Office Web App Prompting For Credentials Externally Only

We deployed an office web app server and it works great internally, but whenever we try to access documents externally, we are prompted for credentials.  Even if we put our credentials in, we always get a 401 forbidden error.  Also note that
we can access the hosting/discovery page fine internally, but not externally.  Any help is appreciated.

  • Office web app error for one note only

There is strange error in my SharePoint 2013 farm with OWA. Everything works fine except for one note.
If you click in the notebook on the left hand side of the site, for first time everything works fine. When you try to click the same link second time, either server error comes up in chrome and nothing in IE. If i deactivate the web feature one note and
reactivate it, it works again for first time and nothing comes up for the second time. Error i see is
WOPIFrame -Unhandled exception: System.TimeoutException: The open operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. ---> System.TimeoutException: The read
from the pipe did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.
    Has anyone seen this behavior?

  • Office Web Apps server for Lync DNS question

We are going to deploy an Office Web Apps server for our Lync 2013 clients, available internally and externally. We do not have a split-horizon DNS so it is not possible for wac.foo.com to have a different IP for internal vs. external clients. What is the
best setup for our scenario? It looks like we can only add one address in the Lync topology builder, so would it make sense to send everybody to the external wac.foo.com regardless of whether they are internal vs. external? Or is there a better option?
    Thanks,
    Matt

It might be easiest to use pin-point DNS.  Create an internal zone called wac.foo.com with a blank A record that points to the internal IP address of the OWAS/WAC server.  This way, wac.foo.com will resolve to the correct
internal address, but you're not setting up a split zone for the rest of foo.com.
This trick can come in handy for publishing other items without recreating the entire zone, it's a nice one to keep in your back pocket.

  • Office Web Apps server not working externally

Hopefully someone with a functional OWA server can help.  When my users try to share a presentation, whiteboard, or poll as an external user or to an external user (coming through Edge), the content fails to share and this error occurs:
"We can't connect to the server for presenting right now"
The server functions internally fine and content shares perfectly.  The OWA server has a certificate from an internal CA and it is published through a TMG reverse proxy.  When I hit the discovery URL, it works fine and triggers the reverse proxy
rule.  However, when I try to share content, it does not hit the rule.
    Thanks for your help!
    Jim

    Hi,
Looks like the external lync clients can't connect the office web app server. So please check if you publish the web office app to internet correctly.
Please refer this document about Publishing Office Web Apps Server Using a Reverse Proxy Server:

  • Office web apps Server for Sharepoint 2013

    Hello,
I used the following article to install office web apps server and hook it up to a test sharepoint server:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219455(v=office.15).aspx. The OWAS service was verified as working by loading:
    https://owas.companyname.com/hosting/discovery
For the sharepoint configuration phase, the following commands were run on the sharepoint machine:
    1) New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName "owas.companyname.com"   -- (owas.companyname.com) is the host name of the owas server)
    2) Get-SPWOPIZone
    3) Set-SPWOPIZone -zone "external-https"
However, office documents are still launching in the desktop office applications, not in the browser. Any ideas of what else I may need to do?
    thanks,
    Sherazad

    Hi  ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you fail to configure Office Web Apps for your SharePoint 2013.
How about run Get-SPWOPIZone? If you can get a result, it says that your  SharePoint  have connected with Office Web Apps.
Then you can run below command to  change the zone to internal-https.
    Set-SPWOPIZone -zone "internal-https"

  • Office Web Apps - how to disable office web apps features for one web application

ENV: Sharepoint 2010 farm with office web apps + fast search
I have the requirement for one web application to open all its documents in client applications - I can enable feature "OpenInClient". This web application uses team site template and other web application also uses team site template. ( feature
stapling ruled out)  Now I can run powershell cmdlet to enable this feature on all the currently existing site collections. But the requirement is to enable this feature for all the future site collections. This web applications has 60 k site collections
and atleast more than 10 site collections get created each day and they dont like the option to run a powershell script each day to activate this solution.
Is there any other way to by default activate new site collections on this WA to open in client applications by default (can we disable this office webapps features only on one web app)?
    VM

I have learnt from this forum that it is not possible to turn off Office web apps on single web application. The line of control lies at farm level and then at site collection.

