OC4J SOAP Question

I am working on a new service provider and thinking to write it in Java and put it into the OC4J. I have successfully deployed a simple program which can take a string as the input value and sent it over http/SOAP and then return another string as the out put. The SOAP request is like:
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
<SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<SOAP-ENV:Body>
<ns1:getEmpSalary xmlns:ns1="EmpService" SOAP-ENV:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<empNo xsi:type="xsd:string" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">asdf</empNo>
</ns1:getEmpSalary>
</SOAP-ENV:Body>
</SOAP-ENV:Envelope>
In this case, I know that my Java program need to have a method call getEmpSalary and it will take a String input.
The new service I am working on will typically send me the SOAP request like:
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
<soap-env:Envelope xmlns:soap-env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<soap-env:Body>
<batchRequest xmlns="urn:oasis:names:tc:XXX:2:0:core">
<smallRequest namevalue1 inputA="someValueA" inputB="someValueB" inputC="someValueC" inputD="someValueD" inputE="someValueE">
<somethingElse>
<present name="someName"/>
</somethingElse>
</smallRequest>
<smallRequest namevalue2 inputA="someValueA" inputB="someValueB" inputC="someValueC" inputD="someValueD" inputE="someValueE">
<somethingElse>
<present name="someName"/>
</somethingElse>
</smallRequest>
</batchRequest>
</soap-env:Body>
</soap-env:Envelope>
My questions are:
What's the name of the Java method I should implement for this particular request? searchRequest? What will be the types of input parameters? How can we handle the "somethingElse" item? Note that it's a grouped request with two smallRequests in it.
I am very new to this field and would really appreciate the help, or if you could just indicate some pointers.
Thanks for the help.

First question: What is the main difference between OC4J
WebServices and WebServices using Apache SOAP 2.2?
Answer:OC4J Web Service is much more scalable than Apache
SOAP2.2 and is in tune with JSR 109 which is going to be part of
J2EE 1.4.
Second question: Is the OC4J style going to replace Apache
SOAP2.2?
Answer:Our direction is OC4J Web Services but we also support
for Apache SOAP 2.2 for backward compatibility. Jdeveloper has
option for deploying to either.
Third question: (How) Is the Oracle XDK (going to be) used OC4J
WebServices and/or Apache SOAP2.2?
Question regarding How-To document:
I've deployed the HelloWS (stateless) pure Java Web Service in
OC4J 9.0.2.0.0 and I can access it's home page. There I can make
a selection for either WSDL, proxy jar or proxy source. If I
select to output the WSDL: http://..../hellows/helloService?wsdl
the webservice returns a internal server error 500, indicating a
NullPointer exception. Analyzing the stacktrace shows me that
the error occurs at or due to:
oracle.xml.jaxp.JXSAXTransformerFactory.getAssociatedStylesheet
(JXSAXTransformerFactory.java:424). The NullpointerException
occurs at oracle.xml.parser.v2.DOMLocator.getSystemId
(DOMLocator.java:104).
Any clues to what I'm missing here? Remember the proxy_jar and
proxy_soruce both return without error.
Answer:I actually I have it running on without any errors. I
can’t think of any problems other than Jdk issues. The certified
JDK is 1.3

• Simple OC4J/Portal Question

Portal URI's begin with "servlet".
If we configure OC4J to mount /servlet, will it disrupt portal? The logs make it look like /pls requests go directly to mod_plsql, but from my architecture diagram, I can't be sure. For example, perhaps /servlet/page? goes through wwpage.jar before getting to mod/pls as part of the parallel page engine and needs to be available to oc4j.
Can anyone shed light on the situation?

