Office 2013 "Help" -- What Executables Does it Call?

The help function in Office 2013 applications running under 64-bit Windows 7 Professional SP1 is blocked by my Software Restriction Policy (e.g.,.http://www.mechbgon.com/srp/). Neither clicking "?" in the upper right of the application window
nor pressing F1 appears to do anything at all (not even generate a group-policy message) when SRP is turned on. It does not help to limit the restrictions to executables (ignoring DLLs and other libraries). I think this means that Help calls some
executable that resides outside the usual C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) directory trees.
I would really like to run an SRP but need to create a specific Path (or other) exception in order to do so. No answer to this from answers.microsoft.com. Does anybody here know what program(s) "help" is running behind the scenes that
reside in unusual locations or how to find out? -- JCW2

Office 2013 click-to-run does not honor deselecting 'Make Outlook the default program' checkbox

We use an email client other than Microsoft Outlook (let's say Thunderbird)
Thunderbird is set as the default mail client for the machine (HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail\(default) set appropriately)
Occasionally, we launch Outlook (but absolutely do not want it as the default mail client for the machine). About 30 seconds after launching Outlook, we see that the Windows default mail client changes to Microsoft Outlook.The 'Make Outlook the default
program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar' checkbox in File->Options is disabled.
Further investigation with ProcMon indicates that a SYSTEM service called integrator.exe starts up about 30 seconds after we launch Outlook. This service changes the HKLM\Software\Clients\Mail\(default) registry key to be Microsoft Outlook.
We have tested with multiple non-Outlook email clients, and the behavior is always the same.
This only happens on click-to-run installs of Office 2013. Regular installs of Office 2013 do not have the problem. Older versions of Outlook do not have the problem.
What can we do to get Outlook to honor the 'Make Outlook the default program' setting?

Thanks for your reply. Your blog post would certainly work if this was just a user-mode app that was making the change, but that's not the case with Office 2013.
The integrator.exe process that is making the change is part of Microsoft's Click-to-Run system. It runs as a service with local system access, and thus would have full access to the key. I might be able to lock it down by creating a second system
admin account and playing games with it - but that will make it very difficult to actually change the value when I want it do be changed, and I really shouldn't have to be doing workarounds to prevent Office itself from doing this.

SPRO - What Transactions Does it Call? - Role Building

I am currently wanting to build a Role which has display only capabilities for SPRO and its sub/callable transactions, is there a way of getting a list of all transaction/programs that are called from SPRO?
This is so that i can construct a Display only Role with all these transactions and SPRO consolidated into the same Role.

Goto SU21, here you can search for the authorizations based on transaction code. Here select 'Tcode assignment'. Type SPRO and then F8. Then select SPRO and select field values. This would give a list of all Authorizatoion objects. I guess S_PROJECT is the one that will help you out.
So you just have to check what are the roles that have this authorization objects and assign them to the users with appropriate authorizations.

Reboot before sysprep when I want to add an installation task with Office 2013

I want to buid a reference computer with a genuine Win7 wim file, correct drivers, uptodate patches, and usefull applications. So I use a “Build and Capture Task Sequence”. The new reference image captured, I can use it with WDS or a media
to any computers, using a second and different “Build and Capture Task Sequence.”
All things were right, I could add Acrobat Reader, Java and some others application, but it failed when I tried to add “Add Application Task” with Office 2013. I could import the software, I discovered the new panel to configure config.xml
and mychoice.msp, but when I run the Tasq sequence, when it begin to sysprep the OS, a few time before the capture, the computer reboots. Sysprep does not run, and the image is not captured.
I can add any software installation in the Tasq sequence but not one with Office 2013.
What do you think about this issue?

Some pieces of advice, since I have managed to create a Windows 7 WIM file with Office 2013 embedded without any problems:
Build your reference image in a virtual machine, not on physical hardware, to prevent a gigantic driverstore with drivers for one or more models, and having to rebuild your image every single time you use a new model. This is not how MDT works, MDT works
hardware agnostic, since it inject's drivers of hardware for each model before the WIM file is applied to your target computer.
Do you really want to embed applications like Adobe Reader and Java in the image? They have a release every month. Do you want to (or is there room for) updating your image every single month? Put them in the deployment phase of your task sequence. This
way these applications are left out the WIM file, but are installed after the WIM file is applied to your system. Yes this takes a little bit more time when deploying a machine, but that's time you'll save on not managing your WIM file every single month
Check your
log files, make sure your machine is not Domain Joined, since that is the biggest mistake people make when sysprepping a machine. And check
Setuperr.log for any sysprep errors. Guaranteed it has noting to do with Office 2013

No, H&B edition doesn't do this very well at all, primarily because it isn't designed to do so. Nor do any of the other "Retail" channel Office products, because such features are designed into the Volume Licensing channel products.
For quantities of more than 20, VL channel products do a much better job.
Or, Office365 (business plans/products) also do this much more easily.
You *may* be able to use the VAMT toolset to manage Retail pkeys (I'm not sure, it may not suit if you are using Click2Run installations).

