Office 2010 and Lync 2013 installed caused Powerpoint to become corrupted from internet sources

I'm finding that we're having problems with Office 2010 and Lync 2013.
Our environment is setup as follows:
Operating system: Windows 7 Enterprise
Office: Office 2010 (Word, Excel , Powerpoint, Access etc)
Office 2013 (Only Lync has been installed for 2013)
Problem: The issue is that when any Powerpoint documents come from internet sources (Such as Outlook or downloading directly from an internet browser), attachment manager deems the Powerpoint a security risk. When you open the Powerpoint it states that it's
corrupt and needs to be repaired, when you try repairing the powerpoint, it says it's not going to be possible.
The only workaround is right clicking the power point in explorer and clicking properties, there's then a security prompt at the bottom of the dialog box and an option to "Unblock".
The temporary fix: The fix is to remove Lync 2013 and the power point presentation open correctly from Internet sources.
Attempted:
I've attempted the following:
- Build a laptop with a plain version of Windows 7 enterprise
- Install Office 2010 Professional
- Test powerpoints from internet sources (Working)
- Install Lync 2013
- Test powerpoints from internet sources (Same error)
Any ideas?

Just to let you know that switching off protected view in Powerpoint for files originating from internet sources and Outlook attachments is a workaround for the issue.
I would be cautious about switching off Protected view though, here's a good article explaining the inner workings of Protected view:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/office2010/archive/2009/08/13/protected-view-in-office-2010.aspx
Concerning this problem, I also noticed that after removing Office 2013 and starting Powerpoint, a MSIEXEC instance is started.
Presumably some DLLs are missing or some registry keys are missing when installed with Lync/Office 2013.
I also went to the trouble of snap shotting the registry and using Procmon to see what gets loaded and added when Powerpoint repairs itself on first start after removing Office 2013.
Unfortunately there are a number of things which change and couldn't be changed on the Office 2010 and Lync 2013 setup to fix the problem.
My advice would be the following:
- Update to Office 2013 fully
- Downgrade to Office 2010 Lync
- Switch off protected view

  • Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 blinking icon in taskbar not working properly

         Hi,
We're experiencing a strange behaviour. Lync IM notifications are supposed to work this way below:
         1) Notification bubble on the right-bottom corner
         2) After a few seconds, a blinking icon in the task bar
         3) After a few seconds, a coloured icon remains in the task bar
Some of our users, both Lync 2010 and Lync 2013, go 1) and 2) but then icon won't remain in the task bar, so they don't realize they have a conversation waiting (Windows XP and Windows 7).
If they open the icon, the conversation is there and coloured, and they can answer.
In my computer, it has also happened but most of the time it works fine (testing it, maybe it works 15 times and fails 1). Nevertheless, a lot of people is suffering from this strange behaviour.
We have looked into the causes but haven't found anything.
         Any clue?
         Thanks!

How long have you seen the problem?
What version of your Lync client? Try to update your Lync client to the latest version.
    Try to repair office 2013.
    Uninstall and reinstall Lync 2010.
Please install Lync 2013 or Lync 2010 on a fresh installation of Window to check if you can still see this problem.

  • Unknown Presence in Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 co-existence

I have lync 2010 and lync 2013 in my environment. Everything was working fine except when I moved the DNS of the Lync 2013 pool to the load balancer. When I did that, users on lync2013 could see the presence of users on Lync2010 pool but not vice versa.
I have point the Lyncdiscoverinternal.domain.com to the lync2013 pool DNS. I have opened migration ports on the load balancer but still not working. It works perfectly fine if I point the DNS of the pool to one server directly without going
    through the Load balancer VIP.
    Am I missing anything here?
    Thanks!
    Alert from TechNet Posting

    Hi Kojo Obeng Antwi,
Please check out the following information.
Deploying DNS load balancing on Front End pools requires you to perform a couple of extra steps with FQDNs and DNS
    records.
A pool that uses DNS load balancing must have two FQDNs: the regular pool FQDN that is used by DNS load balancing (such as pool01.contoso.com), and resolves to the physical
IPs of the servers in the pool, and another FQDN for the pool’s Web services (such as web01.contoso.com), which resolves to virtual IP address of the pool.
In Topology Builder, if you want to deploy DNS load balancing for a pool, to create this extra FQDN for the pool’s Web services
you must select the Override internal Web Services pool FQDN check box and type the FQDN, in the Specify the Web Services URLs for this Pool page.
To support the FQDN used by DNS load balancing, you must provision DNS to resolve the pool FQDN (such as pool01.contoso.com) to the IP addresses of all the servers in the pool
(for example, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2, and so on). You should include only the IP addresses of servers that are currently deployed.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Co-Existence Lync 2010 and Lync 2013

