OBIEE 11G - Creation of Parent child hirarchy

We need to create a parent child hierarchy for city wise branches
In our DB we have only one table - the same we need to consider as Dimension & Fact.
Attributes as follows:
customername, customernumber, accountnumber,city, branch, financialyear,financialquarter
We do not have primary key on above structure.
But we can get unique composite key by combining: Account Number, city  & branch attributes.

Ok, so let me explain this in detail and give the structure of my tables and the data,
There are three tables.
1.Parent Child relationship table - pctable
2.Closure table which OBIEE creates through a script - reltable
3.Fact table which contains the revenue - facttable
This is the data
pctable
personid | managerid
David | NULL
Sandra| David
Joe|Sandra
reltable
memberkey | ancestorkey |distance |is_leaf
David|NULL|NULL|0
David|David|0|0
Sandra|Sandra|0|0
Joe|Joe|0|0
Sandra|David|1|0
Joe|Sandra|1|1
Joe|David|2|1
facttable
personid|revenue
David|5
Sandra|5
Joe|10
and my joins conditions are, I join pctable to reltable and then reltable is joined to facttable like this.
pctable.personid = reltable.ancestorkey
reltable.memberkey = facttable.personid
and then in the report, when I pull up the pchierarchy build from pctable and revenue , I get as below and like I said, when I click on Sandra to see the revenue she contributes, I am not able to navigate. Can you let me know what modifications needs to be done?

  • OBIEE 11g - Navigation in Parent Child Hiearchy not working

    Hi All,
    I have a employee parent child hierarchy and I want to show revenue for each employee in the report. I have modeled my revenue as a measure like case 4 shown in the following link
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/11/oracle-bi-ee-11g-parent-child-hierarchies-multiple-modeling-methods/
    So for example this is my report ,
    --David (30)
    ---Sandra (15)
    -----Joe (10)
    Joe'e revenue is 10, Sandra's is 5 (showing her 5 Joe's revenue) and David's is 5 (showing his 5 Sandra's revenue)
    Issue :
    Now what I want is to provide action link on the revenue column so that when user would click on revenue for any employee it would direct them to a detail report showing the bifurcation.
    For ex, I want that when user click on 15 which is Sandra's revenue, he would be redirected to a detailed report for Sandra and similary for Joe and David
    MY ISSUE IS that the navigation is NOT working for sandra and Joe. It is only working for David (who is the ancestor of sandra and Joe). When I click on 15 to see sandra's detail report, it doesn't do anything and in the bottom left corner of the browser status bar below I see an ERROR saying
    (same for Joe but David work's fine)
    Message: 'getLevelInfo(...)' is null or not an object
    Line: 1
    Char: 11142
    Code: 0
    URI: http://localhost:7001/analytics/res/b_mozilla/answers/selectionsmodel.js
    Why is that happening? Is that because I have modeled the revenue as an measure and not attribute. Is navigation not possible in this case?
    Anybody has any solution or workaround for this, it will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ronny

  • Programmatic creation of parent child GroupCollection

    Hey peeps!
    I am creating an ADG with data bound to an object who's source is from a MySQL table. In one instance the grid will display categories in a tree style expandable to show sub categories.
    I have been trying to get the content to display but have been having problems. Prior to adding grouping I have confirmed that the data is there, however I think the problem may ( or may not ) stem from the parnet > child linking. Each category with a "parent_id" of 0 is a category, with each sub category having a parent_id of, obviously, it's parents id value.
    What I was doing was creating a GroupCollection2 instance, a Grouping instance and a couple of GroupField instances, similar to this:
    The obj.Result variable is the data returned from the server in JSON format which when decoded looks like this:
    So you can see here the relationship between the id fields.
    Now obviously this doesn't work or I wouldn't be here, but I cannot pinpoint whether I am assuming too much and need to better sort my data, or whether there is a flaw in my creation of the group fields/coll etc.
    N.B.: I know the first image uses parent_id but the second uses cat_parent_id...not how it appears in the real code
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Ok, I solved this issue by resorting my existing data into a proper hierachy in an array collection. I then cast that array collection as a HierachicalData and set its childrenField to the property name of the sub categories as defined in the array collection. After that, setting the dataProvider property of the ADG and validating it with ADG.validateNow(), everything worked.
    So the problem on my part was not having my data in a hierachical form in the first place. Conceptually it was, but contextically it wasn't.
    Anyone who wants to see the actual solution from getting the data from MySQL to getting it into an ADG can email me at paul at webtop-designs.com and I will put up an article describing how I did it in detail.
    This was fun

  • Navigation in Parent Child Hiearachy is a bug in OBIEE 11.1.1.6 ?

