ODBC error in Access 2007

Hello,
I have an Access 2007 application, the front end for an Oracle 11g R2 database (latest patch, 11.2.0.2). Using client ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1) - latest.
The error is related to adding/deleting records from a linked table. Here are the steps to reproduce it:
1. Open any Oracle linked table and add a record.
2. Select the record you added on step 1 and delete it (by selecting it and pressing Delete button. Access will show a warning message:
"You are about to delete 1 record(s). etc...". Press "Yes".
3. If I'm trying now to delete another record from the table, I get the message "Microsoft Office Access database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time." I am however the only user; if I open the table and skip step 1, then deletion works fine.
Even worse, sometimes if I open the table and just start randomly deleting records and answer both "No" and "Yes" to Access warning messages ("You are about to delete 1 record(s). etc..."), then the whole Access application crashes...
Is there anybody experiencing the same issues? Can I resolve it by adjusting some ODBC settings?
Thank you,
M.R.

Here at OpenLink Software - we come across stuff like this all the time!
Try turning on ODBC tracing - via the "Tracing" tab in the ODBC Administrator - and take a look in the resulting trace file for obvious errors...
Search the trace file for occurrences of the string "SQL_ERROR".
You can usually skim through trace files pretty quickly looking for errors and error message text - since the latter tends to be the only thing that fills the whole width of your chosen editor/viewer...
Alternatively, consider using an alternative ODBC Driver such as our own --

  • Error Connecting to Access 2007 database

    Hi there,

    When we go to open the Access 07 file we have to select all files\there is no Option for Access 2007
    Maybe we need to install something additional?
    Many thanks

    Look for Product info for our next version to see if it added to supported platforms for the next release of Crystal Reports.
    Update:
    Confirmed that Microsoft is not enhancing the DAO engine so we will not be updating our connector either. ODBC and OLE DB work great.
    Even More info form our Product Team:
    Just to be really clear - Microsoft is not exposing Access 2007 format databases (.accdb files) via DAO. They have declared DAO dead and are not enhancing it. OLEDB is the preferred way to connect to Access 2007 files.
    As noted in the Platform Support document for Crystal Reports 2008:
    DAO technology cannot be used to access the Microsoft Office 2007 file formats: Microsoft Access 2007 .accdb, Microsoft Excel 2007 .xlsx (XML) and .xlsb (Binary). These file formats are supported using the Microsoft 2007 Office System drivers for ODBC and OLEDB.
    Anyone can download the Microsoft 2007 Office System drivers for ODBC and OLEDB, here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7554F536-8C28-4598-9B72-EF94E038C891&displaylang=en
    There is no charge for those drivers. Of course if you have Office 2007 installed, you donu2019t need to download the drivers.
    Starting with Office 2010, there will be 64-bit versions of these drivers, which will help our 64-bit Visual Studio customers.

  • [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle]Syntax error or access violation

    Hi,
    When I am trying to connect to Oracle 8.1.6 database using Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle. The connection is established.
    But while creating CallableStatement, I am getting error "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle]Syntax error or access violation".
    What I need to do to resolve this problem.

    Hi Satish
    It could be an issue with the driver.
    You can try with the OLEDB n Oracle native connection to test if the issue persists.
    Also you can refer to the [Troubleshooting Database Connectivity for Crystal Reports|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/d05b3bb7-0f28-2c10-4ea3-84dbdc4e414e&overridelayout=true]

  • Vb6 ODBC - Syntax error or access violation in oracle 11g migration

    Hi,
    We have VB6 application with Oracle 10g and the same is working fine.
    Now, we are migrating to Oracle 11g now and we have updated the odbc drivers too.
    { call M_FR(?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?) }
    L_ID = 890083
    V_ID = 1
    SUB_ID = 6955141
    SUB_SEQ = 1
    P_CODE = 1
    L_SUP_TYPE = 1
    L_REF_NO = 1
    DELETE_REASON_CODE = 1
    When calling the above sp in oracle 11g getting error: [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle]Syntax error or access violation.
    But user has all the right and no issue with access. Also no syntax error. In SQLplus the same is working fine.
    Kindly help us to resolve this issue.

