OCI driver compatibility

Hello, Oracle
I am using Oracle OCI 7 drivers against a 7.3.3 database.
We currently use a classes111.zip file along with oci73jdbc.dll
and oci73jdbc_g.dll dated 10/17/97. This configuration works.
The problem is that when I download the latest classes111.zip
and use the new dlls dated dated 7/10/98 the database hangs.
Could the issue be the core35.dll or core35o.dll. What light can
you shed on this issue.

Oracle 9.2.0.6 client JDBC OCI driver compatibility issue with JRockit 1.4.

I have weblogic server 8.1 sp4 running on Linux E3.0 using JRockit 1.4.2_5.
I cannot seem to get the Oracle driver ojdbc14.jar to work. Yes I have added $ORACLE_HOME/bin to my classpath prior to any weblogic classes, I added $ORACLE_HOME/lib and $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib to my LD_LIBRARY_PATH with no luck.
I get the error "no ojdbc10 in java.library.path".
I keep reading in the JDBC driver notes that the driver is compatible with different version of JDK 1.x but not JRockit. Perhaps Oracle 10 has this fixed.
Anyone experiences the same problem ? I am stuck ..

Oracle database 10.2 drivers ojdbc14.jar may also be used with JDK 5.0.

JDBC/OCI driver for JDK1.2

Hi,
I have an evaluation copy of Oracle8 version 8.0.3.0 and
downloaded the JDBC/OCI driver for JDK1.1 (classe111.zip). The
example I used was also taken from this site, which connects to
the database and lists ename from emp, using scott/tiger.
Everything worked fine under JDK1.1 but I can't get the code to
work with JDK 1.2
Does Oracle provide a JDBC/OCI driver that will work with JAVA
1.2 or am I missing something. Please note that I am not using
Oracle8i.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Openlink Software (http://www.openlinksw.com) provides JDBC 2.0
drivers in version 3.2. This version will be hitting our public
web site next week, but you can get pre-release components from
ftp://ftp.openlinksw.com/pre-3.2/index.html
The JDK 1.2 drivers are all the way at the bottom under the
Windows section.

AIX JDBC OCI Driver

I'm using IBM's WebSphere JDBC connection pool to manage oracle
connections. While the code worked normally on Sun Solaris, I
get ORA-03123, ORA-03127 etc errors on AIX. I'm closing the
resultsets, the statement handles and releasing the connection
after each SQL execution. Is this an AIX JDBC OCI driver problem
or am I missing something.

I found problem like you but on DIGITAL UNIX 4.0D It's an
AIO Consistency Error.. did you know some thing about this??
and For your question OCI7 driver to connect to ORACLE7.3.4 are
in liboci73.so or another extension depend on your OS (I don't
know what's one on AIX) but it must come with Oracle
Installation Package you can install on AIX :>

Unable to use SQLJ OCI driver in weblogic 5.1

Hi,I am trying to use SQLJ OCI driver instead of JDriver on solaries but always get an error "java.sql.SQLException: Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12545" when connection pool is being created.The same works fine if I use JDriver.Moreover when I try with a standalone application which loads SQLJ OCI Driver it also works fine. Is there anything to be done/added in weblogic properties file or startWeblogic.sh for this to work on solaries? ORACLE_HOME is set properly! if not JDRIVER would have thrown the same error!!On NT it works great!!

To us, a JDBC driver is just a JDBC driver provided that it is JDBC complaint. Make sure that you have the ORACLE_HOME set to point to the base directory where the Oracle client is installed and LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes the $ORACLE_HOME/lib directory. If this still doesn't help, can you post the relevant section of the weblogic.properties file and the complete error message including the stack trace?

Oracle OCI Driver

We have a setup accessing an Oracle-database (9.0.1 and 9i) from a
java program using an Oracle thin driver like this:
jdbc:oracle:thin:@host:port:sid
This works fine. Now we wanted to try the OCI-driver for speed
comparision (mainly bypassing socket communication).

This didn't work. We use the classes12.zip for Oracle 9.0.1. downloaded

Hi Elango,
One cannot connect to the database using host:port:sid when using OCI driver. Strange.
It has to be a TNSname or a url .
jdbc:oracle:oci8:@(description=(address=(host=myhost)(protocol=tcp)(port=1521))(connect_data=(sid=orcl)))I tried this (adapted to our database of course) and also (because we have tnsnames.ora setup too):
jdbc:oracle:oci8:@tns_name
With the same effects. ('tnsping tns_name' works)
I think the problem lies somewhere else. The system doesn't even try to actually connect
before it throws that exception. Some driver incompatibility, I guess. But I don't know,
what I did wrong or where to look. Especially that 'Exec format error' is suspicious,
because we'd like to use 64bit if possible.
Also, for when this starts to work, I'd like to know how to make sure there is no socket
connection being used. I vaguely remember something like
jdbc:oracle:oci8:@beqlocal:tns_name
but I don't know the exact syntax. There are several database on that machine, so just
beqlocal wouldn't be enough, unless it also uses the environment-variable
ORACLE_SID

