OC4J logging of SQL and errors
Hello,
We have a custom j2ee application deployed in a 10.1.2.0.2 managed OC4J container. At some point in my error logs I would get failing SQL listed with the java exception. This made it very easy to trouble shoot permission problems or foreign key violations. I lost the java options settings when we upgraded from 9.0.4 appserver to 10.1.2.0.2.
Does anyone know the correct logging level so I can get erroneous SQL in my logs again?
Any help would be appreciated.
Neil
FYI.. My developer just informed me we use a custom persistence layer and we do not use the toplink persistence layer. Is there anywhere else you know of that I can update the logging?

I've found an error in the italian translation file f4000_it.sql. At the 1137413th row is needed a point after *&SESSION.* in fact the original version is:
c1:=c1||'<a href="javascript:popUp2(''f?p=4000:411:&SESSION::::P411_CALLING_FIELD:#CURRENT_ITEM_NAME#'',320,400);" tabindex="999" title="Scegli colonna" class="itemlink">[Insert column value]</a>';
I've modified in:
c1:=c1||'<a href="javascript:popUp2(''f?p=4000:411:&SESSION.::::P411_CALLING_FIELD:#CURRENT_ITEM_NAME#'',320,400);" tabindex="999" title="Scegli colonna" class="itemlink">[Insert column value]</a>';
Now I can show in Column Formatting correctly when I search fields in Insert column valueHi,
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Bug 9888444 has been logged to track this issue. Please note that this issue impacts users running in French, Italian, Japanese and Korean. When you edit a Classic Report column in the Application Builder, the Column Formatting region holds an item "HTML Expression" with an associated shortcut [Insert column value]. When running in French, Italian, Japanese or Korean, when the user clicks on the shortcut link, the popup displays an error "Bad Request". The popup works for all other languages.
We do not recommend that users modify the APEX internal application files. Instead, you can workaround this issue by directly entering column values into the "HTML Expression" text area in the Column Formatting region on the Column Attributes page, similar to the following:
*#EMPNO#*
where EMPNO is a column on your report.

SharePoint 2010 SQL Permission Errors
We occasionally receive errors in the Event Log for SQL permission errors. I am not able to find what exactly is causing the issue and don't want to grant rights to something if I don't know what it is doing. There error is not specific
to a particular list or library. Below is one example of the ULS log output. I see references to a deadlock but also permission denied.

One of our SQL Server started creating SQLDUMP file and and on investigation I found the error longs are filled with Errors 3624 & 17066. There is transnational replication configured on one of the databases is the LogReader Agent is failing error "The
process could not execute 'sp_repldone/sp_replcounters' on XXXXX".
Not sure if both these Assertion & Logreader Agent errors are related. Before I remove and put the replication, I wanted to check if anyone has experienced the same issues or aware of what the cause.

A system assertion check has failed. Check the SQL Server error log for details. Typically, an assertion failure is caused by a software bug or data corruption. To check for database corruption, consider running DBCC CHECKDB. If you agreed to send dumps to
Microsoft during setup, a mini dump will be sent to Microsoft. An update might be available from Microsoft in the latest Service Pack or in a QFE from Technical Support.
Error: 3624, Severity: 20, State: 1.
SQL Server Assertion: File: <logscan.cpp>, line=2123 Failed Assertion = 'UtilDbccIsInsideDbcc () || (m_ProxyLogMgr->GetPru ()->GetStartupState () < RecoveryUnit::Recovered)'. This error may be timing-related. If the error persists after rerunning
the statement, use DBCC CHECKDB to check the database for structural integrity, or restart the server to ensure in-memory data structures are not corrupted.
Error: 17066, Severity: 16, State: 1.
External dump process return code 0x20000001.
External dump process returned no errors.
Thank you in advance.You need to determine if this error is a transient one or a show stopper one.
It sounds like your log reader agent has crashed and can't continue.
If so your best bet is to call Microsoft CSS and open a support incident.
It also sounds like DBCC CHECKDB was running while the log reader agent crashed.
If you need to get up and running again run sp_replrestart, but then you might find that replicated commands are not picked up. You will need to run a validation to determine if you need to reinitialize the entire publication or a single article.
I have run into errors like this, but they tend to be transient, ie the log reader agent crashes, and on restart it works fine.