Hi "xx",
OC4J uses several ports. The default web listener port is 8888,
the default RMI listener port is 23791, the default JMS listener
port is 9127. Which one do you wish to change?
As Avi says, the "server.xml" file is the main configuration file
for OC4J (for all versions up to the latest -- so it is also
appropriate for whatever version you are using [which you failed
to mention :-]). The "server.xml" contains the locations of the
other XML configuration files. For example, the RMI listener port
is configured in the "rmi.xml" file.
Of-course, this is all explained in the following document:
http://technet.oracle.com/tech/java/oc4j/pdf/oc4j_so_usersguide_r2.pdf
Have you looked through it? By the way, it applies to OC4J
(stand alone) version 9.0.2.0.0. Is that your version?
Anyway, I think it should answer most of your questions, but

• Jakarta Tomcat Connectors (JK) + OC4J setup questions

hi
i'd like to use Apache 2.0 for dispatching requests to OC4J. i've been doing some experimenting and i was able to setup Apache and Jakarta Tomcat Connectors (JK) v1.2 to route requests to OC4J. this seems to be working fine in my development environment but how well supported or reliable is this setup?
the requests are now being dispatched to JDeveloper 10.1.3 embedded OC4J instance. the only way i managed to do this was by modifying the embedded-oc4j/config/default-web-site.xml file and changing the web-site element protocol attribute value to "ajp13". this setup has the drawback that now direct http connections don't work anymore. is there a way to have both ajp13 and http connectors working simultaneously in the embedded OC4J?

Sure there is. Add another web site configuration file, say, myHttp-web-site.xml, which is a copy > of the original default-web-site.xml with http protocol and a different port.
..after retrying this it seems to be working now. thanks.
Can you share how you use the Jakarta Tomcat Connectors v1.2 here?sure, here you go:

• OC4J/JMS question

Is there a possibility to send messages to OC4J/JMS queue from remote client program?

Yes, exactly this way I obtain a connection factory. Here is piece of code, how I do it:
env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "admin");
env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "admin");
env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791/");
Context context = new InitialContext(env);
QueueConnectionFactory connectionFactory = (QueueConnectionFactory)context.lookup("jms/my/test.queueConnectionFactory");
Then I obtain a connection, lookup my queue and create sender:
QueueConnection connection = connectionFactory.createQueueConnection();
QueueSession qSession = connection.createQueueSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
Queue q = (Queue)context.lookup("jms/my/test.queue");
QueueSender sender = qSession.createSender(q);
connection.start();
Then I try send my message and it fails on sender's send method:
TextMessage message = qSession.createTextMessage();
message.setText("Text message text");
sender.send(message);
And exception is:

Hi,
I'm getting the following error when I'm trying to install a soap
service:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.AbstractMethodError:
com/sun/xml/tree/NodeBase.getNamespaceURI
Any ideas?
Jim

Hi,
See your classpath settings for your shell you are working in: The
problem may be with the parser.
SOAP works with DOM level 2 or more, and you do not classes included in
the classpath. or you may have another XML parser which does not support
this.
I suggest you to use:
Xerces 1.4.3.
xerces.jar should come FIRST in your CLASSPATH, as described in
the Apache-SOAP installation instructions.
And donot use multiple versions of the xerces in your classpath.
Hope this solves your problem.
Should you have any further queries please get back to the news group.

• Some problem with SOAP OC4J Server

Hi,
I made very simple webservice, exposes method sayHello like below:
public String sayHello(String name)
return "Hello " + name;
I deployed it on OC4J Soap Server and registered it, then I generated client stub class. When I run this class, get an error:
[SOAPException: faultCode=SOAP-ENV:Server.BadTargetObjectURI; msg=Unable to resolve target object(wssoap.WSSoap): wssoap.WSSoap [java.lang.ClassNotFoundException]]
at wssoap.WSsoapStub.sayHello(WSsoapStub.java:90)
at wssoap.WSsoapStub.main(WSsoapStub.java:39)
I use for all JDeveloper 10g (also for stub class generation). What's wrong?
Krzysztof

Hi,
does this show for any project you try to run, or just for a specific? If it does, does the same issue show after a fresh install of JDeveloper (you don't need to delete the existing instance for this) ?

