OBIEE 11g - Sorting in a Pivot Table

Hi ,
I am working in OBIEE 11.1.1.6. I am trying to sort a particular column in pivot table which is not happening . I tried by giving a rank for the same column and placing it in the first row and hiding it . But It does not work either . Pls lemme know in case of any solutions .

Do in this way
Create a measure in rpd RANK(Measure)
Now extract the measure with the dim column and then do the sort for the column in analytics then you create the Pivot Table View. It will work.

How to Sort Dimension based on the Order Value which Keeps Changing with Factual Values??
We have a data source laid out as (example)
In the above the “Order” columns are changing per
Company/(DimensionA) for DimesnsionB.
Instead what we want is: (But only if we can get the following result without putting the “Order” Column in the “Values” Section.
If there are any configurations that we can make to our power pivot model for the similar data set so that the
DimesnionB in this case can be sorted by the Order column, would be greatly helpful to us.

According to your description, you need to sort dimension members in Pivot Table via order column, and you don't want the order column show on the Pivot table, right?
Based on my research, we can sort the data on the Pivot table based on one of the columns in that table, and we cannot sort the data based on the columns that not existed on the Pivot table. So in your scenario, to achieve your requirement, you can
add the column to pivot table and hide it.

OBIEE 11.1.1.6 - Pivot table charts to display horizontally

Hello,
We have created 1 report it shows the pivot charts as sections vise in horizontal format, for this we have used javascript.
Recently upgraded to OBIEE 11.1.1.6, now the script is not working and the section vise charts are showing in vertical format.
Any one have faced the same issue? can you guide me what are the steps to done to show the charts in horizontal format.

Hi,
Drag 'Measure Labels' to the columns space. By default this 'Measure Labels' is in excluded tab of pivot table.
After dragged the label to column tab then try to move measure column to measure space. It will be moved.

Sort Order in Pivot Table

Hi,
I am unable to get sort order in desc , even if I specify the descending order for that measure column in criteria.
The view I'm using is Pivot View.

Assuming the column you want to sort on is not the first column in the rows section of your pivot table, then do this:
1) Duplicate the column that you wish to sort on.
2) Move that column all the way to the left so it is the first column.
3) Apply the sort to this column.
4) Hide the column.
This will sort the pivot table...

If you need to rename the 'GO' button, follow the below steps.
Go to {OracleBIDir}:\oraclebi\web\msgdb\l_en\messages and Open the globalfiltermessages.xml file.
Find this text

Edit the 'Go' which is there between the TEXT tags.. for e.g.., replace the Go with Confirm

OBIEE 11g - sorting graph axis based on metric

Hi, I'm trying to create a graph that show employee counts by various colleges on campus. I want the graph to look something like this (sorry for a text version, don't know how to upload a screenshot..this is supposed to represent a horizontal bar graph...):
College Employee Count
College 1 =================
College 2 ============
College 3 =======
College 4 ====
i.e. I'm trying to list the college dimension going on the vertical axis, but I need the values sorted in order of highest employee count to lowest, not alphabetically.
I haven't figured out how to do this with a normal graph, but I have been able to do this using a pivot table and then displaying the associated view. However, I'm still having a major issue with this. If there are a lot of colleges selected (we have about 40 total), then the graph doesn't show a axis label for every bar. Instead, it looks like only every 4th bar is being labeled, the rest have bars but no labels. This really isn't (at all) what I need. I need each and every bar to be labeled.
One solution I guess would be to (greatly) increase the vertical size - maybe change from Canvas Height = 330 to Canvas Height = 1024 or something. Unfortunately, that would make the graph take up the entire dashboard. And if a user had filter criteria set to only have 4 colleges selected, the graph would look horrible. What I really need is a simple scroll bar that lets the user scroll up and down in a fixed window. Is there any way to do that - or any similar functionality I could use? I see something called "Enable Zoom and Scroll" but haven't quite figured out how that works.

Actually, I've figured out that "zoom and scroll" is exactly what I want...sort of...
To make the graph show up properly, I can zoom twice on the vertical axis and everything works great. Only problem I'm having is that if I save the graph, exit and go back in, the "zoom" setting isn't saved. Anyone know a way to get the zoom setting to "stick"?
Also, is there a way to make the zoom icon (the little hourglass) always show up, instead of just when you happen to hover over it? An end user might not know it's there if it's not visible.

