Object initializer syntax for strongly typed objects

Hi All,
In C#, you can initialize an object like this:
StudentName student = new StudentName {FirstName = "John", LastName = "Smith"};
I know that in ActionScript, I can create an object without an explicit type declaration using a similar syntax, like this:
var student:Object = {FirstName:"John", LastName:"Smith" };
But what if I wanted to strongly type the object I'm creating, like this:
var student:Student = {FirstName:"John", LastName:"Smith" };
That will fail with a compile error because I'm trying to convert a standard Object instance to a Student object instance.
Does ActionScript have a C#-like initializer syntax?  Essentially, it gives you initialization constructors without you having to do the busy-work writing them.  And, as an added bonus, you can initialize only the properties you want to, and you don't have to explicitly pass null for the properties you don't want to initialize.
  -Josh

No such thing in AS.  You could write a factory function if you want but it
won't be as efficient as constructors.

    Last I tried this was with one of the beta of Flex2 and it

  • PB Syntax for Programmable OLE Objects (Excel)

    If I want to manipulate Excel (open Excel file, set value to cell, etc.), I need to write syntax like these (example):
      lole_excel = create oleobject
      lole_excel.ConnectToNewObject("excel.application")
      lole_excel.WorkBooks.Open("C:\some_path_to\sample.xls")
      lole_workbook = lole_excel.application.workbooks(1)
      lole_worksheet = lole_workbook.worksheets(1)
      // Set the cell value
      lole_worksheet.cells(1,11).value = "Some value" //it is cells(line, column)
      // Save
      lole_workbook.save()
      // Quit
      lole_excel.application.quit()
      lole_excel.DisconnectObject()
      destroy lole_Excel
    The question is, where should I look for complete reference of properties and function to be used?
    I mean, if I want to add/embed PDF file into Excel, what function should I use? What value to pass as parameter?
    What PB syntax should I code to accomplish this? Where can I find complete document for these functions/properties?
    Many thanks for your attention.

    How can I know that I must use worksheets property of workbooks property of application property of oleobject?
    That's dependant on understanding the object model for the application that you're trying to work with.  There's nothing PB documentation can really help with there.
    There are a couple of sections of the Application Techniques manual that cover OLE Automation in depth:
    Programmable OLE Objects
    OLE Objects in Scripts
    What you might find more useful in this regard though is an article I did for PBDJ, which was an excerpt from the PowerBuilder 9: Advanced Client/Server book.
    What I discuss in there is how to use the object browser built into Microsoft Office products to understand the object model and how to use the functions and properties of the target application.

  • CompareTo(Object) is undefined for Object

    I'm getting an error -The method compareTo(Object) is undefined for the type Object- with this code:
    public static Object getMinimum (Object[] array)

       for (int i = 1; i < array.length; i++) {

    The objects in the array will always implement the Cloneable interface, but they can't use it, as they are treated as Object instances, not as instances of their own class. How can I fix this without using a Comparator?
    Thanks in advance

    Or to be most generic

  • Approach for strong InfoObjects

    What approach is considered better? Thanks
    1) Use standard delivered strong InfoObjects i.e. 0Material, 0Customer, 0Plant and adapt them for the customers specific needs i.e. add/remove attributes
    2) Create customer defined InfoObjects (using the strong object as a template) i.e. MATERIAL, CUSTOMER, PLANT
    I am swaying for the first since there is less changes to be done when future unpacking of Business Content.  However, the argument for the second is that it prevents overwriting of Customer specific changes to the strong objects with future unpacking

    Hi Niten,
    It depends whether you are going to add any custom info-objects to your "Strong info-object". If so, then better to create Custom "Strong info-object". However if you are adding/removing only standard info-object belonging to the "Strong info-object" then better to use the standard "Strong info-object".
    You may wait for more solutions from the experts before closing this post.

    I'm getting this error message "In initializer for 'mxmlContent', type Object is not assignable to target Array element type mx.core.IVisualElement." and then the debugger highlights my code this line of my code "</s:List>" in my EmployeeDetails.mxml file. This started after I coded Part 5, Step 2 "Integrating with the Device Capabilities: Triggering the Actions".   The rest of the code debugged fine.
    I think it relates to Christophe's note "Note: Make sure you import spark.events.IndexChangeEvent (and not mx.events.IndexChangedEvent) for this code to compile.".  I don't know where to place this

  • S/A bridge problem: No object type found for the message

    Hi all,
    I've been spending days looking into the following problem. I have a RFCXIFile scenario. The R3 system sends data via an RFC to XI and XI post the data as a flat file on a certain server using FTP.
    This scenario worked just fine for 1 exception. I could only run this scenario once. The second time I got timeouts when checking the data sent to my RFC destination using SM58. When I reactivated my RFC communcation channel I could again send 1 RFC to the system. All subsequent tries would fail.
    I guess this is due to the fact that I use a synchonous call (RFC) to an asynchronous one. Thus the adapter is still waiting for the response from the XI system and will not accept any further new calls from R3.
    So I figure let's use this pattern called the S/A bridge. So I designed everything according to guides and examples and I'm quite certain everything is configured right but when I run the scenario I get the following message:

    It seems that the adapter cannot find any integration process to send the message into!?
    I've looked at numerous threads on sdn and tried all kinds of stuff (looked at the cache==> code 0 = OK , tried to reactivate my integration process, checked the interface determination,...), but to no avail. Does anybody has an idea what could be wrong ?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated for I'm all out of clues....
    Bob

