Objects missing in database (views)

As information/background, I have been away from SAP and basis for about four years.  Due to personnel changes here, I am now returning to it. While I was away, our SAP system was upgraded from version 4.0B to “SAP R/3 ENTERPRISE 47X110”.  I was not a part of the upgrade and have no details as to how it was accomplished.
At this point, we have two SAP “systems”: DEV and PRD and they are on separate partitions of an i5 520.  Both are running on OS/i5 V5R3M5 with mostly updated CUMe packages, etc, and PASE is installed.  Both of these “systems” use the 6.20 kernel at patch level 1598.  We know that this is an OLD kernel and we need to upgrade.  I am currently planning the kernel upgrade to 6.40.
In our PRD instance, using transaction DB02 I have been seeing that we are  missing  four views in the database:
  Views
    SYSTRIGCOL    Obligatory Base object is missing in DB
    SYSTRIGDEP    Obligatory Base object is missing in DB
    SYSTRIGGERS   Obligatory Base object is missing in DB
    SYSTRIGUPD    Obligatory Base object is missing in DB
Is this a big deal?  Should I worry about it or just continue with my kernel-upgrade planning?
If needed, can I just retrieve the source from the DEV instance, modify the source, and create the views in PRD?
I have confirmed that I can retrieve the DDL source from DEV via iSeries Navigator.  It would then just be a matter of copying it, modifying it for PRD, and then executing it for PRD.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Robert

Hi Robert,
no this isn't critical during daily business, at least not in base release 6.20.
You are missing a couple of system catalog views providing SQL trigger information on a schema basis. (They are views on top of the systemwide cross reference files.)
I've seen this happening if you restore a library from an old OS/400 release (that did not know about those views) to a newer release.
SAP does not use triggers in 6.20 during daily business that's why it is not critical.
It's easy to fix though: You may consider removing all system catalog logical files from your R3<sid>DATA schema (WRKOBJ, 4) according to the following list:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/topic/db2/rbafzmstcatalogtbls.htm#catalogtbls .
The following command will recreate them:
     CALL QSYS2/QSQXRLF PARM(CRT R3<sid>DATA)
Hope that helps!
Best regards,
Dorothea

  • Polymorphic Entity Object on Database View ?

    Hi all,
    We want to implement polymorphism on business components (EO, VO). I have some questions :
    1) On the supertype-subtype, is it better to use ONE table for all subtypes , or using different tables with each subtype ?
    2) Is it recommended to use Entity Object on a Database View + Instead Of Trigger ?
    Thank you very much,
    xtanto

    Our recommendation is in the ADF Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers, in section 26.6 "Using Inheritance in Your Business Domain Layer". A single table is the simplest and most functional.
    There's nothing wrong with using a view with instead-of triggers, as long as your not wasting your time to write PL/SQL that would be duplicating what ADF BC could automatically do for you using join view objects, with multiple entity usages, against multiple underlying tables. In general, you don't need to use views with instead-of triggers. See section 26.5 "Basing an Entity Object on a Join View or Remote DBLink" if you do.

  • Is the best practice to use database views or view objects?

    Hi everyone,
    If the option is available, is it preferable consolidate as much data as possible into a database view instead of doing this through view view objects? It seems the answer would be yes, but I would like to hear the pros and cons related to performance, etc.
    While I do not mind a detailed discussion, practical "rule-of-thumb" advice is what I am after; I am a newbie that needs general guidelines - not theories.
    James

    Performance is the main driver behind the question because I am wondering if it is faster to send a single large record set across a network or several small ones and "assemble" them at the client level.
    Probably is better to send one large record, but you will need to take in account time required to create this one large record in db(maybe oracle object types, or arrays of oracle object types).
    Check this for some VO performance advices: Advanced View Object Techniques  (especially property: "In Batches Of" which defines number of roundtrips between app server and db)
    As far as creating an updatable database view, I know there are minor tricks that are required to make that happen from a strictly SQL standpoint. But, I am curious the best way to go in JDeveloper.

  • Should ADF Entity Object Map to Database Table or View?