OBIEE 11g - issue when export hierarchy to a csv

Hello,
I have an issue when I try to export to a csv file a report containing a Logical Dimension field, when I export just the first level of hierarchy is exported and not all the records. When I export to another format (such as excel) all the records are exported correctly. Do you know what can I do in order to have all the records exported to a csv?

OBIEE 11g - issue when export to a csv file

Hello,
I have an issue when I try to export to a csv file a report having numeric feild, when I export and open the file in notepad the trailing zeros to the right of decimal points do not show up. When export to another formats (such as excel, pdf) the trailing zeros appears correctly. e..g, 100.00 appears as 100, 100.50 appears as 100.5.
Do you know what can be done in order to have trailing zeros to the right of decimal points to appear in a csv?

Data level security in OBIEE 11g

Hi all,
I am using OBIEE 11g. I have a table called "USER_ACCESS_T" which has four columns user_name,Access_level_name,Access_level_type,status_flag.
User_Name Access_Level Access_Type Status_Flag
XX Project ABC Project Group Yes
YY Project DEF Project sub Group Yes
ZZ Project GH Project Yes
My requirement is
When user XX logs in BI answers, he has to access only Project group ie.., Project ABC.
When user yy logs in BI answers, he has to access only Project sub group ie.., Project DEF.
Kindly Guide me.

Hi Haree,
Please follow the follow steps to restrict users on the project dimension.
1) Create an init block to populate the list of project a user belongs to. You have to do this row - wise initialized as a user can belong to multiple projects.
Select 'PROJECT_NUMBER', project_number from w_project_d where UPPER(user_name)=UPPER(':USER');
2) Now as you have all the project numbers for a particular user in a variable, you can use that to filter on the dimension table.
3) In the rpd, go to the group/role - Permissions - Select the dimension table project - and put the following filter.
"Core"."Dim - Project.Project Number" = VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.PROJECT_NUMBER)
That's it. Your security is now in place for projects.

The pivot table ignores the sort on the measrure in the criteria section, so how can we enable sort on the measure columns in pivot in OBIEE 11g ?

OBIEE 11g - How to create clean looking pivot tables

Hi, does anyone have a good way to clean up the appearance of pivot tables in OBIEE 11g? I'm a big fan of Stephen Few and firmly believe in the "minimize non-data ink" theory. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of stuff on OBIEE pivots that I can't easily clean up. Does anyone have ideas for:
1. How to remove the "gray" / "beige" coloring from column and row dimension? I opened a ticket with Oracle 6 months ago, and basically they've just responded that it is a "enhancement request" for a future version (aka not going to see it for a LONG time)
2. For my "across" dimension, I don't seem to have a good way to show the dimension name. There is an option under "column properties" to "display heading" - but when this is turned on it scrunches the heading up directly over the column that has the down dimension members. I really want this to go across the pivot.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Need to eliminate Space between two Pivot table view in OBIEE 11g

Hi,
I have a requirement to eliminate space between two pivot table views. In a single report I have two Pivot table with two different column, I placed both of them one after another, but I need to eliminate the space between two pivot table views as if it should show as a single pivot table in OBIEE 11g.
Could anyone please let me know how I can do this in OBIEE 11g?

If I create narrative view it will be another view. And if I put that in between that two pivot view, it will show the space. I need to remove space between two pivot table within a single report so that it can appear as a single pivot view.

Kindly do the below changes in your end..please go to your obiee11g installation folder under
BI11g\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\msgdb\messages\answerstemplates.xml find it the take back up and Edit the copy of the file and
Search with "Sortable" keyword in kuiCriteriaDefaultViewElementsMask element but I'm not sure sortable="False" then restart it
Note: it will afftect entire answres report.

Formatting pivot tables (obiee 11g)

Hi, I'm trying to find good ways to format pivot table results in 11g. Can someone help answer the following questions? Note that I'm putting the "measures" label into the row position, which allows me to format measures differently from each other.
1. I'd like to put blank rows into the output to space the report. I tried creating a dummy "spacer" measure and then setting display:none in the CSS style. However, this leaves an ugly blank spot that has a gray color in the output. Is there an easier way just to add blank spaces between rows?
2. The default grid lines on all pivot tables are really dark. If you're a Stephen Few afficianado, they really interfere with reading the numbers. Is there a simple way to default pivots to have less obvious grid lines?
3. Is there a way to turn off the "word wrap = TRUE" for everything? I've tried setting default number formats for all items to have word wrap turned off...I don't know who would EVER want minus signs wrapping around in numbers...despite this, any new metric I create ALWAYS seems to have stupid word wrapping turned on. If anything, I'd like the default to be off for all items.
