OCR Image Files only

I am running Adobe 9 Pro under Window 7. I have a large number of PDF documents, a few of which are image files only which I wish to have OCRed so they are searchable. Is there a way I can do this in batch mode so only the image only files are processed? If this in not possible, can I list the files that have not been OCRed. If I run the accessibility check as a batch command, it generates a large amount of information per file, so I was after a more efficient method.

Many thanks for this advice, Dave. I had a look at Preflight and would appreciate a little more information if possible. Which specific check did you have in mind? Is it possible to include a fixup as part of the check? And to do this on a group of files, does it require creating a droplet?
Thanks for your help.

  • Browse image files only - OS X problem

    Hello,
    Adobe documentation says this should work:
    var fileRef = new FileReference();
    fileRef.browse([{description: "Image files", extension: "*.jpg;*.gif;*.png", macType: "JPEG;jp2_;GIFF"}])
    It does work under Windows, I see only the image files. But it doesn't work under Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). Tested on two Mac's, Firefox and Safari but I do not see any files at all, neither image files. Flash is created in CS3, AS2, exported for FP9. Does anybody know how to fix this? It is driving me crazy. :-/
    Thanks!

    Hey uziel200,
    I apologize, I'm a bit unclear exactly what you are seeing, and in what circumstances. If you are talking about what is also referred to as image persistent or ghosting, you may find the information and steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • How to examine pdf for image file formats, OCR, and layers

    Hi,
    I have a question about how to find out specific features of a pdf.  I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro for windows.
    With any given PDF, I am looking to find out:
    a]  The specs of any image files used  to create the pdf (i.e., if the pdf is made up of text pages with image objects on top of them, are those image objects JPGs?  TIFFS?  What resolution are they? Are they compressed?)
    b]  Does this PDF have OCR already embedded in it?
    c]  Does this PDF have multiple layers?
    with a] -- file format is perhaps the most important, resolution and compression being second most
    with c] -- is there an easy way to see the layers, visually, on the page images?
    What is a smiple way to find out this information?
    I've poked around a bit in the "Examine Document" function, and various checks in "Preflight," as well as the help manual, and have found bits and pieces that look like some of what I'm looking for, but nothing simple or conclusive yet.
    Any help or advice would be wonderful!  I just want a simple way to be able to see what my PDF is made out of, in terms of image files, OCR, and layers.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Preflight is inded the best way to do this operation. You may have to read a bit to figure out what you are looking at, but that is the right route to take.

  • Incredibly strange file size discrepancy only appears in image files (jpg, gif, png)!

    I'm creating a bunch of banners for google ads, yahoo ads, ...etc in Photoshop on my Mac OS!
    The .gif files of these banners appear to TRIPLE in size when on the MAC (>150KB), but when transferred to windows; the real file size shows correctly! (<50KB)
    It is not a result of the base2 vs base10 discrepancy since the difference in size is simply too big, and it only happens with files created on Photoshop on my Mac.
    The reason I know that windows is showing the correct size while my Mac OS is displaying the wrong size, is that the file gets approved by google and yahoo ads, even though Mac OS shows that it surpasses the size limit (50KB) three times over!
    This isn't an isolated incident either, all image files created in Photoshop on the MAC continue this weird behaviour! However, files downloaded from the net appear to be consistent on both operating systems!
    One example is the attached screenshot:
    Explanation, please??