    We are building a new 3-tier JClient/ADF application. We have mapped most entity objects directly to database tables. Now that we are preparing to deploy, our DBA is angry; he believes that all entity objects should be mapped to database views. The developers see this as a headache, UML can not forward/reverse changes, and now we have another layer of abstraction, which doesn't seem to serve a useful purpose. What is the best practice in a new 3-tier application?

    Hi,
    I'm still having problems but I found out why these tables are returning errors. The username I've been given by the DBA to connect to the database is CONSULTA, but this user is only for querying purposes, the actual objects reside on a differente schema, of course, which is PROD. So the line:
    "CONSULTA"."ESTADOS"@"PROD@AYADEV_LOCATION" "ESTADOS"
    raises an exception because the table ESTADOS is not located on that schema, but on PROD. If I query the table from SQL Plus with:
    SELECT *
    FROM [email protected]@AYADEV_LOCATION
    then there's no problem at all.
    Why is this? How do I instruct OWB to point to the correct schema or to avoind fully qualifying the table name?
    Please help me, I'm kind of confused here.

  • Database View do not refresh in ADF application

    Greetings,
    im facing a weird problem in my application (JDeveloper 11.1.2.4.0 - ADF). All this time i was working directly with tables (VO), but now i also started using database views.
    Everything works fine, when i add a new row in a table that my Database Views is associated with, it refresh properly.
    BUT if i delete rows manually from my database, the View do not refresh in my application, not by refreshing the page,
    redeploying application, even executing the view object query inside the view object. The only way for the DB View to be
    refresh inside the JDeveloper and on deployment time is by restart JDeveloper. I try adding an action on my OV to re-execute them when
    i do something specifically, hopefully the will reset the cache and retrieve the DB view again, but with no luck..
    Correction: now it doesnt even refresh on restart jdeveloper.
    Just for the clarification, im talking about Database Views, and not just Object Views. I create a Object View inside the application to retrieve the data
    from the Database View results.
    Can you help me on this please?

    Yes the queries in SQLDeveloper was showing me correct results.
    But i feel disappointed.. When i went to close SQLDeveloper to try something, it pop me a message to commit/rollback changes.
    After i commit them, my app show correct results too.

  • Snowflake dimension: named query vs. database view

    A test question features a Product table with a Product Size code; Product Size description is taken from ProductSize table. As far as I can tell, the question asks me to choose between (a) setting up a database view joining Product and ProductSize, and
    (b) doing the join in a data-source-view named query. I don't see a clear winner. (My thinking is as follows.  Yes, he view would speed up the processing, even if not materialized. On the other hand, with a small dataset, the performance gain would be
    minor in absolute terms. Do I want to have an extra database object in the picture?) Yet the question's author does. Can anyone advise please?

    Hi Demyan,
    According to your description, you want to know which is better, using named query in datasource view or using database view, right?
    Based on my research, there is no performance differences between using named query in datasource view and using database view because they both result in SQL query being sent to the source system. Here is a blog which discuss this issue.
    Consistency: If you already have logic in database views, I would continue to use them. As long as you know that you go to one spot to view/change the logic. Putting the logic in 2 different spots could lead to confusion.
    Security Permissions: often you may not have permission to alter the source databases, in this case you have no choice but to setup named queries in the dsv.

  • Using database views in ADF mobile client application

    Hi,
    I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4 and WLS 10.3.4.
    I have developed a POC in ADF mobile client application both with and without synchronization. However, both work with entity objects based on tables.
    I need to use database views instead of tables. When I try to include entity object (based on views) in the view object, it shows an error saying "Only the entity objects based on tables can be selected"
    Please guide me if there is a work around for this.
    Also, please let me know if there is way to develop an ADF mobile client application skipping the use of entity objects at all and using view objects directly to specify the database query and fetch data from the database.
    Thanks in advance.