    Hi All,
    Please look into one of my earlier posts
    OBIEE 11g - Navigation in Parent Child Hiearchy not working
    One of my friends Ram told me that this is an Oracle Bug in 11.1.1.6. It's I just wanted to know if anybody has faced the same issue and reported this as a bug in Oracle. Unfortunately, i don't have the privileges to log a bug or see the bug information, can anybody please provide any information on this ?
    Thanks,
    Ronny

    Hi,
    Bug 14406555 : 11.1.1.6.2BP1 UPGRADE : ACTION LINK INTERACTION FAILS WITH GETLEVELINFO ERROR
    FYI: MOS
    What actually did happen?
    After the upgrade, when they expand the parent-child hierarchy and click on the measure column to navigate through the Action Link, nothing happens and they see error in the IE browser at the bottom - Message: 'getLevelInfo(...)' is null or not an objectLine: 1Char: 11175Code: 0URI: http://nyfsqla105.ny.fw.gs.com:9704/analytics/res/b_mozilla/answers/selectionsmodel.js It does not show any error in FF but it does not do anything. Inspite of checking "Do not display in a popup if only one action link is available at runtime" for Action links, it does show pop up after the upgrade.

  • Is Parent-Child mandatory?

    Hi everyone,
    In my model i have this dimension which it's hirarchy is an unbalanced hirarchy
    In my fact table the reference key to this dimension can be in different levels: leaf level and non-leaf levels
    Now, one solution is a parent-child hirarchy
    the triuble with this solution is that i can have only one parent-child hirarchy per dimension and i do need two hirarchies
    - the customer wants one tree of the decriptions and one of the codes - he acttually wants to show data sliced by a tree of codes. that way i have to create two dimension one for codes and one for descriptions
    in addition, i understand there are some performance issues within large cubes
    another solution is to flatten the dimension
    Level_1_Code, Level_1_Desc,Level_2_Code, Level_2_Desc,Level_3_Code, Level_4_Desc till 5 levels (maximum level of unbalanced the tree)
    is it possible to flatten the dimension or parent-child is neccacery? I remind you In fact table the reference key can be in different levels: leaf level and non-leaf levels
    TIA

    RE: The parent object is the Source. Source is mandatory. Source to child (target) cardinality is "*" - i.e. the parent may have zero to many children.
    I think by setting the Source to mandatory you are saying "The parent must have 1 to many children."
    I think the problem you are having is the limited detail and sometime confusing User's Manual.
    Here's what it says about the first checkbox:
    Relation Cardinality: Source Optional: Controls whether the source entity in a relationship must, by default, contain one or more instances. If this option is enabled, source instances are not required for all relationship types; if this option is disabled, one or more source instances are required for all relationship types.
    My interpretation of this is that the Source Optional checkbox determines whether or not the target entity is optional for the relationship when viewed from the source. If I'm correct then you are using the checkboxes backwards. (I'm new at this tool, but I've been doing data modeling for 30 years.)

  • Parent-child hierarchy and fragmentation content

    Hello,
    I've tried to build simple model with OBIEE 11 using Oracle 11r2 as a data source. BMM has fragmentation content for fact table and few dimensions with different hierarchy types. It works fine with all hierarchy types except for parent child.
    When I build an answer with parent child hierarchy it terminates with error "Target data source does not support the operation".
    Does OBIEE 11 not support parent child with fragmentation content? Or am I missing something?
    Greetings
    Marcin

    I'm seeing the same issue. I've created a parent-child hierarchy along with two normal level-based hierarchies (one "normal", one skipped-level). The two level-based hierarchies work just fine in Answers. I can include them in the criteria, and data is displayed with the correct drilldowns.
    If I include the parent-child hierarchy, I get the same results as noted in the original post: "The layout of this view combined with the data, selections, or drills, or prompt values chosen, resulted in no data." I'm trying to look at the table view, with no filters.
    Interestingly, I can explicitly include that dimension's Parent column and Member column in the criteria, and data is displayed just fine.
    Here is the XML for the set of criteria that includes the separate Parent and Member columns (the one that works):
    SELECT s_0, s_1, s_2, s_3, s_4, s_5, s_6, s_7, s_8, s_9, s_10, s_11 FROM (

