Oh NOES Navy Fed...!! **Update**

So... I was recently approved for what some of you have called the "conservative" PenFed for a $5k visa siggy after joining by donating $15. But of course I can't help but see the love from Navy Federal for those who are members. My housemate has a sister in the Marines, so that was a way in for me, since "housemate" is an eligible category for membership. So the other day I helped him open a Navy Federal account / gain membership, and of course helped him immediately apply for their Flagship card, which he was immediately approved for $6k. As soon as he had a membership number, I opened an account for myself, the housemate. I was approved for membership, and of course immediately applied for the same card, though my went to "pending" unfortunately. Fast forward a couple days - I can't log in to see my account. I call. They say it's an issue with my sponsoring member. I hand him the phone. They need him to come in and show his social security card. He says ok and hangs up. Then today, he couldn't find his social security card. So he took his drivers license and passport in to Navy Federal. The bank manager at the branch said "this sort of thing happens [frequently]" and says she will manually override the system. But then she can't. So she calls her supervisor, who tells her he has to show his social security card, and apologized for not being able to accept his driver's license or passport. He now has to apply for a replacement social security card, which can take 10 business days once the application is submitted. I still have restricted access on my own account, in terms of online functions, but I could see "pending applications" and my CC application was declined. Soooo..... should he resolve his situation and provide proof of his SSN within the next 30 days and get full account access restored (I assume he won't get his CC from them?), is my decline something that I can recon? (I guess I don't know what the reason for denial is yet). Do they recon? If they don't, how long would I have to wait to reapply?

The household member, if it is used by a federal credit union, is generally defined by the NCUA, the regulatory body for credit unions.  http://www.ncua.gov/Resources/Documents/CUDev/Chartering%20And%20Field%20of%20Membership%20Manual.pdf http://www.ncua.gov/Legal/OpinionLetters/OL1999-0426.pdf It requires the household member to make an economic contribution to the household, and not just be a transient member of the household, but the relationship does not have to be a domestic partnership. A credit union can adopt a more restictive definition, but they point out that it is especially important that such restrictions be put in writing. They have also stated that existing members should remain members if such a change is adopted. That is probably why there is not a more specific definition of household member for most credit unions. Some credit unions have in the past requested a more specific definition of household by NCUA, but they have chosen to leave the definition as is.

  • Amex and Navy Fed Approval

So funny thing is I work at a bank, so after truly figuring out and understanding the run down of utilization, limits, and types of lending to establish good credit. After two years of bad credit and a 16% interest rate auto loan, I built my credit score up to the point of applying with navy fed for an $25,000 auto loan which was approved at 2.39% and also a credit card while there which they extended a $12500.00 CAsh Rewards card. I was feeling high and over the moon. So I have been piling up the applications that come in the mail for shred and said well might as well try for that Amex I always wanted and scored a $6500 Everyday Card with them and a $5000 Blue.  This is my testimony of doing what is needed to get where you want. I started with an average credit score of 560-600. I now sit at 712 being my lowest and 742 being my highest. I do also have a PNC cash builder credit card that they recently increased to $1000 and a terrible first premier with $250 that card I plan to close. It was my first card I got to rebuild credit. i just want to share my story and say with time it will happen. Never would I thought I would have good credit.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Welcome to the Amex & NFCU Families! -take care of them, as they will take GREAT care of you- Oh, and don't forget to 3xCLI those Amex's when you get them!