    Geez, sorry I offended you Mr. Jobs (incarnate)!
    You came in here with a three ton chip on your shoulders. Did you really expect sunshine and puppies in return?
    No, I expected useful help, and I got it from Jeffrey Jones. Thanks again Jeffrey!
    I mean, when you move or upload it, it loses this data association anyways!
    To a drive which doesn't support Apple's AB tree structure (NTFS, FAT, FAT32, exFAT), yes. To another HFS+ drive, no.
    What about uploading the file to the cloud?? Does it lose this association or not?? And does anyone really care about the data in the Resource fork?
    This "Resource Fork" means nothing to the file owner, only to the OS and the Drive. Therefore, it shouldn't be added to the total. Period. Because its not part of the file, its part of Apple's tree structure! This is really a simple concept, not sure why you are bending over backwords to defend a clearly stupid oversight from apple!
    There's no reason to force me to use the command line to get the real file size of a GIF! There's just no excuse for that!
    If an OS is saying it is fetching file size information for a single file, it should do exactly that! Not add hidden Resource Forks that are part of the OS's internal workings
    OS X is fetching the file size. It's file size, not the way a different OS would report it.
    There is no such thing as it's file size. A file size is a file size, accross all platforms, on the cloud, wherever!
    A GIF file should have the same file size whether its on windows, linux, unix, darwin, freeBSD, or anything else. The only time its weight should vary is in outer space!
    That is why I'm surprised that they are breaking simple UI Design rules.
    The User Interface has nothing to do with the file structure of a drive.
    I don't care about the structure of the drive!! Neither should you, neither should the average user!
    A good UI should NOT concern the user with this! The average user doesn't care about these Resource Forks, and will never try to view them, therefore, there is no logical reason to add up their file sizes to the total size of each file, and then to make things worse, hide that fact! That only creates confusion, and it makes it so much harder for a designer like myself to view the REAL file sizes of my image files! Now, whenever I'm on my MAC, I will have to run command line scripts to be able to see if my GIF files (that I work on EVERYDAY) meet the file size quota, because Mac OS adds up hidden files that I have no use for and gives me the WRONG file size!
    Let's say this again: when you select a file and click get info, you should get the info for the file you selcted. Nothing more, nothing less! I don't care if the file structure creates an entire colony of hidden files, they should be completely hidden to me, and if not, the Get Info dialog box should at least give me two sizes, one is the REAL file size, and the other is the added up file size for the Resource Fork as well (although I can't think of any good reason why it should add up the Resource Fork size anyways)!
    do you think it is at all logical, that when you select 300 or so files, and click Get Info, that it open 300 windows at once each showing separate information for each file? Or does it make a lot more sense, intuitively, to get the total tally of all the files selected added up, without having to hold down shortcut keys when clicking them to do so?
    Yes, it is logical because that's what you, the user, told the OS to do. You wanted the Get Info data on 300 individual items. I don't know about you, but I avoid the menu bar as much as possible (your reference to avoiding shortcut keys). Command+I will always give you singular Get Info dialogue boxes.
    No, that's not what I told the OS to do. I selected 300 files cumulatively, therefore, I should get the cumulative info for all the selected files. That's just common sense. Every other OS seems to get this!
    And I'm hard pressed to find anyone who has found a use for having 300 get info boxes open at the same time. Therefore, that shouldn't be the default.
    Will you start defending apple's decision to stick with the one button mouse for all these years depriving us from the all important context menu as well?? There was absolutely no good reason to do that, just as there is absolutely no good reason to do this!

    it shouldnt be new FileFilter() there, it should be new ImageFilter() but it gives a compilation error saying i cannot apply that parameter to the listFiles() method in the File class

    I'm confused.
    You already ARE using a FileFilter to only pick up image files. Whats the problem?
    If you need to recurse directories you need to change your code only a little.
    Write your method
    JFileChooser fc = new JFileChooser();
    fc.setFileSelectionMode(JFileChooser.DIRECTORIES_ONLY);
    //Handle open button action.
    int returnVal = fc.showOpenDialog(MainAppGUI.this);
    if (returnVal == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) {
      dir = fc.getSelectedFile();
    if (dir.isDirectory()) {
      scanDirectory(dir);
    else{
      // not a directory
    public void scanDirectoryForPhotos(File directory){
      // taking your code
    if (dir.isDirectory()) {
      File[] files = dir.listFiles(new ImageFilter());
      for (int i = 0; i < files.length; i++) {
        if (files.isFile()) {
    // details deleted
    // recurse through directories
    else {
    scanDirectory(files[i]);
    Your exception handling is a little strange. You throw an exception only to catch it immediately to print a stack trace? Not exactly the most common handling I've seen. You should probably just throw the exception and let the next level down handle it.

  • PDF files only print as "images"

    My computer recently crashed and I was forced to reset it to factory settings and reinstall all my programs and data.  I downloaded Acrobat Reader XI, but have been unable to print PDF documents other than as "images."  It now takes several minutes to download each page before it prints.  I have gone into the advanced settings and tried all kinds of options, the only one that seems to work is to print as an image.  Help!

    My printer light blinks like it's receiving something, but then never prints.  The light stops blinking and the printer icon in the corner goes away like it thinks it printed.
    I'm puzzled too.  I've never not been able to print a PDF file.  I've also never worked so hard to do so!  Frustrating to say the least.
    Each page printed as an image (the only way it will print at all) takes about 2-3 minutes to print ... EACH PAGE.  Ugh.  A real time waster for sure.

  • How do I not show image file name, only url link - Acrobat Pro 9

    Both file name and url ink show when placing cursor over image. I want to only have url link appear.
    And if that's not possible, I want to then change the image file name. Any ideas?

    Use a button field for the link. You will have to add the action or JS code to open the link.

  • Transferring image files as information files only

    We have 30g of image files and live in 2 diff. cities, files are identical. We want a person in 1 city to sort, then send information file without the actual pictures to the other city. Then we want the other city to import the file and be able to find the matching 30g of files. Does this make sense?
    How do we go about doing this? Is there a plug-in for this type of thing?

    This can be done if the files are in the exact same folder structure on a drive that has the exact same volume name.
    Get rid of all the previews in the aperture library to make it as small as possible, make sure all the files are referenced and then compress the aperture library and send it back and forth.
    This will give you everything including all the Aperture adjustments.
    There is a ton of stuff about previews/file management on my site.