Where is HTTP access and error log when using Embedded PL/SQL Gateway?
Hello,
I am using Embedded PL/SQL Gateway to run stored procedures.
I can't find access log and error log (something like Oracle HTTP Server has).
In listener.log are only simple data and there are no usernames and procedure names...
Thanks.
MarianYou might be better off asking this on the Apex forum: Oracle Application Express (APEX)

This 3rd time I followed this link. But nothing new, same error.
Can you please tell me how to do follow, I cannt do the 1st step, how to change the local system to windows level account, vice-versa. It is shown mine as
Server Configuration Manager(Local)
From here I folllowed the steps ---[I cannt insert link/image :-(]
SQL 2008/R2 setup fails with "Wait on the database engine recovery handle failed"
If I right clicked on SQL Server Service, there is no option to change the account.
Hello,
Thanks for your patience,did you tried stesp mentioned in below article
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqljourney/archive/2012/03/16/sql-2008-r2-setup-fails-with-quot-wait-on-the-database-engine-recovery-handle-failed-quot.aspx
To resolve it, follow these steps:-
When the installation throws this error, click on OK and allow it to proceed. It will fail for Database Engine, but the SQL Server service should have
been created. Check the Services console.
If the service is present, perform the following steps:-
1. Go to SQL Server Configuration manager, right click on the SQL Server service, and change the service account (if it is local system, give
it a windows level account, and vice-versa). It might throw a WMI error but you will see the account getting updated anyway. If not, then use the Services console. Change the account for SQL Agent as well.
Use this link to change sql server service account
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345578.aspx
2. Next, try to start the service. It should come online.
3. However, you will not be able to log in to the SQL Server
4. Now stop the service and start it from the command prompt using -m -c -T3608 parameters.
5. Now try logging in to the server using admin connection from sqlcmd (sqlcmd admin:<server name>\<instance name> ...)
6. Once logged in, use the sp_addsrvrolemember '<domain\username>','sysadmin'.
Also add the builtin/administrators to the sysadmin role
7. Now stop the service from the command prompt and start it from SQL Server configuration manager
You should be able to log in to the server now.
Hope this helps someone.

I see this error: Error: 3624, Severity: 20, State: 1
Complete error in the error log is:

I suggest you to run full DBCC CHECKDB , like I said assertion errors are basically related to Internal SQL Server problem

Issue with trigger, multi-table insert and error logging
I find that if I try to perform a multi-table insert with error logging on a table that has a trigger, then some constraint violations result in an exception being raised as well as logged:

Hi, I am trying to debug an authentication issue using a system based on the information in this article: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/1013/oc4jjaas/oc4j_jaas_login_module.htm
IE database/datasource based authentication.
I am getting the following error in the applications OC4J log every time a login attempt is made, no error is seen from the application, authentication simply fails.
When I had the recommended code for fine logging in the j2ee-loggin.xml file (<logger name="oracle.j2ee.security.oc4j" level="FINE" useParentHandlers="false">
<handler name="oc4j-handler"/>
<handler name="console-handler"/>
</logger>) there was no information at all recorded in the OC4J log, not until I removed the extra logger code from that file did entries such as the following begin appearing in the log file. What could be going wrong here? Why is the login process generating a null pointer error and why would the log file not be written too when the fine logging code was added to the config file? Any idea's? All I can really gain from this error message is that the DBTableOraDataSourceLoginModule is at some stage atleast being referenced or called.