    Try downloading the latest version of the 8.1.6 driver off OTN.
    That sounds like a bug that was fixed a while ago.

  • OLE DB or ODBC error: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied

    Hi,
    I have one client and one server.  In both hosts I created an OS-user named User1.
    The user have been given various role under the prefix SQLServer2005.
    The default instance of SQL Server and instance (background-process) of
    Analysis Service are also run under User1.
    I connected via Management Studio to Analysis Service directly in the
    server.  I set the permission to access Analysis Service to Everyone.
    This means everyone should be able to use Analysis Service.  I have set
    ODBC data source to the server.  Testing was successful.
    I created a project to create a cube.  The tables are fairly small (total 300 MB, biggest one 290).
    On project setting (created at client) I set the server host as
    deployment target. I managed to deploy project when all I have are Data
    Source and Data Source Views.
    But on deployment I always failed.   The errors remain the same, begins with
    OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.; 08001.
    I have tried 4 combinations of Impersonation :
    (A) Use a specific username and password
      * in which I supply User1 and the password of User1
    (B) Use the service account
    (C) Use the credentials of the current user
    (D) Default
    Why is this? The server does certainly exist.  I think the error message is wrong.
    I have seen 3 posting that seems related.  One of them say the solution is giving the right impersonation, but gave no detail.  About the privilege, User1 are granted the role of
    SQLServer2005MSOLAP.  What is the solution?
    Thank you,
    Bernaridho

    I just had this problem and solved it by creating an alias in SQL Server Configuration Manager, as below:
    Scenario: My SQL server is accessible from the internet under my.domain.com, and from itself at ServerName. But the local network can't see itself through the router at my.domain.com, so the deployed project is unable to process the cube, since that would
    require Analysis Services to be able to see the SQL Server at my.domain.com, which it can't do.
    So I changed the server in my project from my.domain.com to ServerName, and I created a local alias to ServerName in SQL Server Configuration Manager, under SQL Native Client 11.0 Configuration, Aliases. In my case, I pointed it to localhost port 1333, and
    used SSH -L 1333:my.domain.com:1433, but I could have pointed the alias directly to the server, just as well. (Verifying... yes, that worked too, so you can forget SSH if you have no interest in it.)

  • Access 2007 Reports, Reader 8.0 to 9.0 error

    We are running Windows XP SP 3 on 3,000+ systems at my location.   I had previously sent out certain reports from within Access 2007 as PDF files attached to emails.  Over the last few weeks we have been upgrading to Reader 9.0 and all of a sudden any reports generated on those upgraded systems are going out incorrectly.  The pdf files are no longer landscape even though the settings are still the same.  Has anyone seen this previously?  The only difference between the systems is the version of Reader.
    -James

    The advice I have seen in this forum, many times, is that you do NOT have Acrobat and Reader installed together, since some components are the same (same module name?) and installing Reader causes problems for Acrobat

    Your code looks something like this.
    DB_URL+=filename.trim()+";DriverID=22;READONLY=true}";
    con = DriverManager.getConnection( DB_URL ,"","");
    Your code needs to look like this.
    DB_URL+=filename.trim()+";DriverID=22;READONLY=true}";
    System.out.println("DB_URL=[" + DB_URL +"]");
    con = DriverManager.getConnection( DB_URL ,"","");
    Once you have run that then you post all of the line that println() prints here. You copy and paste it (do NOT retype it.)
    Then you also post the full stack trace.

