Office 2007 Universal Binary?

Hey everyone, I am going to buy an iMac soon, and will have to purchase Office soon. Does anyone know if it is planned(if at all) to have an Office 2004 UB or just release it as UB in Office 2007. If anyone on the intel core duo iMac with 1GB of memory or less uses the non universal binary version of Office, can you give me a report on how well it runs with Rosetta? Thanks
Max

As far as we know, Office should be a UB on the next release.
It runs, albeit slowly on the stock 512MB that I had in my BlackBook. The added RAM really does make a big difference. If you are running any apps through Rosetta a realistic minimum is 1GB for the RAM. Anything less and you will be choking the system.

  • Microsoft Office / universal binary availability?

I bought the original iMac g5 (ppc), and have been debating when I should buy the MS Office 2004 package. Since the last announcement, (like most of us), I want to either get a new iMac..
There is also currently a rebate program on Office 2004 for mac, but it does not say if it is a universal binary package. I have not read anywhere where Roz Ho claims to have released the UB version, or if office will 'just work' on the new iMac G5s, which leads me to wonder if it only applies to the PPCs, and not the mactels.
So my question is, what's my best (cheapest) bet for getting MS Office if I am willing to get it as part of a new iMac (as long as it works), and willing to wait a year to make a purchase?
    1) Just go for the Office 2004 ppc version
    2) Buy the iMac (mactel) with rebate for Office 2004
    3) Wait for Office 2004 UB later on this year..
    4) Wait after the big April 1st annoucement (or later) when Office 2006 (vista codebase) is released for mac.
Another thing, do you know if the UB will require Tiger?

  • Web Location URLs for Office 2007 documents (pptx, xlsx, docx) not working

In our current Content Server solution implemented, each content has a Web Location URL and a Native File associated with it. The Web Location URL(for a content in Public security group) is of the following format:
    http://ucmurl/groups/public/intranetcontent/CONTENT_ID.doc
So far when a user clicks on this link, they are just presented with an 'Open' 'Save' dialog box, which clearly shows that UCM identifies this file format. So for a Word 2003 document called test.doc, the Open-Save dialog box says:
    Name: test.doc
    Type: Microsoft Word document..etc.
The behaviour is the same for all Office 2003 documents, pdfs and images. However, it seems like UCM does not identify Office 2007 documents. When I check-in a content - test.pptx, and click on the Web Location URL, it prompts me to Open/Save a 'ZIP' file, which is what UCM does for any unidentified file formats.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
The file formats under configuration manager have been updated to include the following formats with PASSTHRU conversion (since we dont need any conversion on these):
    pptx: application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.presentation
    docx: application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document
    xlsx: application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet
The desired functionality is that when the user clicks on web location url, UCM should identify these file formats, and NOT consider them as ZIP files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try these - if you're using IIS. If not, them something similar should fix.
Update IIS to include additional MIME types
Also, if you want to add all of the Microsoft Office 2007 mime-types to IIS in one step you can do this:
    1. Stop IIS
    2. Edit the metabase XML file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\MetaBase.xml) using a text editor.
    3. Search for the <IIsMimeMap Location="/LM/MimeMap" …> element and append the lines below to the MimeMap attribute
    .docm,application/vnd.ms-word.document.macroEnabled.12
    .docx,application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document
    .dotm,application/vnd.ms-word.template.macroEnabled.12

  • Do you know if it's possible to generate Word 2003 files from RoboHelp if we're using Office 2007 and RoboHelp 2007?

Do you know if it's possible to generate Word 2003 files from
RoboHelp if we're using Office 2007 and RoboHelp 2007? We are
thinking of upgrading, but have customers that would still require
Word 2003 formats because they won't have 2007 installed.
    Thanks!

    Hi NewtoRobohelp
Unfortunately I don't have Office 2007 in front of me to test
with. But I'm thinking that as long as Office 2007 still produces
the same formats as 2003, you could do it this way.
From RoboHelp 7 and using Office 2007, generate Printed
ouptut. Open said printed output in Office 2007 and perform a Save
As. Save the document as a RTF (Rich Text Format) document.
RTF is more universal. So I'm thinking this may be a possible
way around it. There is also the possibility that Word 2007 offers
up an ability when saving a file to save in an older format.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Will Snow Leopard run older PPC software, pre-universal binary stuff?