  • Credit/Loan Approval Questions

Need some help on what to do to with my credit to get best interest rate. So my current scores showing in MyFico are 603, 612 and 615. Fico Auto 8 score is 629. This past weekend I was at a dealership and they pulled my credit giving me a 583? Why would there be a difference?  Here's the situation.Have about 4,800 left on a car payment that has about 16 months left, interest rate was around 1.9% This is my oldest account- opened in 2011. I just read that you should keep your oldest account opened. I have about 4,700 in credit cards with the limits totalling 5,500 - I know this is high utilziation. I will have access to 5k in cash in about a month. I cannot decide what would be the best route. Should I pay off my car or pay off credit cards? Which would look better?I am leaning toward credit cards. I had a collection account that I just paid off this past month that was about $700 which is still showing as not paid - it should be updated soon - but I'm sure that will get me declined until that is updated as paid. Current payment is $310 My current income is about 2,600 per month. I don't have rent or mortage payment. I am wanting to finance for about 38-40k Would it be better to take that 5k and put as a down payment? Or maybe even pay enough to get credit cards under 30%? I also have a student loan that is in defferenment until 2018 - will this be taken into consideration to be approved? If so how do they factor this in? I have a co-signer with about 2,600 per month also if needed. What would give me the best credit profile to be approved with the best rate?To add - I want a Jeep Wrangler - does anyone know how hard or what kind of score you need to get good financing?

    Southernchic wrote:
I typed the income part wrong it's about 70k combined (minimum as it can be more as my other half frequently works overtime but I've heard they only count your base income?) 1.9 would be nice but I'm not expecting to get 1.9% as circumstances were different when I got that, I think under 5 % would be do able. I was simply asking does it matter to the banks of you already have a car payment when you try to get one? And what would be the best solution. I've read you won't be approved with multiple auto loans but I've also read you shouldn't pay off or close your longest open account which is what my car loan would be. So I guess Paying off credit cards (12% rates) would be the best. I am hoping to get lower than 38-40k but I just put that out there as a max. What about the collection accounts that have been paid - will that be an automatic decline? I just checked and that account has been updated showing a zero balance but it says agreed to pay for less than full amount, this is incorrect as the original amount was wrong and I paid the correct amount we agreed to. Should I dispute this, how will that look to banks? My wife and I actually just bought her a brand new Jeep Wrangler last month so I'll give you our experience. Our combined incoming is currently around 74k. We did file for a chapter 7 bankruptcy last year so our situation may be a little different. We had trouble getting approved because neither one of us had experience with car loan above 20k. Our scores were in the 640s/650s. Under 10% credit card utilization. We ended up having to have her dad co-sign on the loan with her through Ally Financial for 37k, 1k down at 6.9%. And he has a mid-700 score 150k income. We're hoping to refinance with Navy Fed ASAP.  Absolutely pay the credit cards down. To boost your score, one card should be reporting less than 10% balance, and the others zero. This will give you your best chance. And the reporting is correct if you did settle for anything less than the full amount owed.

  • USAA World Mastercard approved $16k, NFCU credit limit increase doubled to $20k!

It's about time ladies and gentlemen!
12.99% for NFCU platinum12.90% for USAA World Mastercard Rewards.
Full USAA member (I think?)  I have Auto, Home, Personal Property Insurance with them.  Also Checking, Savings, Stock account.  Former enlisted, medically retired. I had a Classic card with USAA since 2011.  I didn't know at the time that I couldn't increase the $1k credit limit with that card.  They were charging me a shocking 22.9% apr, but I luckily never carried a balance after the first 6 months of using it.  Usually would charge most of my stuff on it and pay in full.  The NFCU started me off at a $10k credit limit a few years ago and I was really happy with the 12.99% and the first real bigger card.  Everyone else was only offering me $1k and I was very happy with the larger limit.  I do believe that this was also high because I had opened a secured credit card for $10k, yes I had cash at the time but no credit.  I ended up closing that account and getting my money out when the NFCU was accepted.  I truly believe that the lenders look at other credit limits to also base off what they offer you as a credit limit.  Lately though I was getting recked by the high utilization on my NFCU 10k limit as I had just gotten married and luckily we recieved plenty of cash and gifts to cover everything.
So anyways after hanging up with USAA after learning about my classic card with them and not being able to increase credit limit nor change APR, I applied for a USAA World Rewards online and instant approval for $16k @12.9%!  This is going to be my main earn some points and pay in full card.  I just wanted more overhead so that I could spend without worrying about my utilization ratios.  And I've been with USAA for 6 years now. About a few hours after I got the itch to bump up my $10k limit on NFCU, because I had brought the high limit to about $10,125 at one point.  And after lurking for years on this site and reading up on asking for the max limit without review, I did the $25k credit limit increase online.  They countered with $20k!  I accepted!  I just sent a message to see if they could reduce my interest rate and we shall see within the next few days.
Never had a late payment on my report, but was a bad boy at 18-19 years old.  About 3 years ago everything bad off my credit fell off from the 7 year rule.  I had some late payments and such at 18 years old.  I ended up disputing them on annual credit report to verify the numbers are correct and they ended up removing the bad ones luckily!
I want to say my score is in the mid 720s.  But my vantage score that shows on the credit cards is 699, probably due to that high 9k balance on the Navy Fed that hasn't reflected on the reports yet. I do shop at Costco a lot but never had their AMEX.  But was thinking of applying for the Visa rate advantage with USAA to use at Costco.  My mom added me as an authorized user on her AMEX for costco so she could get points.  But I called AMEX and canceled my authorized user account with them a few months back.  I disputed online that I never signed anything and was added on by my mother.  Transunion removed the AMEX and another card I was authorized on (barclays) but experian just reported them as closed.  Wondering also if this hurt my average age of accounts.  My credit sesame shows about 3 years and 6 months for my average age. So currently have my $16k limit with USAA World Mastercard$20k limit with NFCU PlatinumOnly two credit cards as I canceled my $1k limit classic crap card.  Have one car loan open now and one mortgage.  Had many car loans, about 2 car refi's, even had 3 car loans open at one time during my high 680ish scores.  Lots of utilization I guess, they say they hate it, but they secretely love a good comeback story.