• How to install Soap on the (Apache) Oracle HTTP Server

Hi,
Does anyone know how to install SOAP on the Oracle HTTP Server? I downloaded a soap version (it seems that the standard version comes without SOAP) from the xml.apache.org site and followed the installation instructions as far as I could (only Tomcat is described). However, no 'soaping'!!! Maybe I'm overlooking something because I cannot imagine that it should be difficult.
Thanks in advance!
Hans

Hans, the SOAP implementation is part of OC4J. You get it out of the box. Check out how to use the out-of-the-box implementation in the tutorials on Web services with Oracle9i JDeveloper at:
http://otn.oracle.com/tech/webservices/htdocs/series/content.html
These tutorials/samples use the implementation of SOAP/WSDL that Oracle calls J2EE Web Services and this is the long term direction of Oracle's Web services implementation. This implementation is what Oracle will be evolving to Sun's Java Web Services Developer Pack as it finalizes into J2EE 1.4.
If you want to use Oracle/Apache SOAP, this too is included in OC4J but its support is being deprecated in future releases of Oracle9iAS in favour of the J2EE Web Services implementation. To find it, check out the OC4J/soap/webapps/ directory for the soap.ear file (it is in a slightly different spot if you are using the full Oracle9iAS R2 but still within the soap directory structure. Simply add <application name="soap" path="../../../soap/webapps/soap.ear" auto-start="true"/> to your OC4J server.xml and <web-app application="soap" name="soap" root="/soap" /> to your OC4J http-web-site.xml, re-start and away you go.
Finally, just to be sure, SOAP support in Oracle9iAS did not appear until 1.0.2.2.x and higher. If using 1.0.2.1 or less, you are correct, there is no SOAP support.
Mike.
Most folks that try out the J2EE Web Services find it is pretty easy to use so

• Configure OC4J with other JDBC Drivers

I want to add ability for OC4J to use mySQL JDBC drivers.
Normally in the J2EE RI you would copy the driver and then use the j2eeadmin tool.
Does anyone have info on getting this to work in OC4J (so I can test EJBs that use that DB).
Note: I did get mySQL working for the JDeveloper9i IDE to get it to work in the IDE I just added a line to C:\jdev9i_902\jdev\binjdev.conf:

• Renamed: Why did my namespace change? soap-env (vs) soapenv

Hello forum. I normally post in the main forum. I hope this is the right place for a SOAP question. I'm sure you'll let me know if it's not.
We have an application which was running fine until last week. The app lives on a machine which is not completely ours (we don't control the environment). This app receives and sends socket messages. Based on the incoming message our outgoing message may be in SOAP or a legacy proprietary format. At the time of transmission we do not know the format of the message.
Our outgoing messages stopped being transmitted. What we found was that there was a bit of logic in our transmitting component which read the first X characters of the message to see if it is a SOAP or legacy message. What we did to determine this was to look for, what we thought was standard "<SOAP-ENV....." It worked for years. (I know there are better ways of doing this and we're working on that now). The problem was that the messages that were failing contained "<SOAPENV...."
Here's the question. The objects which build these messages are called from our messaging app. They should be in the same JVM as the messaging app. The messaging app's SOAP jars have not changed. The JRE was upgraded to 1.3.1_19 from _07. In the messaging app as a test I can build a SOAP message and it still says "<SOAP-ENV...." Where is this other namespace coming from? I decompiled the saaj components and it looks like the MessageFactory makes some calls to the environment to determine the message implementation. Could the problem be here? Has anyone heard of this type of thing happening before or am I just losing my mind.
Thanks as always.

Possibly I don't understand the SOAP implementation. I'm using the same set of SOAP jars (saaj, commons, logging, etc) as I always did. If these jars did not change could / should the message format change? Is the implementation looking outside of my JVM for this implementation?
As to "why" it matters is that I need to know why something in my code has changed. Imagine, for example, that the implementation of String changed. It may still adhere to the normal implementation of String but if my code expects it to look a certain way and it stops looking that way then my code breaks.
As I said in the original post I have handled the issue that it changed but I can't feel comfortable with the application if I fear that it can change again and break my code.
The question is, if the jars related to SOAP (the normal ones you get from sun, I'll provide the list if needed) have not changed then how can the format of the message change?
Thanks again.

• Oc4j behind apache - possible to prevent hitting oc4j port directly?

Hello -
Is it possible to configure OC4J standalone running behind apache to accept only requests coming from apache instead of hitting OC4J's port (8888) ?
We use OC4J stand-alone (9.0.3) behind Apache (1.3.x). We use mod_proxy to send requests from apache to OC4J. The directives in httpd.conf look like this:
ProxyPass /myApp http://myserver.xyz:8888/myApp/
ProxyPassReverse /myApp http://myserver.xyz:8888/myApp/
Therefore, a user typing http://myserver.xyz/myApp will get their request sent to OC4J.
Question: Is it possible to configure OC4J so that it only responds to request going through mod_proxy. i.e., I want to PREVENT someone from accessing myApp by hitting 8888 directly through their browser. Possible?
Thanks.