    Hi there
I know this is probably the most stupid question in the world, and I know that Snow Leopard dropped support for PPC and is intel only.
Does this mean that I could no longer run my CS2, MS Office 2004 and Quark 6.5 (as none of these were universal binary apps, and are all written for PPC architecture)? Or is it just SL will only install on Intel macs?
    Thanks in advance

PPC is supported, but there are some PPC applications that are too old for Snow Leopard. You should check all that you use for the latest info BEFORE updating. I think there are problems with CS2. It is not officially supported in Leopard, but may work there. CS3 is not officially supported, but does work.
Is there a 'best' way to upgrade? clean install and retrieve data from time machine backup? Complete rebuild? Install over the top of Leopard?
Any method should work if your applications are up to date, and your existing system has no problems. If your current system is old, though, it may have some forgotten applications or modifications that could cause upgrade problems.
The safest way (but more work) is to erase the drive, install Snow Leopard, update to 10.6.2, copy just user accounts and data from your Time Machine backup, and install the latest versions of applications.
If possible, make a bootable backup of your system drive before you start. That will protect you against any possible problems with the Time Machine backup.

  • Lion Upgrade and Universal Binary Plugins

    Hey All,
So I read the apple press release about the Lion upgrade and if memory serves correctly I read that, with Lion, Apple will be discontinuing support for Universal Binary applications.
I'm currently running Logic Express 9.1.4 on Snow Leopard and I have a few Universal Binary AU plugins.
If I do upgrade to Lion, will my Universal Binary AU plugins also cease to work when I run Logic on Lion?
Additionally, will an upgrade to lion require me to run another series of upgrades in order for my system, and all my other apps, to run smoothly?
Not really complaining about this, just weighing the options before I decide whether to upgrade or not

I read about the Universal Binary support as well - don't remember where, did some googling. I'm not a big Apple/computer tekkie, but I have a feeling that going to Lion will be like the OS9 to OSX transition, but as if Classic Environment never existed.
I'd make the Lion decision based on your current hardware and software - is it working now? Or are you looking at some future release that only Lion will support? I bought Macromedia Studio (Academic) 2004 for about $200 or less back then, it's $529 now on Amazon, no cheaper/Academic version available that I can find (well, it's Adobe now.) Final Draft is screenwriting - basic word processing - no need to shell out close to $200 for a new version or a $99 upgrade that does the same thing on Lion (though after fighting with the company about their dropping support for my version, I was offered a cheaper upgrade - still, no need.) Also, MS Office works fine on the mini - again, basic word processing (I only and rarely use Word) seems crazy to upgrade, based on trying a new OS.
My G4 tower (I believe currently running 10.4.x) worked for my needs for what, 8 years? Still does all I need, I'll hold onto it, but chokes up a bit on Garageband, Final Cut 4 drags (but I never use it.)**  I upgraded to Mac mini for the Intel processor (for Netflix streaming and any new Intel apps I may desire) and I can see this one with 10.6.8 lasting me for years, since it's running all my old apps and any that are available right now.
Good luck, whatever you choose, but I still say don't do it unless it's a dual boot situation.
**These are hardware issues, OS was never an issue except, of course, for the very first OSX.

  • Universal binary CF for the Mac

I have spent the last few days attempting to install CF 7.2
on an Intel Mac with the 'work around unsupported hacks' suggested
on a few sites. I have not been able to get it to work. I have been
seeing articles about CS3 being universal binary and available
sometime first part of 2007. However, that doesn't seem to include
CF. Anyone hear any rumors on when CF might be updated for Intel
Macs? I have been attempting to use Flex Builder 2 beta with the
Adobe Training from the Source for Flex Builder that just came out,
but find it all but unusable without being able to install CF. I
know I could use BootCamp and install a Windows partition and run
Flex and CF over there, but I do not want to buy a Win license
especially since there has been no definitive answer as to whether
I can transfer that license to Mac at a later point in time.
Without an Intel version of CF, it makes me wonder why they are
bothering with a Mac version of Flex Builder 2.

    This should help..