Thanks everyone!  Wanted to update that Navy Fed denied my APR decrease and they said I could do it once a year.  Eh, 12.99 isn't too bad. Also wanted to add that I got my first VA loan when I was around 620ish and I brought it up from 580 a few months before.

  • First unsecured card!

I've been rebuidling for about 6 months now. I have 2 secured cards, one through Navy Fed, the other through first progress. These have been reporting for about 3 months. I sent a few PFD for small medical collections and here I am. I applied for a CapitalOne quicksilverone rewards card and was approved for a $500 limit. This will be my third line of revolving credit that I will use in my rebuilding journey. Now if I could find out how to edit my signature I would put my scores in there... hmmm

  • I am so fed up with Apple and their lack of testing on Security Updates!!!!

I am so fed up with Apple, i have lost all hope in them whatsoever. Today i installed the Security Update 2007-009 1.1 and when prompted to restart did so, only to wait 5 minutes with my computer just idling and not restarting. So I then went to the apple menu to restart but still nothing happened. Pushed the Power button on my Mac and it brought up the dialog box for:
    ...Log off...Restart...Shutdown
But then it quickly logged-out giving me no time to even click on restart , so i logged back in , tried again, and of course it did the same thing again, so i logged back in and force shutdown holding down the power button for 5 seconds. Finally it shut down so i then Powered it back up, logged in with no problems.
Since the Security Update includes the update of Logic 8.0.1, I went straight to it in applications but found the Logic icon & Logic Node icon replaced by Blue folder icons. Upon clicking on Logic i was prompted with an error stating that it could not open because the file was corrupt, so i decided to delete Logic and along with Logic Node and empty the trash so that it would remove all its files. But now when i clicked on Trash, the window would not come up. I tried just empty trash from the dock but it would not empty the trash either. I can not open any finder window from my dock's Finder Icon.
I can open finder by clicking on Macintosh HD on my desktop but when i navigate through my folders all of my file icons have these weird sort of Distorted Scan lines through them.
So i decided i would open disk utility and try and repair whatever the **** is going on. Pressed verify Disk and it tried to Verify the disk but came back a minute after idling, giving me this error:
    Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Checking multi-linked files.
    Checking Catalog hierarchy.
    Checking Extended Attributes file.
    Checking volume bitmap.
    Checking volume information.
    Invalid volume free block count
(It should be (It should be 4 instead of 6294237)
    Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
Here is a screenshot of Disk Utility: http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g269/DjViral/Picture1.png
So obviously something is wrong because it reported failure on exit and Disk Utility will not even let me click on "Repair Disk", it is just faded out, un-click-able.
I would like to know what is wrong, and why Apple is releasing such **** as Security Updates. I mean isn't the whole point of a security update to make your computer more secure. Is this a joke or something?
I have lost all respect for you Apple. Not too mention this happened only 2 months ago with your last security update and i had to get my computer serviced which took 3 weeks. You better explain yourselves, apologize and start getting your sorry act together.