What i cant work out is what is causing the login module to abort and raise a null pointer exception. Could this be due to a configuration mistake in the console manager or one of the xml files prior to deployment? I just have no idea how to approach fixing this issue.
I really would appreciate some assistance, 5+ days trying to get this working. I had this working on jdeveloper embedded oc4j, and all the tute's on standalone deployment pass off the configuration of standalone as simple compared to embedded, yet don't go into enough detail to get it working, atleast from my perspective. -
SQL server error log size is too big to handle
I am working with a large database on windows sql server 2008 R2 such that it has to run continuously 24x7 because of that it is not possible
to restart the server time to time. It is kind of monitoring system for big machines. Because of this SQL server error logs are growing too big even some times up to 60-70 GB at a limited sized hard drive. I can't delete them time to time manually. Can someone
please suggest a way using which I can stop creation of such error logs or recycle them after sometime. Most of the errors are of this kind --
Setting database option RECOVERY to simple for database db_name
P.S.- I have read limiting error logs to 6 etc. But that didn't help. It will be best if you could suggest some method to disable these logs.Hi Mohit11,
According to your description, your SQL Server error logs are growing too big to handle at a limited sized hard drive, and you want to know how to stop the generation of such error logs or recycle them after sometime automatically without restarting the
SQL Server, right?
As others mentioned above, we may not be able to disable SQL server error log generation. However we can recycle the error logs automatically by running the
sp_cycle_errorlog on a fixed schedule (i.e. every two weeks) using SQL agent jobs so that the error logs will be recycled
automatically without restarting SQL Server.
And it is also very important for us to keep the error log files more readable. So we can increase the number of error logs a little more and run the sp_cycle_errorlog more frequently (i.e. daily), then each file will in a smaller size to be more readable
and we can recycle the log files automatically.
In addition, in order to avoid the size of all the log files growing into a too big size unexpected (sometime it may happen), we can run the following query in SQL Agent job to automatically delete all the old log files when the size of log files is larger
than some value we want to keep (i.e. 30GB):
--create a tample table to gather the information of error log files
CREATE TABLE #ErrorLog
Archieve INT,
Dt DATETIME,
FileSize INT
GO
INSERT INTO #ErrorLog
EXEC xp_enumerrorlogs
GO
--delete all the old log files if the size of all the log files is larger than 30GB
DECLARE @i int = 1;
DECLARE @Log_number int;
DECLARE @Log_Max_Size int = 30*1024; --here is the max size (M) of all the error log files we want to keep, change the value according to your requirement
DECLARE @SQLSTR VARCHAR(1000);
SET @Log_number = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM #ErrorLog);
IF (SELECT COUNT(FileSize/1024/1024) FROM #ErrorLog) >= @Log_Max_Size
BEGIN
WHILE @i <= @Log_number
BEGIN
SET @SQLSTR = 'DEL C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log\ERRORLOG.' + CONVERT(VARCHAR,@i);
EXEC xp_cmdshell @SQLSTR;
SET @i =@i + 1;
END
END
DROP TABLE #ErrorLog

ESB DB adapter and error logging
Hi !
I need a DB adapter in ESB to read records from a table and do a logical delete (update a status column) .
I can get it to work om my laptop, but not in our dev machines.
I noticed that if I change the the 'mcf-properties' in the wsdl-file for the READ function like this
mcf.DriverClassName="oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver" mcf.PlatformClassName="oracle.toplink.platform.database.oracle.Oracle10Platform"
mcf.ConnectionString="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:ORCLAAAAAA"
mcf.UserName="soatest" mcf.Password="A932C53E63FFDE3D4A8267B2FCE4A0044C1B70BFD42DD194"
so that is wrong I never get any error in any log-file I found.
This makes is very tiresome to debug.
Is there a log where I can find an error message ?
If not , what should I do ?Hello Everyone,
I am stuck with the ESB's "logging" behavior. Due to some problems we had increased the Logging level to FINEST for some and as a result there were too many messages - mainly "Traces" -generated in /../oc4j/log.xml Now the problem is that i am seeing that ESB maintains only 10 to 12 log files.
My query is does it archives the older log files somewhere- if yes then which location?
-Or does it simply overwrites the files (that doesnt seems likely)?
For example: While searching the OC4J Diagnostic Logs from Enterprise Manager Console it is showing that there are 10 selected log files.
But where are the older log files. We need those badly as there are some issues we are trying to fix hinged on the Error Messages.
Thanks

How can I create my own error log in sql
I would like to create an error log table in sql where every time there is an error in sql and every time a stored procedure rolls back it should submit an entry into the error table to show where and what the error was.
Thank you
Debra has a questionI think SQL Server does a fairly good job of creating, writing to, and reading from it's own built-in error log. please see this link for details.

Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it. -
Adpatch: Error running SQL and EXEC commands in parallel
Hi
I am applying R12 RUP2 to an instance at the moment. I had an OS crash (I'm running R12 on Linux on VMWARE) and on reboot attempted to restart the patch.
I now get an error as follows:
Error running SQL and EXEC commands in parallel
I must admit, I'm not a DBA, so if anyone has any ideas or has seen this before then it would be most appreciated!
Thanks
ChrisHi Adith