Hi there,
if you specify the host in you web-site.xml (eg. <web-site host="127.0.0.1" port="8888" display-name="The Web Site">
), then oc4j should only respond to requests from localhost and shouldn't be available externally via apache...
all you should need then is to modify your proxypasses like so:
ProxyPass /myApp http://127.0.0.1:8888/myApp
ProxyPassReverse /myApp http://127.0.0.1:8888/myApp
hope this helps,
Andy

• Soap.jar

I have mine soap.jar (228 kB) in my web app lib folder. This soap.jar is from Apache foundation (now deprecated) SOAP project. With OC4J 10.1.3 comes the other soap.jar (in oc4j\soap\lib folder) with size of 292 kB. My app throw an exception, so I had to replace Oracle original soap.jar (292 kB) with Apache soap.jar (228 kB) and now everything works fine.
Is there a way to tell OC4J to use Apache soap.jar for my app (beacuse it is already in my web app lib folder) without having to replace Oracle soap.jar (because other apps use it or OC4J upgrade would overwrite it)?

No response? :(

• Urgent OC4J Application Problem

Hi,
I am deploying application (with only JSP & servlets --> .war) in Oracle 9iAS with OC4J container(2.0.0.0) in Win 2000 Server.
Considering the classloader mechanism of OC4J (I read through this forum and throught this link http://kb.atlassian.com/content/atlassian/howto/classloaders.jsp). This is causing problems. Particularly in my case, where I want that specific classes should actually be loaded from my application and NOT from parent loaders.
I am encountering the following problems when I run the application using command: (java -jar oc4j.jar)
1) Classes in "soap.jar" contained in my application WEB-INF/lib directory clashes with those present in "JD-OC4J\soap\lib" (where JD-OC4J is my Installed location for OC4j container). Hence running my soap application gives error like this

If the container loads classes from the local path (WEB-INF/classes, WEB-INF/lib) then this should have worked (coz' the application does works on Tomcat, IBM WebShere...) with the same set of parser.
If I remove the above three parsers, then the application initializes BUT the same problems prelude (i.e. Oracle parsers gives problems like: toString() of XML node returns class name, etc).
2) This is another strange problem. I am using apache soap jar (SOAP 1.1 impl) and uses its SOAP deployement tool. Hence I use "soap.jar" in $myapp/WEB-INF/lib/ directory.
But with the above configuration (local=true) the container uses "soap.jar" from location:
-- $OC4J_Home/j2ee/lib
and this causes the "class not found" Exception.
Again help is required specially for the first point.
Thanks,

I am fairly new to SAP, and have been given the task of creating a SOAP interface which will suck out data from SAP, which will be used as an adaptor for another application we use.
I read through some of the documentation online, and found some nice examples of putting data into SAP via SOAP (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/4a/0f1e40777cdd5fe10000000a155106/frameset.htm), but I am after sucking data out of SAP with the help of SOAP.
Could someone please point me in the right direction on this one please?
Thanks.

Hi Udo,
Thank for you the fast reply.
To be honest with you, I'm not sure if it's the XI that I want to make use of or not, I searched the forums and found other SOAP questions in here, so made a presumption this is the place I should be posting. I will tell you what I am trying to do exactly, and maybe you, or someone else could correct me.
I want to setup a SOAP Request XML document on SAP, to spit out a SOAP Response XML document. I have a list of the data fields I want to grab, but little knowledge in how to have SAP export what I want.
If I am not in the correct thread, please could someone direct me to the correct one to post my question again, please?
Thanks again.

• Parameter form using LOV based on SQL to pass param to Discoverer portlet

Hi all
I have a design issue:-
I want to create a parameter form in Oracle Portal to allow users to select the department using searchable LOV (like the torch that is there in various oracle products) and pass the selected parameter to the Oracle Discoverer worksheet portlet. The LOV values is required to come from a SQL query which in turn is dependent on User_name varia ble from the session.
I am looking for any out of the box portlet which can be configured to achieve the same. Any help or pointers in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Puneet