  • Parent Child Hierarchy Issue in OBIEE 11g

    Hi All,
    I am in OBIEE 11G v6. I have a sales fact table where the grain is one sale. So I have one row for every sale done.
    Now I have a ragged employee hierarchy like this with David at the root node.
    David >>Richard>>Sean
    David >>James
    Also, I have a role dimension which gives me what role each employee has performed on a sale. Only one employee can be associated with one sale. This is the way Roles have been asssigned
    David = Manager
    Richard = Off1
    Sean = Off2
    James = Off2
    Both Sean and James can have same Roles. Now I have created a parent child hierarchy for my employee dimension and the closure table. Defined the member key, ancestor key relationship in the parent child setting etc.
    Now in the report when I pull the parent child hierarchy and the sales_amount in the report, it comes out perfect with all the ragged hierarchy resolved. But the issue comes when I try to limit the report on Role = Off2. It gives me an error saying " The layout of this view combined with the data, selection , drills resulted in no data. Undo drill and view prompt values". Basically what i want is to be able to select any role type and then my hierarchy should be adjusted to show me that data. Like when I select Off2, I want to see David at the Top level and Sean and James under him because they are both Off 2 and David is their manager.
    Is that possbile? Also, am I getting this error because when I select Off2 though it gets Sean and James but since David is not Off2, I don't get the data?
    I hope I was able to explain the issue, any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ronny

    So basically this means that if I build a parent child hierarchy on table A having the stucture like
    --David (Manager)
    -----James (Off1)
    --------Bill (Off2)
    and in my sales fact table for let's say today, I have only rows for Bill (Off2) because he is the only officer who did the sales today. Now when I will join my fact table to parent child hierarchy table A I will NOT get any data ? because there is no James who is the parent of Bill. So obiee need to have parent pulled off in the data (ANCESTOR) to be able to roll up the child.(IS_LEAF = 1)
    I testes this and if my data only contains only rows for Bill (or I limit on ROLE = Off2) then it won't show the hierarchy. The query which OBIEE fires is to look for either ANCESTOR_KEY = NULL OR (DISTANCE = 1 AND ANCESTOR KEY IN (Bill). Therefore it doesn't I am wondering then what is the use of builiding the parent child hierarchy when we need to pull in all the ancestors (like in this case James for bill and David for james) because in real scenarios there can be cases wherein we would want to filter the data based on other dimensions to which the parent child hierarchy joins ?

  • Parent Child Hierarchy in OBIEE 11G

    Hi All,
    I am working on the parent child hierarchy in OBIEE 11g Source ESSBASE ..followed some of the blogs.
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/07/obiee-11gr1-enhancements-to-essbase-support/
    I followed the following steps.
    1.Imported the Cubes from ESSBASE.
    2.Selected Accounts Hirearchy and changed the Hierarchy type to Value.
    3.Dragged the subject area to BMM and to Presentation.
    4.Now when i checked the Account Hierarchy from in the dashboard its not drilling down.
    If i change the Hierarchy type to Unbalanced ...then the Account hiearchy is working fine.
    Is there is any settings or process i have to follow..inorder to implement the Value based Hierarchy in OBIEE 11G source ESSBASE.
    Thanks

  • OBIEE 11g Parent Child hierarchy

    Hi,
    I'm trying to setup a parent-child hierarchy dimension. I have setup a new hierarchy dimension using numeric keys but want to display another field in the hierarchical column on a report e.g. employee fullname & not the member_key based on a numeric value. Can this be done & how do you do it? All the examples I have seen use varchar2 type columns as the keys to do this.
    Thanks in advance, Phil
    My Setup
    =============
    Dimension - logical level
    ===============
    member key = employee_id
    parent-child table source
    ===============
    member key = employee_id
    parent key = supervisor_id
    relationship distance = levels_removed
    leaf node identifier = isleaf
    Employee logical folder
    ==============
    employee_id ( number)- primary key
    full_name (varchar2) - unique key
    supervisor_id ( number)
    Closure table
    =========
    employee_id ( number)
    supervisor_id ( number)
    level ( number)
    isleaf ( number)

    Thanks for the link Suresh but the aggregations are working correctly.
    My problem is only at the display level. I need to create a dashboard that displays the complete hierarchy.
    So for example if I have this hierarchy:
    - Steven King
    - Adam Frip
    Alexis Bull
    Anthony Cabrio
    Alberto Erraruriz
    Den Raphaely
    I want the dashboard to display immediately that complete hierarchy. If someone adds a member to the hierarchy in the database, the dashboard should display this new member without having to manually modify the dashboard.
    - Steven King
    - Adam Frip
    Alexis Bull
    Anthony Cabrio
    - Alberto Erraruriz
    Mozhe Atkinson
    Den Raphaely
    Also, if I just manually open the hierarchy and save the dashboard, if "Steven King" is replaced by "Shanta Vollman", the dashboard doesn't like it and returns a result looking like:
    - Adam Frip
    Alexis Bull
    Anthony Cabrio
    - Alberto Erraruriz
    Mozhe Atkinson
    Den Raphaely
    + Shanta Vollman
    So I'm looking for some option that will tell OBIEE to open the hierarchy without having to specify "Drill down on member "Steven King"", "Drill down on member "Adam Frip"...
    I hope I'm explaining correctly...