  • Office Web App - Use for viewing but not for editing

    Hello,
i'm searching for a possibility to use the web app server only for viewing documents but not for editing.
I want to accomplish this for docs and ppts.
So the possibility to edit in Web App should be greyed out or even better, vanish completely.
    Best regards
    Stephan

You can remove the bindings for OWA for some actions.

You will need a public facing URL or IP address. Check below
You need to configure your OWA for internet

  • Office Web Apps Server SSL Certificate

    Hi
I am deploying Office Web App Server for Integration with Lync 2013. I opted for secure communication with SSL Certificate. I want this server available to internal and external users.
I am little confused over CA for Issuance of SSL Certificate. On most of the forums, I found SSL Certificate to be issued by Internal CA. If so, will this also work for external users?
If not, then plz guide me for Generating Certificate Request on Office Web App Server to be submitted to External CA for Issuance of Certificate.
    Regards.

    Hi,
Thanks for your posting in this forum.
I have moved this thread in Lync Server 2013-Management, Planning, and Deployment forum for more dedicated support.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Office web Apps server Lync 2013

    Hi All,
I have logged onto my Volume licensing site and could not search Office Web Apps servers for download?? I wonder how do i download it?

    Hi channavera,
Office Web Apps Server was removed from the Microsoft Download Center.  Now it only was available for
download under Volume Licensing agreements.  For more information please read the FAQ below or visit the site Volume Licensing
    Service Center.
    FAQ
Why is Web Apps Server being removed from the Microsoft Download Center?
VLSC is best suited as the location from which to serve all customers according to their agreements with Microsoft.
What about existing installations?  Do I need to re-license them?
No.  Web Apps Server installations and/or downloads that occur before 11/24/14 will continue to be licensed for free viewing.
Will there be an evaluation version for Developers and IT Pros?
Evaluation availability will continue on MSDN for subscribers.  Additionally, Volume License agreements allow for product evaluation.

  • Office Web Apps Integration

    Hello,
We are looking to deploy Office Web Apps to integrate with Exchange and share files but I do have a few questions before I deploy this technology.
With this server installed on premise, will this give the users the ability to access the Web Apps Server and upload single files to the office web app server for the purpose of generating a link to this file (lets say Excel for example) and then share this
link to other users so they may co-author the file?
Or does Office Web App strictly only integrate with SharePoint/Exchange/Lync? In our case, we only have Exchange/Lync no SP.
My goal is to give users the ability to co-author documents without going to 3rd party solutions such as Google Docs, etc.
    Thanks.

  • Using Office Web Apps Server with SharePoint Foundation 2013

I want to know whether I can configure Office Web Apps server to edit Excel documents on a SharePoint Foundation 2013 site.
I came across a TechNet article that states that "When used together with SharePoint Server 2013, Office Web Apps Server provides updated versions of Word Web App, Excel Web App, PowerPoint Web App, and OneNote Web App".
However, later in the same article, it states "If your organization licenses Office 2013 through a Volume Licensing program, you can enable Office Web Apps editing for SharePoint 2013 on-premises" (without mentioning Foundation or Server).

    Hi Lemesnil,
The Office Web App server should support the Edit licenses for SharePoin Foundation 2013, Office Web App is free to
download, you can also try installing and configuring in a test environment, see more from the below article applied to SharePoint Foundation 2013.

  • Office Web Apps 2010 on SharePoint 2010 site running in SharePoint 2013?

We're in the process of moving a SharePoint 2010 site over to SharePoint 2013.  The SharePoint 2010 site is using classic authentication, and it's not in scope to update this to claims-based authentication.
I'd like to continue running the site in SharePoint 2010 mode without upgrading it to 2013.  In this case, can I continue to use Office Web Apps 2010 for this SP2010 site?  I've already installed Office Web Apps 2013 on another server but just
read that it needs claims-based authentication.

If you want to use OWA once the site has been moved to 2013 you will need to change the web application to use Claims. OWA in 2013 requires that and will not work in classic mode.