  • Problem calling Oracle function from Access 2007 / ADO

    Hopefully, I'm posting this in the correct forum. I'm also posting on an Access forum as I'm not entirely sure where the issue lies.
    I'm calling an Oracle function from Access 2007 using an ADO Command object.
    The function takes three input parameters and has a return value and an output parameter. The output parameter is a BLOB, and the return value is varchar2 (either "T" or "N") based on the outcome of the function.
    If I pass correct values to the function, I get the following error message (errs out on the command.execute line):
    Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)':

    P_REVISION IN VARCHAR2,
    X_DRAWING OUT BLOB) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS

    RESULT := 'T';
    BEGIN

    RESULT := 'N';
    END;
    RETURN(RESULT);
    END GET_ITEMREV_ATTACH;
    Here's the VB code I'm using to call the function:
    Private Sub Command8_Click()
    Dim CMD As New ADODB.Command
    Dim conn As ADODB.Connection
    Dim Param1 As ADODB.Parameter
    Dim Param2 As ADODB.Parameter
    Dim Param3 As ADODB.Parameter
    Dim ParamBlob As ADODB.Parameter
    Dim ParamReturn As ADODB.Parameter

    With conn
    .ConnectionString = "Driver={Oracle in OraHome92};Dbq=OAPLY;UID=***;PWD=*******"
    .CursorLocation = adUseClient
    .Open
    End With
    Set CMD = New ADODB.Command
    Set CMD.ActiveConnection = conn
    CMD.CommandText = "immi_attach_pub.get_itemrev_attach"
    CMD.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
    Set ParamReturn = CMD.CreateParameter("RESULT", adVarChar, adParamReturnValue, 1)
    CMD.Parameters.Append ParamReturn
    Set Param1 = CMD.CreateParameter("P_ORGANIZATION_ID", adInteger, adParamInput, 1, 6)
    CMD.Parameters.Append Param1
    Set Param2 = CMD.CreateParameter("P_INVENTORY_ITEM_ID", adInteger, adParamInput, 4, 5207)
    CMD.Parameters.Append Param2
    Set Param3 = CMD.CreateParameter("P_REVISION", adVarChar, adParamInput, 2, "04")
    CMD.Parameters.Append Param3
    Set ParamBlob = CMD.CreateParameter("X_DRAWING", adLongVarBinary, adParamOutput, 200000)
    CMD.Parameters.Append ParamBlob
    CMD.Execute , , adExecuteNoRecords *** this is where the error occurs
    conn.Close
    MsgBox CMD.Parameters("RESULT")
    End Sub
    I've tried using different data types for the varchar2 parameters (adVarChar, adBSTR, adChar) with no difference.
    If I pass a bogus value for Param3...."'04'"...the function returns "N" indicating that it actually executed something. But, when I pass the correct value "04", it returns the above mentioned error.
    I can execute the function in PL/SQL just fine, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the parameters, datatype, or other definitions on the Access side.
    Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm at a dead end with this. Sorry for the long post. Thank you.

    I tried your code with 11107 ODBC/client/database (but with a NULL output blob for convenience sake) and got no errors.
    If you're using 92 ODBC/client, you may want to try upgrading to something more current, or at least getting the latest patch(9208) to see if that helps. Since it works for me I'm guessing it may be a resolved bug in that version.
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • Access 2007 ADP to SQL Server 2012 with extended protection

    Hello,
    I have a Access 2007 ADP client connecting to an sql server 2012. This works fine with standard security configuration, but when I activate extended protection on the SQL server, the Access client cannot connect to the server. I am using integrated security
    with a domain user and get the error message
    "Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication."
    In sql server logfile I find:
    "SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x80090346, state 46 while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. Reason: The Channel Bindings from this client are missing or do not match the established Transport
    Layer Security (TLS) Channel".
    Is there any "easy" solution other than developing a new client based on an up to date Office version or Dot.Net?
    Regards,
      charles-f

    Well, I have no problem connecting to the sql server from my pc using ssms with my domain account. I have also sucessfully create a odbc connection using the "SQL Server Native Client 11.0" driver and my domain account. My account is in a trusted
    domain, so this seems not to be the problem.
    To me it rather looks like if Access is using an old driver which does not support the tls encryption required by the extended protection settings.
    regards, charles-f