    First of all, Thank you for trying to help me out here.
    Some answer to your suggestions/questions:
    The IP has return code 0 in SXI_CACHE. so that doesn't seem to be the problem.
    I've checked the BPM for syntax errors. I doesn't have any.
    I've reimported the BPM into the integration directory.
    And did a full cache refresh in SXI_CACHE. Return code is (stays) zero, so that's OK.
    I've already included the error message from SXI_MONI. It is in the last step ("Call Adater") that the error occurs.
    The other steps execute just fine...
    The RFC communcation channel accepts the incoming RFC call and puts into the pipeline, so no problems with the communication channel either. the problem is actually when the pipeline is trying to forward the message into an IP trhough the BPE_ADAPTER (according to SXMB_MONI).
    Therefore I'm not able to go to into PE, because the workflow is never started. the BPE_ADAPTER does not find any active process for the interface determination i've entered.
    So i can not debug the IP in the PE and check container variables, like some of you mentioned.
    Maybe some more information about the scenario:
    The RFC is called from an R3 system to XI over the interface "CONTROL_RECIPE_DOWNLOAD", which is an imported RFC, with a request and response message type.
    Then I got a receiver and interface determination with lead the incoming RFC message to the IP, into interface "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_REQ_AI_MI".
    This is an abstract synchronous interface based on the request and response types of the "CONTROL_RECIPE_DOWNLOAD" imported RFC.
    This interface is used the first step (receive) of my BPM as the synchronous interface to open the S/A bridge.
    The message (container var)  used in this step is
    name: CORREQ
    Category: Abstract interface
    type: "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_REQ_AI_MI"
    The interface "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_REQ_AI_MI" is an abstract, asynchronous interface based on the request type of the "CONTROL_RECIPE_DOWNLOAD".
    Then there are 2 send steps for putting the flat files into place and finally i close the the S/A bridge using message:
    name: CORRES
    Category: Abstract interface
    type: "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_RES_AI_MI"
    The interface "XI_ERP_MF_MD_CONTROL_RECIPE_RES_AI_MI" is an abstract, asynchronous interface based on the response type of the "CONTROL_RECIPE_DOWNLOAD".
    I hope this information gives you guys a better understanding of hte problem.
    Really looking forward to see more suggestions and to solve this nasty problem ...
    Regards,
    Bob

  • Set Default Value based on Field from another table for a custom object

    I'm trying to set the default value on a custom object field to the value of an account field. I have tried the syntax 50 different ways, and just am getting no where. The account field label displays as DBA, the integration tag is ltDBA_ACCT, and it shows up in reporting fx area as Account.Text_22.
    The custom object field I'm triying to update is also called DBA, which was originally the "NAME" required field. Does the table name, Account, have to be included? Do I need a function in front of the field?
    I have been updating the external ID using the row ID with syntex <ID> (Less than ID greater than) so I know it is possible to set the Default Value, but <DBA>, <ltDBA_ACCT>, "Account"."DBA", and so on just don't not work.
    If anyone knows how to enter this I'd really appreciate the help.

    Ok, so if you want to default a field to the value from another object, you have to use the JoinFieldValue function. I think you understand that, based on your original post, but I want to be sure that you do.
    Next, this will only work as a default if the record is created from the object that you wish to join on because a default works at record creation and the ID needs to be available for it to work properly. It will not work if you choose the related object record after the custom object record is created. You could set the value as a post-default, but that does not seem to meet your requirements.
    The syntax for the Default Value would be as follows: JoinFieldValue(ref_record_type, foreign_key, field_name).
    In your case, ref_record_type is '<Account>', foreign_key is &#91;<AccountId>&#93;, and field_name is '<YourFieldName>'. The best way to determine what the field name is would be to create a new workflow for Account and use the Workflow Rule Condition expression builder to pick your field ("DBA") from the list. The value that is returned by the expression builder should be placed in the field_name variable in the JoinFieldValue function (minus the brackets and in single quotes).
    Give this a shot and let me know how you do.

  • Declare and initialize a varray of collection Object and pass it as OUT Par

    Hi ,
    How to declare and initialize a varray of collection Object and pass it as OUT Parameter to a procedure.
    Following is the Object and VARRAY Type 's I have created and trying to pass the EmployeeList varray type variable as an OUT parameter to my stored procedure, but it is not working. I tried different possibilities of declaring and initializing the varray type variable but it did not work. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Support for unit testing object types

    There's a Feature Request that suggests expanding the unit test tool to object types:
    Title
    Provide object type support for unit tests
    Description
    In the current version (2.1.0.63) I can perform only unit test for packages, function and procedures. But we use a lot of object types in the database and would like to test them. When is a support for object types scheduled?
    Average Rating
    10
    Development Comment
    This is planned for the next release.
    Status
    Scheduled for 3.0
    Although the status suggests inclusion in v3, in my current version 3.2.20.09 there is nothing.
    This is clearly an important issue for those who have voted for it as it scores a perfect 10 on average rating.
    Is there any sign of object types being supported in the 4.0EA1 release? There is a strong desire within my organisation to move to a more object-based approach to PL/SQL coding but until we are able to unit test easily there will be no real progress.

    If you are ready to learn a little bit of Ruby then you can try [PL/SQL unit testing with Ruby|http://blog.rayapps.com/2009/11/27/oracle-plsql-unit-testing-with-ruby/]. ruby-plsql library [supports also PL/SQL object types|http://blog.rayapps.com/2009/11/25/more-oracle-data-types-supported-by-ruby-plsql-gem/] as input and output parameters and return values.