    Hi,
How do we check that CMS is moved from lync 2010 to Lync 2013 in Co-Existance environment lync standard edition.
I know that users are moved form Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 but i don't if CMS is moved? And in the existing co-existence we have two edge servers Lync 2010 and Lync 2013. How can i check if traffic is  routing through Lync 2010 or lync 2013.
Because we want to Decommission the Lync 2010 STD Edition before doing this i want to make sure every thing go smooth.
    Please help me on this.
    Thanks

To find out if the CMS is moved:
Get-CsConfigurationStoreLocation, if it's a standard server it will tell you the pool name.  If it's an Enterprise server, it will tell you the SQL server name associated with the pool.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg412814.aspx
Otherwise it's at the top of the topology builder (the top top part that says Lync Server in the left pane, under the Central Management Server spot in the right pane.
For a full decommission article, here's a decent one with screenshots.  As Ben said, if you can advise about the other places we could be more specific.

  • Manual Removal of Office 2010 during Unattended 2013 install

As I'm sure it has been discussed many times before, the Office 2013 OCT deployment does a horrible job removing all Office 2010 components properly.  Even with the option to "remove previous versions of Office before installing" selected,
there will still be pieces of Office 2010 lingering behind.  It has been reported to me by our support department that this can randomly cause issues with Office 2013.
In these cases, our support group must manually remove the Office 2010 remnants and run a manual repair of Office 2013. Not ideal on 1000 systems.
To bypass all of this mess, I've attempted to add a command line via the Office Config Tool to remove Office 2010 as well as Lync 2010.  I have configured OCT to Run a batch file
before installing Office2013 via the "Add installations and run programs" area.  The batch file has 2 lines.
    \\<server>\<share>\Office2010\Install\setup.exe /uninstall ProPlus /config \\<server>\<share>\silentuninstall.xml
    \\<server>\<share>\Lync2010\LyncSetup.exe /silent /uninstall
Nothing too fancy here.  Note that this batch file works as intended if I manually run it from command line on a workstation. So, I know that all of these commands are good.  Also note, the sms installer account has access to the server and
    shares specified in my commands.
This seems like it should be such an easy thing for OCT to pull off, but it just blows right by my batch file as if it doesn't exist. Am I missing something here?  What can I do in OCT to ensure that it doesn't ignore this command?
    Thanks,
    David

I've seen this sort of query quite a few times over the past few months. The Office 2013 OCT tool does a fairly poor job removing previous Office versions.
Your uninstall argument is probably failing because your referencing an xml file that resides on a server file share. Config Manager will execute your argument using the system account so its probably a permissions based issue. You can test this by running
your uninstall argument using psexec which replicates this behavior.
I've approached this issue in a different way - you may wish to look at this option instead?
Microsoft have written some Office scrub vb script files to address the issue:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2011/04/08/how-to-obtain-and-use-offscrub-to-automate-the-uninstallation-of-office-products.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2011/04/06/how-to-perform-an-uninstall-upgrade-to-office-2010.aspx
    http://marckean.wordpress.com/2013/06/18/fully-automate-removal-of-any-version-office-in-preparation-for-office-365/
You could  use a batch file wrapper as your Office 2013 Configuration Manager install command – something like this would work:
    @echo off
    SET INSTALL=%~dp0
    :Remove Microsoft Office 2010 Suites
    Cscript “%INSTALL%\OffScrub10.vbs” ALL /Quiet /NoCancel
    :Install Microsoft Office 2013 Professional
    Setup.exe
    ping 127.0.0.1 -n 5 > nul
Has worked well for me. Note that you would need to add an additional line to remove Lync 2010 - probably something like msiexec /x {YourLync2010GUID} /q would be best.
    Cheers
    Damon

  • Is Office Home and Business 2013 fully compatible with Sharepoint Online (Office 365)?