Office 2013 Rollout - Collect missing updates

I have dialed in my custom installer for Office 2013. What's the easiest way to gather all missing Office 2013 updates post-SP1 so I can drop them in the update folder?

I'm still making a final decision on whether or not to include all the patches at install time. If I wait for the Software Updates to come through then the user's first experience will not include everything. I'm concerned they may discover issues that are
directly related to the patch content, giving the user a false sense that IT doesn't know what they're doing =)
On a Windows 7 VM (1 CPU / 2 GB Memory) a complete uninstall of Office 2010 and install of Office 2013 32-Bit w/ SP1 took ~11 minutes to complete. This includes all the follow-up patches through May 2014. Of course my install package grew from ~850 MB to
~2 GB. Another issue I'm going to have to face....

I am looking forward to deploy Office 2013 PP, Project and Visio though Citrix XenApp 7.5. The servers are windows 2012 R2.
I am looking forwards to understand the latest licnesing model for Citrix/Remote desktop/Terminal server for Office 2013 PP.
How does volume licnesing work for Citrix/Terminal servers.
There are two requirements .
1. User accessing from office : In office users will have Windows 7 desktops , with office 2013 PP installed on it. Licensed with KMS. Some office users will be accessing OFFICE 2013 PP Apps published through Citrix xenapp 7.5. say for example
the number of such users is 100. As user is already licensed (office on windows 7), do we need a seperate license if these 100 users access the xenapp published version of office? Office 2013 pp will be published on 4 xenapp servers.
2. Users accessing from Home: When those 100 users are at home, user will login to vpn, open the browser and access office pp apps throught citrix. The office will run on the 4 xenapp servers in datacenter. In this case the
client machine is user's own home desktop. Does a user licenses for office makes us complaint with licensing in this case.
Please could you clarify my licensing doubts for above 2 scenarios.

I look after multiple locations across Ontario for a company each their own separate entity so volume licencing is not applicable.
The situation is that I have installed 17 copies of office 2013 and registered the product keys with my Microsoft account, and when I log into the Microsoft account the product keys I find on the site don't correspond to any of the physical
product key card serial numbers I have. talked to Microsoft support twice with no solution. was told by 1 person I should have a Microsoft account for each install. I will be doing 100 installs eventually. the second person told
me I didn't matter what download I selected from my Microsoft account as it would automatically prompt me for a product key. it didn't. spent 4 hours on phone so far and received 1 email, all with canned answers which don't even correspond to the

I have 17 keys registered to the 1 account. I did a test this morning. I installed a brand new copy of office 2013 right out of the box to a computer and registered it to a new Microsoft account with only 1 copy of office registered to that account.
I log into the new Microsoft account this morning and the product key online associated with the account isn't the same as the product key I inputted yesterday from the key card.
Anyone have any ideas about this

Installed second brand new copy from the same Microsoft account to a different computer and it said it was already registered. had to manual registration. requested a call back from Microsoft support and got the call and explained the situation
and the person couldn't help me but thought installation and licencing could and was transferred. explained 90% of the situation before I was disconnected. In case you are wondering I am being polite on the phone as I realize the people I
am talking to are not the cause of the issue
I need a call from someone higher up in support for office 2013 and cant seem to do this. if I call customer support it is really only a facilitator which pushes me off to a support desk or something called up-and-running and none of them
even acknowledge the issue of the product key mismatches

For problems with MS Office for Mac and other 3rd party apps, its best to go to the forums run by the people who make them, it really doesn't have anything to do with Apple. For MS this is :

MS Word for Mac OS X has never supported any RTL or Indic script, even after 14 years. Other apps that work ok for most users are Mellel, Pages 5, TextEdit, Nisus Writer, and LibreOffice.
If your problem is focussed on editing a complex RTL doc created by Windows Word, then the best fix may be to run Windows on your Mac and work within Office for Windows.

I have a KMS host running Office 2010 activations for our client computers which is running fine. I installed the Office 2013 license pack on the same host. However, in the configuration wizard it doesn't allow me to activate the product key. Is there
a way around this?

Office 2013 C2R Update Scheduled Task does not work

Hi all.
I am having difficulty getting network deployed updates to work correctly. I installed and older version of Office 2013 with the ODT from a network share and set the update path. I then downloaded an update via ODT.
The issue is the scheduled task does not update office. If I trigger or manually run from a command prompt "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX64\integratedoffice.exe RUNMODE RERUNMODE modetorun updatedetection modeargs reschedulemode tasktrigger
scheduledtask updateuitype background” from Task Scheduler nothing seems to happen. Monitoring Task Manager it looks like integratedoffice is called albeit very briefly.
But, if I run "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX64\integratedoffice.exe RUNMODE RERUNMODE modetorun updatedetection background” from a command prompt Office updates, but if I edit the Scheduled Task to above Office does not update if the
task is triggered.
As Office can update if the right command is given it would appear that my config.xml etc is correct. Any ideas on why the Scheduled Task does not work?

What permissions are set on the location of the updates ? C2R currently needs permissions granted for machine accounts as it runs under that context. This will change at some point that C2R gets updated.