    Edited by: ansh on Mar 28, 2011 5:40 AM

    Hi, Ansh:
    Currently, out of box, ADF Mobile Client does not support synchronization against Database Views. This is because Mobile Server imposes some schema restrictions to ensure synchronization with multi-table views would work correctly. This schema restriction requires, for example, the view must have a primary parent table with key defined, and also all base table must be included in the data publication. These dependencies requires manual resolution and advanced planning, and is managed outside of the ADF Mobile Client/JDeveloper project.
    To continue development, you would need to create server Entity Objects directly against the base tables. You can then create the mobile ADF Business Component (EOs, VOs, etc). You can then create View Objects in your ADF Mobile Client application based on the database views, in order to retrieve the data you need exactly. In other words, instead of basing EO on the database view, create View Objects in the mobile applicaiton to mimic what you had in the View Object.
    Is there any other reason why you would need to access data via database views, instead of directly against base tables?
    Thanks,

  • Short Dump while fetching values from a Database view

    Hi ALL,
    Here is the code that is giving short dump
    SELECT * FROM ZVMATLMOVE INTO TABLE I_MATLMOVE
        WHERE BUDAT >= V_LASTRUN_DATE
        AND   WERKS IN S_WERKS
        AND   LIFNR IN S_LIFNR
        AND   EBELN IN S_EBELN
        AND   MATNR IN S_MATNR
        AND   BWART IN S_BWART
    (Please don't say that I am using * in the select query,
    I knew that it is not a good way of fetching values)
    Declaration of the internal table is:
    DATA  I_MATLMOVE LIKE ZVMATLMOVE OCCURS 0 WITH HEADER LINE.
    The variable V_LASTRUN_DATE is:
    DATA  V_LASTRUN_DATE LIKE SY-DATUM.
    We will be getting the lastrundate value from another table. And it is passing correct value (ex. 20060731)
    ZVMATLMOVE is a database view created for MKPF and MSEG table. And I checked both table were consistent.
    Dump Analysis:
    Runtime errors         DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR
    Exception              CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB
    Every thing is fine. But I don't know how it is going to dump. Any suggestions?

    Hi !
    It seams that your table is not correct / fully activated.
    To check it out you should try the following:
    - Go to the SE11
    - Give it your table name and go to "Display"
    - Check if the table is "active"
    - Choose "Utilities->Database Object->Check" and see
      if there are any errors
    - go back and choose "Utilities->Runtime Object->Check"
      and see if there are any errors
    If there are any errors - try to activate the table again. You may need the "Utilities->Database Utiliy" for that.
    After there are no more errors by checking all these your program should work.

  • How to get access key while creating database view in R3

    Hi all experts,
    I am new to SAP so please forgive my ignorance.
    From R3, I am trying to create a new database view named ZVENDOR_ATTR  which will be based on LFM1.
    When i go to SE11 -> chose view and click create then it shows a pop up window that says "you are not registered as a developer. Please register in the Online Service System (OSS). In the OSS you will receive an access key."
    I don't know how can i get the access key and proceed now. Please note that i have installed this BW3.5 and R3 on my laptop. From the default user ddic, i have copied and created a new user 'sapuser1'. I am now using the sapuser1 to logon  and attempting to create the above mentioned Database view. It seems like this sapuser1 as it is copied from ddic is not a developer.
    So anybody can please help  how to create/get this access key to proceed  further.
    I will give full points. Please help.
    Thank you so much in advance
    ak

    Thanks All,
    Does it mean that i can not create any database object without the access key from service.sap.com? As i told that i installed this BW3.5 / R3 on my laptop to train myself but i don't have an account on service.sap.com.
    However i can login to R3 system as admin (i have access to the system using ddic or spcpic). Is there a way that a new user with deveoper role can be created by the admin without going to service.sap.com.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

  • Business Components and Database Views - Trouble Creating

    I am trying to create a business component that contains a View that I created in my database. When I get to the fnnal step of creating the business component and it begins to generate the XML and Java code, it bombs out and says that the view object does not support ROWID. I just need to select only GridControl of this view.
    Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. I could not find any info in the JDeveloper help.