My client recently upgraded 3 Windows 7 PCs (2-32 & 1-64-bit OS) from Office 2007 32-bit (which was actually working fine against Exchange/SharePoint Online) to Office Home and Business 2013 (32-bit)
Now, for all 3 PCs, while Office 2013 Word/Excel can open, check out/in, and save SharePoint Online files, there is ALWAYS a 2 minute delay in closing the file which is apparently waiting for the Local Security Authority call to return. This seems
to indicate an issue related to SharePoint security on the client side.
      Problem Event Name: AppHangXProcB1
      Application Name:
    WINWORD.EXE
      Application Version:
    15.0.4657.1000
      Waiting on Application Name:
    lsass.exe:lsasspirpc
This is the Local Security Authority Security Support Provider Interface Remote Procedure Call (LSA SSPI RPC)
My client has 66 licenses for SharePoint Online (Plan 2) and 73 Exchange Online (Plan 1) "stand alone" services. The same failure is happening on 3 Win 7 PCs. All of which I've carefully reviewed against the MS Office trouble shooting guides (start
    Windows OS w/out non-MS services, Word/Excel safe mode w/out add-ons, O365 readiness checks, Office repair, etc.). We have PCs running Win 7 (32 & 64-bit) w/Office 365 ProPlus & Office Professional Plus 2013 that work fine. it's JUST these 3 Win 7
PCs that were upgraded from Office 2007 to Office Home and Business 2013 that have the 2 min. SharePoint file close time.
Can you please confirm that Office Home and Business 2013 is compatible w/SharePoint Online
at least for Excel and Word?
The "slow close" problem can be demonstrated on multiple site collections/sub sites and w/Excel & Word docs in doc libs and lists
After many hours capturing information, following the MS Office trouble shooting guides, and repairing the Office install, I've had no luck in resolving this. While Word/Excel will eventually close SharePoint Online files after about
2 minutes, this is certainly unacceptable. Otherwise, locally stored files close normally and new files were created by the Office 2013 Excel/Word for this testing.
Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi raygabe,
I couldn't find the document mentioned there is any compatibility between Office365 SharePoint online and Office Home and Business 2013 version, I would recommend that you check if the issue could be reproduced on other Win7 machines installed with Office
Home and Business 2013 installed directly instead of upgrading from Office2007, see if issue is related to Office application upgrade.
I also recommend that you post this issue on our dedicated Office365 SharePoint online forum and Office 2013 forum for a better assistance with more experts regarding this issue from the following links.

I'm still suffering the same issue. I am also running Word 2010 SP2.
My brother installed on his system which is Windows 7, Office 2010 and it works fine.
I have now gone back to Actobat X and it's working.
The issue doesn't occur in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.

I had a similiar problem, with my multiple devices.  I open iTunes and when all devices were connected I went to the info section on each device.  Under info I checked the sync calandars. Under that I click all calanders. I then did the apply in low right. I then did the sync function and it fixed it for me.  You have to do this for each device.
I also checked the device (ipad,Iphone) themselves and change the calander selection to NO Catagory.  Hope this helps.

  • Moving the CMS from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013

Now that all our users have been migrated to Lync 2013, I need to move the CMS from 2010 to 2013. Using the following MS article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688013.aspx
Nothing is mentioned about the mirrored database. What about that? I found the article below on creating a mirrored database
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204986.aspx
But at what point do you do this? Should this be done at the same time you run the install-csdatabase to move the CMS or do you wait until everything is complete including the removal of the old 2010 database and then create the mirrored database?

    Hi,
Agree with Georg, you can even add a SQL mirror to an existing Lync server 2013 Back End.
You can refer to the link below:

  • Office Home and Student 2013 error message with yellow triangle

I have been using my word and excel they were working fine. Now there is a yellow triangle  top right corner by my initials. I finally got it to show me only for a moment what it means. Error Message: did not realize I should have copied it down but
after error message it said to sign-out and sign back in. I have never had to sign in before the Office was installed in Dec 2013 by Best Buy. All they returned was the card they had used to download. When I tried to click on sign in it does nothing. The error
seems to have the word program very mixed up as it will preform some task but seems to lock me out of other normal things I usually do like spacing or changing font size just to name a few. I already checked for all updates on my computer per your sites suggestions.
How do I make the error message /yellow triangle go away and allow me to use the office home and student 2013 like it was working before. Please help I live alone, and near 60, live in the boondocks, and do not have any computer people within a 4 hour drive

    Hi,
As per the description, it looks like an issue with your microsoft account. Does the error message look like below?

You mentioned that "a yellow triangle  top right corner by my initials", you probably have already signed in with an acocunt. If you remember this account, I'd suggest you click
File>Account on the tab, click Sign out under
User Information, and then sign-in again. If you don't have this account, you probably need to contact the retailer for it.
If issue persists, please post back with the details of your system environment, then we will take a further look.

  • Issues with Office 2010 and Acrobat Pro 8

    Good Day All;
We are in the middle of upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 with Office 2010 and I was wondering if there are any issues with importing Office documents into Acrobat Pro 8. I have found out that there are a couple of issue with Office 201 and LifeCycle Designer.

Acrobat 8 is not compatible with Microsoft Office 2010 and the PDFMaker plugins will not install. Only Acrobat X is compatible with Office 2010, and at this time only in 32-bit mode.
Acrobat 8 is also not officially compatible with Windows 7, again Acrobat X is the first version to carry approval for that OS. It will still install, but Adobe cannot guarantee it will operate perfectly in all cases, and doesn't provide install support for that combination.