Oracle OCI driver stops working after a while of disuse

I am using wl server 8.1, oracle oci driver (oracle 9i client), on solaris.
When i create a connection pool using the oci driver, it connects, and i
test it, and the tests run fine.
The Application works for a few days. Then eventually after disuse, say over
the weekend, I get exceptions in the log (the message is at end of email).
This is because it gives me a sql exception saying it cannot resolve the
service name. The database is up and running, confirmed.
I tried testing the connection pool manually through the console, and it
failed with the service name exception. But it would connect fine when i
used sqlplus to connect to the databse, using the same service name.
Why does this deteriorate over time? Is there a specific test that would
prevent this from happening?
Once i restart the weblogic server, the connection pool connects fine. But
this is not a solution, since I can't be restarting the server all the time.
Any one got any ideas?

-AyanHi. Is there a firewall between the weblogic server and DBMS? There is
a problem with OCI losing connectivity to the DBMS. OCI may be keeping
a socket open as long as the process (weblogic) is running.

You should confirm that you can connect to the DB with a simple Java class using the url that the code you posted is using.
This will show that the OCI client is installed and executing properly. If you can't connect externally you will need to fix that first.
Is the Oracle client installed on the same machine the JDBC code is running on?

Blue Ray Disk drive compatibility with DVD S Pro, Mac Pro

Ok, I'll make this an official question, where might I find info on BDR drive compatibility with DVD S Pro, Mac Pro, etc? I'm a little surprised that there doesn't seem to be much info available.
I can always use my Pioneer BDR-202 with a windows box, I have several, but I'm trying to get AWAY from them.
Any thoughts, links, etc. welcome, thanks

Blu-ray offers a level of interacivity that is not possible with DVDs, so it isn't just an different drive that you are getting with Blu-ray. Seeing how Apple didn't upgrade DVD SP with the new FCP Suite 2, it is reasonable to assume they are working on a separate Blu-Ray Studio Pro, that is going to be completely different than DVD SP. Adobe Encore's support for Blu-Ray is extremely buggy, so obviously moving from DVD programming to Blu-Ray programming isn't just a simple tweak to the code.
Apple doesn't pre-announce software they are working on so this is all guess work, but it is reasonable to assume that they are working on a Blu-Ray programming application. Be patient. Do you really have the money to burn on the bleeding edge of new technology? A single Blu-Ray burnable disc sells for $20. Two months ago the exact same disc sold for $45. Prices will continue to fall as things stablize.

shipped as source with Kodo:
In newer Kodo versions (at least in 3.3.4), the method
public void setString (PreparedStatement stmnt, int idx, String
val, Column col)
has the following code block:

This block seems to be intended for select statements but is called on
inserts/updates also. The latter causes a known problem with the Oracle
oci driver when settings CHAR columns as FixedCHAR, which reports an
ORA-01401 error (inserted value too large for column) when definitely no
column is too long. This does not happen with the thin driver.
We reproduced this with 8.1.7 and 9.2.0 drivers.
For us we solved the problem by subclassing OracleDictionary and removing
the new code block.

(fyi -- an oem install is not considered to be an oracle client install)
use the jdbc oci 8.1.6 driver only from a platform with the oracle 8.1.6 client installed.
what you've indicated is you're using an 8.1.6 jdbc driver with an 8.1.5 oracle client -- that will not work.
move to an all 816 client and jdbc driver to "synch up" the dll's you mentioned.

For running the application with the OCI driver, the system should have the Oracle database or Oracle database client installed. Also, ensure that the following environment variables are set:
On Windows, ensure the following:
i) ORACLE_HOME\lib directory is in the PATH
ii) ORACLE_HOME\bin directory is in the PATH
After performing the above mentioned things, try again.

Looks like a classloader issue. BEA class loader is very tricky. Any jar added manually in classpath, will end up loading only those classes. Any imports that we have in any of those classes do not get loaded. Anyhow, coming to your point, add classes12.jar inside your portal web project Web-Inf/lib folder and see if that helps. Usually thats where we put all the JARs for 8.1 SPxx applications. If this still breaks, then remove the jar from web-inf/lib folder and add under your portal app App-Inf/lib folder. First try with app-inf/lib folder having this jar. If not then with web-inf/lib. Basically web-inf is specific to that web app only. If you have a different app having this jdbc code, then put under app-inf/lib folder. Make sure that you remove the classes12.jar that you added in classpath either in env variable or in setdomainenv.cmd file.
When weblogic uses native OCI Drivers, it refers to jars at this location: ....\beawlp814\weblogic81\server\ext\jdbc\oracle\10g or 9g. Try using one of these jars and see if that works. Most of the times I used these jars only for oracle specific native drivers.
Word of caution. Try to use Connection Pool and a DataSource created in weblogic console for your jdbc code. This Datasource can still use the Oracle drivers that you want (instead of BEA Weblogic wrapper oci drivers) located in above location. Use JNDI Lookup and get Datasource and then connection. This is more recommended approach with many advantages then using DriverManager approach..