  • OBIEE 11g: Skip a level in a parent-child hierarchy

    Hi everyone,
    I've got a parent child hierarchy setup. It's basically Total Company -> Continent -> Country. It's working fine.
    For one particular report, the end user would like to bypass continent for just Asia. The rest of the countries should go through their continent first.
    For example,
    Total Company -> Europe -> Germany
    Total Company -> North America -> Canada
    Total Company -> Japan
    Total Company -> Korea
    We do not want to change the hierarchy as it is a corporate standard and eventually we want the grouping there. Just for a single report, we want to bypass.
    Is there anyway to do this?
    I tried to remove the "Asia" node while building the report, but it also removes the children. So then I tried adding back in the children and they weren't part of the hierarchy. They were off in their own duplicate hierarchy.
    Hopefully this is possible.

    Hi,
    you mean for example you want to create a level 3 WBS under a level 1 WBS?
    is that what you mean by skip a level?
    that is not possible, i cant even think of a scenerio why you might want to do that. (but i'm curious why you asked)
    it isnt even logically feasible. you can create WBS levels only one at a time.
    Good day.

  • How to update a parent child hierarchy in OBIEE

    Hello All
    Quick question about updating parent child hierarchy in OBIEE.
    As we know, OBIEE 11G allows us to create value based hierarchy by generating table creation script and insert script. In the typical example of employee dimension, the parent child relationship table will be created with the following 4 attributes:
    MEMBER_KEY, ANCESTOR_KEY, DISTANCE, IS_LEAF
    So, what if later in the years some of the employees got promoted, retired or transferred? The value based hierarchy is going to change because person 1 reports to manager 2 now instead of 1. Obviously, the records in employee dimension is going to be updated. When that happens, how to update the parent child relation table with the same information? Do we have to rerun the insert script? How do we keep the history of employee changes and hierarchy changes?
    Please advice
    Thank you

    I guess it will update when the structure changes,Let see the response from other gurus.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Have you try to increase MaxPermSize, it may occure memory issue.
    change the Middleware/ORACLE_BI1/oui/oraparam.ini and fine it like below
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m" then try to change it
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=2048m"
    (i.e:It will increase the numbers for allocating more memory) then save it and then try to run config.bat (software only/enterprise) method and configure it.

  • Issue to check in parent-child closure table attributes to OBIEE repository

    I use OBIEE 11.1.1.5 Administration Tool to open repository in online mode and set up parent-child hierarchy. There are no issues but after I check in changes to server, close repository and open it back from server, closure table attributes are missing.
    On the other hand when I save repository file locally, close it and then open offline, all mentioned attributes are there. Also all other modifications (except hierarchy) are properly checked in to remote repository.
    When I compare UDML from remote and local copy of repository here is part missing in remote:
    CLOSURE TABLE ATTRIBUTES( "xxx".."yy"."ORG_STRUCTURE_CLOSURE"."MEMBER_KEY",
              "xxx".."yy"."ORG_STRUCTURE_CLOSURE"."ANCESTOR_KEY",
              "xxx".."yy"."ORG_STRUCTURE_CLOSURE"."DISTANCE",
              "xxx".."yy"."ORG_STRUCTURE_CLOSURE"."IS_LEAF")
    When trying to build web report I get "[nQSError: 38107] Not all four columns are defined for closure table" (which is actually not surprising).
    Unfortunately I need to do this change in online mode without restarting obiee services.
    Any ideas how to force admin tool to check in all changes to remote repository?

    Finally I applied workaround:
    - modified hierarchy in offline mode
    - deployed repository
    Now when importing repo in online mode closure table parameters are in place.

  • Parent Child Tables in OBIEE

    Hi,
    I have three tables to be added in OBIEE Admin Tool
    1. Request Master (Req_ID is PK)
    2. Complaints (Req_ID is PK)
    3. Compliments (Req_ID is PK)
    Table 2 and 3 are linked to table 1 in a 1:1 relationship. so basicallly, all requests have a record in the master table (Request master) and depending on the type of request, there will either be a detail record in table 2 or table 3.
    Can someone guide me as to what would be the best way to configure the relationships in the admin tool on the Physical & BMM layers.
    -Osden

    I know you said you have primary key defined already but just to make sure, can you follow these steps:
    1) Double click on dimension table
