OBIEE 11g - zeros and nulls and rows, oh my!

Hi, dumb question here, but I need some help with handling zeros and nulls with OBIEE.
First off, I have a fact table that contains five "metrics" - A, B, C, D, and E. Often (but not always), only 1 of the 5 columns is populated, the others are NULL.
In the RPD, I've brought in these 5 columns and set their aggregation to SUM. In addition, I've created other calculated metrics such as F = A+B, G = A+C+E, etc. To get these calculations to work right, I seem to have to use IfNull(metric,0) often, because apparently NULL plus a number equals NULL.
From a usability standpoint, here's what I'm seeing on reports that I don't like (for instance, imagine the particular report is displaying columns A, B, and F only)
#1 - If A and B are both NULL, the F column always shows as a 0 because the formula is IfNull(A,0) + IfNull(B,0). It would be nice if I could get F to also show NULL, without making the formula complicated
#2 - Rows are showing on the report where everything on the row is either NULL or 0. I assume this is because one of the columns not being displayed has numbers in it. Is there a way to get OBIEE to not show rows that have all zeros or NULLs? Or is this due to the fact that the IfNull(A,0) + IfNull(B,0) is returning a non-NULL answer...and if I modified the formula so it did return a NULL it would magically go away?

p.s. regarding issue #2...I suppose I could put a filter on to filter out rows with all zeros or NULLs, but this filter gets uglier and uglier as the number of columns grows...and I wouldn't want developers to have to do this.

looks like there is a way to recover the lost passwords for RPD's using listcred() method of wlst

Listing the Credential in Dev Environment:
All the Credential Keys are generally stored in an encrypted format (the passwords). So, to migrate we will need to first extract these passwords and then do the migration to Production. The passwords can be extracted through the listCred() method of WLST. We need to be connected to the Admin Server for this method to work. The exact command is given below
connect(“weblogic”,”welcome1″,”localhost:7001″)
listCred(“DevMap”,”DevKey”)
This will show the encrypted password entered inside the key as shown below
And this is what we see in the enterprise manager.
As you see, with listCred we are able to extract the full credentials. Now, lets try to see what is the default password for the BISystemUser.
listCred(“oracle.bi.system”,”system.user”)
In the same way lets extract the passwords of the SampleAppLite repository.
listCred(“oracle.bi.enterprise”,”repository.SampleAppLite”)
With this we can even extract the lost Repository passwords."

my friend installed OBIEE 10g and OBIEE 11g installed in same system.now i am unable to start OBIEE 11g obi server,presentation services,java host when i see in the properties presentation services ,obi server and java host in services.msc the path here is pointing to obiee 10g sawserver,javahost and presentation services.

Obiee 11g non-conforming dimensions and nQSError 14025

Does anyone know how to configure the 11g repository for non-conforming dimensions? This worked fine in 10g. I have upgraded the repository to 11g and it doesn't work anymore. I am receiving the error [nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail. I have tried building a simple test subject area and testing different configurations, but I have not had any success.

Ah, I love answering my own questions. :/
The only way I could make this work was a follows...
1. Make sure you have a level-based dimension for each of your logical table dimensions (both conforming and non-conforming).
2. For the fact table measures, set the levels as you did in 10g with the non-conforming dimensions at the Grand Total logical level for each measure.
3. For the fact table LTSs, set the logical level in the Content tab to the dimension's lowest level for each conforming dimension (leave the non-conforming dimensions level blank).
Unfortunately, the query generated in 11g will add an additional sub-query to the mix even though it doesn't appear to have any benefit. Therefore in 10g, if you have two logical fact tables with non-conforming dimensions, three sub-queries were required to create the result set. Two queries for the facts and their related dimensions and a final full outer join to stitch the results together. In 11g, you have one query without the measures, two queries with the measures, and the final outer join.
I am talking to Oracle support about this issue, but I haven't made much progress yet. I asked development to confirm my repository design and they say it checks out. They indicated that the additional query is a design change/enhancement. I am not getting a warm and fuzzy on this one. I'll post back if I make any progress.
Oh, did I mention that this change has broken queries where I attempt to combine fields from two non-conforming dimensions?!? This worked fine in 10g.

OBIEE 11g SSO using OAM and AD (authentication provider)

I would like to set up sso, so as to achieve seamless navigation from my Peoplesoft system to OBIEE.
If anyone has done this before, then could you point me to some reference material. I am not able to find any online.