  • Universal Binary Shockwave for Mac? Is Director on its way out?

Anyone have any thoughts about if and when there will be a
universal binary version of shockwave for the Mac?
Also, Director seems to receive very little attention from
Adobe. Anyone know anything or care to speculate about Adobe's
commitment to maintaining Director. I'm guessing that adobe will
eventually ad 3D capabilities to Flash and do away with Director.
My company use to do a lot with Director, now we have a scant few
clients who bring us work that requires it.
As the Art Director for my company I have had a somewhat
passive role with Director, creating art and presentations that
only require basic navigation and animation and handing off to a
true programmer when more complex functionality is needed. Our
programmer has left and it seems on some level I am now assuming
the role of main director person, at least unofficially. I also
have a beginner to intermediate level of proficiency with Flash.
I'm pretty much left to teach myself what ever programming our
clients need as it is needed. My plate is full and I'm trying to
determine if I need to invest time in really learning lingo beyond
my rudimentary working knowledge, or just concentrate on expanding
my Flash knowledge base. If Flash did 3D, I would probably forget
about Director because it seems like it is on it's way out and most
of the things our clients need I think can be done in Flash
although for standalone presentations, I prefer the seamless flow
of Director to the "wait to load" result of Flash.
    Any thoughts on this?

    As Adobe says itself:
A new version of Director will be released in the first half
    of 2007. It
will be sold under the name Adobe Director. No features list
    available yet.
That's the only information we have and you'll have to live
    with it until
the release (or beta program just before).
Adobe doesn't have anything else in its product range that
    comes close to
Director and Shockwave. Shockwave 3D is still to this day the
    most reliable
Web 3D plugin available (even if it has not the best
    rendering quality but
sufficient for games, e-learning and 3D product assembly
    instructions).
Adding 3D to Flash Player would mean a heavier download
    (Flash Player 9 is
already 1 MB without the Yahoo toolbar).
The other news it that Tom Higgins, the Director Technical
    Product Manager
left. I believe his position has already been filled
    internally by someone
else at Adobe (it's a huge company) or will be soon (haven't
    seen any job
    offer yet for this role).
    Best regards,
    Karl Sigiscar.

  • HT4759 How to Completely Uninstall iCloud? Office 2007 Save As Crashes

I can no longer use "Save As" in Office 2007 since I enabled ICloud.  Word and Excel Crash. And Outlook does not seem to be about to send more than one email at a time.  I have to select the Send/Receive button right after I create a new email.  If I wait and create a second email, the first email in the outbox changes status from ready to send to cannot send.  And even if I open it and try to send it, it will not send.  I have to re-create it.
I want to know how to thoroughly uninstall ICloud.  Other posters on Microsoft (Girish M) and Apple (SkinnyNick) have indicated that the problem is related to ICloud.  And I can confirm that I started having problems right after enabling ICloud.  Here are the references:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-excel/excel-2007-clo sing-unexpectedly-when-trying-to/69705682-06ca-4e39-b17e-56d4bacc3452
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4607859?start=0&tstart=0
I spent a lot of time trying to trouble shoot this problem.  I ran the Office install to repair.  This did not work.  I uninstalled all Office 2007 related products.  I then manually purged all directories relating to office including the Common Shared Directories.  Then, I ran Microsoft's FixIt to uninstall Office to make sure everything was uninstalled.  Then, I reinstalled Office 2007 and it still failed.  I thought about installing Office 2010, but the second post (above SkinnyNick) indicates that this would not work.
So, I am looking for a way to uninstall iCloud including that parts that is causing this problem.  Now, the second post (above) from
SkinnyNick) says that he tried to uninstall iCloud but this did not fix the problem.  He finally reconfigured iCloud by de-selecting Outlook, but I would rather completely remove iCloud.
Can anyone provide instructions on how to completely remove iCloud so that my Office 2007 products will function again using Save As?
    Thanks,
    Rob

As a Windows Application Developer who has more than 28 years of professional development experience, I can tell you that anything is possible in terms of how developers implement their applications. I have seen just about everything under the sun, and it would not surprise me if Apple's iCloud not only places files in key Windows directories, but it may use configuration information in a file as opposed to the Window Registry to control how their application behaves. And this would prevent “System Restore" from fixing the problem. Configuration information can be stored in many places. And, even if you do use the Windows Registry to control how your application works, you can key off of new files (like a user profile file) to control how your application to behaves. Csound1, you have been very generous with your time, and I am very grateful for your advice. Thank you.