    Some options:
    [list]
    [*]Create the entity using the Entity Wizard instead of reverse engineering it from a table. In the entity wizard you can specify the table/view name, then indicate which attribute should function as the primary key.
    [*]Don't bother creating an entity object for this view. You can just create a view object with an "expert mode" query that selects against your database view. It does not need an entity object. Note, however, that without an associated entity you won't get "uniquing" of entity level values, so if another view object being used by the same use changes the data that this grid is showing, the updates won't be automatically synchronized if you go this route.

  • Bad performance when using  complex database view with Toplink

    Hi
    Problem description
    1. I have a complex query that collects the data from many DB tables. For this reason I create a database view based on this select. Using EJB 3.0 with Toplink I
    mapped this view to a java object the same way I map database tables. The method I use to get the results is:
    snippet code...
    public List<VwKartela> VwKartela(Integer pperid) {
    List<VwKartela> results = null;
    Session session = getSessionFactory().acquireSession();
    ExpressionBuilder bankfile = new ExpressionBuilder();
    Expression exp1 = bankfile.get("perid").equal(pperid);
    ReadAllQuery query = new ReadAllQuery();
    query.setReferenceClass(VwKartela.class);
    query.setSelectionCriteria(exp1);
    results =(List<VwKartela>)session.executeQuery(query);
    When running the select on the view prom SQL Plus I haven’t any performance problem.
    2.Question: How can I improve the performance? I referenced to Toplink docs but I didn't improve the it.
    Have anyone any experience is such cases?
    Thank you
    Thanos

    Hi
    After my last tests I conclude at the followings:
    The query returns 1-30 records
    Test 1: Using Form Builder
    -     Execution time 7-8 seconds
    Test 2: Using Jdeveloper/Toplink/EJB 3.0/ADF and Oracle AS 10.1.3.0
    -     Execution time 25-27 seconds
    Test 3: Using JDBC/ADF and Oracle AS 10.1.3.0
    - Execution time 17-18 seconds
    When I use:
    session.setLogLevel(SessionLog.FINE) and
    session.setProfiler(new PerformanceProfiler())
    I don’t see any improvement in the execution time of the query.
    Thank you

  • Query Rewrite with regular database Views

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to make my programmer's life easier by creating a database view for them to query the data, so they don't have to worry about joining tables. However, query rewrite doesn't work no matter how I define the MV and View. Here's an example:
    I've Sales tables with columns: PDate, CustCode, Amount
    and Customer table with columns: CustCode, CustDesc
    I create a view SALES_V with columns: PDate, CustCode, CustDesc, Amount by joining Sales table with Customer table as follows:
    create or replace view SALES_V as
    select PDate, c.CustCode, c.CustDesc, Amount
    from Sales s
    join Customer c on (s.CustCode=c.CustCode);
    For the sake of speed, I create a materialized view SALES_TOT_MV with columns: PDate, Amount with the following SQL:
    create materialized view SALES_TOT_MV
    enable query rewrite
    as select PDate, sum(Amount) Amount from Sales
    group by PDate;
    When I run the following query, I expect it to be rewritten to make use of SALES_TOT_MV:
    select PDate, sum(Amount) from SALES_V
    group by PDate;
    However, explain plan always tell me it's using SALES table, not the SALES_TOT_MV.
    Can somebody tell me it's a limitation of Oracle optimizer or I'm just missing something for this?
    Thanks in advance!!

I say this because you will eventually end up with programmers that know nothing about your data model and how to properly interact with it.
    Additionally, what you will get is a developer that takes one of your views and see's that of the 20 columns in it, it has 4 that he needs. If all those 4 columns comes from a simple 2 table join, but the view has 8 tables, you're wasting a tonne of resources by using the view (and heaven forbid they have to join that view to another view to get 4 of the 20 columns from that other view as well).
    Ideally you'd write stored routines that satisfy exactly what is required (if you are the database resource and these other programmers are java, .net, etc... based) and the front end developers would call those routines customized for an exact purpose.
    Creating views is not bad, but it's by no means a proper solution to having developers not learn or understand SQL and/or the data model.