OBIEE 11g - Current year date and the same date in Previous year

Hi Experts,
I have an attribute say RECEIPT NO, i want to display the "No of Receipts" i.e(count(receipt no)) for any given date in the current year as well as for the same date in previous year.

OBIEE 11g: Report not displaying maximum rows per page

OBIEE 11g and Essbase and Dimension Filter / Selection Steps

We are doing a prototype using OBI 11g with Essbase 11.1.2 as a datasource. Our prototype consist of several reports, graphs and dashbaords. The Essbase cube is an ASO cube with 12 dimensions. Most of our dimensions are ragged/unbalanced so we have set up the dimension type to be "Value" in the RPD. There is one dimension - Product and it is a ragged dimension. We are trying to create a simple report that has level zero products as rows. This is something pretty easy to do in Essbase Financial Reporting but it does not look like there is an easy way to filter only on the Level 0 members of a particular dimension. I have tried with selection steps as well as changing the dimension back to unbalanced without much luck.
Has anyone out there done something similar before? Thx.

And 1 more thing admin tool works only for 32-bit ...but not in 64 bit.So ensure you install 32-bit for admin tool.

OBIEE 11g and Weblogic on different Servers

Can we install OBIEE 11g on one server and weblogic and another server?
How to indicate in obi configuration, that weblogic is on another server?
Is there a manual or link that prove it?

Install BIServer and BIPresentaionServer on one server and deploy BIPS plug-in on Weblogic server where it is installed,so the both will talk with the weblogic server.

Varchar2, empty strings and NULL

Hi all,
When inserting an empty string into a column of type varchar2 - is a NULL value stored in the column by the database? I've seen conflicting reports, and I know that the SQL 1992 spec specifies that empty strings not be treated as a NULL value, but that Oracle has traditionally treated zero length strings stored in a varchar2 column as NULL.
So, is there a way to store an empty string in a varchar2 column as an empty string and not a NULL value?

It can be even more complicated or annoying than NULL not equal to ASCII NULL.

Not able to import the data in OBIEE 11g

I had just build a new development instance from scratch.
Q1) I am getting database connnection error on the Dashboard and when i tried to update row count from physical layer it also throws me an error, as i test i tried to import but i also got an error " The connection has failed", i am able to connect thru SQL Developer. Where does OBIEE 11g look for the tnsnames.ora file.
Q2.) Where and what setting do i need to so that i can add the users in the application roles by searching them in the EM, means the LDAP users. I had gone thru most of the stuff in the web but could not get thru.

now i have assign some user to it.
now i want to assign permission to the trainee dashboard to the groupA.
i tried to do that but when i am doing login obieee by using any user that has assigned to group A.
but i am not able to see trainee dashboard.

Graph Data Labels in OBIEE 11g - Customizing

Hi folks!
Would somebody know how to select what is shown in graph data labels in OBIEE 11g?
For example in a scatter graph data label I'd like to show the Group only (not the combination of Series, Group, X and Y, as by default). For a pie chart one can select the data shown in data labels to some extent (name / value), however couldn't find this option for scatter graph.
After searching I could only find instructions for 10g - such as John's instructions at http://obiee101.blogspot.com.es/2008/01/obiee-xy-and-data-in-mouse-over-label.html.
However, my understanding is that the graph engine in OBIEE 11g is now different, and the 10g instructions are not valid for 11g anymore.
I was also having a look on the .cxml files in OBIEE 11g but those seem to relate to colors only?

Not able to see the charts in the default SampleAppLite webcat in OBIEE 11g

I have installed OBIEE 11g on my dekstop and it was installed successfully. Then i started the BI Services and login to the dashboard using the weblogic user and Pwd, everything is coming fine but charts are not coming. Do we have to start some Java services also. I restarted all the services also using em and it shows all services started successfully. Can you please help me regarding this.

It is historical data that i have uploaded into the infocube for Demand Planning Purpose.
I have recreated everything and uploaded the data again into the infocube, able to see the data in the infocube, created the MPOS, created the CVCs, Created the Planning Area, activated the Planning Area,assigned the infocube to the history key figure while creating the planning area, created the Periodicities, created the Planning Book. but still not able to see history in the keyfigure.