I can not synchronize my Palm Treo 680 Unlocked with Windows XP Home and MS Office 2007.

If so what is the solution?

I also cannot synch my Palm Treo 680 unlocked with Outlook 07 using Vista.  It says "Hot Synch Operation Completed Successfully", but nothing did synch.  I downloaded palmoutlook07conduits.zip and there was no change.  I was synching wirelessly using Microsoft Exchange Active Synch without problems, but when I cancelled my 'data' package on my cell phone, it no longer was synching.  I tried reloading my original Palm CD, but it doesn't allow me to select 'Outlook' as my connectivity.  Please help.  And please don't provide me with a bunch of acronyms as I won't understand them!!!!

  • OneDrive for Business sync client with Office 2007

We have 700 people organisation using Sharepoint 2013. One of the key features for us is the OneDrive for business that allows us to sync document libraries. BUT there seems to be a big problem with Office 2007 clients, after installing the separate client
opening and creating documents get's broken. Same thing is described here:

Office customization tool cannot be used with standalone client and there is no way to disable Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation support. Technet states that Office 2007 is supported but it surely doesn't feel like it. SP2 fixes this for Office 2010, but that
doesn't help with Office 2007. Is there any solution for this?
    Regards,
    Sampsa

    Hi,
It’s a known issue with Office 2007 or 2010 (without the latest Service Pack) along with SharePoint 2013.
To resolve the issue, you can install Service Pack 2 for Office
2010 and Service Pack 3 for Office 2007.
Or disable the IE Add On - "SharePoint OpenDocuments Class" .

The Report Generation Toolkit does probably not support Office 2007 yet. This is because the Office ActiveX interface used to change with each version and the Report Generation Toolkit comes with specific libraries for each of the Office versions it supports. With the wrong office version the Report Generation Toolkit VIs are normally broken and can't run without some more or less involved modifications.

  • Problems with MS Office 2007 and Tiger Server

I have an Xserve hosting file services for Macs and PCs. There is a RAID attached to the Xserve storing user data and ACLs are enabled. Since installing Office 2007 on the PCs there's been the following problem which can be replicated -
When saving an Excel or Word document back in the 2007 suite to the Xserve, the user will be unable to save the document if it is saved back for the third time. In Excel 'Unable to save document is reported'. In Word the document can't be saved due to a network error or a file permision problem being reported.
The above is true for existing documents created in Excel or Word 2003, then saved in 2007 versions, which are on the Server, or for documents created using Excel or Word 2007.
Users are logging on with different user accounts. They first log on to a Windows domain hosted by a Small Business Server then a drive has been mapped on their PC, to give thme access to the Xserve.
As I said things were OK until Office 2007 was installed on the PCs.

I'm having the same issue, allowing guest access on the share did change the logs I'm getting in Samba. Earlier on it was giving errors on the inability of guest access to the share.

  • Does the Report Generation Toolkit support Office 2007?

With the hot-out-of-the-oven Office 2007, Microsoft has done a complete overhaul of the Office environment that we all have spent many years learning to perfection (well.. almost). Lucky those who got a head start as part of the Office Beta program.
Well, NI claims that the current version of the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit supports "Microsoft Office 2000 (Word, Excel, and Graph) or later" and therefore literally also the new Office 2007.
I doubt that the ActiveX API has remained unchanged when developing Office 2007, so let's use this thread to uncover the experience you have with calling Office 2007 applications using the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit.
    Anyone???

We are currently working on a maintenance release for the Report Generation Toolkit to support Office 2007.  You can install the current toolkit with Office 2007, but you will have some problems.  If you copy the four LLBs from the Compatibility\Office 2003\vi.lib\addons\_office folder on your Report Generation Toolkit CD to the corresponding vi.lib\addons\_office location in your LabVIEW folder after installing the toolkit, things will work for the most part.  But you won't have 100% compatibility until the maintenance release is done.