when prompted to restart did so, only to wait 5 minutes with my computer just idling and not restarting. So I then went to the apple menu to restart but still nothing happened. Pushed the Power button on my Mac
You should not have done that, it is a process that should never be interrupted.
    For next time:
There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them 10.4.10. compliant. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:

  • Fed up trying to update itunes (missing bonjour.msi problem)

With iOS5, is itunes even necessary? My phone updates by itself now. I'm guessing my iPad will too? Can I just delete itunes from my Win7 computer?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • I am fed up with how difficult it is to update my apps via Creative Cloud!

Even this whole process is a pain in the butt! Why can't this whole process be streamlined and work like it's promised it will!!!?

Max I am sorry you have been facing difficulties applying your updates.  Do you have any specific error messages which you are receiving when attempting to apply the updates?
If you have not done so already I would recommend reviewing your installation logs to determine the exact error you are experiencing.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log files at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.

  • Fed up with "updates": to whom belong MY phone?

Short story. After one or two months without doing it (was I lasy?), I had the stupid idea of checking software updates for my N8. Was not at first easy, since the Ovi suite (after upgrading to last version) kept cheking for hours for "software updates". In the end, I managed to have it done. My N8 rebooted, with a sort of "new look", some of the icons having even been changed in such a way, that it was hard to remember to what they pointed (albeit the position seemed to have been respected).
Then, when I looked to the Ovi suite screen, what I saw, is that I needed another update to "Anna" telling me that with Anna, my N8 life will become wonderfully better. But Anna  resited to the attraction of the Ovi suite, and it was impossible to have here come down to my phone.
Alas! I was in a rush. I cheked that my phone was correctly functionning. Apparently, yes. Then I went to a business meeting.
During the meeting, for the purpose of the discussion, I had to check some data I usually carry with me in the phone. I clicked on the excel file "sorry, format not recognized". I tried a word file. Same answer. In a panic, I turned to a .pdf. Same answer.
So next time I'll carry with me a paper copy of these files.
When I had time ahead, I finally managed to updgrade to Anna, with wifi connection (is it cumpulsary, when you buy a N8 phone to have a wifi connection at hand?). Only then, I was able to view again my "office" files.
So my question to the smart Nokia software geeks. Is the N8 I bought with my own monies (not even in a line subscription package), MY phone or YOUR phone, with witch you can play to have some occupation during  the long and  dark winter season in Finland?
By the way, so far, Anna didn't impress me with some extraordinary more wonderfull features, I han those I had with the previous N8 software girl, I was forced to leave.

@n8dummyuser: It's a shame you had these problems, but they seem to me to be perfectly explicable (especially if you searched and read these forums).
    1. The ANNA update has (from what I can understand, because I haven't had the luxury of actually updating yet) three parts. There's a part that you update the base operating system, and then there's a further Part 1 and Part 2. These later parts include QuickOffice, which is the application that allows you to see and edit Microsoft Office files (the Excel file you mentioned). If you just update without the later parts, you will not have QuickOffice and your phone basically has an incomplete update. There are apparently instructions telling this, and no, Nokia did not take any of your functionality away - they assume you will complete the update process.
    2. The Maps application has gone through a number of updates, which required the map data to be updated as well. Once again, you would have been told that in one of the little windows that pops up on your screen as you do the update, and Nokia would have asumed you would read these notices and follow their instructions. The voice guidance files are part of the map data update, so would have to be re-loaded as well.
I guess the message to you is to take care as you update your phone (as I assume you do when you update your computer) ie take backups, read the instructions carefully, take a deep breath and pause before you hit the go button.
    Cheers,
    Cameron