  • Oracle ODBC driver with Access Application

    I get a problem when using MS-Access 2007 DAO recordset built on table hosted by an Oracle database 10g and connected thru ODBC
    The table scheme is :
    idPartenaire : number(11)
    libelle : varchar2(250)
    code : varchar2(5)
    actif : number(1)
    idCollege :numner(11)
    idPartenaire is generated by a sequence read in a trigger fired before insert on th table.
    The code I use in Access is :
    The query associated with the form is :
    "select * from table1"
    and the event procedure connected to a button on the form is :
    Private Sub Commande0_Click()
    Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
    Me.Recordset.AddNew
    Me.Recordset!libelle = CStr(Rnd) ' some value
    Me.Recordset!code = “”
    Me.Recordset!actif = -1
    Me.Recordset!idCollege = 1
    Me.Recordset.Update
    Me.Recordset.Bookmark = Me.Recordset.LastModified
    Dim idtemp As Long
    idtemp = Me.Recordset.idPartenaire
    Me.Requery
    Me.Recordset.FindFirst "idPartenaire = " & idtemp
    Set rs = Nothing
    End Sub
    When I run this code, I get an error 3167 (current record is deleted) on the line :
    idtemp = Me.Recordset.idPartenaire
    If I change the ligne :
    Me.Recordset!code = “”
    By :
    Me.Recordset!code = “xxxx”
    or if I comment this line, the error does not appear and I get the right value in idtemp variable.
    I tried also with the same table in a SQL Server database table. In this case it works fine in all cases.
    So, I seems that the problem is due to the Oracle ODBC driver. I tried with different versions of Oracle ODBC drivers (v10.0.2.4, v11.1.6)
    I search on Internet but I have not found any explanation or solution.
    Does anybody experiment the same problem (and find a solution)?

    The two lines you quote aren't errors, they're warnings and they're pretty standard fare. If there isn't anything else in the ODBC log, then the driver isn't returning any errors. I'm not sure why Access is failing, so let's look at the client configuration first.
    - I assume you've successfully installed the 8.1.6 client on the machine with Access. Were there any errors during the install?
    - You say you're using the 8.1.6 version of the Oracle ODBC driver-- can you look to see what the last digit of the version is? If possible, I'd start by downloading the most recent 8.1.6.x ODBC driver from OTN.
    - Check which version of the MDAC you have installed (new versions & a version checker are available from Microsoft at <http://www.microsoft.com/data>.
    - The ODBC driver you download above will list which versions of the MDAC it is expected to work with. Make sure your version is one of the listed versions.

  • Powerpivot Report 2010 - OLE DB or ODBC error: Query timeout expired; HYT00

    0
    I have report already developed by someone in powerpivot 2010 and deployed to sharepoint in powerpivot gallery library. The data source for this report is SQL Server 2008 r2. I have set the refresh options in sharepoint to run after business hours during
    week end. When I check the refresh history it shows this error message "OLE DB or ODBC error: Query timeout expired; HYT00. An error occurred while processing the 'xxx' table. The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the
    transaction failed..
    I have tried to run the "Also refresh as soon as possible " just to check but same error message is shown.
    This is the detailed error message details:
    03/02/2014 21:06:55 03/02/2014 22:08:15 01:01:20 Failed
    OLE DB or ODBC error: Query timeout expired; HYT00. An error occurred while processing the 'xxx' table. The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed
    Could anyone guide me on this issue? Truly appreciate your help in advance.

    Hi asritha,
    I would suggest you take a look at the following articles regarding how to configure PowerPivot data refresh in SharePoint Server:
    Configure and Use Stored Credentials for PowerPivot Data Refresh:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210671(v=sql.105).aspx
    Configure and Use the PowerPivot Unattended Data Refresh Account:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff773327(v=sql.105).aspx
    Note: Please ensure that the account have sufficient permission access to your data source.
    In addition, please elaborate your PowerPivot data soure with more detail. If you are using SSAS cube, please try to increase "ExternalConnectionTimeout" property default value to see if this helps. Here is the similar thread for your reference,