  • Help me to do this "IMAQ"-2 image file attached

    Dear friends
    In this i attach my image file in Tif format & jpeg format
    Please go through this vi
    this vi it will display a image window when u click inside that window a square box will create, where ever u click it will create multiple box. i used imaq windraw function, u can see another image window in the front pannel also.
    now my aim is to put a box over that spot with the spot as center and to extract the pixel values of the individual boxes,
    now whats happening is when i run this program a image window is opening from the imaq windraw function in that 1ly i can able to put multiple box but that box is displayed in the image display in the front pannel also. but i cant put the box in the image window in the front pannel. if u click the mouse in the image window in the front pannel it will display the 25x25pixel values.
    i want both to be done in a same window i want to put a multiple square box and the pixel values i want to extract seperately for the individual boxes. please help me give some ideas how to do this please modify this vi.

    Sasi,
    I am a little confused on what exactly you want to do and why you are using both WinDraw and an Image Display Control to show the image. It sounds like what you want to be able to do are the following 3 things:
    1) Display the Image
    2) Click on the image and have a rectangle overlay appear on image
    3) Get the pixel values from that rectangle into an array
    If I am understanding you correctly, then you should only display the image using one of the above display methods and have only a signal case structure in your code that adds the overlay to the image AND extracts the pixel values. I am a little unclear as to why you have decided to only get the pixel values if the user clicks on the Image Display and only draw the rectangle if the user clicks on the WinDraw display.
    I have attached an image of a block diagram, which is what I think that you are trying to do. In the block diagram you can see that I have combined everything into one case structure so that whenever a user clicks on the Image Display (no WinDraw) then I add a rectangle overlay to my image and also get the pixel values for that area. If you want to keep track of the pixel values for each rectangle then you could use a shift register and build up a 3-D array with all of this information ... or write the data to file ... or use another method to keep that data for future use.

  • Disc image file & CSS encoding?

    I originally exported a project with CSS encoding from DVDSP to a DLT tape for replication. (DDP 2.0 with CSS)
    I then created a disc image file of this project and don't remember if I had checked CSS format. Is there a way to determine this by looking through the Video_TS folder or possibly another way.
    thanks,
    dave

    Dave,
    Disc Images, per se, cannot have CSS applied to them (they're fixed at 2048 bytes per sector). This is so you can write the Image to DVD-Recordables - which is not allowed to have CSS on them, or mount the Disc Image on various machines; again, no CSS allowed in that application.
    For sure, Disc Images do have CSS applied to them, but this is only during DDP 2.0, DDP 2.1, or CMF formatting. Though then, you'll have an unplayable Disc Image in that case, until the replicator applies the unscrambling keys during mastering.
    So, if you left the CSS option on, it would have no affect (setting ignored) if formatting a regular "img" to hard drive or Recordable.

  • How to make a image file from Pre installed Mac osx ? "PLEASE HELP :("?

    hey guys ..Thanks u for the time.
    So i have this eMac which has crashed and i have got may hands on another eMac.. and it works
    ... the only problem is.. I can take my eMac to the working eMac to do Target Mode or any thing...
    So Help me..
    My question is .. Is there a way to make a .DMG image file from pre installed mac osx OR
    Is there a way to may a recovery disc??

    You can use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy everything from the working eMac onto the non-working eMac while the working eMac is running. If your eMac will still do target mode into the working one, you can download the above software, select the booted drive as the source drive, and your eMac's drive as the target, however it is possible this will not work.
    When you say your eMac crashed, what exactly happened?  It is possible that the hard drive in your eMac failed or is failing, so in order to get it running again you would need to replace the hard drive.  On the eMac, this repair is somewhat involved, and you have to be very careful because it exposes the CRT, which has several areas which can be extremely dangerous to touch if not properly handled.  CRTs retain a great deal of voltage, even when unplugged, sometimes for weeks, and they can give you a nasty shock if you touch them in the wrong place.
    Also keep in mind that cloning from the working computer to the non-working computer will ERASE any data that you have stored on that eMac, so if you don't have it backed up anywhere, you may want to attempt that with target mode before proceeding.
    Good luck!

  • How to Copy an Image File from a Folder to another Folder

    i face the problem of copying an image file from a folder to another folder by coding. i not really know which method to use so i need some reference about it. hope to get reply soon, thx :)

    Try this code. Make an object of this class and call
    copyTo method.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class FileUtil
    extends File {
    public FileUtil(String pathname) throws
    NullPointerException {
    super(pathname);
    public void copyTo(File dest) throws Exception {
    File parent = dest.getParentFile();
    parent.mkdirs();
    FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(this); //
    Open the source file
    FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(dest); //
    Open the destination file
    byte[] buffer = new byte[4096]; // Create an input
    buffer
    int bytes_read;
    while ( (bytes_read = in.read(buffer)) != -1) { //
    Keep reading until the end
    out.write(buffer, 0, bytes_read);
    in.close(); // Close the file
    out.close(); // Close the file
    This is poor object-oriented design. Use derivation only when you have to override methods -- this is just

    I work in a multiple editor enviroment, where we have hundreds of different projects.  They are all divided into sparse image files to keep them all separated.  I used to be able to mount multiple sparse image files and see them all in FCPx.  But recently, FCPx upon opening, will close out all but one sparse image.  The images are still mounted to the OSx but FCPx will not recognize them.  I can only open one sparse image at a time.  I am needing to export multiple projects at the end of the day, and can't batch export or send them all to compressor because I can open up multiple projects.
