of the group.
    Incidentally, the table/pivot tables (if using sections) do NOT reflect this behavior when exporting/printing. They display properly. It's only the graphs.
    Has anyone experienced this before? Is it a bug? We are on OBIEE 11g 11.1.3.0/ IE 8 / Firefox 13.0.1/ Adobe Reader X 10.1.3.

    Hi, and thank you for your response. Yes, I've tried approaching it from many different directions, including what you're suggesting. It makes no difference how simple the analyses/graphs are, it results with duplicated graphs.
    Could this be caused by something we may have wrong in the instanceconfig.xml or NQSConfig.INI?
